He smirked. "Well, that's about ninety percent of the time," he told her. "Dad mainly stays at work. He only comes homes to host parties for his partners and to have business meetings. Generally I come home, fix dinner, watch television, and that's about it."

He reached into the fridge and began pulling out food. "My life is pretty boring, but it doesn't bother me. That's just how it is. I've gotten accustomed to it."

Anna walked over and started helping him get some stuff out of the fridge. Half of it, she had never seen before. "I guess I understand all that," she finally said. "My parents like to travel a lot. Most the time it's during my school term so I end up having the house to myself for weeks at a time. Sometimes when they come back from their travels, I end up moving. They like the places they visit so much that they want to live there. I've never had a problem with moving, since I never really made that many friends." She smiled at him. "Seems like every school I go to they treat me like I have the plague. Even here people stare." She played with her hair. "Though I think it has a lot to do with the fact that I'm American...and blond..." She laughed and moved to the bar with him.

"Brandon was the only one to pay me any attention besides one other girl in my last school. But since she gave my new number to him, I'm kinda pissed at her. I guess I always though Brandon would be the one person that wouldn't treat me like everyone else does. But being the laughing stock of a bunch of different schools hardens your skin so being here with everyone staring and whispering isn't really so bad. At least I'm not being shoved into walls...yet." Again, she laughed. "It seems you have never had to go through that kind of stuff in school. You are very popular with the girls and the guys. That was one of the reasons why I judged you so quickly. There is always some rich boy in school who thinks of themselves as a God." She smiled at him. "Guess you just happened to be misunderstood more than anything."

As Jun prepared them some bulgogi, he just listened to what all she had to say. She sure could talk a lot. Though he was surprised that she was telling him all of this. When she started talking about him, he paused. Turning on the stove, he stirred the beef and listened. After throwing some spices onto the meat, he looked back at her.

"The thing about being up on a pedestal is that everyone waits for you to fall." He went back to cooking, but he kept thinking about what she'd said. He still couldn't figure out why she had told him all of this. He didn't bother to tell her that he knew what it was like to be pushed around. Back when he was younger it happened all the time. Now...not so much unless it was just someone itching for a fight.

Anna tilted her head to the side. "What's so wrong with falling, Jun?" she asked. "As long as you can stand up again, falling isn't so bad. You learn the most when you fail."

Jun looked at her and smirked. "Failing really isn't an option in my family. You either succeed or...." He stopped and smiled. "Well, we just succeed. That's about it."

Anna slid up on the counter and sat on it. "Maybe it's because your family is afraid to fall." She smiled. "Don't worry, Jun. If you fall, I'll catch you." Just then her phone rang. It was her mother's ring. She had set Brandon's ring on vibrate but her mother's stayed loud. She hopped off the counter and walked back to the dining room to answer it. Her mother started talking before Anna could say hello.

Jun watched her walk away, presumably to talk to her mother. If he fell...she'd catch him. What an odd thing to say. Shaking his head, he finished cooking their meal and quickly put it on two plates for them. He kept an eye on her, however, curious as to what her mother was saying.

"Mom...slow down. I can't understand you," Anna said.

"Ok," her mom said taking a deep breath. She was excited. "You know your father is staying in the city to build Mr. Higarashi's new office, right?"

"Yes, what about it?" Anna asked. Her father wouldn't be home but a few times in the next few months because once he starts on a project, he doesn't like leaving until it was done.

"Well, while he was gone, an old friend offered to take me and him to Egypt!" her mother screamed.

Anna held the phone away from her and winced as the loud tone hit her ear drum. "That's great, mom. When will you be leaving?"

"Well, I told her I wouldn't go."

"Why?"

"You just started school, Anna Bo Bana. And you are having such a hard time adjusting. I didn't want to leave you all alone," she said sweetly.

"I'll be fine, Mom. Rei and I can have a sleep over or something. And Dad is only a few hours away if something happens. You should go. I mean, it's Egypt," Anna said with a smile.

