Chapter 12 Voices Left Behind
There was thud from the front door strangely resembling the sound of someone head hitting wood. /They must be back./ Ryo hurried to the door hoping Shu, in his tired and probably cranky mood, wouldn't decide to start banging on the door.
^Ryo, hurry it up would you.^ the bearer of Kongo whined.
Rekka chucked warily as he reached the door allowing Shu to come in. The trooper stumbled forward brushing by Ryo with a mumbled `thank you'. Behind him Mrs. Faun stood her eyes narrowing a bit when she saw who was letting him in.
"Where's the hostess?" Her voice's tone pulled Ryo from his drowsy state.
"She's sleeping," Ryo replied. There was warning in his tone that didn't go unnoticed by those at the door which didn't included Shu who had already passed them to collapse in the front room.
"I see," The woman stared at Ryo for a few moments before she started forward walking passed Ryo. The trooper leader turned sharply and followed his mind faintly registering the sound of the door closing.
It was clear to the ebony haired trooper that Mrs. Faun was going to cause trouble. /I won't let her, they need rest./ Ryo realized that he was becoming quite protective of the new little yoroi bearer. It felt like he'd known her forever and at the same time she was a stranger. He never knew what she was thinking and then throw in her armor and Ryo was completely lost. But the one thing he was sure of was that he had to protect her for Touma and for herself. In four quick strides Ryo had managed to get in front of the Chinese woman. Her hazel eyes narrowed as he blocked her path.
"What are you doing?" she asked.
"They both need rest and I will not allow you to cause any problems for either of them."
The woman blinked a look of hurt flickering in her eyes. /What was that?/ Suddenly a hand landed on Ryo's shoulder. The black haired boy looked over to see Shin smiling at him.
^It's alright Ryo, really.^ He squeezed Ryo's shoulder emphasizing the words.
/Are you sure?/ Shin nodded and then looked back to the older woman.
"I am sorry, Faun-sama Ryo just a little over protective sometimes," he smiled apologetically.
"It alright I suppose one could only think the worst after my behavior earlier," she frowned looking away from them. Ryo felt Shin pull him to the side away so that the woman would have enough room to pass.
Ryo watched as she moved further down the hall.
"It's the last door." Shin called softly.
"Thank you."
Ryo watched as she turned the knob and entered sliding the white door closed behind her. With a sigh Ryo looked back to Shin who sea colored eyes stared down the hall. He knew better then to question the sea trooper about people intention. With his empathic abilities, Shin was never wrong. It was almost like he could see straight into someone's soul. An ability, if possessed by anyone else would be rather scary but with Shin one knew he'd never use it for evil.
"Let's get some sleep shall we," Shin suddenly yawned. Stepping away from Ryo he walked over to Shu dumping him on the floor. Shu groaned but made no move to get up as Shin pulled out the fold folding couch turning it into a bed.
Bending down he heaved Shu with a grunt onto the bed before settling in himself.
"Need blankets?" Nasty question gave Ryo a slight started as he noticed her for the first time since they'd arrived. Shin mumbled a yes `thank you' much like Shu earlier. Nasty smiled looking up at Ryo her eyes dark as she moved toward him.
Something about the look on her face made Ryo relax a bit.
"Time for bed Rekka no Ryo," she told him ushering him down the hall. How exactly she knew there was another bedroom Ryo wasn't certain but sure enough she did. She opened the door taking note of Seiji; one arm over his t-shirt clad stomach the other behind his head. She shook her head whispering. "Even in sleep he looks graceful, ne?" Ryo nodded automatically as Nasty's breath rolled over his ear sending shivers through his body. /She's so close./ Ryo stepped forward trying to escape the intoxicating smell of the red head.
