Chapter Twelve: Revealed Relationship

 

Thirteen days later, the evening before the first day of classes, Zade and Ryleigh made their way back to campus. Ryleigh hummed along with the radio, smiling as she watched the scenery pass by through the window, stealing a glance at her boyfriend every now and then.

 

`My boyfriend…' she played around with the word in her mind a bit, smiling a bit wider, `I like how that sounds…'

 

“Penny for your thoughts?” Turning her head fully to face him, Ryleigh simply grinned at the red head, Zade raising an eyebrow with a smirk.

 

“I was just thinking…” she murmured, feigning secrecy.

 

“About?” Zade moved the hand that had been resting on his knee to reach out and grabs hers, intertwining their fingers gently.

 

“Us…” she breathed, gazing down at their interlocked fingers and tightening her grip slightly, Zade replying in the same manner, “About how much we've changed in such a short time…”

 

Zade's reply was a chuckle as he turned his gaze back to the road ahead of them, keeping her hand in his.

 

“It's what fate had planned for us, I think,” Ryleigh glanced at her boyfriend, waiting for him to elaborate, “think about it, Ryleigh. The dreams, the visions, that book… everything points to us winding up together, don't you think?” The blonde thought about it for a while, another smile soon tugging on her lips.

 

“I've never believed in fate,” her eyes flicked up to his, dual orbs searching his own honey ones, “till now at least.”

 

Zade stared at her hard, turning back to the road and driving silently. Ryleigh feared she'd said the wrong thing until, stopping at a red light, Zade turned and grabbed her arms gently, pulling her forward to capture her lips with his. The blonde squeaked when she felt his tongue brush against her lips, opening compliantly and whimpering slightly when it entered her mouth and brushed against her own tongue.

 

The two young adults jumped apart, blushing furiously, when the person behind them honked their horn. Zade coughed once and drove through the green light, now only about a block away from the campus.

 

Unable to help herself, Ryleigh began giggling, soon bending over in her seat she was laughing so hard.

 

Zade simply rolled his eyes at his giggly girlfriend, smiling despite himself. He had to admit, at least to himself, that hearing her laugh made him feel warm inside. It was just one of those sounds that can't help but cheer a person up, even when they're feeling down or miserable.

 

“We're here,” he interrupted her giggle fit, pulling into the parking lot of the campus. Parking it in one of the spaces nearest Ryleigh's apartment, Zade undid his seatbelt and opened his door, stepping out. Closing the door, he walked around to Ryleigh's side and opened her door, holding a hand out to the blonde.

 

“Since when are you such a gentleman?” Ryleigh laughed, taking his hand and pulling herself out of the vehicle, gasping when he tugged and spun her into his arms, cheeks flushing when he smirked down at her.

 

“Would you rather I not be a gentleman?” he asked huskily, leaning down slightly.

 

“Ass…” she breathed, leaning up and closing her eyes, Zade's lips a mere millimeter from hers…

 

“I think we interrupted something…” The two jumped apart once more, turning red when they turned to see an amused looking Nathaniel and Kaelyn watching them from a bit off, smiling brightly.

 

“Erm… hey guys,” Ryleigh laughed, rubbing the back of her head embarrassedly.

 

“I take it you two had a good vacation,” Kaelyn giggled, Nathaniel chuckling along with her.

 

“Seems you two are closer then you were when you left…” Zade smirked, embarrassment gone, and hooked an arm around Ryleigh's waist, pulling the woman against his side.

 

“We're dating,” he replied, Kaelyn and Nathaniel grinning wider.

 

“It's about time,” Kaelyn whacked Nathan on the arm, laughing.

 

“Be nice you,” she chastised, Nathaniel rolling his eyes but doing as she said. The four chatted for a bit longer before going separate ways, Zade aiding Ryleigh in carrying her luggage up to her apartment.

 

“Kayley?” Ryleigh called after opening the door, looking around the kitchen and living room of the seemingly empty apartment. Spotting a note on the table, Ryleigh picked it up, eyes scanning over the message.

 

 

`Leigh,

staying over at BF's, see you tomorrow. Hope your trip was fun!

Sighing, Ryleigh moved to the garbage pail and tossed the note, leaning back against Zade's chest when she felt his arms wrap around her middle.

 

“You alright?” he breathed into her ear, resting his chin on her shoulder. Ryleigh nodded.

 

“I'm fine. I just wish she was around more often… lately it seems like I live here alone,” she admitted, closing her eyes a bit and allowing herself to bask in the comfort her boyfriend's embrace gave her.

 

They stood there for a little while, content with just being in each others presence. The peace was shattered when a sudden roar of thunder sounded in the distance, and Ryleigh's eyes snapped open, the blonde turning in Zade's embrace to burry her face in his chest, whimpering softly.

 

Zade simply stroked her hair, knowing that was all he could do to calm her. He glanced at the clock, sighing at the time.

 

“Ryleigh, it's late, I should be getting home…”

 

“Don't go,” surprised, Zade looked down to see his girlfriend looking up with frightened eyes, “You can stay here tonight. Please?”

 

Zade had learned, during their vacation, that he could never refuse Ryleigh anything when she gave him that look, and so he nodded, tugging her gently towards her bedroom. He waited outside while she changed into her pjs, then entered and stripped off his own shirt before climbing into her double bed in his pants. Ryleigh snuggled up to him immediately, surprising Zade. Generally, it was him who pulled her over to cuddle.

 

Smiling slightly, Zade kissed her gently and began stroking her hair, waiting until she was asleep before following after.

 

He thanked fate for allowing him to be there that night.

Yay, another chapter out X3 Fairly pointless this time, just showing Zade and Ryleigh's closer relationship and getting them back to campus. Hope you enjoyed!
