“Reigning Over All”
<>||<>||<>
Jinen Crass: one of the founders of the Pokemon Trainer’s Club in Viridian City. A strikingly handsome man standing at six foot two, he had wavy light brown hair with tinges of gray and stunningly bright green eyes. The man was also a well-known alchemist.
“So what do you know about this Jinen guy?” Ash asked as the group walked along the main road in Viridian City. Misty looked around, and then back at the others. “He’s a friend of mine. I studied under him for a year when I was younger. It was way before I met you Ash.”
“You studied alchemy?” Duplica asked. The red head nodded. “I didn’t learn that much, considering the short time I was there, but I know how to melt down the metal used to create Pokeballs.”
“Melting metal doesn’t seem that hard.” Brock said. Misty suppressed a laugh as she stared at him. “What?” he asked. “You don’t know much about alchemy do you?” she asked. The dark haired master shook his head. She laughed fully at the blush that crept over his dark face.
“So does he spy on Rocket or something?” Ash asked, bringing them back to the subject. Duplica placed her finger on her chin in thought. “That would be a weird hobby. But then again, it would be very useful. Keeping tabs on Rocket could be a job within itself.” She said. Misty nodded.
“He doesn’t really have any friends. Well, other than myself, that is. It makes it easier for him to infiltrate and get secret information on Rocket’s next move.” She said.
A slight breeze wafted through the quiet city as the group walked along. Since it was early in the morning, the only people who were up and about were the people who worked the morning shifts.
Misty led the group of masters to a small-secluded patch of trees near Viridian Forest’s edge. They came to a small cabin in the middle of a clearing. The red head knocked three times on the window, and then once on the door. A tall man with light brownish-gray hair opened it and smiled upon seeing Misty.
“So, what brings you here little Misty?” he asked. Ash arched an eyebrow and smiled at the obvious nickname. Misty growled. “Shut up Ash.” She said. She looked up at Jinen and smiled irritated. Jinen smiled back and stared at Ash with interest. “I heard there was a kid with a Pikachu who was always messing up Rocket’s plans. You look a lot like him, but I don’t see a Pikachu.” He said. Ash turned around and pointed toward his pack. A small yellow paw poked out of the top and waved lazily.
“Pika...” the little mouse said with a yawn. Jinen laughed. “So you are the boy who foiled all of their plans. I also heard that you destroyed Teams Magma and Aqua of the Hoenn region. I’m impressed.” Ash nodded and stared off into space. Duplica stared at the handsome man and smiled.
“Aren’t you going to invite us inside?” she asked sweetly. The older man looked down at her and smiled as he nodded. He swung the door open and swept his hand to the side. “Make yourselves comfortable.” He said. Duplica grinned and walked into the cozy cabin.

“I believe that this region needs a strong and capable leader. The Johto and Hoenn regions, as well as the Orange Islands, are certainly amiable toward us, but the time will come when they will strike and leave us broken and without any allies to lean on. Therefore, I wish to appoint Lillian O’Dell as the first Kanto leader. She is a tough yet negotiable woman who believes that this region comes first.” The representative bowed and left the podium as camera lights flashed and people clapped. A member of Kanto Press stood up and held out his microphone.
“Mr. Giovanni! Could you spare a moment please?” the man shouted. The dark gray haired man stopped walking and turned. “Yes?” he asked casually. The man faltered a little, but then regained his composure. “Why are you in the political campaign now? Weren’t you the leader of Team Rocket?” The crowd seemed to flinch at those last words.
Giovanni smiled and waved his hand in the air in front of him. “I used to be the leader of what is now called Rocket, but a daring young man challenged me to a Pokemon match for the organization and won. I’m a retired terrorist, and I’m helping my daughter with her campaign now. She is all that matters to me.” A member of Pokemon Times stood up and raised her hand. Giovanni’s eyes shifted over to her as he placed a warm smile on his face.
“Is it true that Rocket is behind the recent string of attacks on Pallet and Lavender Town?” she asked. This time everything seemed to stop as the crowd remembered what had happened just two days ago. The ex-leader of Team Rocket also seemed to linger on those thoughts. He turned back around as a dark aura surrounded his body. “Now is not the time to talk about such trivial matters.” He growled. The woman, obviously taken aback, unwisely pressed on. “Trivial matters? Two of Kanto’s most jovial towns have been destroyed in just a matter of two days! How can that be trivial?” she asked harshly. Giovanni walked out of the conference room angrily as the woman screamed and grabbed her head. She fell over as her eyes rolled into the back of her skull.
