CHAPTER 21: THE PATH TO THE SEA
==========================================================

CRUNCH! munch... munch... munch...

"So... those are called apples, right?" oh dear Mew... do he EVER shut up? Even when his mouth is full, he keep on talking, using his mind!

I had heard that cat Pokemon were curious... but this is just ridiculous! Mewtwo says that he must gather information for his memories to return... but I believe that he just seek to piss me off. Really, for one who sounds so deep and intelligent... he sure has some massively childish traits!

"They are called apples, isn't it?" I ANSWERED YOUR FUCKING QUESTION TWO THOUSANDS TIMES ALREADY!

"Cherlie... we must keep moving!... and you still didn't answer my question!" I... can't... take it... anymore!

My ears are lowered, my right eye is twitching, my cheeks charge with static electricity... Legendary Pokemon or not... if he bothers me one more time... ONE MORE... I will force him to shut up via electrocution!

"Just... shut up." a faint whisper of rage escaped my lips...

munch... munch... gulp!

Mewtwo swallowed the last bites of the apple we had found on our way here. To the south of Pallet Town lies a port... and it took several days to make it there... and as such, we needed to find food on the way there... and that big cat has been asking me the names of every single plant, of every single Pokemon, of every single thingy we ran into, no matter how insignificant it was! Why is he obsessed with learning everything?!?... and the worst is that he force me to repeat! Indeed! That kitty just isn't happy bothering me about insignificant stuff, oh no! He wants CONFIRMATION! I must CONFIRM the fact that what I told him was an apple twelve times before is REALLY an apple!

"You know that I need information to recover my memories, do not deny it, Cherlie. To gather all this data will allow my brain to recover its memory functions... so bear with my questions." OH NO! I'm not buying that anymore!

I heard him sighing loudly... and then, he made the remains of the apple vanish using his powers. He stood there, crossing his arms, raising an eyebrow, towering above me... "I have read your thoughts and really... do you think that you're much better than me, miss know-it-all? Go that way! Don't touch that! This is that! This is another thing! Do not do that! Ask this question! Don't ask that question!... really, who do you think you are for ordering me around?!?"

Who am I to order him around?!? My ears rose, the static gathering, my rage building up! I pointed at him and I scolded him good! "I'm someone MUCH MORE mature than you are! What did you do ever since we left Pallet Town? HUH?!? Whining and asking useless questions! Do your eyes FUCKING works?!? Do you REALLY need me to confirm THREE HUNDREDS TIMES the fact that the sky is blue?!?"

A grin appeared over his face and he rolled his eyes anew. "Heh! The color of the sky is relative. Maybe it is SAPHIRE blue? Or maybe TURQUOISE blue?... and then, it turns orange during dawn and dusk, black during the night! Truly... there is no evidence that the sky is..."

"ENOUGH!!!" I screamed at the top of my lungs! "Can't you just SHUT UP for a second?!? You're not the Legendary Pokemon of Darkness... YOU'RE THE RETARDED LEGENDARY POKEMON OF POINTLESS QUESTIONS!!!"

Will you just shu... will... errr... I... I feel... I feel danger suddenly... I... I have this feeling... a dark veil... an intense cold... I... I feel so scared... and I could see the clouds gathering... dark, ominous clouds...

BROOOM!...

The thunder... and his burning, purple eyes...

"WHAT DID YOU CALL ME?!?" I... oh great... I... I'm... oh no... what did I do?... WHAT DID I DO?!?

BOOM!

He stepped forward... and as he did, he seemed to have nearly quadrupled in size. My ears lowered... and I felt so tiny... so insignificant... a mere bug compared to him. He was shrouded in purple flames... a pure elemental of Darkness, his eyes burning with anger...

Oh dear Mew... I... I feel like he's gonna squash me beneath his heel... I...

"APOLOGISE!" he ordered... I... I wanted to obey... but I'm too terrorized to move. My knees... they just keep on knocking against each others... and I felt so faint... I'm trembling...

"NOW!!!" he boomed, his voice echoing endlessly like a mighty roar. I yelped and fell on my knees, sweating.

"I'M SORRY I'M SORRY! PLEASE! PLEASE!!!" I begged him for mercy. Please... please...

