Yokoi no Death and Rebirth
Chapter 1
He slipped his key card through the slot and was instantly rewarded with a blinking green light. Touma smiled putting the card back into his jeans as he quietly slipped through the door and into the small apartment. /God… It's been so long since I've stepped foot in here. /
Touma could feel his heart beating just a bit faster as he slid the door closed behind him with an almost inaudible click. Turning slowly he took in the room before him. The bright light of Tokyo filtering though the blinds, the faint sound of the frig humming along with the constant flicking of light from the TV left on in the living room only adding to his emotions. Nothing had changed, since he'd last been here. Taking in a shaky, nervous breath he slipped off his shoe not bothering with house slippers since the apartment was nice and warm. / You never did like the cold. /
Touma moved forward check the living and kitchen off to the left for the occupant of the apartment. After not spotting anyone Touma moved down the hall to the right stepping passed the office, second bathroom, and empty guest room before stopping at the closed door that lead to the master bedroom. It was only then that Touma realized how fast his heart was beating. It had gone from a rhythmic drum to some insane techno beat.
Sighing Touma tried to calm himself. He and Shu still hadn't decided whether or not they were going to tell their loved ones about the events of the pass year. As it stood now no one remembered, it was as if the entire thing never happened. All that anyone with the exception of Nasty remembered was the earthquake which from what they heard on television had been felt all over the world and it was blamed for the destruction center in Japan and more precisely Toyama. / An earth quake… / This despite the fact that three days where also missing a point seeming to be over looked by a major of the world. /368 days of hell and no one remembered a damn thing. But maybe it's better that way. / Touma sighed and mentally scolded himself for allowing his though to wander. Right now the only thing… only one Touma wanted to focus on was sleep on the other side of this door.
Slowly he entered the room his breath caught in his throat as he sighted the one he'd been dream of ever since this nightmare began.
Slowly he made his way to the bedside gazing down at the curled up figure clutching the fluffy, silver pillow. Touma closed his eyes taking in the sound of his loves breathing as everything around him faded away. Opening his eyes again he stretched out his hand running his fingers over the T-shirt clad body before him. His finger graced her back and over her shoulders as he leaned in closer for a kiss, his lips brushing her forehead.
“God, I've missed you koi.”
“Touma…” A soft moan slipped from her perfect full lips as clutched the pillow tighter. Touma couldn't help but smile. Gentle he lend over her, turning the sleeping figure toward him while detangling the pillow from her firm grasp. A whimper escaped as she tried in vain to keep the pillow in her arms.
“Shhh,” he whispered, “its ok.” Sitting on the bed he watched as her brow furrowed, pink lips parts in another whimper. Careful not to waking her though he was hoping just the opposite Touma lend in planting a kiss on her brow. /She's probably been worried. Even if she doesn't remember the last year we have been missing since the earthquake… since Arago's castle fell. On a little camping trip with Shu. That was the lie anyway and the Fauns had brought it. /
“Touma…?” He blinked pulling back from the kiss to look into sleepy brown eyes.
“Yes.”
“Oh god! Touma?!” Her eyes suddenly widen as if the realization had just struck her. She bolted up grasping him in a tight embrace that he gladly returned. After a beautiful eternity she pulled back staring into his eyes. She looked as though a thousand questions were swirling in her mind and she was trying to decide which one to pick. Finally Touma decided to end her torment.
“How have you been? I was really worried about you.” She continued to stare at him as her left hand rose to caress his face skin burn at her touch.
“I'm sorry… It's just... You've been gone so long and I guess seeing you so suddenly… here. I'm just…” She paused and looked away her hands started to drop from his face. Touma reached up hold it to his cheek before reach with his other hand to pull her gaze back to his. They stared at each other once again brown meeting blue.
“You're really here, aren't you?!” It was definitely a question and Touma instantly knew the best way to answer it. Leaning forward he pulled her lips toward his meeting in a gold moment. They stared at one another before her eyes slid closed her ridge body relaxing as he slid his hand around her neck slowly rubbing the tense away. Neither one made any effort to deepen the kiss, content with the simple reassurance that they were really together. Slowly they pulled apart as Touma slid his hand up and down her neck and shoulder.
