Kris was five again, running after a figure. Shadows covered his face so she couldn't see him properly but she knew who it was. "Daddy!" the girl cried out, hoping he would stop. He just kept on running. "Daddy!" Kris called again. The figure stopped. He turned to face her. She ran up to the figure, smiling, then froze. Giovanni's face emerged from the shadows. "No!" Kris screamed.a jolt, ten year old Kris awoke from her nightmare. Again? Why do I keep having that dream? she thought. Rubbing the sleep from her eyes she turned to look at the picture on her nightstand. It was Kris' favorite picture. It was taken on the day her brother, Drake, stated his journey. Lance and Claire were standing behind their children, arms around them. "Good morning, Dad" Kris said, smiling at the picture.on the stairs announced the arrival of her niece. Cleo turned and smiled at the figure coming through the doorway. "Five more minutes and I was gonna send a squad after you" she joked. Kris rolled her eyes. "Good morning to you, too" the girl replied. "Something wrong?" asked the aunt. "No. Well, I guess..." Kris started. "Nervous?" inquired Cleo. Kris nodded. "Just one week away" Cleo declared. "Yeah" Kris answered. Both of them had the same ruminating look on their face.front door opened and shut. There were few people who entered without knocking. Listening to the footsteps coming down the hall, Kris smiled. She knew who it was. A boy appeared in the doorway. His unruly black hair sticking out in all directions and his brown eyes sparkling with excitement. "Morning!" Ash exclaimed. "If I had a nickel for every time I heard you say that..." Cleo commented. All three of them laughed.excited?" Ash asked a little while later. He and Kris were lying in the grass, looking up at the sky. "You bet" responded Kris. "It's gonna be great" the boy declared. "And what are you two up to?" a voice interrupted. Kris looked up into the face of a boy with wavy brown hair and brown eyes. "Hey Gary" she said. Kris couldn't help but notice Ash was scowling.I was getting worried" Cleo said from the porch swing as Kris came home. Her niece sat down next to her. Cleo finally broke the silence. "You're gonna have to tell Ash sometime" the woman stated. "No. I don't" the girl countered. Silence rang out again. "I still think.." Cleo started. "No" Kris repeated. "You leave and he'll be there ready for you" declared Cleo. "I'm not giving Giovanni the satisfaction. I want to see the world, not be trapped like a rat in a cage" argued Kris. Cleo gave in.