"But," Nasty began as she began to close the door. "he's not as cute as you." Ryo froze swing around to find the door closed though he could hear her moving around on the other side as she opened cabinets. / What did she say…/ He blinked his mind whirling with Nasty's last comment. /Did she… Does she really…/ Ryo started to take a step toward the door but stopped shaking him head. /Get real, Ryo./ With that final thought Ryo walked over to the opposite side of the bed collapsing next to the blonde. /Must be sleepy… Too sleepy./
*************************************
There were five bright lights very close, each one beating at a smooth and rhythmic pace. /The troopers./ Her mind whispered as she set up and glancing around at the darkness that surrounded them. /A dream./ This was the first time she'd had one like this since the earthquake; since Ojo and Shinu had been released. Saya turned to the blue light running her fingertips over the edges. /Touma./ The aura responded growing brighter with her touch. /Strange they've never responded to me before./ She set there for a few moments fingering Touma's aura, but some where in the darkness Saya could sense something amiss. Standing she surveyed her surrounding her eyes locking on five distant light. Before she even realized she had begun to move she was there our at least as close as she could get. /The wall. Youja Kai./ Saya press against the unseen barrier as she watched the five auras. She knew that they were the mashos and that new armor. /Kenbukyou./ She scanned over the aura noticing right away that Yami was trying to hide his aura. She wondered on if for a brief second before her eyes latched onto Gen's aura. It was isolated from the others it normally bright maroon colored aura now a shimmering gray. /What's happening to it?/ Gen struggles against the gray power it purple tint returning for moment before the gray returned.
"Gen no Rajura..." she whispered though in the dead silence of her dream plain. The struggling auras seemed to turn their attention upon her. Saya stared back not sure how they had heard her. /Gen no Rajura./ Suddenly images of his face flashed before her, eyes scrunched in pain, mouth ajar in a silent scream.
"What's wrong?" Even as the words let her mouth a ghostly figure oozing with ill intent slinked into the images wrapping around the masho's pain etched face. "Wha…?" Saya blinked staring at the sleeping face of Touma. His arms wrapped securely around her, lips parted slightly as his chest filled with another even breath. She smiled the dream she'd just had fading into the background as she reached up sweeping her fingers across his cheek. His eyes fluttered slightly but didn't open. With a sighed she started to settle back into sleep with her eyes caught sight of someone stand at the foot of the bed. Saya turned her head not excepting to see the looming shadow of Mrs. Faun watching her.
**********************************************
The girl's eyes widened in shock and near horror. She watched with a great deal of interest as the girl tried to decide what to do. Mrs. Faun could almost see her mind working through her golden-brown eyes. Her face felt into a calm glaze as she started to unwrap Touma's arms, but stopped when Mrs. Faun raised her hand shaking her head.
"It is ok, don't wake him." The teen blinked watching the woman for a moment. Mrs. Faun could tell that it was uncomfortable for her to bend sideways and look at her so she walked around behind her son. A smile crept to her lips as she reached down lightly playing with the sleeping boy's hair.
"I have been thinking, Saya-san." The girl still remained quiet seemly watching her. "About lot about things, about you and Touma, this war you'll be fighting and I've come to a decision."
She looked up from her son to his… girlfriend and smiled. "I was wrong, I was wrong for not giving you a chance. I-"
"No Faun-sama, it all my fault I'm the one that stood back and watch those girls. I should have stopped them."
"We all make mistake Saya-san none of us can always make the right choice. Look at me I made a judgment based on just one event, despite the many good things I saw you do after that. I allowed that one event to overpower everything else. And in doing so I hurt the person I was tried to protect."
"Faun-sama don't feel bad you only wanted to protect Touma. Please don't blame yourself." She said trying hard not to wake Touma up. "Maybe… maybe we both made mistakes."
"Yes," the older woman nodded, "Let leave it at that then, Saya-san. For this point on we'll starting over."
"I'd like that Faun-sama."
"No none of that, you and the boy's friends are so formal call me…" /Do I really want her to call me that?/ The older woman stared at the girl who could potentially take her Touma away. She was waiting patiently for Mrs. Faun to continue her eyes glowing slightly. "Call me mom."
"Yes… mom." The woman nodded the title sounded good, if not a little too final. /I better get some grandkids out of this./
"Good then sleep. I know you must be exhausted."
"But where are you going to sleep Mrs.- mom?"
"Sleep?! Us mother don't sleep. Besides I got a breakfast to get ready. Feeding five hungry boys is not going to be easy." Mrs. Faun noticed Saya starting to protest but she held up her hand. "Mom's orders, you stay here and keep my Touma company."
With that she opened the door leaving the two teens alone but not before her ears caught.
"Thanks Mom."
