Jun took a deep breath. He knew that they had to do this, but he still wasn't looking forward to it. He'd already told the board of directors to expect an influx in stock. News had already spread, and he was expecting there to be a swarm of reporters. Taking Anna's hand, they walked outside and made their statement. There wasn't much to say. They were married. She was pregnant. That was simply how it was. After that their lives really weren't any different. They were how they always were. Anna spent her days with him and preparing for her classes. He worked at the company, trying to get things ready for his new vice president to take over some of the responsibility.

Jun kissed Anna as he grabbed his car keys. "I'll be okay driving to the doctor's office by myself," he told her. "The headaches come and go, but they're nothing serious. The doctor just likes worrying."

Anna sighed. "We wreck and die, I'm kicking your ass in the afterlife," she said as she got in.

Jun rolled his eyes. It didn't take him long to get to the hospital, but almost as soon as he did another headache came. His hands shook as he pushed the pills into his mouth to keep the headache back. "Damn headaches," he muttered. Getting out of the car, he had to hold onto the door. Suddenly he felt very dizzy. Shaking his head, he took two steps and quickly grabbed onto the hood. He was suddenly finding it hard to walk. What the hell was going on? "G-gimme a sec," he said as he rested against the car.

Anna rushed to his side. This wasn't like Jun. She looked around and saw a doctor walking out. "Help! Please!" she called to him. He rushed over and pushed his beeper. In a matter of seconds someone came out with a stretcher. Anna watched as they helped Jun on the stretcher and rushed him away. Anna ran after them only to be stopped in the hallway by Jun's doctor.

"What is going on?!" she screamed. "What's wrong with my husband!?"

Jun's doctor tried to calm her down. "It's okay. We'll get him on some medication. He's probably suffering altercations due to the...." He stopped and looked at Anna."I'd hoped to tell you this under better circumstances. The reason for his headaches is because he has a brain tumor, Anna. We don't know if it's cancerous yet, but we need to treat it as soon as possible."

Anna felt her heart stop. The world slipped away and she turned to the double doors they rushed Jun through. Her purse dropped to the floor, spilling everything onto the hospital ground. Tears slowly trailed from her eyes as she tried to grasp onto what Jun's doctor had just told her. Before she had time to really adjust, her legs wobbled, her eyes rolled back, and she hit the ground.

The doctor ran smelling salts beneath Anna's nose. She was laying in a bed in one of their open rooms. "Mrs. Higarashi," he said in a soothing tone as her eyes shot open. "You fainted," he told her as if he had to remind her what happened.

Anna grabbed her head. She looked around. No Jun. It wasn't a dream. Anna started crying again. Of all the times for her parents to not be here! They were on vacation in African jungles. They decided to leave their phones to get a real feel of the jungle and wouldn't be back for a month or two. Anna had no one here to tell her how to react. She was losing someone else to cancer. It was unfair! She buried her face in her hands and cried harder. She just couldn't lose Jun.

"Hey, it's okay," the doctor said, clearly uncertain what to do for her. "Jun wants to see you. We have him on some medication and we're going to be talking over options as to what to do for him. Right now it looks like surgery is our best option."

As he helped her to stand he handed her some tissue. "Right now might not be the best time for him to see you cry," he said softly.

Anna turned her back to the doctor. He was asking her to be strong. That's what her parents said when Adam was put in the hospital. They asked her not to cry in front of him, she had to be brave. Anna didn't want to be brave. She wanted to cry. She wanted to cry and keep crying until there was nothing left in her, but she had no option.

For a while, she just stood there trying to control herself. The pit of her stomach turned and she rushed to the trash can to throw up. Afterward, she rinsed out her mouth with some water the doctor gave her and popped a mint in her mouth. She wiped her eyes and walked down the hall with the doctor. She was trying so hard not to cry, but it was harder than she wanted it to be. She blamed it on hormones. The doctor opened the door and Anna stepped in. Jun looked so pale. How could it have gotten this bad without her knowing? There were signs with Adam but not one with Jun...just a headache.

Anna stood more than a few feet from him. Looking at him she could see Adam all over again. This was hard and she knew it was harder for Jun...but she just couldn't get any closer. Her hand went over her heart as if looking for guidance from her little brother's beat.

