Chapter Five: Falling into You

Part C: I Fall Into Dark Waters Deep

"I fall into dark waters deep/I pray me now so I may sleep."-- An original Poem

=====

I hate my work ethic. It needs to die and go to hell and take all its spawn with it and fucking stay there.

Dedicated to: absolutely no one.

How's that? Actually, I do feel like thanking a few people, but I'm in no mood for dedicating shit. In Other News: I sprained my ankle. And I'm working on this.

I reiterate: my work ethic needs to die and go to hell and take its spawn with it and fucking stay there.

=====

iii: I Spring Out of Dark Waters Deep

(who are you)(I am Nasumi, Seirene Class, family Yagiyuichi.)

She couldn't believe what the voice in her head was saying. (im nasuti yagiyu not nasumi yagiyuichi) (We are one and the same, dear.)

(but seiji what do i tell him) (Nothing, yet.)

Seiji rolled onto his side and looked her in the eyes. She couldn't bear to look at him

(tell him the truth make the water flow from his eyes make him want to die).

She ignored the other voice in her head. Nasumi's thoughts were almost pleasant but the other voice was like a radio in her mind. A radio with her voice, broadcasting thoughts that weren't hers. Images flashed behind her eyes, images of men she'd seduced and killed. The exotic Ashley Winchester had been the only one to survive and now he was one of them…red-headed Ashley Riot was immortal and the Master of the Dark to boot, she hadn't gone near him…blonde Zell Dincht…beautiful Squall Leonheart…Seiji's voice broke into her reverie.

"Nasuti, do you know what happened last night?"

(do i lie do i tell the truth do i refuse to answer) (Tell a little bit of the truth. Say you weren't yourself, which is true, and that you don't know how whatever happened, happened, which is also true.)

"Seiji, I don't understand. I thought I was controlling myself but…" (Nice one.)

(make him bleed) (Shut up.) (thank you)

"I don't either. What the hell kind of Siren are you?"

(it's time for your big speech) (No, it's YOUR big speech. So give it!)

She took a deep breath before speaking, "My actual name is Nasumi Yagiyuichi. I am of Seirene Class, ranked A."

iv. I Pray me Now

The words that flew out of her mouth sounded almost coarse when compared to the musical quality of Nasumi's voice. She wanted to take them back, tell him she'd not meant them. She could practically see the shimmering notes of her voice, read the words she'd spoken. That final "A" had been like the last beat of a heart, such finality had been in it. She knew without a doubt that those words could never be taken back.

"Class A?" He asked.

She hated the shocked look on his face. She expected him to cast a Muting Spell, or at least disfigure her for speaking to him.

"I'm sorry…" The words slipped out of her mouth against her will. She'd not wanted to say anything. And there she was, apologizing. Fated Ones had that habit. She was probably going to trip over her own tongue and land with her harp in her mouth.

(any minute now he'll snap and disfigure us) Nasumi's voice babbled about disfigurement and Muting and the like.

"Naa-ko, do you know?"

His question shocked all three people in her body. Nasuti was surprised he'd used a familiar term, whereas Nasumi was shocked he'd not threatened to kill her and the Other was simply shocked Nasuti hadn't killed him.

"I just found out this morning…"

"I'm not talking about your being a Siren, I'm talking about your having been missing for eight years."

"I have been what!"

"Missing for eight years."

"Two years before Arago," she said wonderingly.

(How could I not remember?)

"Yes. What do you remember?"

"Meeting Oji-san at the…at the harbor when I was…when I was seventeen."

"That as far back?"

"Yes." It was true. But she still couldn't understand…

"I need to report you. You've gone up two levels, grown more powerful and become pregnant since you left," Seiji said.

(NO!) Nasumi's voice screeched, (We can't let him! We mustn't go back! TELL him!)

(i am in agreement it would be bad to go back we could get hurt) The Other concurred.

"Seiji, I don't remember how or why I left, but it must have been for reason. Would you send me back to a place where I obviously didn't want to be?"

Seiji leaned back and sighed. Nasuti sensed some hint of affection from Nasumi.

(He's utterly adorable.) (Shut up, although I agree.) (quite beautiful) (Didn't I say shut up?)

"Naa-ko-"

"Don't call us that; it sounds like you're addressing only one of us."

Seiji raised an eyebrow. "Well, then, Nasuti, anything else you want to explain?"

"Umm….yes. Somehow, I grew another level in power last night and I splinched my brain trying to fight it…"

"You're stronger than an A rank." He said it skeptically and lowered his raised eyebrow to the point of narrowing the eye, in effect raising his other eyebrow off his forehead.

"Yes…but I splinched myself into the Siren's Tri and…ummmm……things get a little weird after that."

"One side has the memories of before, the other is you and the third?"

"Really cruel. I mean, NASTY…"

"I see. Damn, I feel like a fucking psychologist."