“Yes Saya, I am.”

Seiji set in the lotus position staring blankly at the panel wall before him covered in proverbs. Shrines graced the walls around him along with family heirlooms.
Seiji tight his lips trying to force down the sigh which dared to escape his lips. /Dammit why can't I concentrate? / Seiji could think of nothing that should be troubling him. He'd had no trouble explaining the yokois or demons to his family since they believe for the most part in the legends, though they were a bit surprised to know that an entire year had passed since he'd left for Toymama. The entire family had been pleased with him and understood that he had to go back. In fact they had been so happy that they had give Seiji his father sports car; a beautiful black 1999 300ZX equipped with power every thing. /Boy, will the guys go nuts. I can hear them all. `Seiji is that yours,' that will be Shin, `Holy Shit,' Ryo's only response Shu will say, `god you'll never keep the girls away with a car like that' and Touma… Touma will say, `so you gonna take me for a ride.' Touma… No, no NO! Stop think about him. Dammit why is this happening to me. I've never… I'm not…/
Seiji sighed this time unable to keep it in.
“So grandson does the art of mediation not hold anymore value for a yokoi bearer,” at the voice Seiji instantly regarded not holding in the sigh.
“No of course not grandfather,” Seiji spin around to face him, “It just that, I just can't seem to concentrate this morning. /Because I'm to busy thinking about a blue hair archer. /
“I see,” The old man sighed his muscular arm clasped behind his back. His face was wrinkled with time and gravity, but other then that the old man body held a great deal of strength, his gi hanging neatly about his body. “Well I suppose that with all that's happened it would be a little hard to focus.”
Seiji only nodded in response. /What would you say if you knew the really reason I'm distracted. /
“Are all of your things packed?” Seiji again nodded.
“Yes I'm leaving at noon.”
“Good,” His Grandfather turned to leave, but then stopped clearing his throat. “And Seiji, I just wanted to tell you again just how proud we… I am of you.” With that he was gone disappearing from Seiji's sight.
“Grandfather…”

Shin set about making breakfast he'd only gotten in a few hours ago, but he found it impossible to sleep, so instead he decided to make breakfast for his slumbering family. Shin had decided almost instantly that he'd have to tell his family about the past year. He couldn't lie to them, but how exactly to break it to them, and how much should he tell; his mother wasn't in the best of health and the extra stress of worrying about him would only make things worst. Shin sighed as he pause looking out the window toward the sea which churned and tumble much like his insides.
As luck would have it his older sister and her husband where both staying there, why Shin wasn't quite sure but he bless the gods because this meant he'd only have to do this once.
Turning his attention back to the food Shin flipped the pancakes, while checking the hash brown in the even. Reaching to the side he opened the refrigerator looking about the door before catching sight of the eggs. He was just about to grab a couple when an unexpected squeak snatched his attention.
“Shin!!” he jerk from the door dropping the eggs in his hands as he slammed him head against the freezer handle.
“Oh great,” he winced as he reached up rubbing the sore spot on his head.
“Oh my gosh, Shin are you ok?” Shin suddenly remember what had distracted him and spin to the be greeted by the out stretched arms of his mother dress in a pink robe her red hair pulled back in a short braid as she wrapped her arms around him. Shin immediately did the same as he heard calls from the back of the house.
“Mom, are you ok? Is there…” his sister voice stopped short as she round the corner her green eyes finding the source of the commotion in the normal quite house. Shin felt a smile spread across his face as he stared at his sister while being held by his mother.
“I've missed you both so much.”
“Shin… I'm so glad you're alright.”
“Oh Shin!” His sister exclaimed as she joined the hug her husband just now arriving to watch the little reunite. /Now for the hard part. /
----------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------
Ryo stood over looking the forest and lake from his bedroom balcony. The house was so quite and lonely without the guys but Ryo just kept reminding himself that they'd all be back in a few days.