"Anna." Jun smiled as he sat up. The nurses argued against it, but he paid them no mind. It didn't matter what they said. Jun held out his hand for Anna to take it. The doctor had already told him what his options were, but like before he didn't listen. He knew what he was going to do. He knew what might happen as well. Still, it would be worth it.

"I told you they worry too much here." He chuckled lightly.

Anna couldn't help it. The tears were too strong. They broke free as she looked at Jun sitting there, reaching for her. She made no sound, but she back away, pushing her back against the wall.

"I'm...so sorry...." she said shaking her head. "I can't...not again...."

She wanted to run. She wanted to run and never look back. This was her husband, and he needed her and she didn't even have the courage to go to him. What kind of wife was she? She was the only family he had and she wasn't brave enough to be at his side. Didn't she promise to be with him until the end? ...the end... Was that soon?

Jun's smile fell as she backed away from him. Why? Why was she backing away from him? Why when he needed her most? He once told her that no matter what happened he'd always come for her. Evidently that wasn't the same for her. His eyes fell down as he laid back down on his bed. "I'm sorry for putting you through this again," he whispered.

Anna opened the door and backed out. She slid to the floor and balled while grabbing her phone. "Reisha...it's bad...you have to come to the hospital...Jun...please...." she begged while trying to stop her voice from shaking between sobs.

"Such a pity. It looks like Jun won't be around for the baby. Pity." A doctor walked past, Anna, looking at her briefly before hurrying through the crowd. In his hands were Jun's medical files, as well as Anna's.

Anna went cold. She knew that voice, but when she looked up he was gone. Eric....her worst nightmare. Anna hung up her phone. Slowly, she got to her feet. She was shaking badly, but she knew that there was too much going on to think about herself. Eric was back...Jun was sick...and she was pregnant. She felt faint again and grabbed the wall to steady herself. She was terrified.

Her lips hardened and she forced herself to open the door again. Walking in, she forced her wobbly legs to walk forward. Her body shook so bad that it was hard for balance. Finally, she made it to Jun. Hesitantly, she took his hand while hers shook violently.

"You and me...until the end..." she whispered.

Eric was back and she was more alone than ever. As her body shook, she knew that it was because of fear for Jun and for Eric's return. She would have to keep it to herself. Jun was to never know...not with him sick. She was alone. So very much alone.

"You look as if I'm dying," Jun said as he kissed her hand. "This is just a...minor setback. Good thing I got that vice president." He wasn't gong to let her know how terrified he was. She was obviously in no condition to bear the brunt of this burden. So he would smile as if everything was okay. As if this was nothing more than him having to get glasses. Just another day in the life of Jun Hisaragi.

"Stop smiling," she whispered. "I'm not smiling and neither are the doctors. So stop smiling. This isn't ok. You're not ok. We are not ok. Nothing is ok." She pulled a chair over and sat down, her hand still in his while her head rested on the bed. She could see Adam smiling at her. He did the same thing, smiling until the coma came. "I'm not a child. I...I know that it's not ok."

Jun shrugged. "Maybe not, but I'm certain that we'll be fine. I'm too important to...well, you know." Die. There really wasn't any good way of something that. Just thinking about it made his heart skip a beat. "The doctor talked to me. He said the best option was to have surgery. That way they can remove the.... Well, hopefully they'll be able to get it out and it won't be cancerous. Chemotherapy doesn't exactly sound all that luxurious."

Anna narrowed her eyes. "Is this a joke to you? Too important to die? Adam was important. He was eight. His favorite color was yellow. He love dinosaurs and clay. He loved math and hated spelling, but he wasn't good at either of them. He was important to me and to my family and he still died," she said. "This isn't funny. I'm not laughing. This is serious, Jun. Surgery is serious. I...I...can't live my life without you."

Jun sighed. "I realize how important this is, but worrying about it won't change the outcome of it. I'd rather enjoy myself, and not have to worry about whether or not they could mess up while probing around in my brain. There's so much that could go wrong, and there's nothing I can do about it."

"Fine, you enjoy the jokes and I'll sit here in reality," she said. Her head turned from him and she looked at the wall. Even if her parents were home, would they even come? Most likely her mother wouldn't. Cancer was a big thing for her mother. If it wasn't for the fact that Anna was Jun's wife, she wouldn't be there either. Sitting in the same spot she did so many years ago, once again holding a hand and listening to the same words all over again....