This evil grin... grin of pure evil and malevolent intentions...

My eyes widened. He rose his right foot above my head... Oh dear Mew... I'm... I'm gonna... gonna die... He's gonna break my body... and take my soul away...

I... Mewlt... I wanna see you again... Please... please have mercy... I have Mew's love in me... Even if you despise me, can you still have mercy for her? PLEASE!!!

OH NO! HE'S LOWERING HIS FOOT! HE'S GONNA CRUSH ME! MOOOOOMMY!!!

I closed my eyes and lied down, trembling. I... I can't watch! I CAN'T BEAR IT!

Ha... ha... so... scared... sniff... aaarg...

"Hahahaha... Hahahaha... HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!"... huh? What the... WHAT THE DARK VORTEX IS GOING ON?!? He's... he's laughing, in an innocent tone?

I got back on my feet and... and seen that my body is intact... what has happened? Why is he laughing? I looked up to him and noticed how the sky was so bright, the flames gone, his eyes cold and cruel... yet filled with childish amusement, devoid of that fear-inducing hatred.

"Heh! Scaring mortals is too easy! Just a little echo and a bit of pyrotechnics and they're on their knees, begging for mercy! Truly, making fun of you is too easy!"... I... I CAN'T BELIEVE IT! YOU FUCKING JERK!!!

ZAAAAAAAAAP!!!

"MEEEEEAAAAAAAAUGH!!!" screamed Mewtwo, eyes widened, as I forced an incredible amount of electricity within his body. His fur stood straight up, his tail was strangely straight, like a purple triangle behind him rather than a tail.

HA! Fi... finished shocking him... That was tiring... but it was worth it! Oh dear Mew did it felt good!

"Meeeeeeew..." slowly meowed Mewtwo, tears in his eyes, his entire body turned black from the shock... and... and... sniff sniff... yep, he smells well-done...

BAM!

He fell down, directly on his back, paralyzed, his entire body twitching madly as leftovers from the electricity still coursed his veins.

I crossed my arms, satisfied. Serves yourself right, jerk!

...

Yeah... anyway... Mewtwo is funny, twitching on the ground like a headless Combusken who just got its head cut off recently... but we won't get anywhere if I just watch him lie down there, isn't it?

I guess I shouldn't have put so much power in that discharge. He's now paralyzed and we're in the middle of a human road. We had got away from the woods since I knew that the woods ahead were the territory of a bunch of Spearows who were famous for chucking rocks at random people and pecking at your eyes. A painful bunch... and I wanted not to waste time fight off random wild Pokemon, personally.

But the problem is... while this road is all beautiful and all... there's no berry bushes around... so there's no way I can get a Cheri berry to heal Mewtwo's newly acquired paralysis.

Most berries are just, well, berries... but nature is still amazing. Indeed... there are some berries that are natural medicines... and the Cheri berry is one of them.

Derlank taught me about those... small, red, with a very long, tube-like leaf... very soft and has an extremely spicy taste that makes your mouth burns... unless you happen to be one of those Pokemon who likes spicy stuff like Reddy...

Still, that berry is something that you want to have with you since that thing's juice absorbed electricity and helped the body empty itself of excess electricity, relaxing the nerves and nullifying the effects of paralysis. Humans use it a lot on trained Pokemon, making them carry the berries with them in case they get paralyzed so that they don't have to waste time using a paralysis-curing potion...

Well, I'm officially ashamed of myself now. That was funny while it lasted... but I now am in DEEP trouble! I hope no trainers see...

"WILD POKEMON!"

... too late. That was a human voice, I know it.

I turned to... oh my... not that... That was not a human... it was a BIG bunch of Pokemon trainers!

"Ugh... can't... move..." thank you, captain obvious! I know that you can't move, Mewtwo! No need to use your telepathy!

... can't run away... ugh... I'm so stupid... I... What was I thinking?!? I'm soooo going to get it...

"Mewtwo?!?" that voice... wait a second here! I recognize that voice!

The skirt... the gloves... the frame... Eliza! The daughter of the Champion! What is she doing here?

"What? What do you mean by "Mewtwo"?" asked one of the male trainers, turning to Eliza.