"Why don't you come with me, Anna?"

"You know I can't. I have school."

"You are the only teenage girl who wouldn't jump at this opportunity." Her mother sighed. "You sure you will be ok? I mean, this is so much different from leaving you at home in the states. You don't know the area. And they don't even have a Starbucks."

Anna laughed. "I'll manage. When will you leave?"

"Tomorrow."

Her heart fell. "So soon?"

"It was short notice. But I was hoping to leave for the airport hotel tonight. Maybe you can stay with one of your friends tonight so you're not all alone." Anna was quiet. Her mother never left so soon before. "Anna?"

"I'll...call someone. Have fun, Mom. Call me when you can."

"I'll stay, Anna if you want me to? Just say you want me to," she said.

"No, you should go. You might not get another chance like this."

"Alright. I'll call as soon as I can, ok? I love you!"

"I love you too."

The phone line went dead and Anna closed her phone. She cradled it in her hands for a long moment. She had forgotten to ask her mother how long she would be gone.

Jun looked up as he heard her get off the phone. "Seriously, every time you use that thing you look upset. What's up?"

Anna pushed her hair behind her ear as she turned to him. She had completely forgotten he was there...and she was in his home. "My mom's leaving tonight. Guess we'll both be empty houses," she said then laughed lightly.

Jun looked at her curiously. "Ah, well that sucks." He motioned for her to sit down and relax. There was no point about worrying over something you couldn't control.

"I'm sorry," she said gathering her things. "I shouldn't stay. I have to find someone to stay with tonight and Rei told me she was staying with another friend tonight after her study group." She turned to him while shoving books in her bag. "Whenever you want to do this again, I'll be free. Just let me know what time is ok for you."

"Oh..." Jun was slightly surprised that he was disappointed by this news. "Well, who will you stay with? I didn't think that you knew that many people."

Anna laughed. "I don't. That's the tough part, so I should get out there and make friends now before night fall." She looked at her watch. "In about half an hour..."

Jun hesitated as he heard this. She didn't have anyone.... Clearing his throat, he couldn't believe what he was about to stay. "Well, if you wish we...have an extra guest bedroom...."

Anna dropped her school bag in shock. Her...sleeping at a boys house...no parents...all alone. She blushed then went to grab her books and bag off the floor. "Do you think...I mean...is it appropriate for me to stay? What would your father say?"

"He wouldn't find out," Jun said quickly. At least he hoped he wouldn't. He could already imagine his father's reaction; and it wouldn't be pleasant.

Anna looked up at him from the floor as she put the books back in her bag. "Thank you," she said pausing for a moment to look him in the eyes then continued to pick her books up.

Jun just nodded. "It's no problem. Just think of it as...reimbursement for helping me to study." Looking down at the food, he set his chopsticks down and rubbed his temples. "Um...will you need anything from your house?" What had he just gotten himself into?

Anna stood after grabbing her books. Well, he wasn't a gentleman, that was for sure. She put her bag back down. "Unless you have something for me to wear to sleep in and an extra toothbrush, then I suppose I do," she laughed.

He was going to tell her that they probably did, but he thought against that. "Alright, then let's go get you what you need; and we can eat when we come back." He quickly moved to pick up the plates and carry them to the kitchen. After covering them up, he grabbed his car keys.

Anna left her books there. They could study more tomorrow. She followed him out and got into his car. They didn't say anything in the car expect when Anna told him which roads to take. When they pulled up to her house, she sighed. Her mother's care was already gone. Getting out she walked to the door and unlocked it. She turned to Jun. "My room is this way," she said as she walked upstairs and down the hall. Her room was simple. White walls and most of her stuff were still in boxes. If it wasn't for the stuffed pig on her bed, you wouldn't be able to tell it was a girl’s room. "It's not much, but I learned to never unpack things unless I need them. We move so much and I hate having to unpack and then pack up all over again." She went to her closet and pulled out a blue bag. Grabbing some clothes and other things she would need, she put them in the bag.

