Spinning DJ's
-John-
I love Japanese music. My brother got me hooked. I was ten at the
time. Our parents were in the Air Force. We barely stayed in one
place. They were barely home either. Our parents worked all the
time. But that's beside the point.
One summer, my brother and I were home alone. There wasn't much to
do. I think was playing my Gameboy at the time. Suddenly, there was
a knock on the door.
“Yeah?” I asked. I turned to see my door open. My brother poked his
head inside.
“You busy right now?” he asked.
“No. Why?” I asked. My brother slipped into my room, grinning.
“What?” I asked. He held up a cassette tape. (Yes, one of those.
I'm that old.) I gave him an odd look.
“What is that?” I asked.
“A tape,” my brother said. I narrowed my eyes.
“I know that,” I said. “What's on it?”
“Ah. Check this out,” he said. My brother popped the tape into my
player and hit play. The band was X Japan. I couldn't explain it at
the time, but I fell in love.
Since then, I have been chasing Japanese music. I can't get enough.
Japanese music led to my passion. I became a radio DJ in college.
The station gave me free reign. I played Japanese music every
evening. Some loved it. Some didn't. It didn't matter to me. I just
loved to play Japanese music. By my freshman year, I resolved to go
to Japan.
Now, I am a radio DJ in Japan. I always look for new music. Lately,
I have gotten into two bands. I am a fan of Charm Inu and Lady
Dragon. I usually don't go for pop-rock, but something about these
bands has me drawn me in. I mean, I can't stop playing their music.
Their fanbases are vicious. Me? It depends on my mood.
Right now, they are on tour in the Goodbye Summer Tour. You know
that I will have to go. I already have my pass for the Tokyo
show.
