Red Traps

The plan's wheels turned in motion. It started in Club Bambi. Isao sat alone at the bar. He just needed a break. The man rubbed his forehead. The tour was going fine so far. He played his music. He greeted the fans. Hokkaido was relaxing. Isao even called up his mother and Gary. He avoided Lady Dragon for the most part.

Now they were back in Tokyo. He needed a break. Some fans recognized him, but he paid no mind to them.

“Here you go,” the bartender said. Isao nodded and took the can of beer. He opened it and took a drink. Nightclubs weren't really his scene of choice. Isao just wanted to be alone.

Mai stood in the doorway of the club. Why was she here again? She rubbed her forehead. What was with that fan of theirs? She seemed interested in her. Too interested. In fact, this was her idea to come out here.

The vocalist frowned. Why did I agree to this? Clubs weren't her thing. But Namiko wouldn't let up.

“We don't have to stay long,” she said. “Just a little bit of time, okay?” Mai rolled her eyes. The rest of her hand had uneasy looks on their faces. Namiko waited. The vocalist rolled her eyes.

“Fine,” she said. The rest of the band stared confused.

“Mai?” Kasumi asked. Mai rubbed her forehead.

“She's a fan,” she said. “It would be rude to say no.” The bassist frowned. Still, Mai had a point.

The vocalist wished she had said no. The pounding music did little to help. Where was Namiko anyway? Mai pulled out her phone.

“I'm here. Where are you?” she typed. Mai hit send and sighed. This was lame. She could just leave. Not like Namiko would notice, right?

Mai walked over to the bar. The bartender looked up.

“What can I get you?” he shouted over the music.

“Gin and tonic,” Mai said. She leaned over on the bar. The bartender looked up.

“What can I get you?” he shouted over the music.

“Gin and tonic,” Mai said. She leaned over on the bar. The vocalist felt her phone buzz in jeans pocket. About time! She took out her phone. Mai frowned. Just a random drunk text. The vocalist squinted at her screen. How did they get her number? Too many characters in the text bubble. She rolled her eyes and deleted the text.

“Here you are,” the bartender said.

“Thanks,” Mai said. She took a drink. The bartender eyed her.

“Need another?” he asked.

“Yeah!” the vocalist said.

“Coming up,” he said. The bartender got back to work.

---------

Drinks make time go faster. Mai kept choking them back. The bartender looked nervous.

“I think you had enough,” he said. Mai turned to him, glaring.

“Enough? You think I had enough?!” she shouted. The bartender trembled.

“Look! I don't want any trouble,” he said in soft voice. The vocalist glared at him and huffed.

“Fuck you,” she said. The woman downed her drink. Her face looked so red. The bartender's eyes shifted back and forth.

“Oh boy…” he said.

Further down the bar, Isao happened to look up. A confused look washed over his face.

“Is that…?” he asked. The man couldn't tear his eyes away. He just had to look. The vocalist rose to his feet and walked over to Mai and the bartender.

“What's going on here?” he asked. Mai and the bartender looked up and saw Isao staring at them with a confused look on his face.
