Between Dates chapter 4
Seiji lead Touma down the hardwood lined halls toward the private practice room. It took every thing he had not to grin like an idiot as he did. /He loves me… He really does. /
Stopping in front of the surprisingly open door Seiji glanced around and smiled inwardly as he noticed his cousin wasn't present.
"No one is here?" Touma half questioned his eyes roaming the room. Taking a step or two Touma stood beside him regarding the room with curiosity and amazement. "I've never seen this many swords in one place."
"Yeah it's the Date family collection some of these swords are over twelve generations old years."
"Twelve, really?"
"Yes. That large one over there with the dragon hilt is even rumor to have been used by the one eye dragon himself." Touma face lit up at the concept as he scurried
over to it trying to get a better look, he raised his hand to the blade running his index finger along the length of the silver blade without touching it.
"It's still sharp."
"Yes, very. Grandfather insists that all of these swords be sharpened and ready to use." Touma raised and eyebrow at that but didn't say a word.
"So, what now?"
"Well since Mokotu's not here want to spar a little?"
"Spar…?" Touma questioned as though the two of them had never sparred with swords before.
"Yes, spar," Seiji raised the kendo sword he held in his left hand posing to attack,
a playful smirk on his face. Touma pouted, an extremely cute expression, before he dropped down cross legged tracking circles on the floor.
"Why you always win?"
"Not always, beside I'll go easy on you." Even as the words slipped out Touma dove forward taking Seiji completely of guard.
"Cheater," the blonde gasped as the younger boy tackled him. Grabbing the sword Touma shoulder rolled to the side pulling the swords away with him. The unarmed swordsman simply laid there look through his bangs at Touma who slowly stood brandishing the sword.
"Ok sure."
"Brat."
"Hey, I don't have the Date training so I have to take my opportunities where I can."
"I see, if that's the way you want to play it," Standing Seiji strolled to the other side of the room picking out one of the bamboo swords from the rack by the door.
Turn he swung the sword through the air, the swipe cutting through the air create a swoosh, that had Touma taking a step back; the sword held with two hands in the basic kendo stance Seiji had taught him.
"I won't hurt you." Seiji said simply and Touma nodded quickly his face was very serious at least for second before he broke into a smile, charging the blonde. Focusing Seiji side stepped blocking Touma's strike and countering with one of his own the bamboo blade flew full force at Touma's back but Seiji pulled it at the last second merrily 'tapping' Touma. The archer stumbled but spun around not deterred.
"I just split your spinal cord."
"And…" Leaping up Touma came crashing down at Seiji in a rather cool yet,
foolish move his sword missing Seiji by about three feet as it slammed into the floor, but much to his surprise Touma darted forward jabbing his swords at Seiji in a more fencing like style. Blocking the blonde found himself completely on the defense Touma smiling all the while. /I really should get him into Kendo or at less some type of sword art.
"Me, kendo!? No thanks Sagey, I'd never last." /
Touma onslaught stopped and Seiji started in but it was a trick as he jabbed one more time the sword in Touma's hand meeting Seiji's side.
"Point!"
Touma froze his head turning to look pass Seiji to the owner of the voice.
The blonde though didn't need to; he knew exactly who it was. /Mokotu./
"Wow you're not bad for an amateur," his cousin said. Seiji sighed turning to meet the smug gaze of his cousin who was leaning against the doorframe in a white gi top with red kendo pants.
"Thanks I guess. I'm…"
"Seiji-san friends right, I'm Sani Mokotu."
"He has a name." Seiji muttered, straightening himself. "Hashiba Touma this is my cousin."
"Nice to meet you." Touma bowed slightly, but did receive one in return as Mokotu studied him.
"So you're one of the friends Seiji-san been staying with."
"That's right." Seiji could hear the caution in the other trooper's voice.
"Funny." Mokotu smiled as sincerely as a serpent and opened his mouth to hiss something else before the door on the other side of the room slid opened, Seiji's father staring at them his arms crossed.
"What going on here?" His voice was even as his dark brown eyes scanned over the three young men.
"I was just watching Seiji and his friend spar a little," Mokotu said innocently. Not mentioning that he just arrived himself. / Little snot./
"Perhaps I didn't make it clear enough for you Seiji. When I said alone I meant without distractions." Seiji only stared at his father for a moment before open his mouth to object, but Touma beat him to it.
"I'm very sorry Sir. I wasn't thinking." He stepped pass Seiji bowing as he handed his sword back to him. The blonde simply stared at the bamboo weapon. /Wait Touma don't go./ He wanted to say it, but something held him back.
