Jun waved goodbye to Mr. Moto as he left and the next teacher came in. This one was a push over. He didn't bother to say a word. He just got up and left. He was bored, and personally he couldn't care less about history. It was the past, how did that benefit him for the future? He was going to go out to his car, but it was raining and he didn't feel like getting wet. "Well...fuck."

Anna retraced her steps back to the school. She walked in to the gate while holding herself and beating herself up about losing her phone, umbrella, and boyfriend within one hour. She didn't even glance at Jun as she walked in the school doors. The staff looked at her as she shivered.

"Can I use the phone? I want to go home..." she said.

Jun tried not to laugh as he saw her come walking into the school like a drowned rat. She was quite the pathetic little thing. The staff quickly allowed her use of a phone so that she could call her parents. That ought to teach her a lesson about going out when its raining and leaving school. She seemed quite upset over something. Then again, when hadn't he seen her when she was upset?

After calling her parents, Anna went back out into the rain. She left her backpack at the bridge. Despite the staffs' protest, she went out and tried to remember the way she went. By that time, she was shaking badly from the cold rain. But she lost her phone and umbrella so she couldn't leave her bag behind.

Reisha excused herself to go to the bathroom. As she went down the hallway she was Jun just standing there, staring outside. He was smiling, which was just creepy for him. "So this is what you do when you leave class? Just stare outside? Surely this isn't more fun than Mr. Miyomi's lecture about the Meji era."

"Actually, it is," Jun said. "That new girl, Green, apparently today her boyfriend broke up with her. She lost her cell phone. Lost her umbrella. She even left her backpack out in the rain so now she has to go get it." Shaking his head he chuckled. "If she does this every day school might not be so boring. I could record her and watch it later for a good laugh."

"That's awful!" Reisha exclaimed as she looked out at the rain. "She'll catch her death out in that weather."

"So?"

She glared at Jun and whacked him on his cheek. He winced and it was only then that she noticed that his cheek was swollen. "Your dad was home last night?"

He rubbed his cheek and didn't answer. Reisha was one of the few people that he actually bothered to socialize with. She knew his secrets and he knew hers. It worked out and made life slightly easier sometimes.

Crossing her arms beneath her chest she stared out at the rain. "You know, a samurai would go out and help her," she told him. "Isn't that what your kendo about bushido and all that?"

"There are some parts of kendo I enjoy and others I do not," he told her. "Really, when have I ever cared about someone other than myself?"

She just sighed. He was hopeless. It was hard to believe that once upon a time he was actually a nice kid.

Anna grabbed her bag and once again walked back to the school. Before she could reach the doors, her mother's car pulled up. She dropped her bag and ran to her mother as she got out of the car with an umbrella. Anna began crying harder.

"Oh, Anna. Two bad days in a role," her mother said. "What happened?"

"I threw my phone in the river....and the storm took my umbrella...." Anna explained.

"Why on earth would you throw it in the river?" Anna looked away and her mother instantly understood. She never liked Brandon. "That cheating son of a bitch!" Anna looked at her. "Don't repeat that." She grabbed her shoulders. "We will get you a new phone. A better phone. The best phone."

Anna shook her head and looked down. "I want my old phone."

Jun just stood at the doorway watching the scene unfold. He couldn't tell what they were saying, but he found it strangely amusing. It was like one of those American sitcoms they were forced to watch in English class. Checking the clock, it was almost the third class of the day. He might as well cut his losses. His dad would be gone by now so he could go home and sleep in his bed rather than against a hard window. His neck was still hurting from that. He didn't bother to inform anyone. They would figure it out on their own soon enough.

Her mother went inside to talk to her teachers and Anna held the umbrella while going to her bag again. She picked it up. It was soaked just like her. She looked up at the sky. Was this a joke? Was it some way of telling her to lighten up? Well...it wasn't funny. It sucked.

Jun avoided her mother. While he might take enjoyment in her daughter's misery, he had his fair share of lectures from parents over his time. He didn't care for one today. Not that it really mattered, he never listened to them anyways; but this Green girl had put him into a good mood. He'd hate for it to be ruined.

Heading to his car he looked back at her trying to go through her back. Shaking his head he got into his car and started it.

Despite being out in the rain for hours, Anna was fine in the morning. Though she cried herself to sleep and begged God to kill her, she was physically fine. As she looked in the mirror, she told herself to smile. Other people were worse off than her. She put on her freshly washed and pressed school uniform and then her socks and shoes. Her mother did get her a new and better phone and this phone didn't have the pictures of her and Brandon or his number. It was a fresh start and that's what she needed.

Jun groaned. Once again he didn't go to sleep till three, but this time it was his own fault. He'd been up on the computer late and had lost track of time. Now he was just exhausted. Yawning, he realized that he was going to be late once more. Oh well. Running his hands through his hair he got dressed and drove to school. He didn't bother to hurry, what was the point?

