Chapter 6- Lullaby

Ginkotsu walked down the hallway to Renkotsu's room. To see the firebreather act like that made him sad for Renkotsu. “I guess that Renkotsu is still nervous about this whole thing…”

Ginkotsu got to Renkotsu's door and slowly opened it.

“Renkotsu? Are you okay?”

“GO AWAY!!” Renkotsu shouted as Ginkotsu ducked from shoe being thrown at him.

“Renkotsu..its okay…its just me..Ginkotsu..”

Renkotsu sniffled and Ginkotsu could tell by the sniffling that he had been crying. Renkotsu got up from his corner and blew fire on a candle sitting on his desk.

Ginkotsu looked at Renkotsu. It was totally obvious that he had been crying.

“Renkotsu…what's wrong?” Ginkotsu said as he sat on the floor next to Renkotsu.

Renkotsu looked at him and said,” I am scared to death…that is what is wrong with me….”

“Why? I thought that you wanted this child…..”

“Well…I do….but still the whole idea of going through this and the whole childbirthing thing scares me even more…”

“But you should not be..”

Renkotsu looked at his lover. “Why shouldn't I?”

Ginkotsu smiled and kissed him. “Because you have me by your side and nothing will be bad if you have me…”

Renkotsu smiled. “Thanks Ginkotsu..”

All of a sudden, Renkotsu gasped softly. Ginkotsu looked at him funny. “Renkotsu are you okay?”

Renkotsu chuckled. “The baby is trying to me that its okay as well…”

“you mean!?!??!”

“Yep…..the baby is kicking me right now…here Ginkotsu…” Renkotsu said as he placed Ginkotsu's hand on his stomach.

Ginkotsu smiled as he felt his child kicking his hand.

Renkotsu smiled back at him. “This child is very healthy….and is going to be strong too…I can tell…”

Ginkotsu smiled back. “Do you want to go back in the dining area…”

Renkotsu nodded as him and Ginkotsu walked out of the room and down the hallway.

“So….are you ready to have this baby?” Ginkotsu asked.

“Oh yeah..I am ready for this pregnancy thing to be over with…”

“I am sure that you are …you know….we could go out on another outing if you want to…”

Renkotsu's eyes lit up. “Really…um……could we take a couple of people with us?”

“It depends who those people are…” Ginkotsu said.

“Well…I was thinking about letting Amadala and Ayana tag along with us…”

“Well..that is fair enough..Bankotsu and Jakotsu are out practicing again so why not? Everyone else is gone…”

Ginkotsu and Renkotsu walked back into the room to see Amadala rocking Ayana to sleep and singing her a lullaby.

“Aww…she is asleep…” Ginkotsu whispered as Amadala nodded back at him.

“Its hard to believe that she is 7 months old now…time is going by so fast…..she just quit nursing off of Bankotsu and now she is trying mushed up foods…pretty soon she will walking and talking…” Amadala said as she kissed Ayana.

“I am sure that Bankotsu is happy about the quit nursing part…” Renkotsu chuckled soflty.

Amadala chuckled back. “Yeah….we were worried when she quit nursing but Suikotsu said that that meant she was ready to start on mushed foods and drinking milk less and less..”

“That is good to hear..say Ama?” Renkotsu asked.

“Yeah….”

“Well…we were going to go on an outing and since the rest of the guys are not here, we were wondering if you wanted to go with us..” Ginkotsu finished.

Amadala nodded and smiled.

“I shall like that very much…” Amadala got up off of the floor and looked down at Ayana.

“I guess she is alright for right now…I will take some food and cloth diapers for her just in case..” Amadala said as she walked back to her and Bankotsu's room.

It took Amadala a few minutes but she finally walked back into the room.

“Having a baby is difficult sometimes…you have to make sure that you carry enough for the baby…” Amadala chuckled to herself as she wrapped Ayana up in a blanket and rested her on Amadala's chest.

“Where are we going guys?” Amadala said as they closed the doors and walked out into the sunshine.

“Well…I was thinking about us going to the edge of the forest where the meadow is at and relax..” Ginkotsu said.

“Do you want me to take the horse for you Renkotsu?” Amadala asked.

Renkotsu shook his head “no”. “I want to walk as much as possible…its going to be harder to walk when I get close to birth so I might as well enjoy it..”

Amadala nodded. “True enough..”

The whole group walked through the woods and to the clearing.

Amadala sighed as she sat a blanket down on the grass and layed a sleeping Ayana on it. She then giggled and twirled around. “I love when its this time of the year….the leaves are falling and its getting chilly.”

Renkotsu nodded. “It looks like I will be having a winter baby..” He placed his hand on his stomach and smiled.

Amadala smiled and then breathed in the fall air. “You know…my mother used to sing to me a lullaby when I went to sleep…maybe you can sing it to your baby….”

Ginkotsu looked at Amadala. “Tell us what is this song…”

Amadala smiled and began to sing. “Sa-ku-ra, sa-ku-ra, ya-yo-i, no so-ra0ha, mi-wata-su, ka-g-iri, ka-su-mik-a, ku-mo-ka, ni-o-iz-o, i-zu-ru, i-za-ha, i-za-ha, mi-ni, yu—kan.”

Renkotsu smiled. “Cherry blossom song, am I right?”
Amadala nodded.

Renkotsu sang. “Cherry blossoms, cherry blossoms, are everywhere, Like a cloud form—out the sky! Mist of blossoms fill the air! Cherries-cherries blossoming! Come and see, come and see; Let all see and sing”

“How did you know that song?” Ginkotsu said.

“My mother sang it to me as well …everynight before I went to sleep…” Renkotsu smiled at the thought of his mother.

“I was wondering how you knew the song..” Amadala said.

Renkotsu gasped softly and stroked his stomach. “Apparently the baby liked it as well…that will be the baby's lullaby to put it to sleep…”

Renkotsu looked back to see Ginkotsu and Amadala staring at him. He shook his head. “Guys….quit looking at me like that..”

Ginkotsu grinned. “Sure…you are warming up to the baby…I know it and now Amadala knows it…”

Renkotsu sighs. “The gig is up…yes, this little brat has finally grown on me…..I guess its just the thought of having a child to carry on after I die again..”

“Finally..the tough Renkotsu confeses that he has been taken down by a child..” Ginkotsu said while chuckling.

Renkotsu chuckled as well and laid down on the grass. “I wonder if I will make a good mother….”

“Why the mother part?” Amadala said as she looked at Renkotsu.

Renkotsu shrugged. “I am carrying the child and giving birth so in lame terms, it kinda makes me the mother besides..”

Renkotsu placed his hand on his stomach. “Its sounds kinda nice…”

Ginkotsu and Amadala just looked at each other and smiled.

“I am glad that you have found that spirit to warm up to the baby..” Ginkotsu said.

Renkotsu smiled and looked through a basket that contained food in it. He found a sweet roll and began to munch on it.

“Are you hungry?” Ginkotsu said as Amadala looked around the basket and found a sandwich.

“Oh yeah…I got the munchies..” Renkotsu said while chuckling.

Renkotsu, Ginkotsu, and Amadala stayed in the meadow well until dark when they decided to leave.

Renkotsu smiled to himself as they walked into the forest. He thought of his child and what the outcome of his life will be.