*********************************************
Saya laid there dumbfounded. /What the hell just happened? Call me mom?! This has got to be some kinda joke./ As she pondered on this sudden change of heart she felt movement beside her. She glanced at Touma his eyes still closed. She felt his arms tight around her bringing her closer. She did resist instead she leaned up to place a soft kiss on his cheek. His eyes opened instantly focusing on her. Midnight blue holding her gaze.
"Morning," Saya whispered suddenly a little weary of being so close.
"Is it?" He muttered with a sleepy yawn.
"I think so, but I can't see the clock," she smiled shyly at the blue haired archer. "Oh," His voice held and air of something smug, as he pulled her closer their bodies now chest to well defined chest. "Now can you see it?"
"What do you think?" she tried to sound anger but she didn't manage it as Touma started laying kisses on her temple and cheek.
"Touma stop, your mother's here you know."
"Yeah I know." He replied moving down to her neck.
"So, she won't-" Her words were cut off as he brushed her lips with his.
"I thought you had a truce?"
"We do, but… hey you were awake?" Touma didn't answer as he pulled away slightly moving to hover over her. The two young lovers stared into each others eyes uncertainty, love and wonder reflecting in their irises. /A thousand sparkling stars, the heaven themselves lie in his eyes./ Saya did wait for Touma she leaned up the two of them meeting halfway eyelids sliding closed as wanting lips press against each other. Touma pulled away both of them breathless as before descending again to place soft peeks all over her face.
"I thought you bombard me with questions when I woke up not kisses," Saya giggled.
"Kisses...*kiss*…first…*kiss*… questions…*kiss*…after."
*******************************************
/Shuten…Please answer. Naaza, Anubis!/ Rajura was getting desperate, he knew what Kayura and this Arbinary were planning. /Damn it, not again, not again!/ The thought of the four of them under another spirit's control truly frighten Rajura. Glancing around at his bleak surroundings the masho sighed.
/I have to calm down, I have to think. But if I waist any more time./ Rajura looked up through the window of his minds watching through his eyes as he, Kayura and the spirit made their way toward Naaza's tent. /Kayura…/ The one eyed masho raised a finger to his lips. He had felt the kiss as if he had really done it, and even now he could feel his feet walk across the dust path. /This possession is nothing like Arago's./ That of course only made matter worse and Rajura realized if he could feel the pleasure then he would feel pain. /Crap, Naaza, Shuten, Damn it Anubis where the hell are you!?/
*******************************************
Naaza didn't realize anyone had entered until the he felt the hand on his shoulder. Turning he glazed up at Rajura, who looked for all the world as if he were in a daze.
"He still hasn't woken up?" Rajura asked quietly.
"No, I'm worried `Jura, What if that girl did something to him, what if-"
"Don't worry he'll awaken soon," Naaza glanced to his left at Kayura, who must have entered with his brother. "Of that I'm certain, aren't you, Hunjo?"
"Yes, my lady." The neither spirits form seemed to flick for a moment before he raced forward.
Naaza gasped, trying to backward from the spirit while still protecting Shuten but it was to not avail. The Spirit raced into the masho's gasping mouth wisps of it power seeping from his nose and ears.
Naaza's eyes widened as he felt the spirit invade his mind, trying to seize control of his body.
^Naaza fight!^ he heard one of his brother call faintly, but under the mental attack Naaza found that he could do very little. With the last of his strength he threw up a mind shield trying to haul the spirit take over.
^Foolish,^ it replied at his attempt as it pulled back energy engulfing its form.
/What are you? You're not a neither spirit?/
^No, I am not.^ With that the energy detached from the spirit. It race across the battle field of his mind, vine-like strip stretching over his shield. They press against the outside like a press squeezing fruit, it shattered within second the vines wrapping around his mental image.
He heard himself scream as the pain of his mind being ripped from his body tore through his nervous system, before for darkness tackled him. /Shuten… Anubis!/
************************************************
"Everything finally loaded?" Shu asked, as Ryo through another bag in the back.
"Almost!" he called back. Shu watched through the rear view mirror as he threw another bag in the back.
"You know Ryo you should really consider a job at the airport," Shu called as his leader threw one last bag in the trunk before slamming it closed.
"Watch it Ryo!" Seiji grumbled as he glanced down at the car's trunk.