It had been against Ryo better judgment to let the other return to their families for a few days but how could refuse them. If he had a family he would have wanted to see them too. /But it's still too dangerous out their if Kayura and the Masho should decide to attack, we'd be easy to pick off spread out all across Japan./ Seiji the early riser had already called and to his and Nasty's shock he told them he'd be returning this evening.
“That's cool and calm Sagey for ya.”
“You know he'd probably give you the glare of death for calling him that.” It took every thing Ryo had not to jump at the sudden voice in his room, but Ryo manage and simply glance over his shoulder at her. The tall redheaded college student with the amazing green eyes smiled as their eyes met. Ryo instantly turned back around as his felt a blush rush to his cheeks.
“Yeah, he would.” Ryo could feel his heart beating madly in his chest as he felt her eyes on his bare back. /Dammit just her presence makes me nervous. /
“Well I just came to tell you that breakfast is down stairs and I'm going out to the university to pick up some more books. I'll be back later this afternoon.”
“Ok, have a safe drive.” Ryo squeaked out and wasn't sure but he might have heard Nasty giggle at it.
“I will and Ryo,” he could tell by the tone he was suppose to turn around. /Come on Ryo you can face her just relax. Slowly Ryo turned looking back to the stunning woman. “Don't worry they'll all be back soon.” Ryo smiled and nodded.
“I know, thanks Nasty-san.” She smiled in returned before closing the door. He listened for the front door and then car door before slumping onto the rail. /What is it about her? Why am I doing this to myself, she not interest, how could she be. I'm just a kid compared to her. The age difference alone is a huge gap not to mention the fact that she'd never, ever…/ Ryo huffed at his own foolishness as the sound of Nasty jeep faded into the distance.
“Well better go eat, I wonder where Byakuen is?”
----------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------
Breakfast was a noise affair as usually and Shu wouldn't have it any other way. His little brother and sister were busy feed themselves and being feed as Shu's mama split herself between cooking, serving and scolding. Shu's father was down stair readying the restaurant for business, and that was exactly where Shu was head after he snagged some breakfast.
“Shu, can you get Fai some rice?” His mother called and Shu was more then happy to help as that got him much closer to the food.
As predicted his family remember nothing of the past year, and showed little concern over his and Touma's late return. Though his mama wasn't to happy with the fact the Touma had not returned straight home from their “camping” trip.
After dishing out the rice Shu grabbed some for himself while dodge grubby hands and faces. He had just finished grabbing his food and was on his way down stairs to help his father when his mother called.
“Shu, when did he say he'd be home again?” This was the fifth time since his return home that his mother had asked this and Shu would have laughed out right if it wasn't for her tone of voice.
“He said he'd be here by noon.”
“Don't see why he had to go see her anyway.”
“Mama you know he care a lot about her and…”
“More then he does for his family,” she snapped. Shu sighed, before scratching the back of his head; he really didn't want to get into this right now. He just didn't understand why his mother acted this way about Saya. She was a nice girl, good grades, faithful, caring, rich and yet his mama just wouldn't give her a chance.
“Mama you know that not true. Besides Saya's alone here, he just wants to make sure she's ok.” He paused glancing at her from the corner of his eyes as she continued to cook. “Mama I just…”
Ring, ring.
“Damn,”
“Shu!”
“Ooooo! Shu cursed!” Shu ducked a wooden spoon tossed his away apologizing to his family before racing to get the phone.
“Hello Faun residents.”
“Shu?”
“Shin, hey how's it going?” Shu felt a smile spread ear to ear at the sound of his friend's voice.
“Fine and you…” Shu smile instantly faded as he heard Shin's tone.
“Shin?!”
“I'm fine really.”
“You're mom didn't take it well, did she?” Before leaving Nasty's Shin had mention that he was worried about telling his family because of his mom's health. /Hope she's ok. /
“No not really, she kind of fainted.”
“Fainted…!”
“Yeah, she's fine though, at least I hope so.”
“I'm sure she will be, just hang in there.” He could feel his friend relax just a bit.
“So how about you how did your family take it?”
“Haven't told them yet.” Shu answered while glance back to make sure no one was listening.
“Oh…”
“Yeah, Touma went to see Saya first, so will tell them when he gets here.”
