Chapter 3 - A talk between sisters
Angela was upstairs in her room doing her schoolwork when she heard the front door slam shut. Counting mentally to three, she waited patiently for something to happen. Somehow, she knew that her twin was going to bug her for the rest of the afternoon. True enough, her bedroom door suddenly opened and closed loudly.
Glancing up, Angela found her sister slumped heavily down on her bed with an angry expression on her face. Turing in her seat so she faced her sister, Angela decided to cut to the point. Also she knew her sister detested people speaking in riddles.
"What happen?" She asked.
She watched in amusement as her sister's mouth open and closed, before groaning out in frustration. "The nerve of that idiotic guy, who does he think he is!"
"Amanda, what exactly happen?" Angela tried again.
Amanda had obviously not heard her sister's words as she merely continued to rant. With a sigh, Angela could only sit back and listen to her sister's frustrations.
After a good long while, her sister finally simmered down. Angela decided that it would be a good time to grab the opportunity and asked, "So who's this guy you've been mouthing off since you reached home?"
Her sister let out an unlady-like snort, "Who else but that Atobe Keigo, who thinks he's so high and mighty."
"Aa... so did anything else happen, aside from that guy?" Angela asked.
Amanda pondered for a moment before grinning sheepishly, "Well...I'm not sure, I was too mad to care. Although, I think I stomped on one of the other student's foot..."
Angela's eyes widen at her sister's statement, 'Gosh, that must have hurt. I pity whoever stopped my sister from doing what she pleased.' "Okay... do you by chance remember which student was it?" she asked tactfully.
"No... But it must have been one of that Atobe's friends. After all, I only stomped on his foot when he stopped me from throwing a can of leftover soda at Atobe." Amanda dismissed the matter simply.
"Oh..." Angela echoed, knowing there was no point in questioning her sister further. Her sister never made it a point to take note of her surrounding when she was having a fit.
Angela was drawn back into reality at the sound of her sister's voice.
"Enough about me, what about you?" Amanda asked.
"Huh?" Angela blinked. "Oh... it was fine, nothing much happened."
Amanda eyed her critically, "Are you sure? I don't believe that nothing happened on your first day."
"What do you mean by that?" Angela questioned.
"I don't know, call it a 'twins instinct' or something. I know you have something on your mind." Amanda stated.
"Well... it's nothing compared to what you'd went through in school today. Are you sure you want to know about my day at school?" Angela responded.
"Yes, I want to know everything." Amanda answered firmly.
"Well... if you say so, I met two boys in my class. They are quite polite and helpful. They even offered to show me around the school. After which, they brought me to the tennis club to have a look. Apparently, both of them were part of the boys' team. I watched them practice on court and they introduced me to their club members. That's basically about it. After the practice I came straight home." Angela summarized her day in Seigaku with a matter-of-fact tone of voice, hoping to bore her sister.
Somehow her sister had another idea in mind, as soon as she stopped talking. Her sister asked. "So how is it?"
"Huh?" Now she was baffled, she did not have the slightest idea to what Amanda might be referring to.
Amanda rolled her eyes at Angela, "Are the boys cute or good-looking? Did you see anyone as your potential partner?"
"Just what do you mean by potential partner?" Angela retorted.
Amanda grinned impishly, "In short, did you see anyone you fancy or might fancy?"
Angela flushed bright red, and then scolded Amanda playfully. "Hey! Why are you asking something like that? I went to school to study not to date boys!"
"Gosh, is there nothing else but studying in that head of yours?" Amanda let out a sigh of exasperation.
"What's wrong about concentrating on studies?" Angela retorted, feeling the urge to defend herself.
"There's nothing wrong with 'studying', but you obviously /need a life/ outside of books!" Amanda answered back, emphasizing on the phrase 'need a life'.
Angela was about to say something else in return when the two girls heard their mother's car in the driveway.
"Oops, I better go and changed out of my uniform. It's my duty to help mom out in the kitchen tonight." Amanda bounced out of the door happily and hummed a cheerful tune to herself as she made her way to her room, leaving Angela alone.
As soon as Angela heard the door opened and closed, she flopped herself unceremoniously onto her bed and wondered. 'Am I really that dull to be with? Do I really need a life outside of school?'
Letting out a sigh, she lay on her back and eyed the plain ceiling in contemplation. After a while, she removed herself from the bed and headed back to her long forgotten homework. For the next few hours, her mind was full of nothing but school assignments. It wasn't until her mother called her down for dinner, did she realized she had been doing homework non-stop over the past four hours.
Letting out a sigh of resignation, she thought. 'Amanda's right, I do need a life outside of books.' With that thought in mind, she headed down to join her family for dinner.
