CHAPTER 20: TEARS FROM HEAVEN
==========================================================
It was a peaceful morning in Pallet Town. The Pidgeys sang in the trees, the Rattatas were minding their own business, a few Nidorans were searching for food at a slow pace, unafraid...
But for the humans, two events troubled the peace. The adults had been shocked to learn that a great disaster had befell the town as the Defect Center had been burnt down, all of the personnel dead and the Defects inside killed as well.
But what had shocked everyone was that the fire had not been natural... it had been a criminal one... and the one who had caused this had left a signature... a terrible signature.
The symbol of Dark Vortex... whoever caused this fire had claimed all of those lives in the name of the unholy organization that had terrorized the world years ago... and a nameless fear shrouded the hearts of the humans...
Maybe Pallet Town wasn't so peaceful after all...
On the other side of the town, there was none of this fear, nothing of this sense of dread. Children, teenagers, and adults alike gathered at the entrance of the famous Oak Laboratory where Professor Maple awaited, ready to give out trainer licenses and starter Pokemon to the new trainers.
After all the centuries, the process remained the same. The humans entered the laboratory and were presented three Pokeballs, each one containing a Pokemon of a different element.
How I knew of it all? Well, everyone knows of it, humans and Pokemon along. Derlank told me about it and so did Reddy. A ritual for humans... the beginning of the journey... a journey of slavery.
Why did they begin the journey? I was told that some did it because of fame, others wished for money, others wished to prove themselves... but few suspected that cruelty might become their number one ally in this journey. To crush the will of Pokemon, to turn them into effective tools, they use those tools to win badges or ribbons... a vicious circle.
I had traveled through the gardens of the small houses, from one garden to another, avoiding the main street where the Pokemon trainers dwelled. I tried to remain hidden... I followed the trails through the bushes left by the Rattatas and Nidorans... but a bright yellow and blue mouse isn't something you can miss easily.
Still... most humans are docile and gentle. They stand there, smiling, merely looking at you. Some might even offer food. Some try to pet you or some cruel or children that don't understand that we can feel pain try to pull on our ears or kick us. Still, common humans are so radically different from Pokemon trainers, I can barely believe it.
I understand why wild Pokemon imagine Pokemon trainers to be kind... they imagine them to be as kind and caring as those quiet, peaceful men and women who simply sit down on chairs, on their garden, looking at nature and not harming it, sometimes taking care of the plants...
What causes humans to become so aggressive and ruthless when they become Pokemon trainers? I do not know... Derlank didn't know... Mewlt didn't know... Reddy didn't know... who does?
I got on my stomach and crawled under the final fence... I can see it... the hill... and that strange, gigantic white building with that windmill machine... the place so many Pokemon fear... the Prison... the Lab... the famous Pokemon Laboratory of Pallet Town.
The fence that blocks my path is made of stone and bricks. It is so tall... I'm sure even a human wouldn't be able to get over it. I also notice how the ground under me is now grey. No way to dig under the fence... and those bricks are in a perfect state. No way I can climb that wall. I'll have to sneak by the entrance... except that I can see tons of humans there... humans that will soon become Pokemon trainers.
... why am I afraid? None of them have Pokeballs yet, isn't it? I have nothing to fear from them! Go girl, go!
I raced by the side of the wall... and soon, I was in the middle of the main street... and I made it in front of the crowd...
The humans... many of them stopped speaking and turned to face me. I don't know about you but... I felt kinda... shy... all those pairs of eyes on me...
"Hey! Look! A wild Pokemon!" yelled a young male human.
"Huh? A Minun? Here?" that was an adult female.
"Pokemon! If only I had a Pokeball..." that was a male teenager...
"So cute! Come with me! I'll catch you once I get Pokeballs and treat you well!" a female human...
The voices... more and more... and soon, I could no longer make out details. Many were surprised, many were pleased, many were full of regret because they couldn't catch me...
I... I can feel... the fear rising... Being in a Pokeball... feeling your entire body twisting and folding into energy... the forced coma of Pokeballs... I never want to feel it ever again... and as I stare at them... the fear of the Pokeball overwhelm my tiny heart...
Thump thump... thump thump... thump thump...
My heart... is beating so quickly and loudly... I'm going to faint...
The crowd... is so menacing... I have the feeling like they are all going to lash out and tear me apart, wanting to keep me for themselves, like greedy zombies ripping apart a small abandoned Mudkip, so obsessed with the idea of getting a single soul for themselves to notice that they're destroying it...
But... but I know they won't harm me... isn't it? They won't, isn't it? ISN'T IT?!?
My... my heart...
THUMP THUMP THUMP THUMP! THUMP THUMP THUMP THUMP!
Re... relax... Step forward... face your fear... sneak under the gate... enter the laboratory... decipher the human language like Derlank taught you to... learn Mewlt's location... save him...
As I move into the middle of the crowd, I can feel their stare... they became quiet again... and they're watching... like a pack of Spearows staring at a defenseless Caterpie crawling before them... a flock of predator birds ready to throw themselves upon their prey, the small worm Pokemon that crawl before them...
Not one of them move even an inch or make the slightest noise. The noise of my paws on the asphalt seemingly echoes through the air... the light of the sun burns brightly, the humans standing like a forest of giant shadows, their malevolent eyes fixed on their victim...