"Take the sword," the older man said obviously irritated at his son behavior. Mokotu strolled over taking the sword saying.
"It was nice meeting you, Touma." It was a dismissing if Touma ever heard one.
"Likewise." Again Touma turned from the younger boy to Seiji's father, "I am sorry. I'll see you at dinner, Seiji." With that his blue haired angel was gone, three gaze staring after him. His cousin nudged him mouthing, 'cute ass'.
Seiji's blinked not sure if he'd got it right but when the shorter boy winked Seiji knew he wasn't mistaken. /What the hell does he mean? He better not…/ The blonde's seething were cut off by his father.
"Seiji." Looking passed the dark haired kendo boy Seiji saw his father wait for him with a rather impatient look.
Once Seiji had joined him in the hall the door was slid shut and the banter began.
"That was very rude of you father, and that was the second time. Touma's a guest and…"
"I will not allow anything to distract you now. We've only got three weeks left and that just the beginning. I'm allowing Hashiba to be here only because your mother insisted, but if he causes any problems I'll have him ship right back to Toyama. Do you understand?"
The blonde nodded not giving away anything, especial not how bad the thought of being separated from Touma again. /What the hell is his problem anyway?/
"Yes, sir."
"Good then, back to work and since it has taken so long to get started you two will practice until 6:35." /Does he know something…?/
Seiji regarded the man as he had since he was seven years old, with a cold, emotionless… "Yes, sir." /No, Touma would already be gone if he even suspected./
******************************************************
The wind brushed like fingers through his hair as the lone archer made his way down the path he'd taken with Seiji less than an hour ago. /He hates me already. So much for a good first impression./
Not that Touma could blame the man after all; he didn't actually look the part of a proper Japanese youth, one worth of even being friend with the Date heir. /I know I make horrible first impressions why did I think Seiji's dad would be any different. Well at least Satsuki and Mrs. Date seem to like me./ Sighing Touma glanced up at his surrounding marveling at the thick green trees shimmer in the wind. Shoving his hands into his jean pockets Touma paused not really in a hurry to get back to the guest house.
"Damnit I forgot the key." He suddenly remembered slapping himself on the forehead. /And I can't go back./ He cast a longing glance back in the dojo's direction as rustling unrelated to the winds caught his ears. Glancing to the left Touma's eyes widened at the figure emerging from the foliage. He felt himself mouth 'wow' as the long dark hair figure stepped forward a wooden bow ken in one hand a bamboo sword in the other. As their eyes finally met the heavens paused in their breath, stilling the trees as sun kissed brown meet starry blue.
The girl or rather woman stared back at him an amused look on her face.
"Hello Tenku."
/Tenku…?!/
"I'm Date Yayoi it is nice to meet you."
/Yayoi…?! This is Yayoi./ Touma could tell his mouth was opened but he couldn't close it nor could he speak. The paused in the breeze choose that moment to break the tree tremble almost violently around them. The shadow shimmering in and out of existence change shape before one could be determined.
"I'm sorry…" The rest of the sentence died on his tongue, but the woman only smiled her complexion the same perfect shade as her brothers.
"You are the bearer of Tenku, are you not?"
He nodded.
"I'm a Date remember. I could tell the instant I saw you." She continued to smile sincerely at him taking careful stride toward him. "So are you heading back to the house?"
"Hai." /Finally Touma, geez get a grip./
"Mind if I walk back with you?"
/Yes!/
"No, that's fine." She smiled again and then turned taking a few stepped down the path before looking over her shoulder at him long dark hair billowing behind her. /Kami who would have thought… thought she'd be this beautiful. The way Seiji away talked about her I guess I always just assumed she'd be ugly./
"Are you coming?" /Still that smile, god she's gorgeous./
"Yeah."
********************************************************
/I beat the shit out of him./ Seiji thought gleefully as he opened the gate quietly stepping into the yard. /Motoku won't be able to sleep on his back for a week at least./ Seiji smile grew as he remembered the resounding crack sound his sword had made against his cousin back among other places. /That will show that little snot! Keep your pervert little ideas to yourself and away from my Touma./
Perched like a statue upon a large rock his little koi waited; the over hang cherry tree's limbs reaching toward him like haunting fingers. Posed in the classic thinker's position Touma watched the large fish splash about in the pond before him. His blue hair gave the entire scene a whimsical atmosphere that made the blonde freeze, taking it all in. /God, he's amazing. /
So entranced was Seiji that it took him a second to realize that he'd been spotted.
