Chapter 1: Pack your things...
Beep!Beep! Beep!
A hand emerged from underneath a pile up blankets, searching around for the damned alarm clock. Where is that stupid thing? I need sleep! She finally hit the snooze button and fell back to sleep, or atleast she tried too. Then came the knocking on her door. More quiet knocks from her Aunt to get her to open the door, and then when she ignored them they got louder.
"Alright! Alright! I'm getting up Aunt Taka!" Kaoru yelled as she threw her blankets off. If anything she looked a mess, bags under her eyes and her hair all over the place. She got up from her bed and made it to the door, throwing it open to see her Aunt leaning on the wall opposite from the door.
" It's only 6 a.m.! Why wake me up this early if were moving!" she whined as she looked at her Aunt. Taka smirked alittle and puff out some smoke from her morning cigarette.
" Well if were moving, that means we have to pack doesn't it." Taka picked up a sack of boxes next to her. And tossed a few to Kaoru. " Start packing, were leaving in a couple of days. And I hope you said good bye to your so-called friends. Now if you'll excuse me I have furniture to load into the truck." She started walking away leaving a fuming Kaoru behind.
"Old hag..."Kaoru mumbled as she picked up the other boxes. Then from the bottom of the stairs she heard Taka.
" I heard that! Annoying tanuki, I should make you move your own damn furniture."
Kaoru slammed her door shut as placed the boxes on her bed. She still need to wake up and her Aunt wasn't helping. It's not like they hated each other. But Kaoru had put Taka through alot over the three years of her guardianship. If I hadn't gotten into drinking and "gang-related" activities then I could still live here. Kaoru had pissed Taka off so much with Kaoru's early smoking and drinking habits. She made sure to end it, with her own methods. And believe me it won't happen again.
Kaoru made her way into her own bathroom. Kaoru gazed silently at her face, then turned on the faucet letting the cold water flow through her fingers. Geez! I look horrible! Splashed her face with ice cold water, grabbing a towel to dry herself off. She sighed as she had to brush out mass of tangles. Then tied it up in its usual high ponytail. She changed into a pair of shorts and plain blue t-shirt. She didn't need to wear anything great. It was summer vacation plus it was to hot to be wearing anything different. Making her way back in her room. " Time to pack all of this junk." She started packing her things quietly with plenty of thoughts running through her head. Her Aunt wanted to move to have a fresh start in Tokyo, plus she had already built herself a popular coffee shop, restaurant, and a nightclub. But her Aunt hadn't pick just any place for them to live, but an old fashioned dojo. Kaoru hated to admit that she loved it. Kaoru thought of it as her true home and even though she loved her current house. She loved the dojo even more, but for weeks it had to go through renovations for them to be able to move in. Kaoru paused as she came across another photo, a picture given to her by her Aunt of her mother and father. She smiled sadly at it, she barely remembered her mother. Truthfully she had inherited all her looks from her mother, with the sapphire eyes and the raven black hair. Even there faces were similar. Her aunt Taka was her mother's older half-sister, she was too tall to be fully related. 5'10" and here I am at 5'1". Yahiko and I are short and she's tall, talk about mismatched. She packed the the rest of her things, emerging from her room a few hours later.
Walking down stairs to see Yahiko relaxing on the couch, eyes closed as if sleeping. The 12-year-old monster, with his spiked jet black hair. I'm not related to him either, but Aunt Taka took him in after his parents died. But if I can't sleep neither can he! Kaoru walked over and flicked him on the back of his head.
"Ow Ugly! Why'd you do that!" He yelled snapping out of his daydreams.
"You were slacking off, thats why! And don't all me ugly, Yahiko-chan!" She yelled back, it was the usual thing in this household.
"Ugly!"
"Yahiko-chan!"
"Don't call me chan! You ugly Tanuki!"
"Then don't call me ugly!"
"That's enough you two!"
They both stopped at the sight of pissed off Taka. Yahiko pointed at Kaoru "I was taking a break from helping you and she's gotta bug me!" Taka tried to massage her temple. What will I do with these two! I brought them both into my home and they can't even get along. "If that's the case then don't even bother talking to one another. Just pack your damn things. Oh and I'm taking you two out for dinner later, I don't feel like cooking besides all of its packed up." She let down her long black hair from its hairclip, and collapsed on the last piece of furniture in the living room, the couch. Yahiko jumped up " We get to eat at the Shirobeko! Then I'll finish packing!" he ran up stairs for his room. Then Taka lit another cigarette, taking a long drag from it. Kaoru sat down next to her Aunt. She wished her aunt would start dating, but she liked being the loner. But sometimes she couldn't help but feel that her Aunt was missing something.
"What's on your mind Kaoru?" Taka looked over to her. "I'm just thinking on what you said about friends earlier, my so-called ones." She sighed and propped her head up on the arm of the couch. " Do you think I'll make better ones in Tokyo?." Her aunt was quiet for a few moments all you could hear was the occasional sounds from the wind chime. "Yes, I believe you will. You just have to find the right ones." Taka smirked and got up. " Now I have to pack my room, there's some food in the fridge if your hungry Kaoru." Taka lived downstairs so she made her way across the living room and closed her door behind her. She wanted a new start as much as her aunt did, Kyoto brought back so many bad memories for the both of them. Even Yahiko who had plenty of friends wanted to move. He was excited about moving into the dojo in Tokyo. Taka had inherited it from her grandfather, and she thought it would be best to live there. It had plenty of space for the three of them. Yahiko and I could pratice our swordmanship easier. Kaoru got up and sat down on the windowseat by the front door. The moving truck was closed up for the day, because of the rain starting to fall. She hadn't even noticed, she always hated storms. The skies starting to turn into shades of gray and black. I guess the move will be tomorrow...
