Pokemon Fan Fiction ❯ Seeing Selective Reality ❯ Chapter 4

[ T - Teen: Not suitable for readers under 13 ]

Well, here lives another chapter.
Disclaimer: I do not own pokemon, as it belongs to Nintendo. I do own the plotbunny and new characters. Do not take my non-profit, non-copyright infringing fanfic!
Notes: <> for telepathy, ** for thoughts, italics for pokemon talking. Don't know who Catelyn is? Check dragons' love. That's usually a prerequisite for my fics.

Chapter 4: Dateable?

“Magikarp, Tackle!”
“Dragonite! Outrage!” Catelyn called. Ash held up a flag, indicating her as the winner.
“No wonder the Mist badge is so easy to get from Kasumi. If she only uses Magikarp…”
Kasumi scowled. “Quit talking like I'm not here.”
“Whatever.” Catelyn said with a grin. “Okay, since I won, you're taking me out instead, right?”
“Hai!” Ash nodded, although he was flushing inside.

“Great!” Cat recalled her pokemon in blue lights. “Where are we going?”
“Um… there's a cute little movie playing called `The Life of Mew', let's go see it together.”
“Fine, I haven't seen it before.”
“What time should I pick you up?”
`Well, how about seven?”
“No, the move starts at six thirty.” Ash said. He frowned. “Is six okay?”
“Not a problem in any way, shape, or form.”
“Cool…”

That night, true to his word, Ash set out on his date. Sabrina had given him a handy set of note cards with directions on them.
While waiting in line to buy tickets, Ash quickly skimmed them, blushing at some and frowning at others.
Do not ask her any of the following: age, weight, or 3 sizes.
If you decide to engage in any activity outside of reasonable bounds, you are putting yourself at risk for AIDS, possibly pregnancy, and other unwelcome side effects. Please use caution.
Flowers are nice as long as not tacky. Yellow roses are never colorfully matching. Lilies indicate death, so unless she tells you she likes them, don't. The same applies for marigolds. And if you buy roses, give her the full dozen, or just one. Any other number of roses in between could result in bodily harm coming to you. Red roses indicate romantic love in case you didn't know… blue roses are eternal love if you can find them…
Poetry is always preferred if written by you as it shows heart. If clueless, try a modernized Shakespearean sonnet. However, if you can't rhyme at all, then skipping might be wise.
Do not use stupid pick-up lines. DANGER.
If she has a mallet, don't give her any occasion to use it. This is for your own good. Beware of hidden weapons.
Do not look at another girl or comment on another girl. It is generally considered unsafe.

At the window, Ash shoved the cards back into a pocket, paid for the tickets and the popcorn, and then the two sat inside the dark theatre to wait.
“Ash, what were you reading?” Catelyn asked curiously.
Ash sighed. “I've never dated before. They were a little guidebook from Sabrina.”
“Oh?” Cat giggled a little. “Amusing.”
“Have you?”
Cat shrugged. “Some guy who looks at me and swoons does not equal a good match. No, except when Will hooked me up with some strange friend called Eusine a few months ago.”
Ash felt a slight twinge of jealous. “And?”
“He spent the whole time talking about Suicune and how he wanted to catch it.” Catelyn grimaced. “So I fled the scene.”
“Wow!”

She paused to look at him. “Ash?”
“What?” Ash said, eyes closed since credits were still scrolling as well as trailers.
“Um… would you mind if I did this?”
Ash blinked, just as she kissed him lightly.
“… Wow…”
Cat grinned and gave him a hug. “Sorry, couldn't resist. Did you mind?”
“No, it was nice.” Ash replied. “But why?”
“Just in case any fangirls of yours stalked you here.” Catelyn whispered.
“Oh…”

A few rows away, muffled sobbing could be heard.
Catelyn smirked as Ash put a hand around her shoulders and they movie started. It was decent, no excessive swearing or nudity, and a few scenes where she could hug him without causing commotions.
It was… nice.
Sweet like chocolate, she decided as she smiled.

At the end, even Ash was wiping tears away when Mew had to leave earth and go back to the world where she lived, saying goodbye to the Squirtle.
“Sweet…”
“Isn't it?” Catelyn asked, as they left the theatre. “Let's go get some snacks at the hotdog stand across the street.”
“Sounds great to me!” Ash replied. They sat next to each other on a wooden bench, legs crossed, munching on spicy sausages flavored with relish.
Peace, Ash decided, was definitely worth trading in a trainer's life for. Happiness. Maybe even love?

He colored slightly as he remembered the kiss. It had been no overly affectionate, fake gesture. No, he could taste the sincerity.
She liked him.
He ran her fingers through her red hair playfully. No, it was more than nice. It was… a moment in time where he felt free.
He decided that he liked the feeling.

Cat got up and he followed, and the strolled down the dark boulevard, hand in hand, not really saying anything, but no words were needed.
The flames danced around them, invisibly.
Unfortunately, even tender fanfic scenes cannot last, and this one was shattered when a biker gang intruded upon it.
“Dragonite! Hyper Beam!”
Well, there went the biker gang.
Ash smiled as Cat flew him home on Dragonite's back.
