“Reigning Over All”

Jessie and James rushed toward the Pokemon Center at full speed. The glass double doors flew open hastily.
“Nurse Joy!” Jessie shouted.
She ran up to the counter and slammed her hands down upon it. The red headed woman in the nurses’ uniform looked at the two with worried eyes.
“I’m sorry, but there’s an urgent situation in Goldenrod City that I must attend to!” Joy said, her voice panic-stricken. Jessie scowled.
“We have a problem too, you know!” she exclaimed.
A little blond haired girl peeked out from around the corner of the desk that Joy was behind. Joy looked at her and smiled.
“Hope? Is everything okay?” she asked.
The little girl nodded. Her deep blue eyes were filled with unshed tears. Jessie and James looked down at the little girl.
“Who’s she?” James asked.
Joy ushered her out a little more until they could see all of her.
“This is Hope. She’s my assistant. She helps Chansey and Blissey with the side work when I’m extremely busy.”
“Who’s there Joy?” came a voice from the vidphone on Joy’s desk. The pretty nurse turned to look at the woman on the screen and frowned. “We have no time to waste. You have to get over here. All of the other Joys are waiting.” The identical Joy said.
Nurse Joy nodded. Jessie’s scowl deepened greatly as she pulled out Seviper’s Pokeball.
“I’m pretty sure we know what the problem over there is. We’re having the same problem here as well.” She said. “My Seviper attacked our Persian, and then they tried to attack us!” James shuddered.
“There eyes were almost blood red.” He said. Nurse Joy frowned again.
“Let me take a look at them.” She said. The Joy on the vidphone screen gained a look of shock.
“No! Don’t open that Pokeball!” she exclaimed.
“Why not?” James asked. Joy looked at them all.
“The Pokemon over here in Johto are aggressive. All they know how to do is kill. It’s unsafe to let them out of their Pokeballs until we can figure out what’s making them act this way.” She explained.
James looked at the Pokeball that contained his Cacnea.
“I wonder if they were affected too?” he said aloud. Jessie nodded.
“Probably.”
Nurse Joy looked down at Hope and smiled.
“You’re in charge until I get back okay?” she said. Hope nodded and straightened out her nurses’ uniform.
“You can count on me.” She said with a smile. She wiped her eyes and looked at Jessie. “If your Pokemon are affected, then I wouldn’t bring them out anymore. You could affect the Pokemon in the vicinity.” She said.
“Wow. She’s smart.” Jessie said with a smile.
Nurse Joy took out a Pokeball and held it toward Chansey.
“You’ll have to stay in here for a while.” She said. Chansey nodded.
“Chansey!” it said. A red beam of energy shot out and captured the pink Pokemon.
“I’ll be back as soon as I can so hold down the fort okay?” she said.
Hope nodded and saluted with a giggle. With that, Joy sprinted out the door and out of sight.

As the sun began to set, Ash and the group hastily retreated into the nearest Pokemon Center. They looked around for Nurse Joy, but she was nowhere to be found. Misty walked up to the desk and tapped on the small silver bell.
“Hello? Is anyone here?” she called out.
“Wait a second!” a young voice shouted. A little blond haired girl stepped out from behind a corner drying her hands on a hand towel. “Yes?” she asked.
Duplica looked on in wonder at the little girl as she continued not to stare at them.
“Where’s Nurse Joy?” she asked. The little girl, also in a nurses’ uniform, hopped onto the stool behind the desk and smiled as she draped the towel over her shoulder.
“Nurse Joy is at a meeting in Goldenrod City right now. She won’t be back until next weekend. Is there anything I can do for you?” she asked.
Ash looked at the little one and smiled. He took off his pack and rummaged until he found a couple of Pokeballs.
“Could you give my Pokemon a small check up?” he asked. The blond nodded and smiled as she took them from his open palm.
“We also need a place to stay for the night. Do you mind?” Misty asked.
“Not at all. Make yourselves at home.” She said.
“Thank you.” Duplica chirped.
“So what do we call you?” Brock asked. He smiled. She reminds me of my little sister Catherine. he thought.
“My name’s Hope.” She answered. Duplica laughed.
“I’ll bet you have other relatives that look just like you, too.” Hope nodded and brought out a picture. A whole group of Hope’s relatives were gathered into the shot. Brock looked at the picture and began to drool.
“The older one’s are so beautiful!” he exclaimed. Hope looked at him weirdly and pulled the picture out of his hands.
Misty held up her hand.
“I actually thought I’d never have to pull you away from a picture.” She mumbled. Brock complained as the red head pulled at his ear.
“Are all of the Joys assembled in Goldenrod?” Ash asked. Hope nodded.
“She was called earlier today. All of the Pokemon in the Johto region have become hostile. They gathered to see if they could find out what was going on.” She relayed.
“Every single one of them?” Duplica asked seriously. Hope nodded. Pikachu poked his head out of Ash’s pack and sighed.
“Pika.” He said.
“The Joy in Indigo City said that two people came in and reported that their Pokemon had also fallen victim to hostility. She said that the Seviper had turned hostile once it was let out of its Pokeball. It then attacked the trainer’s Persian, and the Persian became aggressive as well. The trainers were told to keep their Pokemon in their Pokeballs at all times until she and the others could find out what was wrong.”
Ash looked at Brock.
“Seviper and Persian? Could it be them?” he asked.
“It’s quite possible. They’re the only two people we know that have those Pokemon.” He said.
“Rocket?” Misty asked. Ash and Brock nodded. “But why would they be in Indigo?”
“I don’t know.” The group sat in silence as the tip of the orange-red sun sank below the earth.
