Chapter 2
Dizzy Miss Lizzy

David was happy once the bell rang signaling the end of Advisory, it seemed that his holding period would not be his favorite class of the year, although technically he supposed it wasn't really a class, more like a study hall designed to help out all the poor rich kids, who were too busy partying to do their homework the night before. In his hand book it had clearly stated that Advisory class work was to be "a light fun activity to boost brain activity in the mornings before the core classes." Yeah sure.

David was shook from his, somewhat spiteful, musings as the door to his classroom banged open and a hoard of students poured in. At least they looked like a better bunch then his Advisory class, David was just about to write the assignment when he stopped, halfway out of his seat. His eyes drank in the sight before him greedily, and he knew he must have looked quite stupid (halfway standing up and sitting down) but he could not bother himself with that fact just now. Her hair was the color of honey and lazily flowed down her back and across her shoulders, she wore a thin black cardigan over a light pink top, and clutched her books to her chest. She was surrounded by a herd of giggling girls, but she herself was quiet, pulled into herself, and reserved. She looked up and David was jolted as her light blue eyes momentarily found his she tilted her head for a second, probably trying to place him, and then just as fast her head was down, and she had left her friends to claim a seat at the back of the room. Her friends rolled their eyes, and moved to take places in the front, and yet she merely placed down her books, slid into her seat and peered out the window.

David frowned, obviously this girl was a bit antisocial, or perhaps she was just having one of those days?

"Hello I'm Mr. Chadrick and I'll be your Creative Arts teacher this year," he said rising completely as the bell rang. He grabbed a stack of papers on his desk and began to pass them down each row. "As you will see the class guidelines, over view, and expectations are explained in detail in the course syllabus, please quietly read through the packet, and then we will discuss what you have read, and answer any questions you may have," David said smiling lightly. He tried to ignore the flirty looks he was receiving from the girls in the class, once more his eyes strayed to the girl in the back of the room, her head was down, and she was reading intently through the packet her lips moving along as she read to herself.

"Since I'm new here, I think it'd best to have a seating chart for the first few days, just so I can get to memorize your names after that, feel free to move around." David said picking up his attendance from his desk.

"Vanessa Abbott, Jessica Anderson, Amelia Bayley, Ella Bennett," David paused as the girl who had captured his attention, stood up silently, grabbed her books, and moved to take the fourth seat in the front row. He could hear her friends tease her, and her quiet replies even as he continued to read off names from the list. Next to her the solitary boy from before, Eric Bingley, was placed.

"The school has already provided you with all the books you will need for this year, we will begin in reading The Scarlett Letter, one of my personal favorites," David said as he began to pass out a novel to each student. When he came to Ella in particular, he allowed his fingertips to softly glide over the smooth skin of her wrist, lingering, before moving on. His antics were of course not enough to draw attention, but he was sure as he walked away, that he could feel her questioning eyes on his back.

"Please pay attention to each chapter throughout the novel because there will be a project due soon."

David was surprised at the lack of groans from his students, but then again this wasn't an obligatory course, so most students in the class were there because they either had a passion for the subject, or as a free passing grade. David chuckled quietly as he gazed at his students, if they thought they were getting an easy-A they were sorely mistaken.

"For now since it is only the first day of class, lets start with introductions. Please stand and tell us your name, age, grade, and then something interesting about you." David suggested.

The first girl in the row stood up, she was quite short and a little on the plus side, with short curly brown hair, and brown eyes hidden behind thick wire-rimmed glasses. "I'm Vanessa Abbott, 15, I'm a sophomore and...um I like creative art." She said, tearing at the bottom of her, most likely, super expensive vest.

David smiled. "Well I hope you do, because it would suck for you to be in this class and hate it," David chuckled, "so tell me something I don't know about you."

She blushed and looked down. "Um I-I uh like," she paused and pushed a lock of curly hair behind her ear, "I like to sing."

Her blush deepened at the surprised reactions from the students. David nodded at her. "That's great Vanessa, perhaps you can sing for us sometime. "

She jerkily nodded and looked down at her lap.