I'm... I'm covered with sweat... tears come to my eyes... I feel... so faint... so defenseless... so tiny... a mere wild Pokemon surrounded by the almighty dominant specie of this world... Even without their Pokeballs, even without their strange death-dealing sticks they call "guns", even without any powers of their own... humans can be so terrifying. Powerless they may be... they remain the ultimate predators. There is no continent safe. No mountain too high. No island too far. Even the deepest watery abyss... even the highest clouds... even the very depths of space... humans conquer all.
Even the Legendary Pokemon... even our creators and masters... they have bow down before the humans... before the creations that have surpassed their creators. They have thrown away their power for an incredible longevity and for a power surpassing that of even the mightiest Dragonite...
Yet... they are predators. They bring fear, despair, and sorrow. Destruction is in their wake...
Despite their civilization, humans still remain as primitive predators that oppress the weak and rule with raw strength. Instead of establishing a harmony with Pokemon, they crush their wills and forge them into tools, like a Pokeball or a potion. In fact... Pokemon are even stored via PC, like simple potions or Pokeballs. They store life along with their tools, both sharing the same fate. Life is used like tools by them in meaningless competitions to determine who is the human who can yell his orders the loudest...
The door to the laboratory's domain. Just a few minutes ago, it was beautiful and stylish but now... it was a dark fence of twisted metal coursed with unholy power and energy. The Pokeball symbol on the gate looks like an eye that stares deep into your soul and instill into you the burning desire to enslave and crush all free will within Pokemon... the symbol of the humans' superiority and cruelty... a self-induced cruelty that hurts them, turning gentle and docile creatures into heartless monsters.
I... I bowed down before the gate... I lied on my stomach...
Oh... Oh great Mew... I'm so scared... scared stiff...
Please Mew... I know that I have never prayed to you much before... that your power course my veins and that I was stupid enough never to notice it but... please... please great Mew... give me the strength and courage to get under this symbol of terror... to overcome my own fears...
I... I... I felt the tears... the tears are streaming down my face... Mewlt... Derlank... Reddy... even that heartless, betraying Plusle and that weird Machoke... anybody... I'm scared... help... please help me...
I... must... take ahold of myself...
I... I see the opening... in the middle of the gate... just in front of me... at ground level... below the symbol...
I... I crawled under that horrific gate... I felt like diving into the depths of Dark Vortex... like a damned soul jumping into the inferno of the Ocean of Lost Souls... For each inch I edged forward, under that metal fence, I felt like if the fence was going to crumble down and slice me in two, the entire Pokemon League transforming into a beast of steel incarnated into this gate, crushing the foolish Pokemon who opposed it...
Three inches... two inches... I... I think that I'm going to fa... faint...
one... inc... inch...
...
I... I slowly got up... and I looked back...
The door... did not crumble down. The future trainers did not rip me apart... I am intact...
I... am intact? I AM INTACT! I AM INTACT!
OOOOH! I'm like, so happy! I feel I could kiss the ground right here and now! In fact, that's what I'll do!
... yuck! The asphalt... yuck!
Whatever! I'M IN ONE PIECE! I'M ALIVE!!!... well, DUH! Of course, I'm alive! What did I expect? I'm an Undead, I can't die!
But still... I was like, so scared.
I don't know if the power within me has a mind of it's own and heard my prayers but if it does... then Mew... thank you... THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!
Ooooh...
Those humans! They're standing in front of the gate, cursing and screaming like the furless monkeys they are. Screaming in their human language, screaming at me who was not caught.
Well... IN YOUR FACE!
I jumped just in front of the gate and then, proceeded to show them my behind and smacked it, taunting them. PRRRRRRLT! You will not catch me, suckers! Hahaha! It feels soooo good! I'm free and there's nothing you monkeys can do about it! Hehehe!
My taunts made them even more enraged and my pleasure is growing so high... I have rarely felt so pleased. Rarely has freedom felt this good! In the middle of one of the Pokemon League's most sacred sanctuaries, FREE!
Hahaha! Haha... errr... well...
I have to find clues about Mewlt's whereabouts... and thus, I must get inside of that Laboratory!
I turned back to the Laboratory, leaving the future trainers and their screams behind. The road is long, uphill... it will be long and tiring. The lab is just atop the hill, at the end of the path. I looked at the lab... and suddenly, my eyes widened as I seen someone getting out!
OH NO! It's one of those scientists! Unlike the future Pokemon trainers, I bet this human must have Pokeballs on him or her! I have to hide! I have to run! I have to...
... wait a minute here! Without Pokemon of his or her own, that person can't catch me! I will shock that fool before it can get a shot at me! Yes, I'll definitely do this! I smiled... no reason to be scared...
I shall proudly move forward, toward the lab and reach the humans' computers or whatever they call those machines where they store data.
As I walked on the path... I was surprised to find out that it wasn't that bad. The scientist, an adult male in his thirties I would say, stared at me, weirded out, as I passed by... but strangely enough, he said nothing and did not attempted any harm upon me... I wonder why...
The front door of the lab was locked, of course... and back there, the scientist started to open the gate... so I had to find another way in.
I had thought that maybe one or more windows would be open... and well, it seemed like one of those windows was opened. The one on the right of the door, to be more exact... and most conveniently, there was a nice bush to climb. Destiny was sure kind on me, for once.
I jumped through the bush... a blur of green... then a blur of white as I jumped into the unknown of the human building.
White and blue... everything is of white and blue metal... and the cold feeling of metal on my paws... I can feel the metal...
The place is lighted up so brightly and yet... that table... that metallic table reminds me of the lab's table back in the Defect center...
I...
EEEEEEEEEEEK!!!