"Sorry." Shu looked toward the elevator as Shin, his mom, Touma and Saya stepped out. /Nice./ Shu smiled to himself as he noted Saya biker outfit, tight black leather pants, tank top and black and purple leather jacket, images of wild cats fading in to the jacket
"We ready?" Nasty asked as she pulled up behind Seiji's car.
"I think so," Ryo answered as the last four in their party made their way over.
"Mrs. Faun," Nasty began bring a `ahem' from the older woman's lips. "I mean Mommy Faun, are you sure you don't want us to wait until your husband arrives here?"
"No, it will be after noon by the time you kids get home anyway, so get going. I don't want Saya riding that thing in the dark." She finished thumbing toward Saya who busied herself with uncover her shiny purple and black motorcycle.
"Wow, So that a-ko?" Ryo awed as he stared at the bike. Shu stepped out of the passenger side of Seiji car as the guys made their way toward Saya and Touma.
"That's Akira," Saya corrected, with a grin as the archer rolled his eyes.
"Oh, sorry,"
"No big, it just my baby gets kinda upset when people call him the wrong name. Isn't that right baby."
"Are you talking to it?" Seiji raised an eyebrow as he watched Saya check over the bike.
"She always talks to it," Touma responded smiling now.
"Touma are you riding with her?" Shin asked.
"Well I…"
"Please can I ride," Ryo asked suddenly his eyes wide with hope. "I've always want to ride one." Saya glanced at Touma who nodded.
"Sure," She unlocked helmets on the side tossing one his way.
"One of these days I going to get one," Ryo exclaimed as he pushed the helmet down over his wild black hair.
"There a speaker in it if you want to talk," Saya told him as she slid her leg over the bike.
"Really? Cool." With that Ryo hopped on behind her sliding his hands around her waist.
^Hey Ryo,^ Touma called watching the two of them. ^Watch your hands.^ Their leader turned bright red as he looked from his hands to Touma. Quickly he pulled his hands back. Shu watched biting his lip. /Don't laugh, don't laugh."
"You have to hold on Ryo or you'll fall off." Saya instructed.
"But-"
"Have fun you two," Touma called a huge smile on his face as he winked at Ryo. Instantly the huge blush was replaced with a huff right before he slammed down the helmet visor.
^I thought you were serious.^
^Oh but Ryo I am. Saya will knock you off that bike and I'll have Seiji run over you.^
^Wha?!^ Shu burst out laughing as did Shin and Seiji.
"What's so funny?" his mom asked.
"Touma was just teasing Ryo that all." Shin replied.
"Well you boys better get going,"
"Sure thing mom," Shu nodded turn to hug his mom. She squeezed him tightly.
"Take care of everyone Shu," she whispered before releasing him.
"I will." She then turned to Touma, giving him a hug. Shu was sure she was giving him some parting advice to. Then she turned to Shin, giving him the same.
"No problem," Shu heard Shin say back. /Wondering what she told him.
She's been acting funny ever since the ride here last night./ Shu had noticed how much more civil she was being toward Saya and the way she resisted asking too many questions at breakfast. /I can never figure grownups out./
Shu was shaken from his thoughts as he watched the resistant blond being pulled into a hug.
"Loosen up boy," With that she tapped him on the butt to emphasize her point. Seiji yipped indulgently pulling away from her with a scowl. She then moved on to Ryo, Saya and last Nasty. Piling into the vehicles they all said their goodbyes before they left.
*******************************************
Mrs. Faun smiled sadly as they left the parking garage. She stood there for the longest time just staring after her boys. Only the comforting arms of her husband pulled her from the daze. She looked up to him her blue eyes filling with tears.
"They're all grown up, their not my babies anymore."
"Shhh, yes they are, they'll always be your babies," he soothed while moving her toward their SUV at the same time.
/Touma… Shu… all of you, be careful and take care of each other."
********************************************
Shuten awoke suddenly the cries from Naaza freeing him from his deep sleep. It took his eyes a moment to focus but once they did Shuten shot up from the mat he was laying on.
"Naaza! What's-" the red haired stopped short as strong armored arm snagged him pinning him in a half-nelson. Shuten squirmed trying to get out of the attacker's grip. "Who?!"