A scrambling of feet and screams of people on the other side of the door could be heard clearly, as Giovanni and Lillian headed toward the exit. “You didn’t have to kill her father.” Lillian said calmly. There was an absence of emotion in her voice that would scare the average person into hiding. The gray haired man looked down at his doleful daughter and sighed.
“She was being too inquisitive. I won’t let anything ruin your campaign. This is too important.” He said. Lillian looked up at her father and forced him to look her in the eyes. “Father...” she began. Giovanni cut her off and walked out of the building without her. Most of the press members had finally made their way out of the conference room. They all seemed to gasp when they caught sight of Lillian, and they all rushed toward her with a barrage of questions.
“Miss O’Dell!” one shouted enthusiastically. “What can you tell us about your father? Is he really a respected member of the community now, or is he just waiting for you to take the role of leader just so he can steal it away?” Lillian glared at the man. “You should really learn to keep your mouth shut.” She said as her eyes flared white. The man stopped moving and fell over, paralyzed. The crowd that had gathered hushed into silence. Murmurs floated through the room now as people started to wonder just how she had used the Glare attack. They looked down at the reporter, and then back up, and she was gone.

A few weeks had passed since the Pallet/Lavender incident. Now residing in Brock’s house, the gang tried to decide what their next move was to be. Duplica kicked back on the couch in the living room as she waited for the Rock Master to finish cooking lunch. Misty sat on the back porch playing with the fish in the Koi Pond. Ash was sitting at the kitchen table, silence pervading through him like a disease. Brock sighed as he set the stew to simmer on the stove.
“Ash, I wish you would talk to us. We couldn’t possibly imagine how you feel right now, but we’re concerned about your well-being. You know that we care for you.” He said. Ash looked up miserably and nodded. “Sorry.” He whispered. He ran his fingers through his longish black hair. “I just can’t believe that Tracey died right in front of me.”
Duplica took this opportunity to walk into the kitchen and pull up a chair beside Ash. She playfully slapped him on the back in attempts to cheer him up. “You’ve still got us right?” she asked. “Besides, we’ll find who ever killed him and I’ll bring my fist into his face like a cold and malicious hammer of justice.” She smiled and held up her left hand, which had morphed itself into the fist of a Geodude.
Ash looked at her and smiled faintly. He then decided to change the subject. “Where are you’re siblings?” he asked. Brock, who had just returned to the stove, smiled and sighed wistfully. “Well, most of them are old enough to become Pokemon trainers now. They set off about a month ago. I get letters from them every so often. The other three are with dad on the other side of Pewter. He didn’t like the fact that I have elemental properties floating around in me, so he took them and left. I’m not really complaining though...” With that, he stopped talking.
“Aww...you miss them don’t you?” Duplica asked. Brock simply nodded and stared at the stew. “But with you guys here, I don’t feel so empty now.” The blue haired woman smiled cheerfully. Misty entered the kitchen through the sliding glass door near the stove. She sighed as she joined the others at the table.
“What are we going to do about Giovanni?” she asked as she reflected upon Jinen’s words. “He’s obviously trying to take over Kanto. But in a non-violent way.” Duplica slumped back in her chair and stretched. “Well we also have to think about what Jinen said about his daughter Lillian. She actually might pose a threat to us.” She said. Misty nodded. “That’s only if the rumor is true. If she can use Pokemon attacks then we’ll be in trouble...Element Masters or not.”
“We can contact Lance and see if he knows anything about Lillian. League intelligence is almost as perfect as Jinen’s.” Brock said. The group made a quick agreement as Pikachu entered the scene eating a shiny red apple. “Pika?” he asked with a full mouth. Ash nodded. “Yeah. I’m okay.” He answered. “Pipikapi?” Ash nodded once more as Pikachu took another bite of the apple. Brock set the table and poured stew into each bowl.
“We can leave after we eat lunch. I don’t want the stew to go to waste.” He sat down with the rest of them and they all began to eat silently.

Trees swayed in the hot summer wind. Sweltering heat cascaded down upon the citizens of Indigo City like molten lava. Thankfully enough, autumn was right around the corner, bringing promise of rain and cool breezes. People and Pokemon alike drifted around looking for something to cool them selves off with. Fire hydrants were turned on as children waded happily through the puddles on the street.
