Chapter 2 - Amanda's first day at Hyoutei
Amanda stared at the person standing in front of her incredulously, she could not believe it. How could there be someone who had such ridiculous amount of ego in them; not to mention the person standing in front of her was still a junior high student.
'Oh great, this is simply awesome! This is my first day here and yet I've already met someone with ego just about the size of an elephant. What else is next?' Amanda thought to herself sarcastically.
Taking in a deep breath, Amanda tried to calm herself down. After all, she had no wish to create trouble on her first day in a new school. "Excuse me, Atobe-san... I do believe there are other students who have their own opinions. Therefore, I don't think it's right for you to decide for the whole class." she said, trying to control her temper.
Atobe Keigo eyed her for a moment, before asking. "Are you new here?"
Amanda blinked, not understanding the meaning behind of the question. Puffing her chest, she replied haughtily. "So what if I am? You got a problem with that?"
Atobe 'hmphed' and uttered a simple 'I thought so too.' Amanda could not help but felt offended at the tone Atobe was using with her. She gritted her teeth in frustration.
"Just what do you mean by that?" She retorted, emphasizing on the word 'that' to show she was not happy with the tone Atobe was using.
The rest of the students cringed and averted their eyes, trying to pretend as if the were not witnesses to this scene.
Atobe arched an eyebrow skeptically at the new girl in front of him, 'Clearly this girl had no idea of my status in Hyoutei.' With that thought in mind, he smirked at Amanda lazily and asked. "Do you have any idea who you are talking to?"
Amanda frowned; she did not see what his status had to do with having other students doing things by Atobe's wishes.
She replied calmly, "Yes, I have a very good idea of your status."
Atobe looked at her skeptically, "Oh really?" he drawled.
"Yes, in fact, you are the famous Atobe Keigo whom everyone is talking about, isn't it?" Amanda asked in return.
Atobe's eyebrow twitched, offended at her behaviour. The new girl obviously had no respect for him. No one else in his school had ever dared to raise their voice at him, much less talk back. A smirk formed on his face as he turned and asked the class. "Anyone else have objections to my idea?"
When silence met him, he turned back to Amanda and said, "As you can see, no one is objecting."
Amanda narrowed her eyes at Atobe, furious. But since no one else spoke up, she kept her comments to herself. She had no wish to trouble the teacher further. Her disagreement with Atobe had already created quite a stir, and she had no inclination to add more to it. However, she still did not agree with Atobe's reasoning. Obviously, the other students had their own opinions but kept it to themselves, as it was clear they feared to get on Atobe's bad side.
'Well... other people might fear you, but I do not!' Amanda thought firmly.
As soon as class was dismissed, she packed her bag swiftly and stormed towards the direction where Atobe was seen heading towards. The moment she spotted Atobe, she yelled loudly. "Stop right there!"
Atobe turned, his eyebrow twitched repeatedly. 'How dare she order Ore-sama around!' Despite his annoyance, he obeyed Amanda's wish and stopped. He was, after all, the ladies man. It was not in his nature to simply walk off and ignore a girl, since such actions could taint his reputation.
Amanda could hardly care less about what the other students would think. Frustration at her peak, and when she finally reached Atobe, she blew up at him.
"What makes you think you can just decide on the matter yourself? True, other students might not give a damn about it. However, did it ever occur to you that I might have my own ideas for it? Why must you always have the final say for the class? So what if you are rich? Who cares? Well...maybe others do... but I don't. I still don't see what's so good about you that causes nearly every girl in the school to swoon and worship you. Let me get this clear with you, they might worship you, fawn over you, idolize you or even 'adore' you... but I definitely do not. So Do Not Ever Expect Me To Obey You Without Valid Reasons!" Amanda growled out the last bit.
Throughout her rant, she realized Atobe was merely eyeing her with boring eyes. As soon as she finished ranting, Atobe asked. "Are you done? If that's all you wanted to tell me, then I shall take my leave..."
Amanda blinked. His response had been far from what she was expecting. During that period of silence, Atobe grinned and walked off casually, as if nothing had happened. When Amanda had regained her senses, it was too late to catch up with Atobe since the latter was already a good distance away.
Unhappy with the fact that Atobe had fled the site before she had finished with him, Amanda felt irritated beyond reason, her eyes scanned the area for something to vent her frustration on. She caught sight of a can of leftover soda. Kneeling down, she picked up the can and took aim, with the intention of throwing it at Atobe's retreating back.
However, before she was able to actually throw the can, a hand reached out and snatched the can out from her grasp. Turning around, she found herself staring at a boy who appeared to be around her age. Too mad to care, Amanda took her frustration out on the boy instead. After all, the boy should not have stopped her in the first place. She glared darkly at him and growled warningly, "Give me the can."
The boy smirked, "No, it'll damage school property and create a mess for the cleaners to clean up."
Amanda's eyebrow twitched dangerously, and before she knew what she was doing, she stomped heavily on his foot. After which, she stormed all the way to the school gate without even looking back.
"Yuushi, are you alright? That must be painful..." Gakuto Mukahi observed.
Oshitari Yuushi resisted the urge to curse. That had certainly been unexpected. He had only wanted to stop the girl from provoking Atobe further. Never could he have predicted that it would be at the cost of his foot. Turning to his doubles partner, Gakuto Mukahi, he muttered dryly. "What do you think?"
His doubles partner merely shrugged before heading off towards the school tennis court. Oshitari stared at the back of his partner for a moment, before heading in that direction himself. All the while, he tried not to wince as he put pressure on his left foot, thoughts still on that mysterious girl.
'I've never seen that girl around before, is she new around here? Whatever...I'll find out sooner or later.'