The introductions continued in this manner, and as David loosened up and even began to tease his students, his eyes continued to wander to Ella as she doodled in a notebook.

"Your turn Ms. Bennett." David called. She was still scribbling in her notebook. "Ms. Bennett kindly stand and give your introduction," David said louder. The class tittered as he was once more ignored.

"Ms. Bennett!"

She snapped her head up, her eyes wide in surprise as she blinked, he watched as a rosy blush slowly crept across her cheeks.

"Um Yes?" she asked.

David smirked. "Introduce yourself to the class Ms. Bennett."

She nodded and stood from her seat. David's attention was drawn to how the sunlight drifting in from the window caused sparkles to shine in her honey colored hair, and how plump and red her lips were as she drew her bottom lip between her teeth.

"Um I'm Ella Bennett, I'm 16 and a Junior, and I like to dance."

David nodded.

"I'm Eric, I'm 17 a junior, and I repair old bikes." The boy drawled lazily and then sat back down in his seat.

David was surprised to see Ella's attention now focused on the boy beside her.

The class continued through the introductions as Ella went back to scribbling in her journal.

At the end of the introductions the bell rang signaling the end of the period. David sighed, relieved that he had come out of his first real class, without any major mishaps, it seemed like it would be an interesting year with his students...he just didn't know how right he was.

He watched as Ella stood gracefully from her seat and packed up her stuff. She shoved everything, including that small pink notebook that she seemed to love so much, into her messenger back and made her way to the door. She waited patiently for her friends as they slowly made their way past his desk, giggling and winking at him, before they left.

Somehow he seemed to be able to make his way through the rest of his classes without much incident, even though he couldn't seem to shake Ella from his mind, he honestly did not know why he was being so affected by the girl. She was admittedly quite beautiful, but beyond that he wasn't sure why she had caught and held his interest. He was not some hormone ridden teenage boy anymore, and so he shouldn't be so affected simply by a beautiful face. He frowned, there was just something about her....something alluring.

David shrugged out of his thoughts at the knock that sounded at his door. He looked up as Ms. Dawson entered the room smiling brightly. "So How was your first day?" She asked from where she stood in his doorway.

David smiled.

"Well besides being hit on by a few hormone crazed teenage girls, as well as quite a surprising number of their male counterparts, quite good I guess-well no one was maimed or anything." He said jokingly.

Lizzy nodded. "Yeah I probably should have warned you about that, it seems that whenever a young relatively good looking teacher is hired, the student body is sent into a dither." She said seriously.

David chuckled, quite charmed with this woman already...honestly who used the word dither?

"Well I'm just about packed up, hopefully no young delusional teen is waiting to accost me on my way to my car." David said as he stood and began to pack up his things.

Lizzy tucked a short lock of blond hair behind her ear and nodded. "Yes that would be quite horrid, how about I walk you to your car, just to be sure of course, and you should undoubtedly stop to grab a bite to eat before you head home, just to shake them off you know, and I should probably go with you, of course...as er back up." She rambled nervously.

Again David fought down the urge to chuckle. "Of course, anything to get them off my tail. I'll be ready in a few."

David made his way to the teacher parking lot with Lizzy. She clambered into a charming orange, rusting, vintage beetle and followed him through the ridiculously wealthy section of town, until they had crossed into the area for student housing, and middle class homes. This area was filled with diners, and moderately inexpensive restaurants. David parked in the parking lot of O'Charleys and waited at the door as Lizzy made her way to him.

They shared a booth and bonded over their shared love for root beer and curly fries.

He was completely at ease around her, he realized, and to be truthful, it made him miss his sister. She was a lot like Lizzy in some aspects. They both were smart and yet dizzy, nervous, and somewhat silly. It made him slightly home sick. They chatted amicably all throughout dinner until they noticed their food had gotten cold, and then shared a laugh at that fact.

As David let himself into his house he smiled to himself, it seemed he'd found a little bit of something like home in Wisteria. Something he hadn't thought was possibly.

"Buddy I'm home!" he called as his Great Dane bounded over to meet him at the door.

"What no slippers?" David joked to himself as he scratched behind the large dogs ears.