The seven Pokemon trainers were turned toward Eliza who stood there, frowning in embarrassment. But then, I saw something on her right shoulder... a small, cute ball of yellow fur with large ears... those cute, expressive eyes... a Pichu?

"Well... Mewtwo is my Pokemon. Leave him alone." said Eliza, looking down. I turned to Mewtwo and saw his eyes burn with anger... and I had the feeling that he did NOT liked being referred to as a property...

"Just stay quiet. She's a friend. Let her take care of this." I whispered to the large, paralyzed kitty. I hoped that his logic would overcome his rage...

"What guarantee do we have that she won't catch both of us and enslave us? I'll use my powers to choke them. Quick, painless, effective." he said by telepathy... wait a second... do he mean that... OH NO! You are NOT killing them.

I walked to Mewtwo and placed me between his legs. "You attempt to choke them... and I kick you where it counts, understood? So... stay calm or become TRULY genderless!"

Errr... I have the feeling that my threat didn't had much effect on him... He just, kinda ignored me or something...

Well, anyway... I wonder what's going on with Eliza... I turned to her and seen her pointing a strange Pokeball at Mewtwo. The upper half was made of pure gold, the lower half of silver... and the ball had an emblem on it... an emblem made of the letters "GS"... WAIT A MINUTE HERE! Is that... the legendary GS Ball? It... YES! It really looks like it!... so hard to believe that the most powerful Pokeball in the world is in the hand of this human...

"I own Mewtwo, as you can see! I'll bring him with me to a Pokemon Center! Now... leave me alone at once!" Eliza was losing patience... and I saw the Pichu on her shoulder charging up electricity as a way to help his master sound more convincing...

... but the other trainers were smirking, staring at Eliza. "Heh! This really looks like Mewtwo... but you know what? You aren't worthy of it! You let one of your Pokemon out at all time and you let such a rare Pokemon run away... I think you should give it to more competent trainers... like me!" said a male Pokemon trainer that was about Eliza's age.

Huh?

BAM!

OUCH!

That... was not pleasant. Mewtwo is swinging his large, powerful tail... and it knocked me down!... and I think I can hear something... a strange, repetitive sound... In fact, I rose my ears and let the sound enter my ears... yep! He's hissing! But... wait a minute here!

When cats are angry, they swing their tails and start hissing, right?... Mewtwo is a cat, also which means that...

"It's for a good cause. Calm down... calm down..." I urged him. If he dares to harm them... then things will definitely get ugly and that's the last thing I need right now!

"I'm NOT coming back into one of those stupid prisons!" he spat using telepathy. Normally, I would agree with him but...

"Look... this is an emergency. You're in no state to walk by yourself and we have this whole mob of trainers there. Believe me, it would be better if you just remained quiet for once!" I whispered to him, hoping that he wouldn't give in to his rage...

"I will not let myself be captured. There is no alternative. I shall not allow anyone to take my freedom and use me as a tool... and know that there is no physical state that will force me in such a situation that this wish might be overruled!" oh dear Mew... not that... stupid, stubborn kitty...

Huh? What is he doing? He's shaking and trembling even more! He gritted his teeth, as if in pain... he's struggling against the surge of electricity?

"Just return it to its Pokeball!" urged one of the trainers to Eliza, disgusted at Mewtwo's attempts to get back up...

The trainers all turned to Eliza, frowning... and she is frowning, as well. I can see the distress in her eyes... and the Pichu is seemingly upset.

"Such a famous person... My daddy, grand-daddy, and all those before them spent their entire lives keeping that meany from hurting people all over the world... and yet, I can't do anything but feel pity for him... Poor kitty... paralyzed on the floor before trainers when he's supposed to be such a great person... well, power-wise, at least..." I could hear the Pichu... the way he spoke... He wasn't too old... but he wasn't too young either. But what intrigued me was what he said...

His daddy and grand-daddy fought Mewtwo?... does that means that he is... my cousin? A member of the living half of the Lightheart bloodline?... does that means that he is Siryx Elect Lightheart, son of Dynamo Volt Lightheart?

Mewtwo stopped struggling... he turned to face the Pichu... and his rage disappeared. He stood there, his expression unlike anything I had seen before... I... I could not specify what kind of expression it was... it was just... so... so strange and yet... an intense gaze...

