“So what did you think?”
“What did I think?” Lance asked.
“Well, was my speech terrible?” Red asked anxiously. “I mean, I tried really hard, but I'm not sure if I did well, and what if everyone laughs at me?”
“Red,” Lance said calmly, “Everyone goes through stage fright. You're not alone, and even if they did laugh, it doesn't have to affect you. After all, do you really care about the opinion of a fat, overfed man who knows nothing about pokemon training?”
“Um… no.” Red said, after a pause.
“Exactly. Personally, I thought you were wonderful. It wasn't too emotional, and you got your point across.”
Red felt rather relieved at that. “So you think I'll do well?”
“Definitely. If you're still nervous you can practice a few more times, but I think we're clear.”
Red beamed as he took a deep breath and shut down his PowerPoint presentation. “I think I need a break now. Can we get ice cream?”
“Certainly.”
They left the Plateau, two guards following discreetly at a distance, and bought large double scoops, blueberry cheesecake and rocky road for Red, and plain chocolate and vanilla for Lance.
Red knew Lance wouldn't lie to him, and that feedback was important, so if Lance said he would do well then of course he would!
And it made him happy.
Two days later, he gave his speech in front of the Kanto Governing Council, and that week, the bill was passed, banning the use of surveillance devices on trainers after three months.
It was a small victory, but definitely a useful one, and he was happy he had contributed to it.