“Oh of course, then…”
“Shu?! Who are you talking to, your papa needs you.” His mama called from the kitchen.
“Well you heard her,”
“Actually I didn't but I'm assuming you have to go.” Shin sighed on the other ended.
“Yeah, but I'll call ya later and Shin don't worry, she'll understand.”
“I hope so and good luck to you too.”
“Are you kidding me? Touma and I don't need luck. We have skilled.”
“Whatever Hardhead… I mean rock.”
“Sure catch ya later fishy.” With that Shu replaced the phone on the stand and held for the stairs, avoiding his mama so as not to get back in the Touma Saya discussion/argument again.
----------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------
The sun filter through the curtains warming her back as she pulled her pillow…/What the…/ Saya mind flicker for moment as she listen to the warm steady breathing just above her head. Her finger which normally clutched silk instead held cotton and jean. /Dream… It has to be a dream…/ Saya fought the urge to move. As an internally argument began within her. /Don't get your hopes up. How many times has this happen before? /
/Zero, sure you've dreamed about it, about holding him again, but it never felt like this. /
/So it's just a really realistic dream. The second I open my eyes he'll be gone. I know he will. /
/So what are you going to do just lay here forever? In a few minute that alarm of yours will go off and you'll... /
/So what that's just a few more minute I get to pretend, to dream that Touma's here in my arm in my…bed./
“Dammit.” That thought alone was enough to yank Saya from her sleep and the sight that welcomed her was… “Touma….?”
There curled up next to her was the object of her desire the thing she'd been missing for so long. /How'd he… That's right he has one of my key cards. He came here last night. I remember, but where has he… “Touma and Shu went to Toymama for a little camping trip.” That was all Mrs. Faun would say. But…/
Touma stirred slightly and Saya tilted her head back to look at his perfect sleeping face, smooth pale skin graced with electric blue hair and eyebrows.
“I've missed you so much,” she whispered and to her surprise his indigo eyes opened greeting her with a glassy gaze.
“And I you.”
“Touma, where have you…” /No don't ask. Don't say it he'll think you're crazy, he'll…/
“What, is something the matter?”
“No… well yes… forget it.” She looked away from his gaze and slowly set up consciously pulling her short T-shirt down to cover her thighs.
“If you're worried, we didn't do anything last night,” he told her as he set up putting a hand on her shoulder.
“I know, that's not what's… never mind.” She looked back at him, forcing a smile to her lips.
“Saya…”
----------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------
Touma didn't know want was wrong, at first she seemed happy to see him but now…
“If you want I'll leave.” It was the only thing he could think to do.
“No!” Her response was adamant as she threw her arms around him. “I don't want you to leave it just… Tou?” She pulled away looking up at him. /I've never seen her like this, she so confused, unsure. It kinda cute but a little worrisome. /
“I need to ask… to tell you something.”
“Go ahead you know I'm always here for you.”
“Yeah, it just everyone else… I just don't want you to think that I'm crazy, but…” She turned away again placing her hand in her laps and wrung her hand nervously. “How long has it been since we've seen each other?” Though a whisper it rang in his ears like a gong. /How long…? Does she know? No there's now way, no one remembers the war. But then why the questions? / “I know that sound strange, but… I don't know…”
“It does sound strange but maybe if you explain it to me.” /Pay it cool. She probably just had a bad dream or something. /
“It just…” She started then looked up at him with a raised eyebrow, “You're avoiding my question.” She eyed him. “Why?”
/Crap did you forget how well she reads you? Dammit. /
“You're right you did ask first,” He sighed, “But after I give you the answer you have to promise not to freak out and not to tell anyone else.” She nodded.
“First you should know that I wasn't sure I was going to tell you this, in fact we, Shu and I weren't sure we were even going to tell the Fauns either.” /Quit beating around the bush and tell her. / “Saya it been over a year since I last saw you.”
----------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------
“Lord Saberstrike, Lady Kayura of the Dynasty has come to request an audience with you.”
“That's former Dynasty, I'm my own woman now and I've come to make you and offer you can't refuse.”