"Hey!" The smile that accompanied that voice was noticeably distracted.
"Hi." The two troopers made their way toward one another meeting just at the edge of the pond where it met the stone walking way leading to the guest house.
"How was practice?"
"Fine, listen I'm sorry about my father, he had no right to do that to you. I'll talk with him." Touma simply shook his head.
"He's right you know. I want you to win as much as he does and if my being-." Seiji cut him off quickly wishing that he could pull him into his arm or at least cup his cheek.
"No you're not a distraction in fact I was on today. Everyone including my father noticed. Grandfather even commented on it when he stopped by to watch."
"Really," Touma visibly relaxed, but looked away back to the pond before continuing with, "Are you sure, because if my staying here is going to be a problem then I'll get on the next tr-."
"Don't even think about it." He watched the younger boy's look back up to him his eye beaming with happiness. The urge to kiss him was suddenly much stronger and Seiji found himself fighting it back. "Let's… let's go inside."
"Yeah." Touma nodded obviously recognizing the look Seiji knew he had.
Seiji unlocked the door quickly Touma following him in. /Quick check of the house and…/
"Oh geez sorry Tou, I forgot to give you the key before I left, that's why you where waiting out there. I completely forg-" Seiji turn the corner after check down the hall only to be meet by Touma's lips. "Mmm."
They pulled apart after a few breathtaking seconds. "You're forgiven." Instantly they fell into another kiss. Wrapping his arms around the slightly smaller archer Seiji maneuvered them into his room to the right. Touma pulled away gracing his face with small peck before dropping to his jaw and neck.
"You took a shower," Touma noted in between kissing and sucking on the other's neck.
"Yes," Seiji replied finally sliding the door closed. The second it was shut Seiji dipped down kissing Touma full force on the lip. The archer's mouth opened to Seiji's as the swordsman half carried them across the spotless room to the bed.
"Hey, what are you, uph!" Dumping his love on the bed Seiji chuckled.
"What do you think?" Seiji replied seductively as he leaned forward, Touma scooting backward and unease yet welcoming look in his blue eyes. /Still nervous. Yet undeniably interested./ Touma's back hit the wall and the look on his face was priceless; pinked stain cheeks speaking volumes.
"That's right no escape," he chuckled as he leaned in lightly brushing his lips against Touma's; a light moan seeped from Touma's mouth.
Seiji pulled away staring into glass blue orbs allowing his koi to make the next move. /What will it be Touma? I won't go another further until you do./ Touma seemed to hear his unspoken question and he left no guess work in his answer. Hands swept blonde hair from Seiji left eye as lips pressed against his forehead. Seiji move closer wrapping his arms around Touma's waist as his eyes closed. He felt the others lips move across his face slowly as strong archery strengthened hands move from his face to the front of his shirt. Slowly Touma fingers began to undue the buttons of shirt white dress shirt. The process was slow as lips continued their tour around his face. /I wish I were still wearing the gi./ As the last button was undone Touma captured Seiji lips sucking gentle on his bottom lip before going lower. The blonde sighed contently before hissing as lips moved from collar bone to chest and finally nips.
"That's feels terrific Touma," the blonde encouraged. Touma lean back looking up at him shyly through blue bangs he opened his mouth to reply when a rather loud and startling ring filled the house.
Seiji held back the urge to jump as he realized it was the phone Touma however pulled back banging his head on the wall behind him.
Slapping his hand to his lip Seiji tried to block the laugh while asking, "A..are you ok?" Another ring filled the house as Touma rubbed the back of his head before frowning at the snickering blonde.
"Fine." The phone rung again and Seiji cast a glare at it before standing to go answer it. Grabbing the antique looking phone Seiji answered.
"Konichiwa Date residence guest house, Seiji speaking."
"Oh hi dear, it's me. I was just calling to tell you that dinners is ready, is Touma there?" Seiji's mom asked her smile carrying through her voice.
"Yes, he's here somewhere?"
"Good make sure to bring him, Ja ne."
"Ja."
He replaced the receiver and turned to look at Touma who was watching him.
"Dinner time." Seiji motioned to the phone before strolling back over to Touma his shirt swaying as he walked. "Though I'd rather stay here and finish what we started."
The boy beside him blushed looking away.
"Yeah?"
"Yeah." Seiji nodded grabbing the blushing Tenku and pulling him into his lap. He kissed the side of his face and the traced Touma's ear with his tongue loving the shiver his actions caused.
"Seiji…"
"Yes?"
"Di..nner,"
"Yep."