"You sound like one."

Seiji faked a sigh and pulled her close. "Fucking psychologist, eh?"

"Fucking Canadian, eh?"

He rolled his eyes and whispered a spell. The constant chatter of Nasumi and Other ceased. She was about to ask what he'd done when he told her that he'd 'unsplinched her.'

"Unsplinched me? Does that mean-?"

He nodded. He looked down at her, whispered something about 'utter sweetness' and kissed her on the top of her head. She smiled, nestled in, and went back to sleep.

v. Don't Let me Sleep (a)

She woke alone in her bed. A note lay on the dresser. She forced herself to stand and look at it.

"Gone to Demon Realm," she read aloud. "I may as well go." With that, she teleported to Ryoko's favorite café.

--10:04AM DRT--

Ryoko was there, as Nasuti had expected. Ryoko looked up and smiled.

"Nasuti, please, sit down!" Ryoko said.

Nasuti did so. She noticed a particularly strange looking woman sitting next to Ryoko. The woman had long white hair pulled back in a braid, cat-like ears and wore huge bells all over her. Ryoko realized her mistake.

"Nasuti, this is a friend of mine. She is a Ktarl-Ktarl, as I'm sure you've noticed."

"I'm Aisha Clan-clan!" The woman said. Nasuti noticed the odd accent. She sounded as if she were a talking cat.

"Hello Aisha Clan-clan. My name is Nasumi Yagiyuichi. I am of Seirene Class, ranked A positive one," Nasuti said.

Aisha's jaw dropped.

"Nasumi Yagiyuichi! I was sent by your family to look for you! You've been gone eight years!" Aisha said. Or, rather, mewled.

Nasuti shrugged, "I just found out this morning."

"That you were missing eight years?"

"Yes. I found out my name last night."

"I see. So you suffered amnesia? Interesting." Aisha said.

A waitress-a werewolf, Nasuti noted by the collar on the girl's neck- asked for her order. Nasuti ordered blue wine and sang de homois*. It was perhaps a minute before it arrived, coming through a shimmering blue portal. Nasuti took a sip of the bloody stew and nodded at the taste.

--11:10AM DRT--

A young woman who was obviously a Siren walked over. Nasuti looked the girl up and down. The girl had blue hair, silver eyes and ivory white skin.

"Seirene, would you sing?" The girl asked.

Nasuti glanced sideways at the girl. "No. Why should I?"

"It would please the owner, I suspect."

Nasuti allowed a sardonic smile, "Yes indeed. It would please him so much he would thrust his head into a pot of boiling water. There are several high ranking Daemons here. I would prefer them alive, well and plotting to overthrow MERMAID Corporation."

The girl blinked but said nothing. MERMAID Corporation was feared and hated throughout the Demon Realm. Even the Mermaids hated it and they had funded it.

"Are you going to stand there gawking or are you going to leave?" Demanded Ryoko.

The girl nodded and left. Just afterwards, Seiji stalked in, his face dark as a storm cloud. He spotted Nasuti and teleported to the table.

"Hello Ryoko, Aisha Clan-clan, Naa-ko," His voice was soft but Nasuti detected a hint of anger as he said Aisha's name. "I have spent the last three hours speaking with one of MERMAID's representatives. And have you an idea what she said?"

"Not the foggiest," Nasuti replied, "What did she say?"

"That I may be placed under Inquisition for Negligence and Failure to Report."

"WHAT!" Cried Ryoko.

Seiji's gaze was utterly dispassionate, though it was a façade, "You heard me."

"They would place a Fated One," Ryoko spoke in an undertone, "under Inquisition?"

"Yes, apparently," Seiji replied coolly.

"WHAT?! HOW! I mean, a Fated One is not subject to law that requires the reporting of anything!" Aisha mewled, "How can they place you under…under…"

"Because MERMAID is a corrupt bunch of asswholes who care only for themselves!" Ryoko said sourly. She eyed Aisha.

"I," Aisha pronounced, "was not sent by MERMAID. Nasumi's family sent me to find her."

"Please, call me Nasuti." Nasuti said.

"Well, Nasuti, then. But really Nasuti, the Yagiyuichi-ni would be glad to welcome you back." Replied Aisha.

"I don't particularly want to go back. I left for a reason." Nasuti replied testily.

"Nasuti, we could beat MERMAID at their own game." Ryoko said.

"Let's hear it."

"Alright then, here goes! I say you get someone to tell your family-and MERMAID- that you refuse to contact them or anyone within the Siren community until they and MERMAID agree to drop the charges against Seiji. Then milk them for why they're so interested. Once we have that, we can pounce."

"Pounce?"

"Place them under Jurisdiction. Say that you'll do something to hurt their business unless they agree to the Placement."