Two Pokemon trainers and their Persian sat under a parasol on the sidewalk and moaned with boredom. One was a man with vivid blue hair that just barely reached his shoulders. He sported a white tank top and loose-fitting blue jeans. The woman’s hair was crimson, almost blood red, and pulled back into a ponytail at the nape of her neck. Her bangs, no longer pulled back, parted in the middle and framed her pretty face. Blue eyes stared at the man in front of her. The man stared back with green eyes as he held out his hand.
“I know you have a hair tie some where. I need it Jessie! Please!” he said in a whiny voice. The woman scowled. “The one in my hair is the only one I have James! Now shut up!” she shouted. James looked down at the table and frowned. Jessie’s sour look subsided as she sighed. “The new Boss is such a tight wad. I can’t believe he’s making us stay here in Indigo City. Butch and Cassidy could be out there doing more productive things! How dare she!” she screamed. James smiled and sweatdropped.
“Calm down Jessie. Just think of this as a vacation from catching Pikachu.” He said. The red head looked at her partner and smiled. “I guess I could think of it that way. At least I get a vacation while those two buffoons have to work. Hehe.” She leaned back in her chair and placed her arms behind her head. James looked around and placed his sunglasses over his bright green eyes. “Where is Persian? He was supposed to be getting us some snow cones.” Jessie held out a Pokeball and pushed the button on the front.
“Seviper. Go look for Persian and tell him to hurry! We’re starving and hot!” she exclaimed. “Seviper! Viper sevi!” the snake Pokemon hissed. It slithered off hastily. “So what are we going to do until then?” James asked, the boredom in his voice apparent. The red head shrugged and slouched down in her chair again.

Persian rounded the corner with two snow cones in tow. He smiled inwardly when he laid golden slanted eyes on his partners in crime. Seviper suddenly cornered him and hissed angrily. “What? What’s the matter with you Seviper?” the classy cat Pokemon asked. Seviper stayed silent, other than the occasional hiss, and slithered closer to him. Its eyes glowed a malevolent blood red with gold specks here and there. Persian sweatdropped and laughed nervously.
Seviper opened its mouth and a corrosive substance came out. The off-white cat jumped out of the way as the Acid attack hit the cement, making it hiss and gurgle. “What the hell do you think you’re doing?” Persian shouted, gaining everyone’s attention. A crowd began to gather as the two Pokemon circled each other preparing to attack. The huge snake lunged at its prey and wrapped itself around the struggling Pokemon.
“Get your slimy scales off of me!” Just as he said that, Seviper’s eyes began to glow. Persian struggled to get away, but the snake’s tail glowed purple, like it was about to use Poison Tail. He automatically stayed still and closed his eyes. Seviper hissed and bit down on the cat’s shoulder blade. Persian’s eyes widened and then dimmed when he looked at the opposing Pokemon’s eyes. His bright golden eyes became the same color as Seviper’s.
Jessie and James finally noticed the noise on the other side of the street and got up to investigate. The red head shrieked when she saw her Pokemon’s strangling hold on Persian. Seviper let go and the two Pokemon turned to meet the gaze of their trainers. Jessie angered and jabbed James in the side. “Ow!” he yelled as he rubbed the spot where she had poked him.
“Go! Dustox!” Jessie shouted. James got the picture and pulled out his own Pokeball. “Cacnea! I choose you!” he shouted. Two Pokemon appeared in a blaze of white energy. Dustox was a Bug type with huge red eyes and pretty colorful wings, and Cacnea, who had smothered James in painful hugs, looked like a cactus with five mouths.
“Cacnea! Pinmissile!” James exclaimed. The spikes on top of the cactus Pokemon’s head glowed white as smaller spikes launched themselves at Seviper and Persian. Jessie angered. “Don’t hurt them you idiot!” she exclaimed. “Dustox! Use your Sleep Powder on those two and knock them out!” Dustox nodded and flapped its wings as a blue sparkly powder dusted the area. Unknowingly, every person who had gathered around to watch was also put to sleep. James sighed and called back his green Pokemon.
“What’s wrong with them?” he asked. Jessie shrugged and called back Dustox and Seviper. “Let’s take them to Nurse Joy and see if she can do anything.” She said. The blue haired man nodded and pulled out a Pokeball. “We haven’t used Persian’s Pokeball in a long time.” He said wistfully. Jessie waved her hand around and walked away. “Just put him in there and let’s go.” She growled. James held up the red and white ball as a red beam of energy shot forth. It captured the sleeping cat and sucked him into the dark chamber.
