One More Time
Chiko sat alone at the wedding party's table. She took a drink and
frowned. She was happy for Be and Hindeo. But her mind was
elsewhere. She looked at her cup. Why was she thinking about him?
Chiko leaned back in her chair.
Roco…
She became aware of someone standing in front of her. Chiko turned
her head. And there he was. Roco looked so handsome in his
suit.
“Yo,” he said with a wave. Chiko didn't know what to say at
first.
“Hi…” she mumbled. Her eyes shifted away as she blushed.
“How have you been?” he asked.
“Fine,” she mumbled. “And you?”
“Good,” Roco said. “Listen, can we talk?” She looked up at him. He
had a desperate look in his eyes. The man looked like he would cry.
Chiko sighed.
“Fine,” she said. She set down her cup and stood up. He followed
her out of the room.
--------
They stood in the hallway. Chiko and Roco said nothing at first.
She glanced over at him.
“What do you want?” she asked. Roco lifted his chin.
“I'm so sorry,” he said. Chiko turned her head. He lowered his
head.
“Okay,” his ex said. They went quiet. Roco shifted in place.
“I miss you; you know?” he said.
“Yes,” she said.
“Do you… mis me?”
“Yes.” It hurt to say that. But it was true. She missed him. Why
hadn't she reached out? All Chiko had to do was swallow her pride
and go to him. She clenched her fists by her side.
No! Why should she do the chasing again? It always betrayed her.
No! He should chase her.
“I want to give us a chance,” Roco said. “I really do miss
you.”
“Oh?” Chiko asked. “What happen to that other girl?” Roco looked
confused.
“What other girl?” he asked.
“You know…” she said. It took him a moment to get it.
“Oh! You mean Yuri,” he said. “That never happened.” Chiko stared
at him. Roco shrugged.
“I wanted to, but it was DOA,” he said. “Wasn't her type.” His ex
pretended to be mad but failed. Chiko broke into small giggles.
“What?” Roco asked. Chiko kept laughing. His face grew red.
“What about you?” he asked. She stopped laughing and looked
grim.
“He dumped me,” she said.
“Oh,” he said. “Sorry to hear that.” They both went quiet. Chiko
gritted her teeth.
“Oh! Just come out and say it!” she shouted. Roco frowned.
“But I did!” he said.
“Say it again!” she said. “Say it again!”
“Okay!” Roco said. He took a deep breath.
“I love you! Please take me back!” he shouted. Chiko held out her
arms.
“Yes,” she said. The two embraced and kissed.

Back inside, Soon and Mai-Pai held hands at the table. Bo and
Hindeo danced on the dance floor. Somehow, all was right in their
golden years. For now, everyone would enjoy this moment.
