Midori's eyes narrowed as she watched Alana's reaction. "I see," she said softly. "So is that the reason why you're letting him stay?"
"I'm letting him stay because I would rather him be here, safe, then out there wandering around trying to figure things out. I'm letting him stay because you once asked me to. If you want him home, ask him to come home," she said in her defense.
"Tell me, Alana. Why did you sleep with him? Why did you let yourself succumb to an Eldarian? You knew the risks and the penalty. So why did you do it? Why now do you hold onto him?"
Alana opened her mouth, but nothing came out. She took a deep breath and tried again. "When it happened...I told you it happened so fast. My hormones got the better of me and I wasn't thinking of consequences. I wasn't thinking of how it would affect Yori or your family. I just wanted..." She looked out the window. "I didn't want to be alone anymore. I wanted to be wanted. And he seemed like he wanted me. It was only afterward that I realized how wrong it was. I'm not holding on to him. I'm just...helping him the only way I can."
Midori closed her eyes. "My brother has taken quite the liking to you.... I won't make him come back home yet. If...if anything should happen, at least make certain to use the genetic neutralizer so there's no chance that any unwanted children come from this."
Alana was shocked. "I...I wouldn't do it again... I told him that. You don't have to worry about it."
Midori just nodded, but a smirk played at her lips. "If you say so," she said. "Just...please. Be careful."
Alana nodded then turned off the screen. She let out a long held in breath and tried to shaking the feeling of being guilty. Was she using Yori? She cared about him...so how could she be using him? Even if he had the mind of a ten year old, there is still part of him who is an eighteen year old. She just wouldn't do anything with him. She'll just...be careful and not lead him on.
Yori poked his head back into her bedroom. He had a fish tail sticking out of his mouth and a bit of flour in his ear. "Did I hear my sister?"
Alana nodded. "Yeah. Just hung up with her."
Yori smiled as he sat down on her bed. "So, she's okay with me staying here for a little bit?" He was batting at his tail as it swung at his feet. He was surprised that his sister didn't want to talk to him. She was probably busy taking care of his little sisters.... "Tomorrow I need to go work again," he said suddenly. "That way my sisters will have money."
Alana looked around. She stood and walked over to a shelf. Pulling at it harshly, it came crashing to the floor. "I need that fixed. I'll pay you," she said and sat back down. "I'm sure there are other things that need to be fixed too."
Yori looked at the shelf and then at her, a confused yet happy smile on his face. Standing up he walked over to the shelf and ran his hands over it. "Yes...this will certainly take some time," he said as he stood back up and smiled.
"But you don't have to pay me, Alana. I don't mind working for other people."
"Well, I do mind. You'll start first thing in the morning. Don't be late, or I'm docking your pay," she said with a smirk.
Yori smiled as he looked at her. "I think it'll be hard for me to be late since I'll be staying here." His hand reached out to rub her face, moving some hair behind her ear.
Which Yori was this?!? The smooth talker or the little sweet one? She smiled. Didn't matter. It was nice, being with him like this.
He just smiled and leaned in to kiss her. His lips met hers for a few moments before he pulled away and sniffed the air. His eyes widening as he realized something was burning. "My fish!" He quickly turned and scampered downstairs to keep his food from catching on fire.
Alana watched him hop away. Yep, it's the kid one. She laid back on her bed and sighed. How in the world was she going to get use to this? She was making out with a ten year old practically...that was a little...cradle robbing. Her head hurt.
After getting the fish cooled down, he quickly scarfed it down. Burning his tongue in the process. He then spent the next few minutes cleaning up so that Alana wouldn't have to worry about it. Going back up to her room, he crawled into her bed and laid beside her. His tail swished over her leg as he ran a hand over her body.
Alana looked over at him. "What if I employed you for good? What if you help me keep the house clean and I pay you? It's a really big house and there are rooms that haven't been touched in months. If you help me keep it clean, you can stay here and I'll pay you," she said.
Yori thought about that for a moment. "People sometimes keep Eldarians as servants.... If I was to be your servant, people could see me come and go and no one would think anything."
Alana sat up. "I don't want you to be my servant, Yori. You are nothing like that to me." She sighed. "Besides...I made a big deal about Eldarian rights earlier today when you were your other self...I would be a hypocrite to have a servant that is of your race."
Yori frowned. "I would like to stay here and work for you; but I don't want to have to stay hidden all the time...."
She laid back down. "I can't have a servant. I really want think I want to be an Eldarian rights activist and it wouldn't look good if I had one working for me as a servant. I can employ one to help me out as long as I help, but I can't have a servant. It just seems cruel. The politics will turn it around on me and make me look bad."
"You want to be an activist...like my dad?" He sat down beside her and cocked his head to the side so that he could look at her. "But...you're just a kid."
Alana smiled to herself as she looked at the ceiling. "I wish you could remember, Yori...the way I talked. I was on fire and it was such a rush. The only time I ever felt like that was when we..." she stopped. "Never mind....I just mean that the crowd really saw what I saw. I'm good at it, Yori. I felt like I was making a difference. And I want that feeling again. That rush...that adrenalin."
He nodded slowly. Not because he entirely agreed, but because he knew the feeling. "That's why I go to the arena," he told her. "I love the adrena-, well I love the rush of it. It makes me happy and I feel important when I do it."
He nuzzled her neck as he moved closer. "If you want, I can talk to my dad. Maybe he could get you set up with something?"
Alana looked over at him. "That would be great. Maybe working along side your father would really give me a rush. He's rather important to your people. And in my eyes...he's like an idol."