*****************************************
Seiji closed and locked the door behind them as Touma tried to fight the blush that kept coming to his cheeks when he looked at the blonde. /Damn it, I can't go to dinner like this./
"Are you sure I look alright?" he questioned as soon as Seiji turned from locking the door.
"Yes, I won't let you go if you didn't. But…" Seiji leaned in closer, "You got to stop blushing, it is cute, too cute and you might make me take you right there."
"Seiji!" Touma gasped punching the blonde none too gently in the arm.
"Just kidding, geez. Come on they're probably waiting on us."
"Then we better hurry or your father will think it was my fault we're late."
"Don't worry about."
"I have to say I was surprised to meet your father I always thought you were a gajin." Seiji frowned making Touma regret his confession. "Sorry, I didn't mean-"
"No don't worry about in fact a lot of people do, they think that my mom cheated on my dad and even my family thought so for a time, until of course the armor orb appeared. Of course we can't tell anybody about that, so lots of people still think she did."
"Sorry,"
"Don't be it was logically to assume that, I bet you were surprised to see Satsuki too."
"Yeah and Yayoi, of course by then the shock had worn off and I realized your hair color must be from Korin.
"You met Yayoi?" There was uneasiness in Seiji's voice.
"Yeah," Touma said wryly, he knew how the blonde felt about his sister.
"I see." Silence remained until they reached the house before Seiji asked. "Do all the guys think my father's a blonde?"
"Yeah, they'll be shocked."
Seiji laugh quietly as they entered, "To think you guys thought my grandfather would allow his only daughter to marry an American."
Touma grabbed Seiji's shoulder halting him. As he whispered, "And this is the man we're suppose to convince that this relationship is ok?"
Seiji pale slightly before nodding.
"Just checking." /God, I'm dead. That why he keeps all those swords sharp./
True to his word when the reached the dinning room the others were waiting but not for them.
"Good, now we're just missing Yayoi." Around the traditional table set the family he'd meet so far plus another young man. He looked a little bit older then them his hair dyed a dark red almost, maroon; deep brown eyes watching him. Touma kept he mouth shut not wanting to draw any attention upon himself unfortunately Seiji cousin did.
"Where is she anyway?" Mr. Date questioned.
"Her job probably, she stays late now and then." /Job? But I just saw her./ Seiji had told Touma Yayoi quit kendo, so why the swords?
"But never quite this late." Mrs. Date injected as she set down a platter of tempura on the table. The well cooked shrimp smelled heavenly as it mixed with the other sea food type smells. /Good thing Shin's not here. He'd have a fit?/
"I'm sorry Hashiba-san I don't think you've met Torin yeah. Hashiba Touma this is Senaye Torin my cousin and Torin this is Hashiba Touma Seiji's friend." They bowed to one another from across the table.
"Nice to meet you."
"Likewise," the other guy responded. "That an interesting hair color, it looks almost natural. Where'd you get it done?"
Touma glanced at Seiji and then back to Torin.
"Actually it's natural, weird I know." The guy raised an un-dyed eyebrow to this.
"Funny, you and Seiji having naturally unnaturally hair colors." Torin pointed out.
Seiji opened his mouth to make a reply but his younger sister cut him off.
"I think it's cool."
"You're one to talk, Torin," a familiar voice cut in. Touma glanced to the left to see the Yayoi step into the room. Catching a frown from his koi who was sitting to his left Touma watched as she set across from him between Satsuki and Torin. With the odd number of people the table looked unbalanced, Mr. Date at one end and Elder Date at the other.
"Thank you for finally joining us, granddaughter."
"I am sorry work kept me later than usual," Yayoi bowed to her family while at the same time casting a casual yet meaningful look Touma's way. "I see we have another guest."
"Yes, Yayoi this is Hashiba Touma, one of the friends Seiji has been staying with and Touma-san this is Yayoi our eldest child."
"It's very nice to finally meet you Hashiba-san." She bowed again her eyes holding that Seiji like stare.
/What the hell's going on? This is the same woman from earlier, right? Why she…?/ The archer felt the eyes on him and quickly remembered his manners bowing.
"Yes it is nice to meet you too, Yayoi-san." The woman seemed pleased but Seiji was quite the opposite.
"Well now that that is settled let's eat." Mrs. Date announced and every one quietly followed orders. The majored of the meal was spent in silence and the occasional small talk. Mokuto asked if Torin could stay the night there and the Dates didn't object.
