"Cassia, you've been asleep all day. Time to wake up honey." Her mom called up the stairs.
"Mom, what time is it?" She mumbled to herself. She glanced at the clock; it said 4:50 pm." Oh no! I have overslept. MOM! Why didn’t you wake me up sooner?" She said frantically pulling on her shoes.
She scurried downstairs to see her mother waiting for her.
"About time sleepyhead, Prof. Birch is probably waiting for you; hurry up okay?"
"Yes mom." She said dashing out the door.
She hurried out the door, walked next door and saw a house similar to hers. She walked up to the door and knocked. She waited but no one answered so she knocked once more, still no answer finally after the third knock a faint "Come in" was heard. So swallowing her pride she walked in.
"Oh, hello. And you are?" A young woman greeted her as she walked in.
"Hello ma’am, my name is Cassia Takashi and I just moved in next door." She said quickly.
"Oh, so your Cassia, my husband has been talking a lot about you. Your dad is the new Gym leader right? Hi! I am pleased to meet you. Would you like something to drink? Tea? Or soda perhaps? Please sit down. My name is Stella" Stella said heading for the kitchen.
"Uh, thank you, tea is fine and I am pleased to meet you ma'am." Cassia said sitting on the sofa.
"Enough with the "ma'am" just call me Stella. Here's your tea dear, careful it’s hot. We have a son about the same age as you. He was excited about making a new friend. He is upstairs, I think I just now he would love to meet you." Stella said smiling slightly.
"Y-you want me to go see him?" She asked blushing slightly. She always liked boys but never had the chance to talk to one her own age.
"Yes I do. Will you?" Stella asked.
"Yes ma'am, uh, I mean Stella I will." she said bowing respectfully as she was taught to do by her mom, and proceeded upstairs to the boy's room.
She shyly peeked into the room and saw him sitting at a desk. He was marking off a checklist: "Pokemon fully restored...Items all packed...and HEY! You...Who are you?" he said noticing her in the doorway.
She jumped a bit when he looked at her.
"I...I heard about you from your mom and my dad, Norman of the Petalburg Gym, I was hoping that you would be nice and we could be friends. Oh, this is silly, isn't it? I...I've just met you, sorry."
"Well, come on in." he said gesturing her in with his hand.
He looked at her for a moment then recognized her.
"Oh, you’re Cassia aren’t you? Moved in next-door right? I didn’t know you were a girl." He said putting his things away.
"Hey! What’s wrong with me being a girl huh?" Cassia interjected.
"Huh? Nothing. My dad, Professor Birch, said that our new neighbor was a gym leaders kid, so I assumed you’d be a guy. My name’s Brendan, so hi neighbor!" Brendan said smiling.
"Brendan where do I get a pokemon?" Cassia asked shyly.
"Huh? Hey Cassia don’t you have a pokemon at all?" he asked looking at her curiously.
"Uh, no I don’t, to be honest I didn’t even know where to get one." She said sheepishly.
"Oh. Do you want me to catch you one?" Brendan asked.
"Sure, Brendan that’d be great." She said smiling sweetly.
"Aw…darn I forgot…I am supposed to go help my dad catch some wild pokemon for his research. Some other time, okay? Sorry." He said putting on his backpack and leaving.
"Oh, man just when I make a new friend they up and leave oh, well." She said frowning. She proceeded downstairs to go and talk with his mother.
"Where has my husband gone? Just when you were visiting too…. that man can never sit still for too long…he might be at his lab." Stella said smiling and sighing at once.
"Thanks Stella, I’ll head over there. Bye." Cassia said walking out the door and heading for the lab. "Maybe I should check in first," Cassia said turning around and heading for home.
She arrived at her house and walked in. Her mom was waiting for her. "So did you introduce yourself to Prof. Birch?" Della Takashi asked.
"No. He was not home, but I did meet his wife and son their names are Stella and Brendan they are really nice." She replied. "I am going to go look around okay? Be back later." She said turning to leave again.
"Okay, but be careful and watch out for wild pokemon." Said Della, heading for the kitchen to prepare dinner for the two of them.
Cassia headed back to the lab and went inside.
"Wow. This must be the lab. Hello? Professor? Are you here?" she said looking around the lab.
"Hello? Who are you?" a voice broke the silence, startling Cassia she turned around at the sound of the voice.
"Oh. You must be Cassia, I’m afraid the professor’s not here, he’s out doing some field work north of here." Said an assistant.
"Oh. Okay I’ll go there then, thanks." Cassia said then she left.
She walked northward and saw a kid by some trees. "Hello. Who are you?" she asked as she approached her.
"My name is Mary. There are scary pokemon out there. I can hear their cries. I want to go and see what's going on, but I don't have any pokemon... Can you go see whats happening for me?" Mary said shaking slightly. "Somebody has to go help..." Mary said pacing. "I can hear someone crying for help..."
