Chapter Sixteen: Reincarnation of Light

Drifting slowly into consciousness, Ryleigh's sleepy mind wandered back to the dream she and Zade had shared the night before. She knew he'd seen it to, for he'd be there with her the entire time, witnessing the rather… intimate time shared by their past lives. The details jumping back into her thoughts caused her face to flush a lovely cherry red, her back stiffening slightly when Zade's husky chuckle reached her ears, his chest vibrating against hers. Opening one eye, she looked up at her boyfriend's amused expression and immediately knew that he wanted to talk about the dream. Or, more or less, tease the hell out of her about it.

“Have a good sleep, Ryleigh?” he purred, running a hand through her messy blonde locks, smirking when her face simply flushed an even deeper red. She stuck her tongue out at him and proceeded to turn her face into her pillow.

“We shouldn't have seen that,” she muttered darkly, keeping her face buried in the pillow, “that's one of the most sacred moments two people can share and we spied on them…”

Zade sighed, knowing she had a point but not completely agreeing with it. Grabbing her arm gently, he managed to roll her over so she was on her back, draping his own over her waist and snuggling up to her side, cheek resting against her shoulder. Ryleigh allowed herself to fall into a state of calm, surrounded by the feeling of safety being in Zade's arms gave her. She was just about ready to drift off again when Zade's voice cut through her hazy mind.

“Yes, we witnessed something normally meant to be shared only by the two involved,” he murmured, leaning over slightly to nuzzle his face against her neck, pressing a soft kiss against her flesh, “but Ryleigh, at one point, we were them. If we truly are Rye and Preia's reincarnations, then that moment was shared by us. All we witnessed was a memory our current selves have forgotten.” Ryleigh stayed silent, thinking about what he'd said.

“You're right,” she admitted finally, glancing back at him with a blush spread across her cheeks again, “but that doesn't mean I'm any less embarrassed about what we saw last night…”

Zade grinned, “Of course not love,” he kissed the tip of her nose, “I'd be worried if you didn't feel bad about witnessing what we did last night. Now,” he paused again, moving to get up, “let's go out!”

“Wha-Zade!” Ryleigh squealed when she was suddenly lifted, cradled bridal style in her boyfriend's arms, “what're you doing?!”

Zade simply grinned, setting her down on her feet and pushing her towards the washroom.

“Go get ready, we're going out today,” he grinned, back peddling to the door, “I don't feel like staying inside today, and it's a PA day, so why not?”

Smiling at her boyfriend's attitude, Ryleigh did as he had asked and got ready quickly, heading back out into the kitchen just to be dragged from her apartment and out into the city. They had fun, first sneaking into a couple of movies (something neither had done since they were teenagers). One was the Ring Two, the second Employee of the Month. Ryleigh and Zade laughed throughout both films, and they amused themselves by tossing popcorn at the other people in the theatre and acting innocent when the people looked their way.

After the movies, they headed out to do some shopping. Ryleigh selected a few outfits (with Zade's help, of course) and picked up some accessories to go along with them, Zade insisting that he pay for the lot as a treat. It wasn't until much later that night, after they had eaten and done everything they had wanted to do, that they decided it was time to head home. Swinging their joined hands between them, the two walked quietly, simply enjoying each others presence. They turned down an alley that would lead to where Zade's car was parked, pausing when a man appeared in front of them.

“Where're ye going?” he slurred, stepping into the light cast from the pole above them. He held an empty beer bottle in his hand. Zade pulled Ryleigh behind him, eyes narrowing.

“We're simply passing through, move aside,” he spoke calmly, more for Ryleigh's benefit then anything else. Hearing Ryleigh gasp, he turned his head and cursed under his breath when he realized there was another one behind them.

“I dun think so, boy. Leave the girl, and maybe we'll let yah live,” the drunk laughed then, a horrid sound that grated in Zade's ears. Zade grit his teeth, starting when the drunk's eyes widened and he began to back away. He felt a sudden warmth emanating from Ryleigh, and turned, gaping. A small yellow jewel hung in the air just in front of Ryleigh, just above where her birthmark was.

The drunks turned and ran, screaming about demons and witches. Zade watched as a chain formed around Ryleigh's neck, the jewel coming to rest just against her chest as the blonde fell back in a faint. Zade caught her silently, scooping her up and heading out towards his car. He gently placed her in the passenger seat then got in himself, heading back to his apartment.

Ryleigh blinked when she suddenly found herself standing in the chamber from the night before, glancing around. Why was she dreaming? She couldn't remember even falling asleep. Turning at the sound of voices, she realized that Rye and Preia were still there, the two having just gotten dressed. Judging by the fact that she could clearly see the halfling's face, but that Zade was nowhere in sight, she decided that though they were probably touching, Zade was not asleep. Turning again, she focused on Preia when their first life, Fayrie, appeared and then stepped into Preia's body, her clothes shifting to those of the ancient priestess.

She noticed that something was different about her past life, but didn't have time to think about it as scenes suddenly flashed by her eyes. She saw the war, Rye's near death, and then the victory in a matter of seconds. But one thing would stand out in her mind when she woke up.

`Preia was pregnant!'

Her eyelids fluttering open slowly, Ryleigh realized she wasn't in her own apartment. She was gazing up at Zade from where her head rested on his lap, the red head looking down at her worriedly. From the little she'd seen of it before, Ryleigh realized they were in his apartment.

“Are you alright?” he questioned when she sat up, the blonde nodding.

“I'm fine… what happened? I can't remember…”

“You fainted just after this appeared,” he motioned to the jewel hanging around her neck, Ryleigh blinking in surprise.

“Weird…”

“Hey, Ryleigh…” she looked back at her boyfriend, waiting for him to continue, “would you like to move in with me?”

She blinked again, “You mean?”

“Come live in my apartment with me. You said you're alone a lot anyways, so I thought…” she shushed him with a brief kiss, smiling.

“I'd love to move in with you, Zade.”