The Pichu, which I assume was Siryx, stared back. There was no fear in his eyes... only a weird expression of bravery and determination... and for a second, I had the feeling that everything had disappeared but the two, stuck in some kind of confrontation, about to lash out at each others, beginning a duel of epic proportions...

... yet... nothing happened. Mewtwo remained silent, the Pichu didn't moved an inch... both kept staring... I stepped backward... and slowly, Mewtwo stopped trembling... the electricity must have come out of his body and into the ground or something... and slowly, Mewtwo rose.

"You are of the Lightheart bloodline... I can sense it... This soul signature... this powerful aura... It has triggered my memories. So... you are the one..." Mewtwo's telepathy... I knew, for some reason, that the humans had not heard it but that all Pokemon had heard it... As for his tone... it was... serious, calm...

"So... you are a descendant of Ash Ketchum, aren't you?" said Mewtwo to Eliza, staring at her. Eliza stopped frowning... she stood there, staring back...

"WHOA! That Pokemon! It speaks!" that was one of the other trainers. They sound so stupid... like... DUH! Thank you captain obvious!

It was that male trainer again. He faced Eliza, smirking for Mew knows why... "Hey! I'll trade you any Pokemon for your Mewtwo! I mean it! Let's trade!"

Mewtwo pointed at the human, his eyes glowing... and my eyes widened as I seen the trainer reach for his neck, gasping for air. He... Mewtwo was choking that human!!!

"I am not merchandise. I am not to be traded or even owned! Is that clear, little human?... or shall I put a pressure sufficient on your neck to shatter it?" his tone was cold, commanding... you could sense that he meant business...

The trainer... with one hand, he struggled in vain against the pressure, with the other, he reached for a Pokeball... but then, the psychic force expended and froze the human.

"Do not even THINK about it!" his tone became sharp, as sharp as a cold blade of ice...

The trainers... they just stood there, staring at the human and not believing it. Eliza, her, seemed nervous, not knowing what to do... the Pichu gritted his teeth... and I... I... what am I doing?!? I should... no... I MUST intervene!

"I am not going to end your miserable life. You aren't worth the trouble. Spilling your blood all over my hands wouldn't be of any use to me. BEGONE!" boomed Mewtwo before I could do anything.

ZOOOOOOOM!!!

The human screamed as the psychic force ejected him straight up and into the sky. I stood there, staring as he slowly turned into a dot into the sky... smaller and smaller... before disappearing.

Then, I turned back to the trainers. Their eyes were widened and they were sweating... terror and tension could be sensed... and the feeling of ominous dread befell me, as well...

"Upon further thinking... you can keep it, Eliza." said one trainer.

"Yeah. Good luck with Mewtwo! Really!" said another one.

The trainers slowly stepped away from the big kitty... and then ran away as quickly as their human legs could allow them to, heading back toward Pallet Town. I hope that they learnt something from this experience... although the chances are, frankly, very slim.

I turned to Eliza... "That was mean, kitty..." she said, sadness in her eyes, staring at Mewtwo.

The big cat looked down. I could see him, uneasy... "My freedom... is the most precious possession I have along with my memories of my mate. I will not let a human remove my freedom... I just can't let them do so. I... I am more than just a tool..."

There was an awkward silence. Mewtwo was mean... true... but he was right... yet... did it justify sending that poor kid flying into the sky? I... I don't know...

"Why are you here? Why did you ran away? I cannot protect you from my daddy if you run away..." said Eliza, looking down...

I turned to Mewtwo, raising an eyebrow. What was she talking about?!? Mewtwo frowned... and I felt the awkwardness turn into confusion and regret...

"I... I was not myself... and anyway, I cannot be a mere Pokemon. I refuse too. The Mask... the Mask of Ice, which contained some of my memories, awakened... and it told me of a task, which I must complete." explained Mewtwo turning to face Eliza, remaining calm despite his feelings...

"A task?" asked Eliza, blinking a few times. I could see the Pichu on her shoulder... his curiosity rose as well...

"My son has awoke the Demons of Dark Vortex and was possessed by his own Dark Power... by a mock-up of the Ice Mask. Only I must carry the burden of the Ice Mask. I must find my son and heal his sorrow..." he explained.