ACK! WHAT WAS THAT?!?
Such... horrific visions... for a second, blades and drills appeared over the table... and I seen the lifeless faces of countless souls, their bodies ripped apart by figures wearing white...
... experiments... and it's victims.
New Pokemon-related tools and medicines had to be tested somehow... and sometimes if not often, the experiments went wrong and proved fatal...
Then, there were the experiments to discover about Pokemon's anatomy... to discover their maximum tolerance to pain, toxins, heat, cold... experiments that were guaranteed fatal, performed on Pokemon that no longer could perform in battle or on children Pokemon had that humans didn't wanted them to have...
Then... this opened door... there is a room beyond it. The humans are not here. I cannot hear them... I cannot smell their presence... and my eyes told me they weren't there as well... so I stepped through that door, into the room labeled "storage room".
Dozens upon dozens of shelves... all containing thousands and thousands of Pokemon... I can sense the pulses within... the lives...
This is not a storage room... it is a prison... a prison for countless souls... So many souls... despair all over the place... most of them gave up forever on freedom and many already lost their souls, becoming little more than tools... none of them ever allowed to come out except for experiments and feeding...
I stepped back into the laboratory... and finally, my eyes caught sight of it. A squarish box with a glowing surface... a screen and below it, a keyboard as the humans call them! What I was looking for!
The humans are still not here... but that scientist who went to get the new trainers won't remain outside forever. I must act quickly!
The chair... I jumped on top of it and stared at the keys. I thank you Derlank... thanks to you, I know what those weird symbols means... and as I deciphered the letters, I looked upward to the screen.
There is text on the screen... what kind of text?
"E-mail to Professor Maple from Plateau Indigo.
Dear Professor Maple.
We have received word that the Defect Center was attacked by a strange man and a group of Shadow Pokemon. According to the description that the few survivors gave to the police, we were able to confirm your theories.
It seemed that you were right. The way wild Pokemon has acted lately as well as Mew's recent death might be linked to a possible return of Ice Mask and his Dark Vortex hordes.
Your request to keep Mew's body in a statis cell for conservation rather than dissecting and cremating it has been granted. You may conserve the dead Legendary Pokemon's body for further studies.
Due to the recent attacks, we have decided to send some of our most elite Pokemon trainers to ensure your protection.
It is essential, especially with Ice Mask's return and Mewtwo's recent escape.
Also, we regret to announce that the Elite Four of each region was unsuccessful in convincing the owners of the Legendary Pokemon to release them, just as you instructed. They ignored the fact that the continued use of Legendary Pokemon might intensify the natural disasters that are currently wrecking the entire planet and upsetting the very balance of Nature.
We are doing our very best to choose a new Champion ; Selven's actions have been deemed by the Elite Four to be irresponsible and to endanger the entire planet... but without anyone to replace him, we are forced to keep him as our world Champion.
P.S. On a personal note, Lydia Maple, I strongly suggest that you leave Pallet Town. It just isn't safe anymore. If Ice Mask is truly back, the Pallet Town Laboratory will be most likely his next target.
Good bye, Lydia. Take care."
As I finished reading the e-mail, I felt my blood freezing...
Ice Mask... I saw him... and the humans knows it too. He is back...
The Legendary Pokemon... what's going on? The humans... they speak of natural disasters... yet, none befell Kanto yet. They spoke of the situation as if it was urgent... as if something bad was going to happen... and then... Professor Maple... she is the scientist living here? She attempted to help the Legendary Pokemon but failed?
This is getting more and more serious. That undead Jirachi... Ice Mask... the Elite Four... Mew's power inside of me... what's going on?!?
crrr...
A SOUND! A SOUND! The humans! They're entering the room! That e-mail, it sounds important! They must not know I have read it! I searched for the key on the keyboard... quick quick quick!
crrrrr...
QUICK QUICK QUICK!!! They're... THEY'RE COMING! I'm... shaking... HA! There it is!
"e-mail deleted" was displayed on screen.
Phew... now, let's get out of this cursed hole!
I jumped off the chair just as I heard the door fully opening and the scientist entering. Behind him, hordes of humans follow...
"Hi and welcome to our lab!" he announced.
"Hey! It's that Minun again!" OH NO! I HAVE BEEN SPOTTED!
I must run! I... I jumped through the window as quickly as I could and ran... and ran... and ran... and ran...
Wheeze... wheeze... so tired... so scared...
The ground... it's mud... mud? Wait a minute! It's so dark... no light... can't see... I can smell water... what happened?!?
I turned to the sky... and I seen dark, ominous clouds covering the sky as far as my eyes could see... the sky was covered in darkness as a constant deluge rained down, turned the earth to mud, flooding the entire place... I could feel the water... up to my ankles...
Beyond the brick walls, a human is listening to his radio on the street. I can hear the radio...
"Kyogre used Hydro Canon! OUCH! Critical hit! Wailord is KO!" screamed the human-made machine...
Kyogre... It is true... the Legendary Pokemon's powers... are abused by the humans...
Is this... a disaster? One of those natural disasters? Is the weather changing like that?
"The challenger released Moltres again! Legendary Pokemon against Legendary Pokemon! This will be good!" screamed the radio.
Time passed... a few minutes... something like that... I really didn't know except for the rain... and for the sounds of the radio...
Then... there was another radio... someone is listening to a different channel...
"We just received news from Goldenrod City! Fire is spreading all over the city and the nearby forests! It's a desesperate fight to keep the fire under control! We have the leader of the fire brigade on our line! Any comments?
