Chapter 3
Sunday was boring. Dad worked all day. And Sunday's were my day off. I did my laundry and I cleaned my room. It was a productive but boring day.
My alarm clock woke me up. I rolled over and hit the snooze button. Monday. Gah. I hated Monday's. I dragged myself out of bed. I stripped then threw on clothes. I stumbled to my door and yanked it open. Then I tripped down the stairs. I went to the kitchen and threw bread into the toaster. I then went to the sink and splashed water onto my face. That woke me up!
I looked at the clock. It read 5:30. AH. I had to be in my classroom in thirty minutes. Where was dad? He was supposed to be up by now. I ran upstairs and knocked on his door. "Dad it's time to wake up. Are you awake?" The answer I got was a snore. I rolled my eyes as I opened the door. There he was. Fan on, blinds closed, laying with his sheets tangled around him. He was laying diagonal to the bed, feet hanging off. I walked up to him, smiling. I shook his back. "Dad. Daddy. Daddy wake up. Dad!" He rolled over. "Dad!!" "Huh! What happened?" He had shot up into a sitting position. He was definitely disoriented. "Dad, it's Lyssa. It's five thirty. Time to go. Come on lazy bones. Get up." "It's five thirty? Crap! Okay. I'll be down in a minute." I walked out and shut the door behind me.
David was downstairs 10 minutes later. By that time I had eaten my toast, brushed my teeth, and made him coffee. I had just finished putting it into a thermostat. "Let's go" he commanded. "Been waitin all day." He smiled. "I forgot to set my clocks back an hour."
"I figured that out." We walked out the door. I climbed into the passenger's seat. He hopped in. "Oh. I forgot to ask. Did you do your homework?" "Of course. I did it while you were working." "That's my girl" He said proudly. I smiled at him. "Oh I almost forgot. Here's your coffee." He smiled. "Thanks so much, I really need it." " I know how cranky you get without it so I took the liberty of helping you out."I commented. He laughed. "I love you kid." "Love you too dad."
I walked up to the school smiling. "You're happy." Jess commented. "Yep" I said popping the p. Jess narrowed her eyes. "Why are you so happy? It's Monday. your usually a grouch." I smiled at her. "My father and I had a nice conversation, that's all." "Yeah. It's always a good thing when you and your parents are on the same side." Dylan said as he appeared next to Jessica, scaring her and making her jump. "DON"T DO THAT!! You scared me." Jessica scolded Dylan as we walked through the front doors of our school. Dylan left us as we arrived to our lockers. Jessica sighed. "And the torture begins" I just laughed at her expression and her words.
We walked into first period and I realized that I hadn't thanked Zack for what happened Friday. I also hadn't told him that Frankie said that he could have a free pizza anytime. Oh well I have all day to tell him.
As always we were a couple of minutes early, so, I looked for Zack but he wasn't there. Crap! And I needed to talk to him too. Then the bell rang and our teacher walked in. "Kay class. Today we are going to do equations but they will be in the story problem form. So." He turned around and wrote on the board. "If Steve is..." I drowned him out waiting for Zack to walk through the door. He didn't.
The bell rang, dismissing 1st period. But It scared the hell out of me because I was in a daydream and the sudden outburst made me jump. "Geeze Lyssa, Jumpy much?" Jess sarcastically asked. "The bell scared me, I was daydreaming." I replied in a sleepy monotone. "You okay Lys? You seem out of it." Dylan replied. "Oh she's just sad because that new kid isn't here" Jess answered. "What? Huh? NO! JESS!" I scolded. "Oh come on! Just admit you were daydreaming about him." Jess was getting frustrating. "I was NOT" I growled. Then I headed for second period.
Second period was the same, I had an assignment to finish reading the chapter. I mostly tuned out. Then the bell rang. I lazily picked up my things and walked out the door.
I reached my locker and Jess ran up to me. "He's here!" Jess sang happily. "What?" I sounded disoriented. "Your boyfriend's here, he just came to school late." Jess said happily. I ignored the fact that Jess announced Zack as my boyfriend and focused on the news. "Zack's at school? When? How do you know?" I asked. "Yes. Second period. Molly told me, they have the same second period." That was all I wanted. I grabbed my books and went to third hour.
When I got to third period Zack wasn't there yet, I took my seat and opened my notebook.
Then Jess rushed in , dragging Dylan behind her. "Come on, hot thick headed can you be! You love him!" Jess cried. "Only in your imagination." I snapped back.
"Really? Then why did you run here the second I told you he's here?" She asked very sweetly. "Drop it!" I demanded. "God Jess, leave her alone. If she says she doesn't like him then she doesn't!" Dyl said as he sat down angrily. Childishly Jess stuck her tongue out at him. "Whatever. I know a couple when I see em." She mumbled mostly to herself. "Maybe not now but someday. Yeah definitely someday." She added. Then class started.