Seiji narrowed his eyes, "Sounds risky. And not only that, I can't think of anyone the Yagiyuichi-ni would trust. They aren't very trusting."

"Seiji, she's sitting with us," Nasuti said.

"Who?"

"Aisha Clan-clan!"

Aisha looked up from her Roasted Ryo-Ohki. "Me?"

"Yes you! My family hired you, right?"

"Yes…" Aisha drew the word out.

"Well, tell them you spoke to me and that I said I refused to contact them or MERMAID or anyone until they drop the charges against my fiancée."

Aisha nodded and stood, "I'd best be off."

Ryoko stood as well, "Nasuti, you need to find some place to stay in seclusion."

"Seiji's suite will suit me fine," Nasuti replied.

"No… That won't work," Seiji said.

"Why don't you stay with me?" Ryoko asked.

"Alright." Nasuti agreed. She teleported after Ryoko.

vi. Don't Let me Sleep (b)

-- 10:00PM DRT--

"We have reports that the long lost Yagiyuichi heiress has been found," A WyrdCaster reported from her WyrdStone. "She has, apparently, refused to go anywhere near anyone until the Yagiyuichi-ni drop the charges against her fiancée, Fated One Date Seiji."

Ryoko grumbled and overturned the WyrdStone. "Damn WyrdCasters. Constantly telling only half the story…"

"Shhh," Nasuti hissed, "I want to listen…"

"This just in! Aisha Clan-clan, a Ktarl-Ktarl Elite Tracker, has made another comment in Nasumi's name!" The WyrdCaster said. The WyrdStone flickered to an image of Aisha.

"MERMAID," Aisha proclaimed, "Nasumi sent me to ask why you seek to place blame where there is none."

Nasuti smiled, "Right on time."

-- Public Conference between Aisha Clan-clan and MERMAID--

"She does not understand why you would place a Fated One under Inquisition for an offense no Fated One can commit. For is it not given to the Fated One to decide whether or not something earns the merit of an investigation? Nasumi is the Daemon's fiancée, so surely emotion for her had some part in his actions? They were rash, he admits, but he had so little time to find out. She did not tell him, and thus blame could be placed there."

"You raise interesting questions," a reporter said.

Aisha ignored him, "Why, oh Daemons, are you not outraged that one of your own-and a Fated One, no less! - Would be placed under Inquisition? Why, oh Sirens, are you not outraged at the corruptness of MERMAID?"

--Ryoko's Home--

"She's got a point," Ryoko said. "I have a hard time believing that you wrote that yourself."

"Sirens can be eloquent when it suits them." Replied Nasuti. She curled into a ball and sighed. Seiji was forbidden from visiting her, even though she needed him. Aisha had speeches to make, seeds of doubt to plant…Ryoko could be her only company.

"Please, tell me about your daughter, Ryoko," Said Nasuti from her position on the floor, "What did she look like, what did she like to do, was she hard to raise?"

Ryoko stretched out on her couch. "Well, she was tall with silver-blonde hair. She had gleaming gold eyes and graceful white fangs. She still does, of course. She loved to fight and fly. I believe she fell in love with some Winglie named Lloyd. She wasn't too bad but he made my job harder. She eventually went off chasing after him and I haven't seen her since."

"Do you miss her?" Nasuti asked.

"Terribly. I keep expecting her to walk in the door, utterly glowing about her weekend with Lloyd. And," here Ryoko's voice broke, "it gets hard. It's so hard to wait for her even though I know she won't come back."

- - Conference- -

Rya listened to the gravelly voice of Aisha Clan-clan. Wow. She must really hate the corruption to want to DO something about it. She forced herself to speak, to sound like a WyrdCaster.

"Do you know where Nasumi is now?"

Aisha looked grave. "Yes, but I refuse to say."

"Could you set up an interview?" Rya asked.

"Nasumi said, quite clearly, that she would contact no one but me."

- - Ryoko's House- -

"Ryoko, that WyrdCaster looks like you!" Nasuti said.

"She is Rya, my daughter." Ryoko replied gravely.

"Wow. Maybe we could arrange a meeting between you two."

"Talk to Aisha."

"Would you like that, though?"

"Yes, very much."

Nasuti lay awake a long time, trying to sleep. And yet she knew that she couldn't. Or maybe she didn't want to? For if she slept, she would dream. And if she dreamt, she would remember. And remembering was not something she wanted right now.

=====

Wow. This was extremely, incredibly long. It was long like the wolf. The "Nasumi"/"Nasuti" thing will go away, unless it's one of Aisha's speeches. Yeah, I know, another crossover character?! Well, I happen to like Aisha. She's from Outlaw Star, which, if you haven't seen it, is an awesome anime that you need to watch. Right now, dammit! So, ummm…yeah. The plot appears…EEEPERS! 10:32PM! I should be in bed! Good night, folks…