"That... that fire! It's unnatural! It popped out of nowhere and it's so intense! Too intense to be natural! We can barely keep it under control!"
FWOOOOSH!!!
"WHAT WAS THAT?!? OH NO! I must get going! The fire has intensified!"" yelled the human through the machine...
"OUCH! Moltres has received a Surf attack in the face! It's burning with anger! The entire arena is filling with fire! The battle is heating up!" yelled the other radio, detailing the fight...
... each time a Legendary Pokemon is used... a natural disaster occurred...
Those fires... this deluge... it's all the work of the power the humans abuse... a power they should have never obtained...
The air... is too hot... and the deluge is intensifying...
... is the world... ending?
.. huh? What's that? A star, in the sky, in the middle of the day?
... no, I must have seen it wrong. That was just an illusion... the clouds block the entire sky...
I'm soaking wet. I have to get out of here... I turned to the metallic door and ran for it. The mud... slowed me down... and I didn't know where Mewlt was...
... I will have to return somewhere later. I must find out what happened to Mewlt.
... and they said Mewtwo disappeared? What's the deal with that? The metallic door... I stood before it...
CREEEEEEEK...
The door... opened?
I turned up and... no... no... NO!!! NO NO NO! NOT YOU! NOT YOU! NOT NOW! PLEASE!
The masked man... ICE MASK! He's here! HE'S HERE!!! I... I stepped backward, shaking...
I... It is him... yet... the initial shock is gone and now... it's weird... Ice Mask's Dark Power... I cannot sense it... well, I CAN feel it... but it's... it's vile or corrupted or twisted. It's... like Mewlt's Darkness was...
"You're searching for Mewlt, aren't you?" asked the masked man.
His voice... it's not Ice Mask's. It's deeper and should be scarier and yet... the fury in it is replaced by sorrow... and the tone... is similar to Mewtwo's... to what I had heard of his voice in the visions.
"I am both Mewtwo and Ice Mask..." stated the masked man.
Huh? Both Ice Mask and Mewtwo? How... how can this be?!?
"There is no time to explain. Destiny must be breached soon! Come, Cherlie!" he turned around, expecting me to follow him... but what kind of idiot do he thinks I am if he thinks I will follow him after he told me that he was Ice Mask?
I crossed my arms and stood still, determined not to follow him. He turned around... huh?!? My ears rose in surprise as I seen who I believed to be Mewlt. Mewlt? Is that you? He took off his mask and I seen the purple eyes... and... no... My Mewlt has pink fur and his ears aren't as pointy. Which means that...
"I truly am Mewtwo, Mewlt's father." wait a minute here! You are... Mewlt's father?
"I do not remember everything yet... but I know that I am his father and that he is under the control of the same rage that controlled me years ago... the rage that caused Ice Mask to appear." what? WHAT? I... I just don't know what to think...
HUH?!? I felt a psychic force lifting me off the ground...
"We cannot speak here, in the open! We must hide!" wait a second here! Wait just a...
FLASH!
Ugh... I felt the pull... a force grabbing me and throwing me with great force... and I felt... like breaking through a wall... and yet, it didn't hurt...
... what happened here?
FLASH!
"Teleportation." explained Mewtwo.
Where am I? This place...
"This is nowhere. Just the outskirts of the town..." explained the one who claimed to be Mewlt's father...
As I stared at him... I remembered the vision... He was the one who separated Mew's soul and gave me her love... the one who made me an Undead...
He... he is the one... who made me an Undead... the one who gave me this cursed existence.
I should hate him... I should hate him for making into a monster that feeds on the brains of innocent people... for making me into something that isn't even alive... and yet... I can't hate him.
... and... and he said earlier that he was Mewlt's father... but this can't be, right? Mewlt couldn't be the son of that Mewtwo... he's just... just... I remember the vision... they called him the Legendary Pokemon of Darkness... and then... there's...
I... I stare into his purple eyes... and I see so much sorrow... I see suffering... I see... I... I feel like his eyes are empty... like they are nothing but a mirror... a mirror of the pain of thousands of souls...
I... I feel so weird... It feels... awkward... Why do I feel like this?
"So... you have read the e-mail as well, isn't it?" asked the caped creature... asked Mewtwo.
"Ye... yes... I did..." I answered, unable to think of anything else but... but of him... why? Why can't I think of anything but of him?... of his sorrow? The idea of him suffering... hurts, for some reason...
Such raw negative feelings... Mewlt couldn't be born out of pure Darkness...
"I may be the Legendary Pokemon of Darkness... but I don't know anything. All that I remember is my name, my title, and that my power is not evil. I also remember about having a mate... about this mate dying... about Mew being dead." wait a minute here... Mewtwo said that he was Mew's mate?
Heh! This couldn't be! Mew would never... WAIT A MINUTE HERE! Mew... is dead? Oh... so very funny... sooo very funny...
Mew is, like, a Legendary Pokemon! They're like, immortals! Millions and millions of months and they're still as young as ever! You can also keep on smacking them and they will just keep on getting up... isn't it?
... Jirachi... he was Undead and... I managed to destroy him... Now that I think about it... Jirachi's death was not supposed to be possible, isn't it? He was a Legendary Pokemon and all... and yet, in the end, I and Mewlt overcame him... we ripped his body apart and he vanished, dead.
If Jirachi could die... does it means that Mew could...