"Yo," he muttered as he stumbled into the classroom. His eyes were half shut and he was yawning even as he walked toward his desk.

"You can't just come and go as you please," Mr. Moto told him. "You'll have to report to the headmaster after school so that you can be reprimanded."

"Sure thing." He yawned again before trying to go back to sleep.

It was only her third day, and Anna was late. At least her mother called ahead and she was excused. Thank God for mothers! She walked in the building and down the hall to her class. Walking in, she bowed to Mr. Moto and handed her the note. "Sorry I'm late. I'll do my best to make sure it doesn't happen again," she said with a very small, very tiny smile. Look, she just got dumped, it was the best she could do.

Mr. Moto looked at the note and then to her. "Have you gotten this excused by the head master?"

"Yes, my mother called him on my way here," she said. Honestly, the headmaster was great friends with her father. They met in the U.S. before Anna was even born and the headmaster was the very man that talked her parents into moving here. He promised to 'look after little Anna' while she was in his school.

"Very well." Mr. Moto put the letter into his desk and looked over at Jun who was already asleep. Walking over to his desk, the teacher shoved it slightly, jostling Jun awake. "You know, if you weren't out so late at night partying and being a delinquent you might actually learn something in school."

Jun yawned. "And you know, if you had hair you might actually get a girlfriend."

Despite the obvious death glare from their teacher, some of the students couldn't help but to snicker at this. "That's it! Jun, go to the head master's office." Looking at Anna who still hadn't sat down, he motioned to her. "You make sure that he goes or you'll both be in trouble."

Jun pushed himself out of his desk. Well, this had certainly been a short day. "Sounds good. I'll just go back to bed and get some sleep."

Anna pointed to herself. "Me? But..." The looked on the teachers face was stern and she sighed but nodded. As Jun stood and walked out she followed. They walked to the headmaster's office and she opened the door. As soon as the headmaster saw her, he smiled and hugged her. She was like family.

While the headmaster hugged Anna, Jun just rolled his eyes and started out the door. He wasn't going to bother with this.

"Jun! Where do you think you're going?"

Jun froze. "I'm going home."

"No, you're not. Come here."

Jun groaned. He wasn't nearly conscious enough to actually deal with this today. "Okay, fine. What is it?"

The head master motioned for Anna to sit as he turned to Jun. "Well, quite frankly I'm tired of the way you've been treating the staff and your fellow students."

"Uh huh...anything else?"

"Yes. If you don't start at least trying to apply yourself I'm going to have a long talk with your father about the way you behave."

Jun smirked. "So is that what this is about? You want to pressure my dad into giving the school more money?"

"That's not it at all," the head master replied. "I'm thinking about your future. What have you learned since you've been here? Absolutely nothing. If it weren't for your father's fortune and corporation you wouldn't even have the slightest hope of ever making something of yourself unless you actually apply yourself."

"Yeah...thanks but no thanks."

Anna felt uncomfortable. At that moment she wish she didn't understand Japanese so she wouldn't have to hear sure a personal conversation. So Jun was one of the smug rich boys? Great! Just perfect! And he was her partner in one of their classes! Her life sucked so bad. She crossed her fingers. "Please don't let him be stuck with me..." she whispered to herself. Usually in situations such as these the adult puts the student with another student to tutor. And at the moment...she was the only one in the room.

"I'm afraid you don't have a choice, Jun. I have all your so called 'grades' from your classes. You're failing, and I'm certain that your father wouldn't want to hear that."

Jun rolled his eyes. "I'm also certain that the school wouldn't like to hear that over half of its funding had suddenly been cut either."

"That's a risk I'm willing to take." Looking over at Anna, he gave her a small smile. "Jun, you're by far the worst student this school has ever had. Anna here has exceptional grades from all her other schools. Seeing as how you two already share classes, I figure that you might be able to help each other out."

Jun tried to gauge if the head master was being funny. If he was trying to make a joke, he didn't get the punch line. "And just how could she help me?"

"Very simple. She'll help you actually learn the material in your classes so you can do the work yourself. In return you will help to show her the ropes around the school and help her feel more comfortable in Japan."

"I don't need her help," Jun muttered.

"Oh really? Jun, what was the major turning point of the Meiji era?"

Jun was silent.

"What's the most basic element found on earth? What's the square root of 64? Give me a sentence in English, anything!"

Jun was still silent.

"Yes, I'm certain you'll do just fine on your own."

Anna shot up from her chair. "This is unfair!" she said. She started speaking English. "You can't honestly throw me in with him! I'm having the worst week of my life and now I have to babysit? You must reconsider! I'm begging you!" She moved to him and grabbed his hand. "I can learn the ropes on my own or...I'll transfer or get home schooled or something...." She shook her head. "Please don't stick me with him. I'll do anything! I'll even tell my mom to make you those pasta rolls you like so much. Anything!"
