Mami is a Mess
Toshiki went back to work after the holidays. He was at his desk
when the phone.
“Hello?” he asked.
“She's here again,” Don said.
“Oh,” Toshiki said. “What should I do?”
“Don't let her near my office,” Don whispered. The veteran frowned.
Oh great. Just great.
“So I have to deal with her today?” Toshiki asked.
“Good luck,” his boss said. Don hung up before he could say a word.
The veteran stared at his phone. He couldn't be serious. Was he
really going to have to deal with her?
“Helloooo!”
Toshiki jerked his head upward. A woman with messy hair stood in
the doorway. She waved at the veteran. Oh boy…
Toshiki forced himself to smile.
“Good morning!” he said. The woman walked up to his desk.
“Is Don in?” she asked. Toshiki glanced up at her.
“Hello, Mami,” he said. He only glanced up at her once before
looking at the computer screen in front of him. The woman leaned in
closer.
“Is Don here?” she asked again.
“Yes,” the veteran said. “What do you need?” Mami pouted at
him.
“I want to see him,” she wailed. Toshiki sighed.
“What do you need?” he asked again. Must they do this every time?
Can't she take a hint? Mami started to get frustrated.
“I want to see Don! I want to see Don!” she complained. Toshiki
rubbed his forehead. He didn't need this today.
Nope.
“Look,” Toshiki said. “If you don't need anything, please leave.”
Mami slapped her hand down on the desk.
“I do need something! I need Don! Bring him out here!” she shouted.
By now, people were staring at them. Why won't she go away? Maybe
he could tell her the truth?
“He's busy,” Toshiki said. “I'm sorry.” Mami snorted.
“How long will it take?” she asked. The veteran closed his
eyes.
“I don't know,” he said. Why does he bother? What was with this
woman? This was stalker behavior. He looked over at his phone. So
tempting…
Mami turned and walked to three chairs against the wall.
“Fine!” she said with a huff. “I'll just wait for him!” She flopped
down in the middle chair and crossed her legs. She folded her arms
across her chest. Toshiki had a nervous look on his face.
“Yeah, uh-huh,” he said, nodding. “Good luck with that.” The pale
woman looked up with an eyebrow raised.
“What did you say?” she asked.
“Nothing,” Toshiki said. “Nothing.” Mami snorted but said nothing.
This was going to be another long day with her, wasn't it? Toshiki
dropped his head. Why didn't I just tell her the
truth?!
Mami sat staring at him. No, glaring at him the whole time.
