Kris hadÊÊfinally found a spot in the house she liked, although technically it wasn't in the house. Curled up on the front porch swing she felt content for the first time in six months. It felt like a lifetime. Kris thought back to when her world was turned upside down...Kris didn't know how long she had been caged in her room. She only knew she couldn't face the outside world again. There was a knock on the door."Kris, I've brought a snack" Claire proposed. "I'm not hungry" Kris replied. There was a pause before Claire answered. "Alright honey" the woman acknowledged before heading back downstairs. Setting the plate aside in the kitchen Claire went to the living room and sat on the couch in pensive thought. A noise brought her out of the reverie. "Still the same?" Lance questioned, stepping into the room. "Yeah" Claire said with a sigh. "I'll talk to her. This can't go on forever" Lance announced, heading for the stairs. "Mom, is Kris gonna be okay?" piped up Drake, concern showing on his face. "She'll be just fine sweetheart" Claire assured her son. Without knocking Lance entered his daughter's room. "Honey..." he began but words failed him as the little figure rushed at her dad and clasped her arms around him. Lance hugged Kris back and as he did so he could tell she was crying. Picking his little girl up he whispered "You think this changes anything?" he asked her. "But.." Kris started. "You're part of our family. Nothing could ever change that" stated Lance, smiling down at the form in his arms.Kris! Where are you?" a voice called, shaking Kris out of her memory. A women stepped out of the front door and saw Kris sitting on the swing. Unlike her sister, Claire, Cleo had dark hair and preferred to keep it short. "There you are. I was worried" Cleo said. "Sorry. I was just looking around" answered Kris. Kris was moving in with her aunt because her mom thought it would be safer. It was a small town pretty far off the radar. Kris didn't like it one bit. Sitting down next to her niece Cleo tried to make her feel at home. "Pallet Town sure is pretty, huh?" inquired Cleo, looking out over the landscape. Kris remained silent. A while later, up in her room, Kris slipped back into her thoughts...Kris struggled to open her eyes. They felt like they were made of lead. Finally she opened them. It took a moment to register where she was. It was a hospital. Claire jolted out of a nap she had been taking in the bedside chair. "You're awake! Thank God!" Claire cried. Kris didn't understand. The last thing she remembered was riding in the car with her dad. "Mom, what happened?" the little girl inquired. "Well sweetie, there was an accident" Claire explained. "Dad?" Kris questioned. Claire shook her head and the child's world was crushed for the second time in three months.couldn't take it anymore, she had to get outside. Bolting down the staircase she ran out to the backyard. To let off some steam she shot out some beams of energy. Kris had started practicing with her new power not long after it awakened. She was going to use it to fight Giovanni. Footsteps sounded the approach of Cleo. "You okay, hon?" she asked. " I miss Dad" she answered. Cleo smiled weakly as she sat down in a patio chair. "Come here" she beckoned. Kris went over and sat down on her aunts lap. "You're not the only one who misses him" Cleo stated. "I know" Kris replied. "Listen, I know something that will cheer you up" the woman hinted. "What?" wondered the girl on her lap. "We're going over to the neighbors for dinner. She has a son about your age. Who knows, maybe you two could become friends?" Cleo wondered aloud. Not likely thought KrisConverting /tmp/php6rW2Pd to /dev/stdout
