“Ok, let's see now. Here for two nights and I would have been dead by now if I had been wandering around in the woods for over a week. As such I have not been gone for two weeks. One at the most but not two,” Sean states calmly.
“Sean, today is the 14th of October, you disappeared on the 30th of September. Two days after your nineteenth birthday and the day before you where supposed to meet me,” replies Alice just as calmly.
Sean looks at her with a frown, after a moment of thought, he says firmly, “No, today would be either the 5th or 6th of October.”
Meanwhile, Zal has picked up the remains of his shirt and with a shrug tossed it over his shoulder, before going to drag the vampire corpse back into the clearing for the sun to handle later. Keeping one eye and ear tuned to his master he lets his other senses explore the surrounding area.
“Zalfor, tell this stubborn fool that today is the 14th,” Alice demands while trying to stare down Sean.
Without bothering to turn around and look at her, he says “Today is either the 5th or 6th of October.”
She spins around on him, screaming “Don't you dare give in to his delusions,” her words trail off as she gets a glimpse at his back as he turns to face her.
With a short bark of laughter, “Delusions? Do not dare be the one complaining about delusions when you have not even acknowledged what…” before he can finish his words she is behind him holding his wings out of the way to examine his back. He stiffens at the touch of her hands on him, he turns his head at the soft growl he hears from Sean trying to judge his reaction as Alice speaks up behind him.
She grips his wings tightly forcing him to his knees, not paying attention to the sounds coming from Sean. “So your master decided to claim you even in this fashion. Judging by these marks it must have hurt like a bitch. I really must meet this Demon of yours, Zalfor.”
“Alice,” he grits out between his teeth, “you really need to let me go.”
“Why?” She demands, as she jerks down on his wings causing him to gasps out in pain.
He grits out, “Because the master is trying not to kill you right now. Personally, I would be overjoyed if you were dead but for two things. One, I do not want to be here on my knees between you and him when he attacks and two, he seems to think you are family.”
She looks up to see Sean couched a few feet before her, fingers clawing into the ground, fangs bared as his amber gaze glares at her though blood red eyes.
“What happened to him? His demon blood should have been to diluted to with human for this to have happened.” As she slowly releases him and steps back.
He stands up, stretching his wings before folding them down and into his back. He looks at over his shoulder as he slowly walks to Sean his hand offered forward. “You still refuse to see. What you see before you is a vampire whose demon blood was forcibly awakened during the conversion.” With a glare at her, as Sean sinks his fangs into his wrist, “A amber-eyed vampire.”
She sits on the ground with a thump as she watches Sean drink, “What happened?”
“Beyond him being chased here by vampires, turning into a vampire and having his demon blood awoken, I do not know. His mind has been a jumbled mess for the most part. For as calm as he has been acting his mind has been in turmoil.” He slips to his knees next to Sean while trying to take his wrist back. “Master, you need to stop.” Zal tries to pull his wrist away from Sean and is rewarded with a growl and a shake of the head, tearing the flesh of his wrist. Sean release the wrist just long enough to bite though his own tongue before clamping back down on Zal's wrist.
Zal hisses at the burning sensation in his wrist as their blood mingles in the wound. He glares over at “Cousin Alice”, snarling he growls out, “His bloody instincts are in working order as you can bloody well see, and because of your bloody curse I can not fight him.”
The next thing Zal knew he's been shoved to the ground and Sean was straddling him, his wounded wrist trapped between his side and Sean knee. Zal's eyes widen as he senses his master's intentions. He struggles to get out from under Sean, “No, Master, you can not do this. You must not…” his lips still with the touch of the silver knife. He stares into Sean's blank eyes as the knife slowly slices though his lip. Sean leans forward, his eyes locked on Zal's, until the width of the knife is the only thing between them. Zal's free hand is pinned to the ground above his head with Sean's other hand. With a sudden violent twist of the knife, their lips left bleeding, it is slammed home into the earth though Zal's hand pinning it to the ground.
Zal gasps from the sudden pain, Sean slams their mouths together with a sudden clatter of teeth, letting Zal's mouth fill with their mingled blood. Zal swallows once, twice and a third time before Sean collapses on him.
After a moment Zal looks up, shifting to reach for the knife, when Sean tightens his grip around him preventing him from moving. He catches movement out of the corner of his eye, turns his head to see Alice standing up.
“There's more to this then instinct, this is a ritual that hasn't been used in centuries. In fact I don't think any of the demons under 1000 have even heard of this much less know how to use it. To use bone, silver and earth as the binding elements is unusual. I've only read about this, in fact, this ritual is what I based parts of your curse on. If he completes this ritual there are several different outcomes only one of which has a happy outcome for you. One, you both die. Two, you die and he goes insane. Three, the ritual and the curse cancel each other out. Four, the ritual strengthens the curse. Five, the curse is overwhelmed by the ritual leaving the ritual in place, or six, the curse overwhelms the ritual leaving the curse in place.” She circles around them, eyeing the knife, wondering where Sean had gotten it. “The knife where did it come from? How many times has he used it on you? How many times has he fed from you? How many times have you fed from him? How many times has the blood been mingled? You said he's only been here two nights? That's good that means we have three to four nights to make sure he survives the ritual alive and with his sanity intact, or at least as intact as it is now.”
He watches her, wearily, listening to her ramble on. “Do you think you could remove this knife?”
“Answer my questions first, depending on your answers will depend on what I can do.”
He looks at her, tugging on his knifed hand, wishing it was his fingers wrapped around her neck, “Human, twice, three times, none, once, yes.”
“None? What was that just now then? Didn't you just feed from him?”
He looks at her in exasperation; “You know what I am. You know full well blood is not my source of food. Yes, it can keep me alive for short periods of time but it does not fulfill me.”
“Alright fine then how many blood exchanges have there been?”
“Two,” he states.
“Both of those tonight?”
“Yes.”
“Well here's some news for you. I think you are in for another blood exchange tonight, but it should be the last one until tomorrow. You will have to feed during this last blood exchange, you won't make it though five nights of exchanges if you don't.” She says as she squats done close to the knife to take a look at it.
“I can not feed off of him in this state.” He replies.
“You're going to have to figure out a way to do so. I don't think you will survive a fourth feeding if you don't. Not even sure you will have enough energy to even try feeding during the fourth exchange. You die and he might as well, one way or the other. As soon as he wakes we need to get you two someplace safe and away from the sun.” She reaches out toward the knife with her eyes on Sean to watch for any signs of awareness. She snatches her hand back just as Sean's nails dig a furrow in the earth next to Zal's hand causing him to jerk, and his in pain. Sean settles over Zal, facing Alice with blank eyes and bared fangs.
“Zalfor, I'm not going to be able to touch that knife, but now that your other hand is free you try. He may let you remove it now. We need to get moving dawn is only a few hours away.”
“Tell us where you want us and I'll get the master there. But first tell me why he is so important to you that you would work to save my life?”