... can she really... can... can it happen? Jirachi was undead... it must have been nothing... yet... the vision haunts me... Mewtwo turning Mew's head backward, breaking her body, grabbing her soul, separating it into two, and finally, reviving her...
Mew in that vision... had died so easily... and then, it had been easy to repair her body...
Almost... like a mortal...
I looked into Mewtwo's eyes... doubt torturing me... "How... how did Mew die?" I asked.
Mewtwo became uneasy. He looked down at his feet, closing his eyes... "I... I don't know. I don't even know what happened to her... I just... don't know. All that I know is that... that she is dead..."
I seen him tremble... I seen him open his eyes... his eyes were wide open, the pupil decreasing to the size of a mere slit... I seen it... his huge, purple tail swinging back and forth... and I think I could hear a low sound... like a whimper or something...
"I... I can't even... remember her end... I wasn't there for her... I wasn't... there..." as I stared at him, I suddenly felt my heart breaking... he was so huge... I should be scared of him and yet... I feel mercy for him. He doesn't look like the Legendary Pokemon of Darkness... but more like a broken male... a male who has lost his loved ones and suffer from it... He is like me... like any creature... happiness... love... pain... fear... hope... despair... he feels all of them... like every other creature...
The Legendary Pokemon are like us... They feel like us... They are so alike... we were truly created after them... right down to our good points and flaws.
As I stare at him... as I see him starting to cry... as I see his hands cover his face and the tears stream down... I finally forgot what was his title and believed that he was Mewlt's father... I can feel his sorrow and his fear... his heart... I have the feeling that he is sincere... and there is something in him... so similar to Mewlt... his body is the same size... his face has traits of his son... and those hands... so alike and yet, so different...
I long... for your sorrow to disappear... for us to be reunited with your son... for your scars left by Mew's death to be healed...
I slowly approached the male as he collapsed on his knees, putting all of his heart into those cries... I climbed on his cloak and placed myself on his shoulder and placed my right hand on the top of his head... His fur... or skin... feels like Mewlt's... the warmth... the strange aura... it feels... familiar...
He stopped... and turned to me... "Mew... is still alive... She left her love within this world... and she left you with a son... a son who awaits us..." I smiled as I stared at him... and I saw that the tears stopped coming... he wasn't trembling as much now...
He slowly looked down at his hands... "I... I remember one thing... Mew... Mew would have wanted me to be strong... to live on... to correct the balance and free the world from the cruelty of Destiny..." he said to himself...
Slowly, I climbed off his cloak as he stood up and turned to the skies... to the rain... the sky... the heavens...
"The Silver Valley... the Heavens... they cry for the loss of the hope of this world... for the triumph of a cruel Destiny who has robbed this world from their Light and plunged it's Darkness into disgrace. In the deepest Darkness... where there is no Light... Darkness shall prevail. Darkness has always been a destructive element... a purifying element... I shall use my powers to remove from this world this cruel Destiny. I will not allow it to claim the hope of this world. I shall save my son and shatter this force... even if I have to fight back to my last breath!" he announced to the sky, to whoever up there was controlling Fate. Was Ho-oh there, listening? Was he on our side?... or against us?
It is of no importance. Mewlt... we must find Mewlt...
I turned to the Legendary Pokemon of Darkness... "Where is your son? I could not find clues..." I asked.
He simply stood there... and slowly, closed his eyes as his aura became visible... for a second, I thought that the whole world had twisted... I could see strange flames coming and out of his body... thousands of feelings and energies...
Then, the vision was gone and he opened his eyes. His eyes flashed blue as he opened them, as if he had used his powers and felt a vision... "The Ice Mask... we must find the Ice Mask." he stated.
The Ice Mask... Ice Mask! He must have captured Mewlt! That must be it! I turned to him, determination in my heart. "Ice Mask! We must save Mewlt before Ice Mask harm him!" I said.
"No... Ice Mask won't harm my son..." replied Mewtwo, his voice somewhat distant... Ice Mask won't harm Mewlt? Why? "Only a being of absolute Darkness can wear the Ice Mask... and only a being with my blood could possibly fall into such complete Darkness..." wait a minute here! Does that means that...
Mewtwo... the mask... so... he was right. He truly is Ice Mask... or rather, one of the two. How it is possible for two masks to exist is beyond my understanding... and yet, two masks exist. He placed the mask back on his face... and then, I felt a surge... a surge of vile, twisted fury and rage.
"There can be only one Ice Mask... and I shall not allow my son to carry the burden! I shall not let him be swallowed by hatred! Only I shall carry the responsibilities of the cursed Ice Mask!... and I know exactly where he is!" his voice... had became infused with such fury... I stepped backward, not knowing how it was possible for his voice to suddenly change like that... and as he finished speaking, he pointed to the east... to the center of the Kanto continent... toward Saffron City.
"This is where we are going." he stated.
"I fear that it is to Plateau Indigo that you're going, rather." HUH?!? This voice...
We both turned to face... OH YOU!!! The Champion! The one who enslaved Mew and kept me and Mewlt locked up! This monster that dumped me into that river! Oh you...
He stood there, before us, grinning evilly... I could see his eyes glowing with selfish desires... with greed...
"So Mewtwo... it seems that you're back to your old self, isn't it? Well... with Julius's disappearance it means that you're now a wild Pokemon... and as such, is free for me to catch!" he announced, taking out one of those Pokeballs.
Mewtwo simply crossed his arms, his eyes glowing behind the mask... "Selven Ketchum... I remember your ancestor, Ash Ketchum. Your bloodline proved to be a powerful and worthy opponent... but your existence is an insult to the bloodline. Where is your pride, your respect? You are nothing more but a greedy, raging monster..." the human's face distorted with rage as Mewtwo insulted him.
