Original Stories Fan Fiction ❯ Through Harushi's Eyes ❯ Falling ( Chapter 7 )

[ P - Pre-Teen ]
The wind felt smooth as Harushi fell. She dreaded the bottom off the cliff. She thought about Yuji, how she will never be with him again if she died. The blood rushed to her head. Her heart was beating faster and faster the closer she got to the bottom. Her eyes were closed. She wanted to be at peace for one last time, even if it was without Yuji. She imagined herself falling out of the sky and into the ocean. She felt the cool water against her skin. There was no life in this sea just the crystal blue water. It seemed to clarify her soul. She kept heading downwards. The sea never seemed to end. She opened her eyes and saw the blue sea around her she saw the bubbles of air. She wondered when her dream would stop, and as that thought came to her head, the answer came to her. It came with a bone-breaking thud and the taste of blood. She had hit the bottom. She tried to scream, but both the fact that she had no strength and the blood filled her mouth overpowered that want. The pain she felt was beyond feeling, like when ice feels so cold it burns. She decided she would sleep a deep, deep sleep.

She woke in a dark place. There were dry bones everywhere. The place was covered in the kind of junk that you would find in those voodoo stores. There were books written in another language, and the only structures were the ruins of buildings. There were dark coloured jewels that glinted in an evil way. It was downright scary. Harushi looked for her voice, and when she found it, she was screaming in terror. “wh- what is this? Where am I! Where is Yuji?! Am I dead?!” she asked herself in a weary whisper. The pain came back to her. She tried to move, but the best she could do was drag herself along, leaving a trail of blood behind her. She got tired so she decided to give up. Suddenly, a strange monster appeared in front of her. Her eyes looked in horror. She tried to speak, but failed.
“I am a god of death.” The monster started in its deep, croaky voice. His mouth turned to a grin, then he started laughing. Harushi was about to ask, but he started to talk again. “I know who you are. I know what you are. If you have come here, you must be a Hino-Shini!” he spat.
“What –am –I?! Wh-" Harushi stuttered.
“Huh. Well, a Hino-Shini is pretty much a psychic.” It spoke of this as if it was old news.
“Where- am I? Wh-“ Harushi stuttered again, trying to speak.
“Now you are in the land of the gods of death. You are here because you died in your world. Right now, the human world is now...how could I say it...paused.” it explained in a bored way. Harushi was astonished.
“I’m dead, but I’m alive? I don’t...”
“Yep. You’re dead in your world, but you can go back there. You will stay here for about four days, and then you will leave, and go to your world. Oh, and because you are a Hino-Shini, you get an extra life. When you get sent back, you won’t be re-born; you will be where you were about three minutes before you died. So this means next time you die, you will be dead for life. Something like that. So don’t do anything stupid. I just thought I’d tell you all this now.” He explained. Harushi was still having trouble understanding.
“So I’m in hell, or heaven?” she asked, more keen to know her fate.
“No. this realm is only for gods of death and Hino-Shini. But when you die next time, even we don’t know where you’ll go.” It said, disappointed. Harushi felt the pain fade away from her, and stood up, even though there was blood smeared in her clothes.
“I think I get it now. But I’ve got one more question. What do you mean by “we”?” and as Harushi asked this, several other gods of death came out from the shadows.
“Welcome.” The first god of death said blankly.