"Don’t worry Mary, I’ll go help." Cassia said heading up the road.
"Be careful." Mary said worriedly. Cassia smiled back at her. But suddenly she heard someone screaming.
"H-HELP ME!!" someone screamed.
She ran up the hill to see a man she presumed was Professor Birch being chased by a wild dog like pokemon. "That pokemon looks cool." She thought to herself.
"Hello! You over there! Please Help! In my bag! There’s a pokeball!" said the prof. Frantically.
Cassia ran to the bag, opened it and saw that it contained not one but three pokeballs.

"Uh, which one do ya want?" Cassia asked looking at the three pokeballs.
"Any one will do." He yelled.
"Uh, ok Pokeball Go!" Cassia said as she threw Birch’s pokeball to the ground.
"Torchic-Tor" said a little orange bird like pokemon.
"Ah, Torchic, good choice. Do you know what to do?" asked Professor Birch.
"Yeah, I do." Cassia said. It knows Scratch and Tackle right?"
Professor Birch nodded.
"Good." Cassia said determinedly.
"Torchic! Use Scratch attack!" Cassia ordered.
Torchic ran at the Poochyena, jumped up, landed on its back and started scratching the back of its head like crazy. The Poochyena was not happy; it turned its head to bite Torchic, but Torchic evaded the attack at the last moment. The Poochyena hit Torchic with a powerful Tackle attack that sent it reeling.
"Torchic, recover your footing and use Scratch again." Cassia encouraged. Torchic obeyed and did the same thing over.
"Torchic. Try a Tackle attack." Cassia advised. Torchic plowed as hard as he could into the Poochyena, it skidded along the ground and then deciding it had enough got up and ran away with its tail between its legs.
"Yeah! I won. Great job Torchic you were great." Cassia said happily.
Torchic jumped up and down in response to her praise.
"Return Now." she said returning it to its pokeball.
"Here's your pokemon Professor. Are you all right?" Cassia asked handing him the pokeball.
"Whew...I was in the tall grass studying wild pokemon when I was jumped by that Poochyena. She thought I was invading her den space. You saved me. Thanks a lot. Oh? Hey, you're Cassia! Glad to meet you, but this is not the place to chat, so come by my lab later, okay?" Professor Birch said as he gathered up his bag and headed back to his lab.
"That Torchic was cute and strong. A pokemon like him would make a great partner." Cassia said to herself as she headed in the same direction Professor Birch had gone.
She got back to the lab and went inside to see Professor Birch waiting for her.
"Ah, good you've arrived. So, Cassia...I have heard so much about you from your father, the way you battled earlier you pulled it off with no problem. I guess you have your father's skill with pokemon in you after all. Oh, yes as thanks for rescuing me, I'd like you to have the pokemon you used earlier, a Torchic wasn't it? While your at it why don't you give a name to your pokemon?" he said handing her the poke'ball.
"I'll think about it." she replied politely.
"If you work hard with your pokemon, develop a strong bond, and gain experience, I think you'll make a really great trainer. Brendan is out on Route 103, just north of Odale Town, studying pokemon. It might not be a bad idea for you to go see him, what do you think?" asked Birch.
"Yes sir, whatever you say." she replied.
"Great! Brendan should be happy too. Get Brendan to teach you what it means to be a trainer." Birch said patting her shoulder affectionately.
"Okay. I'll go see him tomorrow. See ya professor." Cassia said heading out the door. She headed for her house, when she saw Mary waiting for her. "Hey Mary, how are you?" she asked.
"Fine. I sure am glad you saved the professor. Was it scary?" she asked smiling slightly.
"Nah, not really. Besides it was the right thing to do in the first place, and I got my starter pokemon out of it too." She said rubbing the back of her neck.
"Whoa! You got a pokemon?! What kind?" Mary asked excitedly.
"I got a Torchic, he's a fire pokemon." she replied.
"I'll see ya later okay Mary? Its been a long day. Bye." Cassia said walking into her house.
"How are you doing, Cassia? You look tired, I think you should rest a bit. Sleep well, honey." Della said. Cassia slowly made her way upstairs and into her room.
"Whew...what a day, I'm beat." she said sitting down on her bed. She took her shoes off, placed them beside her bed and crawled under the covers. "Go! Torchic!" she said opening his pokeball.
"Torchic-tor" he said as he appeared before her.
"Come on, Torchic time for bed." She said placing his ball on her nightstand and tucking herself into bed.
"Tor-tor" he said settling himself in for the night.
"Good night Torchic." she mumbled softly as she drifted off to sleep.
"Torchic" he said nuzzling her head, then he too fell fast asleep.