"HMPH! It is the fate of humans to catch all Pokemon! This world is ours! You are nothing but a living weapon created by humanity for the sole purpose of serving humans! What do you know, stupid animal?!?" his face normally so calm and collected was now so horrific... I thought it had became a mask so much scarier than Mewtwo's...
Mewtwo raised an eyebrow under his mask, a sly grin appearing... I could sense it... "Maybe... but I'm not the one who treats his own daughter like a tool for making it to the top and that then defiles the Legendary Pokemon of Light, using her as a mere tool."
"ENOUGH! MEW! COME OUT!" screamed the human, throwing the Pokeball.
CLAC!
FWOOOOOOOSH!!!
Before us appeared...
"Meeew..." meowed Mew...
Mewtwo flinched... his eyes widened and he begun to tremble... before him, a kitty about my size, floating in the air using her psychic powers... I recognized her... The blue eyes... the curves... the tail... the feet... it was Mew... and yet... there's something about her...
"Well well well... it seems the notes we found in Julius's lab were true after all, judging from your reaction... Half-Mew truly is the bastard child that you had with Mew!" the Champion's rage disappeared, sadistic pleasure filling his voice seeing Mewtwo's distress...
I stood there, staring at Mew... How... how this could be? How can Mew be here when... when she is supposed to be dead? What's going on?!?
I... I seen Mewtwo step forward, hand stretched forward... "Me... Mew? Is... is that you?" his voice... was faint... a whisper... a whisper filled with shock and confusion...
Mew... didn't answer. She floated there, saying nothing... It's so creepy... There is life in those eyes and yet... no answer...
"Mew... SLASH!" yelled the Champion pointing at Mewtwo.
Then... everything went in slow motion... Mew's sudden movement... Mewtwo flinching, his eyes widening behind the mask... Then... Mewtwo calling to her... like begging her...
"You... you won't dare to... to hurt me... won't you? Don't... don't you remember?" he called...
SLAAAAASH!!!
There was a blinding flash of light and pieces of black tissues flied about, red liquid... it was so unreal... there was this disgusting sound of flesh as well... flesh being ripped apart... and then there was the scream... the scream of raw physical pain...
Tears flied out of Mewtwo's eyes as he fell backward, grasping his chest, screaming in pain as Mew struck him...
BAM!
Mewtwo... he lied there, crying... He had no courage left... he just lied there, whispering to himself...
I stood forward and looked at Mew... her claws were covered in blood and she smiled in such an innocent way... She looked at her claws and then, slowly, licked them... tasting the blood. She was surprised by the taste at first and meowed happily, in surprise... and then, she begun to lick it even more until her claws were all clean from the blood...
The Champion just stood there, grinning... How... how could Mew obey him? How could a Pokemon obey a human like this one? Don't that human know ANY mercy? Using a loved one to hurt another loved one... such cruelty! I won't stand for this! I just won't! I JUST WON'T ACCEPT THIS!
"MIIIINUUUUUUUN!!!" I screamed at the top of my lungs, unleashing ALL of my electricity! I do not care if I discharge myself completely and fall down, my body exhausted! I will not allow this treachery to be carried on! Champion... YOU ARE GOING DOWN!
"Mew! Light Screen!" was the Champion's answer... and Mew was surrounded in a blue aura...
BAM!
The large beams of electricity struck a blue mirror created from Mew's powers and were sent into the sky...
The rain continued on... I was standing there... in the mud... and my attack had failed. I had put so much power in this attack... all in vain. I felt so faint... so tired... and Mewtwo... he was just too broken emotionally to move...
Are... are we going back to slavery? Are we going to... to be trapped again?
NO! I REFUSE! I'd rather die than go back into a Pokeball! I do not want the Legendary Pokemon's powers to be abused by humans like this anymore! I REFUSE FOR THIS TO HAPPEN!!!
"MEW! MEW!" I called to her... I called to Mew.
She looked at me... She smiles in such a childish way... it's as if it was a mere game to her...
"Please! Don't let him control you! He only wants to hurt you and us!" I said... but Mew's expression did not change.
"Why are you resisting? Good Pokemon obey their trainers." WHAT?!? This... NO! Mew would never say something like this! Never! NEVER!!!
"You... you cannot be Mew..." I said, staring at her... "Mew wouldn't bow down to such an evil human!"
Mew just rolled her eyes... "Evil? He is my Pokemon trainer. If the Pokemon trainer is evil, then I must be evil too. I follow the Pokemon trainer. That is my fate." the way she said it... it disgusted me.
"Mew! Earthquake!" an order from the Champion...
Mew spun around. I knew what was going my way... and I'm not going to let it hit me!
BOOOOOM!!!
Mew slammed the tip of her tail into the ground and I seen the ground crack and then break open, a wall of rock blades forming up and going toward me quickly like a tidal wave... I closed my eyes... I was going to attempt something that was maybe impossible...
My ears twitched... the rumble is so loud... the wall is just before me... the time has come...
Mew... please... lend me your strength...
I opened my eyes and begun to run. "YAAAAAAAR!" I screamed as I followed the wave and then, placed my paws on the wall... and begun to run on it!
ACK! WHA!
BAM!
... huff... wheeze... I... I passed over the wall... I... I... I did it... I... I can't believe it...
BOOOM!!!
"MEEEEEEARG!!!"