"Calm don't Shuten!" Kayura hissed from the darkness. Emerging her eyes narrowed as she approached.
"Kayura, what the hell are you doing?" Shuten screamed as Naaza cries ceased his body sinking to the floor. He gasped as a spirit arose from Naaza's body its shape shifting for a second before forming into a neither spirit. "Hunjo!"
^Yes and no!^ It spoke as Shuten realized who was holding him.
"Rajura…" Shuten twisted staring back into an empty eye. /He's possessed./ "Kayura what are you doing?"
"Don't sound so accusing Shuten! After all this is all your fault, anyway," she hissed.
"What are you talking about?"
"You planned to revolt, you were planning to kill me."
"What?! I never-"
"Liar!" Her hand flew across his face nails digging into his skin tearing the flesh. Blood instantly poured from the scratched as Shuten felt another pair of arms grabbed him.
"Na-kun…" Slowly the spirit approached slamming into Shuten. /Anubis!/
****************************************
Ryo held on a tightly as he dared as Saya shot around another bend, the cycle, moving perfectly with her as Ryo tried to memorize her movements. If Ryo remembered right this was a circuit bike. /Does she race?/
Saya took the next turn even fast causing Ryo to lock his finger together.
"Hold on, tight Rekka," she told him over the walkie talkie style helmets. Ryo nodded though she did see it. "There a set of curves up ahead, right?"
"Yeah, why?"
"I thought so, hold on!"
^Ryo can you tell her to slow down.^ Shin asked worry filling his voice.
^I doubt it.^
^Relax, Shin, Saya can handle it.^ Shu added.
^Besides we're almost home.^ Touma put in.
^I know that's what worries me, there are those five very sharp corners up ahead.^
"Hey Saya Shin wants you to slow down," Ryo said making sure the others heard.
^Ryo we haven't told her about the mind link yet.^ Seiji pointed out.
"Well tell Shin not a chance," Saya told him.
"You heard herrrr!" The bike suddenly lunged forward, Ryo's head snapping back and then forward again.
"Now, Ryo stay centered."
"Are you sure you want to do this with me on here?"
"Just stay centered and will be fine." They reached the first curve a neck breaking pace the bike tilting till their knees where almost on the pavement.
"Oh shit!!"
Pulling out of the turn the motor cycle tilted right then left as the came around the third curve. By this time Ryo was really getting the hang of it. He lean over her shoulder caught the speed. /198. She's going 198 Kilometers per hour./ By this time they'd reached the last bend. Straightening out she called, "Hey Ryo you ok?"
"That was… so awesome! Shit I've got to get me one of these." She laughed in response as the bike slowed get off at the next exit.
^Yeah Ryo?^ Shin called.
/Yeah./
^Nasty said `no way in hell! Excuse my language.' Or rather hers.^
************************************************
The house was instantly filled with voices as the young warriors made their way in some choosing to drop their stuff right there at the door while other tripped into the living room too tire to make it up the stairs. Shu watched careful getting a nodded from Ryo as Saya dropped onto the couch next to Touma. The Chinese trooper watched careful as Seiji passed his consent wasn't needed since they created to the plan together.
/Shin?/
^Almost there, go ahead and start," Shin replied.
/Right./ Shu lumbered toward the unsuspecting girl who had her head laid on Touma's shoulder.
Sense his approach both occupants of the couch looked up at him.
"Get up!" Shu commanded his voice not quite a yelled.
"What?!" Saya glanced up at him her eyes slightly glasses.
"Get up, we've got work to do."
"Work, what are you talking about?"
Placing her hands on his hip Shu clarified. "Samurai Boot Camp, Saya-kun."
"Kun… Samurai Boot Camp, are you kidding?"
"No, we're not kidding," Touma said as he stood. Saya gawked at her boyfriends a betrayed looked crossing her face.
"Not just Touma, all of us have agreed," Ryo added as he came to stand beside
Shu, Seiji with him.
"It nothing personal love it just you worried us, yesterday." Shin added as he came down the stairs.
"You need training," Ryo nodded.
"And we're going to give it to you," Shu nodded firmly watching the girl for any signs of disagreement. "Good, now Ryo and Seiji are in charge of teaching you offensive being our two resident swordsmen. Me and Shin will take care of your defense."