"A son? You are a father?... but I thought Legendary Pokemon couldn't breed!" said Eliza. I could sense her hesitation. She wanted to believe Mewtwo... but he belief that Legendary Pokemon couldn't breed was strong...

"Mewlt... My son is Mewlt. The son of a forbidden union... between me and Mew." as Mewtwo finished, Eliza's eyes widened.

"Wait a minute here!" she interrupted. "I knew that Half-Mew is your son... but his mother is... Mew? How is that possible? I mean... you're like, opposites!... and you're much larger than she was!"

Mewtwo frowned, looking down. I knew what he was thinking... "If only I knew how it was possible for us to fall in love and have a child..." that was what he was thinking, I could sense it.

Eliza's face slowly turned to this pure innocence, that loving gaze of human children, untouched by the cruelty of Pokemon training. I liked how this innocence remained in her eyes... As long as it will remain within the hearts of humanity's children, I will have faith that humans and Pokemon can, someday, TRULY live in coexistence someday...

"You don't remember, don't you?" she asked, smiling. Mewtwo turned back to her and simply nodded, silently... "Then there's nothing left to say. I also take it that you're trying to find your son or something like that, isn't it?" again, Mewtwo nodded... "... well... I didn't understood all the stuff about the mask but... I'll try to help you as much as I can."

Mewtwo turned toward the horizon, staring at the blue, beautiful sky... "I fear that unless you can help us get to Cinnabar Island and then to Fushia City... then you can't help me."

Eliza frowned and looked down...

... but then... it struck me! My ears rose, my eyes widened, I stood on the tip of my toes, the realization striking my mind!

BUT OF COURSE!

Eliza is a Pokemon trainer! Maybe she could fetch us a ferry to Cinnabar Island and then, to Fushia City?... yes! Most definitely! I turned to Mewtwo, jumping up and down, trying to get his attention! "HEY! MEWTWO! MEWTWO! I KNOW HOW WE CAN MAKE IT TO CINNABAR ISLAND!"

Come on! Look at me you big feline doofus!... FINALLY! "Stop... bouncing... like a crazy Spoink! You're giving me a headache!" oh no! Listen to me! LISTEN!

"I KNOW HOW TO MAKE IT TO CINNABAR ISLAND!" I repeated. I stopped jumping now that I had his attention. He stared at me, crossing his arms, raising an eyebrow, awaiting for me to continue...

"Eliza! She's a Pokemon trainer! A human! She can fetch us a ferry to Cinnabar Island!" as I finished my sentence, Mewtwo's eyes widened and he proceeded to slap his forehead, rolling his eyes.

"WHY DIDN'T I THINK OF IT EARLIER?!?" his telepathy echoed loudly in the air as he realized the obvious.

He turned to Eliza, smirking. "Well... you can be of use, human." he said.

Eliza blinked a few times, awaiting Mewtwo to continue on... "And...?" she asked.

Mewtwo crossed his arms anew as his smile widened and his gaze became almost playful, naughty... "Weeell... You are a Pokemon trainer... aren't you?"

Eliza smiled, her face full of pride. "Yes! Sure!" she announced... but as she finished, confusion soon filled her human face. "... but well, how is it going to help you?"

A cold, cruel-sounded laugh filled the air... and that laugh sent a chill through my spine... It didn't mattered if his laugh was playful and innocent... for his voice was scary, whatever way you put it. "Heeheehee... well... There is a port to the south... and as a human, you could catch a ferry to Cinnabar Island."

Eliza's smile widened. "Bring you to Cinnabar Island? I can do that!... and anyway, I have to get away from my daddy. I don't think he'll think about going there, personally."

Well, it's settled then. I grinned... looks like we're going to travel with Eliza for a while... but then, Mewtwo pointed at Eliza.

"Oh and... about the golden Pokeball you carry... I remembered that it is the GS Ball and that I am linked to it... but remember that I will never ever accept to be your Pokemon... so don't even THINK about it!" his tone was threatening and cold... but Eliza giggled, rolling her eyes. "Yeah right! I'll remember it." she replied, as if nothing had happened...

I turned toward the horizon. Now... it is time!