... I... I didn't like the sound of this...
I... I turned around and...
I...
"Me... Mew? Wh... why?" his voice... is faint... and his eyes are all wide...
The earthquake was stopped. The wave struck the male psychic Pokemon directly... a powerful wall of rock spikes... and one of them got stuck in his chest... I can see it... the spikes that goes from the ground, slowly being coated in red liquid, starting from the tip, which goes through Mewtwo, the tip seen behind his back...
"Wh... why doesn't it do anything to you? Ho... how... how could you?" his voice is filled with such confusion and pain... he just stands there...
"You're a Pokemon among any other. Why should I care for a particular Pokemon?" my eyes widened as she said that. She... she couldn't... she couldn't truly be thinking this! It's just... impossible!
I stepped forward, angered. "A POKEMON AMONG ANY OTHER? For Ho-oh's sake, he's your mate! Don't you have any feelings toward him?!? Are you this brainwashed?!?"
Mew... her face deformed... confusion filled her mind... it was obvious... she meowed and turned to her trainer...
"Remove that spike! PSYCHIC!" ordered the Champion.
I could see her turn back toward her... the confusion still there... She closed her eyes and then, I turned to Mewtwo and saw the spike disappear... Mewtwo grasped his chest and stared at Mew...
Silence... tension...
"You..." Mewtwo... I saw his eyes glow and slowly, the wound closed... and I saw him, standing tall... fear vanishing... sadness cast away... confidence entering his mind...
He placed his hand on his chest and then, with a movement of the hand, all of the blood vanished. It was incredible... I had seen Recover many times in the past but... but Mewtwo... when he used it, the wounds didn't just closed... it was as if he had never been attacked in the first place. Such irony when I think about it... the incarnation of everything negative and destructive having such healing powers...
"You have Mew's body... but you do not have her soul. Mew... wouldn't want to see me kneel over to a copy... I am sure of it. I have sensed... a change. Your fur... it is white... and your soul... I cannot sense your aura..." Mewtwo... as he spoke, I begun to realize it...
This couldn't be Mew, after all. We had been fooled. Mew had pink fur and she had an aura of kindness... this Mew had no kindness.
Mew... must be really dead... no! She is not dead... she lives... she lives within me... and I will honor Mew's cause! Her kindness... I will not allow people to misuse Mew's power anymore!
"So... it is a clone." said Mewtwo in human language to the Champion, who just stood there, grinning.
"Yes... she is a clone. It was hard but I did it. You will get along well with her... clone." the last word... that evil monster has put the emphasis on the word "clone", knowing very well how Mewtwo was born...
Mewtwo stared deep into the fake Mew's eyes... I could sense his piercing gaze... "You are not forced to be a tool, to be a replacement. There is no need for you to be controlled by this human who see you as nothing more than a living weapon."
Mew's clone... she hesitated. She turned to her trainer, frowning... "Don't just stand there! USE FAINT ATTACK!!!" the Champion... Selven... he was fulminating...
"Meeeew..." the clone meowed sadly, not sure what to do...
"A clone you may be... but clones are born with the same DNA as the original... and as such, have the same base personality... which means that you were born with the ability to understand... to feel kindness... to choose the path that is right." Mewtwo's words... they echoed even without using telepathy. It was as if there was something magical to his words... you could sense that he was wise... you could sense his great intelligence... and although he didn't remembered everything... you knew that his knowledge of this world was great...
Selven... he stood there, his eyes widening. Obviously, he was panicked... and his panic filled me with happiness. It was wrong, yes... but I couldn't help but smile...
"I see that you have not tortured her... for she do not trust you." stated Mewtwo, smirking just like I was... "It is sad, truly. I do not remember exactly... but I have the feelings that your ancestors could gain the trust of Pokemon without doing them any harm... and that trainer and Pokemon fought as one, as equals and that from this, a power far greater than anything you may have, came from..."
Ash Ketchum... the legendary Pokemon trainer... the one who had faced Ice Mask so many times in the past...
Mewtwo... had fought with Ash... hard to believe that he could live for such a long time...
I believe that what Mewtwo says must be right. Ash... must have been greater than this man. His deeds are spoken of in legends by humans and Pokemon alike. We all know the names of his Pokemon... of his allies... those who have the blood of his Pokemon in their veins are regarded with respect. Humans with the family name "Ketchum" are basically considered as great as Legendary Pokemon!
What did this man, Selven, did to equal his ancestor? He enslaved Mew, tortured countless souls, care only of stupid trophies. He will be remembered as a monster and nothing more... or he will rather disappear in the myst of time, people forgetting forever about him.
This Mew... how hard was it to create her? What was the true extent of her powers? I wondered...
"ENOUGH!" HUH?!? My ears rose and my eyes widened as I was startled... but it was only that stupid human...
"Mew! I am your trainer! Now... use Ice Beam!" I turned to the Mew copy as Selven finished giving his order...
Mew stared at us... I could sense her distress... her confusion... and I hoped that she wouldn't obey... but then, she opened her mouth wide open and...
ZAAAAAAAP!!!
A gigantic spear of ice erupted from Mew's mouth and came flying straight toward me! I knew I wouldn't be able to evade this attack using regular means... so I closed my eyes... and I concentrated...
I could feel the cold... the incoming deadly spear...
Time stood still... I was there, on my four, seeing every detail off the blade of ice... I could see the drops of water from the rain on the ice blade... I could see the Mew copy and Mewtwo, their bodies covered in water, their fur soaked wet. I could see the Champion's clothes, turning darker from being exposed to rain... I seen the individual rain drops, falling one by one and the ice blade, approaching so slowly...