Kaoru's POV
Kaoru brought her knees up close to her. The rain always brought back such horrible memories, but then again so did fire. It's been three years since his death, and I still feel like hes been gone for eternity. I only had my problems because I felt so alone. Even with Taka and Yahiko by my side. But in truth their my real family, their all I have. Sure Aunt Taka can be a bitch and Yahiko is a little jackass. But they will still be there for me. My so-called friends as their called left me when I quit all my bad habits. I wasn't part of the "crowd" anymore. But I don't want to be like them anymore, I want to live for me. Live to avenge my parent's deaths. But the only way I can do that is keep up with my father's teachings. Plus I'll have to actually let Taka teach me a thing or two. But not until I become master of the Kamiya Kasshin. I will not disappoint you father.
"Kaoru?"
"Hey Ugly! It's time to eat! Let's go already."
I glance up as I finally break my thoughts. To see Yahiko up close with an annoyed look on his face, and Taka waiting patiently for me to speak. " Eat? What were going now?" I look down at my clothes. " I'm not even dressed for it yet." Getting up from the window seat. I start walking up the stairs. " Well don't take long ugly, I'm hungry. Honestly we should just leave you." I looked back at him, and then over to see Taka with her eyes closed but a smirk on her face none the less. "Ok Yahiko-chan, I'll only take 10 minutes. I wouldn't want you to die of hunger." My very words dripping with sarcasm. Then I made my way up the stairs into my room, locking the door behind me. The I pulled out an elegant black shirt and pair of hip-huggers. Stripping off the shirt and shorts, I put on my choice of clothes. Slipping on my sandals, then I'll take one last look in the mirror. Ok everything good, now I'm out of here.
(A/N: I'm putting it back in third person, heh. I couldn't stand to write the rest in first person.)
She ran down the stairs, to find the two gone. Their probably waiting in the car. She grabbed an umbrella and then opened the front door. Locking it behind her as she shut it, she then opened her umbrella and ran out to the waiting SUV. Pulling open the passenger door she closed her umbrella and hopped in." Geez! Its raining cats and dogs." Kaoru settled back as she slipped on her seatbelt. "And tanuki's." Yahiko chimed in. She decided to let it go, she'd get even later. Atleast the road's weren't to crowded, it took them about 10 minutes to get there. Taka pulled up to the covering by the entrance of the restuarant. "You two go in, I'll park out back." They both silently got out and went into the dry restaurant. Both watching as the SUV pulled around the corner. Then they were greet by a familar happy face. Sae walked over with the same bright smile like always. " Hey Kaoru-chan, Yahiko-chan. Just you two or is your aunt with you?." She started to pick up the menu's.
" Yeah she's here Sae." Kaoru started to follow her as did Yahiko. Who was already looking forward into digging into whatever food he could get. They both settled at there table as a soaking wet Taka finally graced them with her presence.
"Oh good your all here. It's to bad your all moving." Sae finished with a sad note in her voice. Then she quickly recovered. " But since your moving to Tokyo, you can go to the Akabeko. That's where my sister Tae works." She smiled her sickenly sweet smile. "So are you ready to order?" She took out her writing pad, waiting silently for them to start.
" I'll have the suki yaki and teishoku!" Kaoru smirked because she remembered the last time he ordered his meal while her aunt was away. The bill was so high, he was on chore duty and heavy slave labor for about four months. Just to pay back for all the food he ordered.
Kaoru glanced at the menu." Hmmm. I guess I'll go with the Yakitori don."
"I'll have the Shirayaki and just bring some Green tea for the three of us." Taka passed the three menus back, as Sae took there order to the kitchens.
"Aunt Taka?"
"Yes?"
"Who is that man who's staring at you?."
"What man-" She was cut short on who it was. "Katsura! Is that you?"
Kaoru watched as the man got up and went to shake her aunt's hand. " It's been awhile. Is everything ok?." She gestured for him to sit down next to her. He laughed alittle taking a seat next to her. "Everything's fine. I just came to see if it was true that you were moving to Tokyo." Kaoru and Yahiko sat there still puzzled. " Yes, we are moving. It's sort of hard to believe." She glance over at her two "children". " Oh sorry you two, This is my friend and old boss. Katsura Kogorou." He bowed his head in introduction. Taka pointed to the two. " This Kaoru Kamiya, my niece. And Yahiko Myoujin, another child I took under my wing, who is practically son to me anyway."
"Pleased to meet you Katsura-san." Kaorubowed her head alittle. Kaoru couldn't quite put her finger on it, but she had seen this man before. She sat there in wonder when the small talk started at the table. After a few minutes, she wondered if he'd be staying for their dinner as well. He seemed to be reading her thoughts. " Well, I have clients to meet with. I'm sure I'll see you in Tokyo, Taka. Or perhaps I'll stop in your restuarant one night." He got up, sipping a small note into Taka hand. Only Kaoru noticed it, and then the paper was tucked out of sight. I wonder what thats about."Good bye Kaoru-san, Yahiko-san." He waved over his shoulder as he disappeared out of sight.
"Well he was strange." Yahiko finally spoke up. Kaoru smacked him upside his head. " Ow Ugly! I was only stating the truth!" Yahiko hissed at her. "Well maybe you shouldn't judge someone when you first meet them." Kaoru keep her voice low not wanting to start a scene in the restuarant. " Plus he's a friend of your guardian and an elder, so you should show more respect." Taka finally emerged from her thoughts as she saw Sae coming with there orders. " Would you two be quiet, your orders are here." Yahiko happily accepted his, as he then began to scarf down his food. Kaoru looked across to her Aunt who was deep in thought again instead of eating her meal. She's always like this when she comes in contact with someone she knows. What is she hiding? What will this next day bring? Kaoru sighed as she picked through her meal. I guess I'll have to wait and see...
