Wedding Date
It's here. Today is the wedding. Everyone is getting into place.
The church hall is ready. The groom has on his fine suit. The bride
just finished getting dressed. Choko and Mai-Pai helped her with
hair and make-up.
“You look beautiful,” her mother said. Be blushed.
The food and music were ready. The wedding party was ready. Well…
almost?
Hours earlier, Hindeo awoke to his phone ringing.
“Hello?” he asked, half-asleep. The words didn't click at
first.
“Huh?” he asked. More words came in. Hindeo bolted up in bed.
“What?!” he asked. “Oh. Oh. Are you okay? Oh. Oh…” Hindeo looked
worried.
“Oh,” he said. “I'm sorry to hear that.” When he hung up, he
realized he had a problem.
---------
“What's wrong?” Soon asked. The groom sighed.
“Touya broke his leg last night,” Hindeo said.
“Your best man?” Shin asked.
“Yeah,” Hindeo said. The three men went quiet. Soon already knew
what was coming next. He was about to speak when his dad stepped
up.
“I'll do it,” Shin said. Soon and Hindeo looked up.
“Are you serious?” the groom asked.
“Yes,” the old man said. “I would be honored.” Hindeo bowed.
“Thank you so much!” he said. Soon didn't know what to make of
this.
“Are you sure?” he asked.
“Yes!” Shin shouted. Soon put up his hands.
“Okay, okay,” he said.
“Thank you,” his father said, bowing his head. Soon just had to go
with it.
---------
The wedding began without any problems. Shin stood out in the
groomsmen's party. The old man grinned. Soon and Mai-Pai stood in
their respective parties. Hindeo stood, waiting. He straightened
his jacket. The crowd was small in the pews. Everything was in
place.
Suddenly, the bridal march began to play. Be walked into the
chapel. She held her bouquet to her chest. Hindeo broke into a huge
grin. She was beautiful. Be stood beside Hindeo.
“Do you, Saitou Hindeo take Be to be your lawfully wedded wife?”
the minister asked. “For better or worse. For richer or poorer. In
sickness and in health.. `Til death do you part?”
“I do,” Hindeo said.
“Chieu Be, do you take Hindeo to be your lawfully wedded husband?”
the minister asked. “For better or worse. For richer and poorer. In
sickness and health. `Til death do you part?”
“I do,” Be said.
“I now pronounce you man and wife,” the minister said. “You may
kiss the bride.” Be and Hindeo shared a kiss on the altar. Everyone
clapped. Shin cheered out loud.
Everyone went to the local community center for the reception. The
couple was happy, but there was still one more relationship that
needed a resolution.