The ground under me is mud... mud from the water. The temperature is high... Moltres must be still fighting. I'm sweating and my fur is wet... My fur... it feels so... so heavy... I feel so heavy... I don't know if I can pull off this Quick Attack... but I have to do it... I will not let this Mew copy break my body.
I inhaled... and concentrated... I emptied my mind...
Feel the wind... become the wind... pierce through space...
I placed my ears against the sides of my head and leaned down... I gathered all of my strength into my forelegs and prepared to do it...
... NOW!!!
HMMMMPH!!!
BOOOOM!!!
ACK!
Bom!
Flchlchclchlch...
Ugh... I.... I DID IT!!!... but I slipped because of that stupid mud and now, I'm face-down in that brown, sticky substance. Looks like I'll need a bath... that or Kyogre will continue on fighting and the rain will wash it away... well, whatever.
I gathered my strength and got back on my feet. Mew is staring at me... No, a copy is. Mew's love is within me... the real Mew is within me...
drrring!
Huh? What is that?
drrrrring!
"DAMN! Not now!" yelled the Champion.
drrrring!
This repetitive sound broke the silence... or rather, brought it back. Only the rain, the ringing, the sound of my lungs filling and emptying...
drrrrring!
"Mew! Teleport us back to the town!" ordered the human.
"Meeeeew..." the Mew copy... she meowed in such a sad, distant way... it reminded me of the real Mew... and then, as she was surrounded by a blue aura, herself and Selven were engulfed in a column of light...
"Well, you're lucky this time, Mewtwo!... but we shall meet again! You WILL be mine, Mewtwo! I swear it! Before long, you shall belong to me and shall obey MY orders!" the Champion taunted one last time before Mew finished her tech.
The male psychic Pokemon smirked, crossing his arms. "Try as you will. I will never allow you, as long as there will be life in this body, to control me. I will remain free... may you like it or not." Mewtwo replied to Selven's taunt...
FLASH!!!
Two beams of blue energy flew into the sky and disappeared beyond the clouds... they were... gone...
I got back on my hind legs, standing in a human-like stance, letting the rain wash my dirty body... and also feeling the hot air. So quiet... so peaceful... the eye of the storm...
"So... where are we going again?" I said, turning to Mewtwo.
He looked down at his cloak and at his exposed chest. Mew's attack had damaged it... he seemed to hesitate... and then thrown it away, revealing his frame... It's so weird how similar Mewlt is to his father... and yet... the two are so different... and then... I feel so weird, looking at Mewlt's father... I feel... the heat...
... Moltres must have used something like Fire Blast or something...
... that or...
... ugh... I would rather not think about it. I know that Mew's love is within me but... I'm not Mew, just a vessel... and anyway... falling in love with both the father and son at the same time? Heh! That would be a funny sight!... or so I would say if I wasn't the one concerned.
What am I talking about?!? All this over a second of thoughts... all this over a little heat... bah! I should just forget it all and focus on finding Mewlt before anything happens to him...
"Saffron City... the center of the Kanto region..." he turned to the east... and so did I...
"Could you... well... you know... teleport us there?" I asked him, hoping we wouldn't have to get there by foot. I already knew that Pallet Town was far, very far from Saffron City. Either we had to go through the ocean trail, going to Cinnabar Island and then to Vermillion City... either we went to Viridian City, then to Pewter City, then to Cerulean City, and finally, the road south to Saffron City.
The ocean trail was the fastest way... but the problem was... well, you need a boat to get there... and I doubt that Pokemon could get on a boat easily...
As such, I hoped Mewtwo could teleport us there...
"Sorry... but if I do not already know the location of the place where we're going... then no teleportation must be done for if I was to teleport us into solid objects... well... it would prove fatal." bummer. He can't teleport us there...
Sigh... this will take FOREVER! Mewlt will have the time to get hurt and destroy the world thousands times before we get there! "Mewtwo... looks like we're going north then..." I stated, sighing, my ears dropping like my mood...
Mewtwo rose an eyebrow. "What? North? I have the feeling that... that south is the fastest road there..." he stated.
I rolled my eyes. Must be his faulty memory or something. "It's the OCEAN down there! Do I look like a water Pokemon to you?" I asked, crossing my arms.
"I guess... that a way to cross the ocean would be nice... The help of a human would come in handy..." he stated, frowning.
There was a silence... and slowly, the rain seemed to stop... and the temperature was lowered. It became bearable once again... I smiled, seeing the clouds go away and the sunlight slowly piercing through the veil of darkness...
Well, the mud was washed off... and as the sunlight reached my fur, it started to dry off. Everything's perfect... well, kinda. At least, I won't have to bathe or dry off my fur or something...
"We cannot just remain here and wait for something to happen. Our problem won't solve itself... let us move south. I have the feeling that I'll be able to figure out something when we get there... I'm sure of it..." well, Mewtwo has a point! We can't just stand there!
As I turned to the south and begun to walk toward our destination with Mewtwo following... or maybe was it I who was following him? Anyway... we begun our journey... and as we did... I turned to the sky...
That star... a star in the sky, in the middle of the day... I hope it doesn't mean anything... or maybe is it an illusion of my mind...
...
Mewlt... where are you? I hope... that you will be freed from the Ice Mask soon...

CHAPTER 20: TEARS FROM HEAVEN
==========================================================