Yori sat back and looked at her. "Why is he an idol to you?"
"He does what he thinks is right despite the risks. He's not afraid to stand up for the things he believes in and I feel the same way. He wants what's best for his people and I want your people to be equal. He's everything that I want to be one day. He has his heart in the right place and his head in the right direction," she said with a light smile. "It's people like him that you just know are going to do great things one day."
Yori had never really thought of it like that before. Sure he knew that his dad was important was trying to do good for his people, but he really didn't see any point in it. It would take more than words to change the minds of men. "I'm just afraid that before all of this is over there will be a war that neither side can afford."
"Not always, Yori. Words are a lot more powerful than you think. If you had remembered that crowd, you would understand. Only moments before I spoke, they wanted to get ride of the Eldarians. When I was finished, they suddenly understood. That was because one person stood up and spoke. If your father can have the people on his side, the government cannot deny him. And what better way to do that then to have a human standing at his side?" She smiled bigger. She was in a dream world now. "Can you just imagine? How amazing would that be if I was that human?"
Yori looked at her and gently pushed her back down on the bed. "There's an expression my father use to use when I was younger. The nail which sticks out the most is the first to get hammered down. I think...I think he meant that if you go against everyone else...something bad happens. I don't want something bad to happen to you."
Alana smile faded but the fire in her eyes didn't die. "I'm not afraid to get shot down. I'm not afraid to die. But I am afraid to die when I have done nothing to live for. If I stand up for what I believe in, then I will happily go." She sighed. "Before...today...all I could think about was getting caught being with you the way we were the other night, but when I stood in front of that crowd, none of it mattered. If I got caught and got tortured...then I will die knowing that I was standing up for something I believe in. Of course, I'm not saying that if I was caught, I wouldn't cry or be terrified that death was coming, but I wouldn't regret a thing. Not one thing. Because I know what I'm doing is right. And if I fight beside your father, I'll be doing something so much greater than this."
Yori looked down at her. Moving an arm on either side of her head he crawled on top of her. "So...you wouldn't regret...us?" Before she could answer he leaned down and kissed her, his lips massaging hers as his tongue pressed against her lips. Pulling back, he continued to stay over her, a small smile perched on his lips. "No one will hurt you," he promised. "I won't let them."
Alana blushed. She said she wouldn't do this with him...not anymore. She sat up on her elbows, forcing him to sit back on his knees in between her legs. "I don't want you protecting me. I want you safe. I didn't go through all this is to put you in greater danger."
His hands went to her thighs to steady himself as he sat on his knees. He gave her a fanged grin as she said that. "I'm a lot safer than you are. It takes a lot to hurt me, and I heal fast. I'd rather get hurt then to see you get hurt."
She laid back down. "Please, don't say such things, Yori. I don't need protecting. I can take care of myself." His hands on her thighs made her skin hot, but his touch was harmless. He was only keeping himself from falling over while on his knees on the bed.
He smiled and leaned forward again. His hands pressed down on her thighs to keep himself steady as he leaned in just inches from her face. "I know, but humans and Eldarians alike aren't going to like that a human is doing this. So you might as well have an Eldarian body guard to keep all the baddies away."
His hands slid up slowly. This seemed familiar, like he should know it. Pressing his lips to her's once more, he let this feeling wash over him. It felt strange and familiar, but good. His tongue dipped into her mouth as he laid down on her.
Alana closed her eyes into the kiss and let his tongue wash over her mouth. Her hands stayed pressed to the bed so she wouldn't lead him on, but his hand were sliding dangerously upward. Finally, their lips parted and she let out a huff of air. "A body guard...that could explain why you live with me...someone to watch me while I'm all alone in a large house. There are Eldarian guards for many rich children. This could work, Yori..." she said in a deep voice.
Yori smiled down at her. Her cheeks were red. "See, I have good ideas," he smiled as he moved up. As he did so his hands moved to her chest and squeezed gently. The feeling was...rather strong. Before he could say anything else he leaned back down and captured her lips with his, his hands exploring her flesh with earnest.
Alana grabbed his hands and pushed him from her. Again, he sat back on his knees. "Please...don't do that...I won't be able to contain myself. It's wrong to want you like this," she explained.
He shook his head quickly. "You want Eldarians to be the same as humans. If we're the same...then why is it wrong? I want you. You want me. So why can't we want each other?"
"I'm fine with putting my life at risk. But I'm not fine with putting yours and you family's life at risk."
"But that's not fair," he told her. "I know the risks. I'm willing to take them too!"
She cupped his face in her hands. "And what of your family? Would you risk a few moments of lust and passion for their lives?"
Yori looked at her and then looked away. He bit his lip while trying to think of the answer. He liked Alana...but his sisters were his family. He couldn't live with himself if something happened to them. "There...there has to be a way," he said as he looked back at her. "A way that I can be with you and keep my sisters safe."
Alana looked away. Once again, she wanted to cry. "I wish there were a way..." She covered her hand with her heart. "But every time you touch me...every kiss...you are putting their lives at risk," she whispered.
Yori looked down. It was because he was the prince. Because he was related to his sisters because- "What if I wasn't Yori?" He looked down at her. "What if Yori disappeared? What if I was Haden? People already know Haden, and Haden has no family. Or I could work hard and get money to get one of those holo thingies that change your appearance."
"You are willing to give up your life...your family...for what?" she asked shaking her head. "For a moment of lust? To see me naked?"
"I'm letting him stay because I would rather him be here, safe, then out there wandering around trying to figure things out. I'm letting him stay because you once asked me to. If you want him home, ask him to come home," she said in her defense.