"You have a nice home," he said, uncertain of what else to say. It was a quaint house, but still nice nonetheless. Looking at the stuffed pig on her bed, he smirked. "A friend of yours?"

Anna turned to the little pig and smiled. She reached over and grabbed it. "The first time my parents left me home alone was when I was ten. They went to Washington back in the U.S. and they were gone before I woke up in the morning. But when I opened my eyes and rolled over, there was this little stuffed pig with a note that said they loved me and would call after I got home from school. When my parents leave, they put him on my bed and when they come home, he disappears. It's their way of saying that I'm not so alone. Mom must have put him here before she left." She put the pig back on the bed. "But...I don't really need him anymore. I don't get so lonely anymore."

Jun wished that he could say that he couldn't imagine what it was like being alone all the time. Unfortunately, he had a pretty decent idea about that particular subject. "Yeah, the more time you spend alone the easier it gets."

She smiled and handed him her bag. "I'll meet you in the car. I just got to get my toothbrush and check and see if my mom left a note."

He took the bag and nodded. It wasn't until he got into the car with her bag of clothes that it finally hit him. He was having a girl sleep over with him. The last time that had happened it was Reisha, but that didn't really count because she was more like a sister then anything. But this...was different. Looking down at the bag, he groaned and put it in the back seat. He couldn't think about this. Why did Reisha have to be gone tonight?

Anna grabbed her toothbrush from her bathroom and looked around the house but there was no note. Anna frowned, but walked back up to her room. She stood in the doorway and looked at her pig. Walking over to him, she picked him up and hugged him close. Maybe one more night with him couldn't hurt. She went down stair, locked her front door, and got in the car with Jun. She didn't say a word as she buckled up. Her pig laid in her her lap, its head slumped to the side.

Jun looked at the pig and smiled. Pulling away from her house, they soon found themselves back at his place. Taking her back, he showed her the guest bedroom. It wasn't too lavishly decorated, just a bed, desk, and television. "I hope that this will be alright."

"It has a bed, that's all I need," she said taking her bag and putting it along with her pig on the bed. She went to the window and looked out. His back yard was large with a beautiful garden and a swimming pool. Anna's eyes moved over then room and then landed back on Jun. She didn't know what to say. "Thanks again for this."

"It's no problem," he assured her. He just considered it repayment. That was it. Nothing more. "Would you like to eat now or would you like to relax?" He was accustomed to his father playing the host. All he ever did was wait on people, so he wasn't too certain what they should do now.

"If I get hungry, I'll get something to eat, Jun. I have arms and legs. I know how to use them," she said with a soft smile. "I won't get in your way. It's just for tonight. I'll study with you tomorrow and leave that afternoon. By Monday, everything will be back to normal."

"As you wish," Jun stated. "Just feel free to uh...make yourself at home." He looked back at her once more to make sure that she was indeed okay before he went on his way. The guest room was downstairs, so he went up to his room and changed into something loose fitting. The only part of the house he spent a lot of time in was the room that his father had grudgingly allowed them to build.

Turning on his iPod, he put it on his armband and took out his bokken. Closing his eyes, he started his nightly routine.

Anna closed her door and walked back over to the window. She sat on the wide window seal and held her pig in her arms while watching the sun set. The sky burst into colors of pinks and oranges with swirls of reds and yellows. Jun's backyard only added to the beauty and suddenly, Anna felt so alone.

After thirty minutes of non-stop movement, Jun was thoroughly tired. Taking off his shirt, he grabbed a bottle of water out of the mini fridge and downed it. Changing the tracks on his iPod, he soon looked out the window. Darkness had descended and the night air was starting to make it cooler.

His fist hit the punching bag, and soon he started again. This was how he spent his time when he was alone.

Anna's phone persisted to vibrate. Reaching over she opened it and Brandon greeted her. "Anna, you finally picked up. I take it you have decided to give me another chance? I haven't received any proof of there being someone else."
