Chapter Thirteen: The Finale

[3:00PM, January 17, 1994]

"He introduced himself as Lord Obsidian," Lloyd said

quietly, "He was my second in command."

Seiji looked Lloyd in the eyes. "I killed your second-in command."

"No, you didn't. Obsidian had cast a spell so that if he died, my canyon would be defended by a darkness as thick as pea soup. That darkness was his soul."

"Shit. It fled…."

"But was not destroyed," Lloyd agreed.

Ryoko cut in, "So you're saying that it isn't gone?"

"No, it isn't. And it probably hates us."

"And Rya, what of her?" Nasuti asked. "Will she be safe?"

"She will be quite safe. In all honesty…" Lloyd began.

"It wasn't you." Seiji interjected. "I killed your third in command, not your second, because Obsidian imitated you."

"How did you know?" Lloyd's brow furrowed into a thin line.

"I knew because the energy wasn't right. He was draining your followers too heavily. And then when I struck him with the final blow… "

"But what about the Watcher?" Nasuti asked quietly.

"It was probably sent by Obsidian." Lloyd replied.

Seiji pushed back the lock of hair covering his right eye, narrowed both eyes in extreme concentration, and adopted an expression like that of a cat preparing to strike.

Lloyd narrowed his own eyes, frowned menacingly, and made sure that his sword was loose in its scabbard.

Touma continued, oblivious of the danger he was in, "Seiji, you can't just take her to the Daemon Realm and hide her. What about your jobs? What about check-ups, hospital stays, and all that? What about…"

Seiji slammed his fist down on the table. "I did not ask for an agreement or an argument. I did not ask for suggestions. Nasuti has already resigned. Everything will be fine."

Lloyd nodded his agreement. "Children take tending, Touma. It would be best if this child was born in the Daemon Realm. Seiji will better be able to protect it there."

Touma glowered but dropped the subject.