Little questions were thrown Touma's way, mainly related to the other friends Seiji lived with. Mokuto seemed especial interest while Torin... /God I wish he'd stop looking at me. I already have Mr. Date staring a hole in me; when no one's looking but at least I know why he's staring… He hates me./
"Are you ok?" Seiji whispered. Touma nodded his respond taking another sip of Miso soup.
"So Touma-san where are you from?" Yayoi asked glancing causal at him over the table.
"Osaka."
"Do your parents still live there?" She continued.
"My dad does but my mom lives in Tokyo last I heard from her."
"Your parents are divorced?" Mr. Date asked speaking to him for the first time since dinner started.
"Yes," Touma nodded warily not liking the frowns that creased his face.
"How long?" Elder Date asked the table becoming instant quiet.
"Touma's parents have been divorced since he was about six." Seiji spoke up sensing Touma uneasiness. It wasn't so much the question as the looks everyone was giving him.
"I see." The silence hung in the air for few minute before Mokuto announced he and Torin where leaving. Slowly the rest of the family filed out. /Thank god, it is over./
"Come on Tou." Seiji motioned for the back door.
***********************************
"So what do you think," Yoshi asked his daughter and his son in law as the maid, Syslia came in to clean up dinner.
"I think he's perfect," His daughter smiled gentle as she glanced back at the retreating forms. "What about you dear?" She inquired when her husband didn't answer but the look on his face spoke for itself.
"He has yet to impress me." With that the mid-aged man turned marching from the room his foot step echoing loudly.
"He'll get use to it," she nodded staring after him for a minute before turning back to her father. "And you, father, what do you think of Hashiba-san."
"Seiji is happy, that is all that truly matters, is it not?"
"Yes, of course." She grinned now her happiness making him smile along with her. "I should have known you'd feel that way."
/Yes, for now my grandson is happy. And as long as he continues to be so… I will approve./ But Yoshi was disappointed. /He doesn't trust us his family well enough to tell us./
***********************************
Seiji had been quiet since dinner and during their evening stroll he'd said less then three words which was a record by Touma's count. /He must be really upset about something./ Touma settled on the couch turning on the TV. There were loads of shows on but Touma wasn't really interest instead his thoughts stay with the swordsman. /Was it the question about his parent or was it Yayoi?/ Touma paused in his channel surf as he considered the question. /Yayoi, definitely./
*************************************
There was a soft tapping sound against his door before it slid opened, Touma timidly pocked his head in. Seiji smiled slightly from the floor his body posed in the lotus position.
"Come in, Tou." Seiji said before his love could ask.
Touma looked hesitantly over at him before walking over to sit on Seiji's bed.
"Seiji, are you, ok?"
"Yeah just thinking."
"About your sister?" Touma questioned again.
"Hai, she's up to something; hiding something." Seiji said his mind replaying her smooth entrance at dinner.
Touma fidgeted and opened his mouth.
"I don't know Seiji maybe she came back to… pick something up."
"Don't make excuse for her, Tou. I mean if that were true why didn't she just say that?" He archer shrugged looking worst about this situation then Seiji did. "Listen, koi don't worry too much about it ok? I'll find out sooner or later." Seiji studies the other boy's face before stand and sitting beside him. /He almost looks guilty. Why? Does he think it's his fault./
"Touma it's not your fault ok?"
"What…"
"I'll stop worrying if you will?" Touma seemed to understand as he nodded and the conversion ended.
"So…" Touma began rubbing his hands together while glancing causally around the room. "We have the house to ourselves." It was more of invitation then a question and Seiji took no time in RSVP-ing. Yawning he stretched out his long arms before wrapping his left around Touma's shoulders. The latter giggled at Seiji's antic before turning to look at him. Leaning forward Touma kissed his love gently on the lips before wrapping his arms around the blonde's shoulders. The warrior of light pulled Touma onto his lap, strengthen the kiss. The archer moaned pulled his body closer to Seiji's. Hands clenched fabric and limbs as Seiji wondered just how far he could take this. /The guys are miles away, the doors are securely locked, windows covered… This could be a very… interesting night./
********************************************
"So it's set?"
"Of course, like I would have come back if it wasn't." Torin huffed, it hadn't been easy. Finding people who were willing to go up against Date Seiji, never was. But Seiji had plenty of enemies.
"Good this will be great."
"Yeah I suppose. I still don't understand the reason for this."
"I just want to make sure."
"Make sure what?" His cousin had dizzying intellectual that always left Torin in dark as to younger boy's motives.
"Make sure he's really the one… The one to have my Seiji."
"Your Seiji…?"
"That's right," He looked back toward the guest house his eyes caught the lights, "my Seiji."