"Don't cry, Anna Bo Bana," Adam said as Anna held his hand. "I'll be ok! I get more chemo today and I'll be good as new! Besides, I have to beat you in Uno. You never let me win." He laughed lightly as Anna watched his thin, pale face smile.

"I'll let you win next time, Adam. I promise. You and me all the way!" Anna said and finally smiled after wiping her tears.

Anna placed her free hand over her heart. She left him behind. She didn't go with him all the way like she promised. He never got to beat her at Uno and he joked about everything even while he was so young and knew he was dying. He smiled because he had to. Just like Jun. Why didn't they understand that smiling did no good? It didn't change anything. It didn't make anyone feel better. It didn't make the cancer go away.

Jun closed his eyes and sat back. There wasn't much else he could do. The doctor came in and talked over the procedure with him once more. He wanted to make certain that Jun knew the risks, but it didn't do any good. Jun wanted to go ahead and get the surgery over with. He didn't want to waste months wondering and questioning. He didn't want to go through chemo if he didn't have to. He didn't want to be too sick and frail to see his child being born. Even if it hurt, even if it kept him from doing what he loved, it didn't matter so long as he could see his child be born.

"Let's go ahead and do it," Jun told them.

Anna was pulled away from him as they wheeled his bed away. She had a chance to tell him she loved him and she would be waiting but he disappeared before saying it back. The nurses showed Anna where to go to wait and told her it could take hours. She was free to go home, but she wouldn't. Reisha would be there soon after she got her message. Anna sat in the waiting room and looked around. It was just too much like Adam. She remembered waiting in a room just like the one she was in now with her parents holding her close. Did it always come down to this? Waiting...worrying...crying?

Reisha hurried into the waiting room. She looked around, trying to call Anna to find out what was wrong with Jun. She heard a phone go off and she looked at Anna. "What's going on? What happened to Jun? Where is he?"

Anna looked at the doors where they took Jun. She felt like a ghost now. Numb and zoned out. Her face was soaked with tears, but she seemed to not notice them anymore. It had been hours since she had been in that room and the press was outside the hospital fighting with the police to get inside and get a shot of her waiting or of Jun in surgery.

"He's...in surgery...he has a tumor in his head. They don't know if it's cancer. But I have this sinking feeling in my heart...I know it's cancer...that's why it's taking so long...it's been hours, Reisha. Hours and hours," Anna said slowly and in a mellow tone.

Reisha gasped. Sitting down beside Anna she just hugged her. "I can't believe it," she whispered. "I knew his mother had.... But I had no idea that Jun was at risk."

Anna didn't hug Reisha back. She just let her hug her. "I didn't know his mother had cancer. I thought she died in a car crash," Anna said.

Reisha nodded. "She did, but it was because she had a tumor. She blacked out at the wheel and crashed."

Anna pulled back from Reisha. Her eyes fell on the door again. Waiting for something, anything. Just news, any news would ease her...or break her...

"I see," she whispered. She and Jun were more alike than she knew. Both loved ones had cancer, but neither of the actually died from it. Of course Reisha didn't know about Adam so she wouldn't know how Anna could relate.

Reisha took Anna's hand. "He'll be fine, Anna. We both know that Jun's too stubborn to die. He's survived everything just to be with you. I know he'll survive this just so he can see his child."

Anna took her hand from Reisha. She didn't understand. She didn't get it. Why was everyone trying to make it seem ok? Nothing was ok! Jun was in surgery and she was stuck in a waiting room with no one telling her anything. She stood.

"Someone tell me what the hell is going on with my husband!" she screamed. "I've been waiting for seven fucking hours!"

A nurse looked over at her. "Ma'am, your husband is Jun Hisaragi, correct?" The way her lips were pursed wasn't a sign of confidence in what she had to tell Anna.

Anna glanced at the nurse. It was about fucking time. "Yes..."

"Please, come this way," she told her. As Anna followed her back to the critical care unit, she looked at her board. "There were some...complications during surgery."

Anna stiffened. "Complications? What...what kind of complications?"