"You teach me defense?" she said skeptical.
"We actually I'll be teaching," Shin put in, "And Shu will be testing you."
"Oh."
"And I'll be in charge of you overall physical development, testing your strength, endurance, flexibility and so on," Touma smiled.
"I wonder how he's going to do that." Shu grinned mischievously. Touma's face instantly went from white to red.
"No like that!" he yelled as the others burst into laughter. Saya rolled her eyes before throwing a glared Shu's way.
"Pervert."
The laughter eventually subsided though Touma's face stayed a nice shade of pink. Saya leaned back on the couch her eyes closed again.
"What do you think you're doing?" She cracked and eye open at the bearer of Kongo.
"Sleeping, why?"
"We start today! Right now."
"Wha-?"
*************************************
His midnight blue eyes flew open as he felt a tug at his mind. The masho looked around at the barren landscape he set in before slowly opening his link with the other mashos.
/ …pain… anger… disbelief… fear… What the hell happened? Shuten can you hear me. Shuten?!/
^A--bis -elp us!^
/What wrong, Shuten I can't-/
^Kay--a --ick u., Hi-j- po-s---ing -ur b-di-s. We-^ Anubis gasp a stabbing pain shot through his head cutting off his brother's voice.
/Shuten… Shuten!? I don't understand what's going on? I have to get back./ Anubis concentrated on the castle teleporting outside of it. The instant he arrive the bearer of Yami pulled himself into the shadows watching the camp from afar.
Troops, most of them Kenbukyou's, marched about like before. /I have to find the others./ Anubis slunk toward the castle entering though an unfinished corridor. Once inside he called to his brother again find all three of them together in the main living room.
/I don't get it./ The emotions he'd felt before were gone in fact Anubis couldn't sense any emotions from his brothers at all. Deciding not to waist anymore time, the warriors of darkness teleported there, finding his brothers all sitting in full armor, around him. Their eyes were empty, their armors dull, lacking their normal glow.
"Shuten, Rajura, Naaza…"
"Glad you could join us, Yami no Anubis," /Kayura./ Anubis did turn to face her. "We've actually been waiting quite a while for you."
"What have you done?" he growled.
"Before I answer I should tell you that I know of your plans to do away with me," her tone held an air of sadness behind the resentment
"Yes we were planning on leaving you, we don't want to follow anyone else for that matter."
"You planned more then that, you planned to kill me, did you not?"
"What?! Of course not, we may not have wanted to follow you, but what gave you the idea that we'd kill you."
"I told her," Anubis turned to the left slightly to see the spirit hovering beside Shuten. "I saw it all in their minds. You can't lie."
"I have no need to lie, you worthless spirit."
"So then you didn't want me dead," Kayura asked, hopefully her face almost child like.
"No, Rajura even seemed to-"
"Lies, I saw it all, perhaps in pain you'll admit the true masho." The spirit raised it arm the three comatose mashos responded standing before rush Anubis. The blue haired warriors dodged Rajura's scythes as Shuten's gama kusai cut into his shoulder. He bit his lip as he leaped up spinning to faces his brother.
"Stop this!"
"Admit you're lies."
Naaza charged his sword cutting through the air. Anubis blocked only to have Shuten's chain wrap around his throat. With a quick yank Anubis was down Naaza swords digging into his flesh. A scream ripped from his throat as the burning poison raced through his body. /No, this… they…No! Kayura…Your being deceived… possessed./
*************************************************
"Block!" Ryo ordered. Saya did as she was told block with her right sword.
"I thought you were teaching offense," she grumbled.
"Strike!" Saya swung her left sword at Ryo chest, he blocked easily. The two locked sword and Seiji was quite surprised to see that Ryo couldn't pushed the girl over, but then again all three of them we in full armor. /She's not bad, fast learner, and she understand her body's limited. Touma just has to teacher the armors moments-/ Seiji's thoughts were broken as a very familiar aura suddenly filled his senses. Saya stopped in mid attack her eyes falling on Seiji.
"Seiji, Anubis!
"Nani?" Spinning Seiji gazed down at a bloody Yami, the warrior lay on the
ground blood pouring onto the untamed grass.
"Yami no Anubis…"
