Rurouni Kenshin Fan Fiction ❯ Falling Back ❯ The Journey Begins ( Chapter 1 )

[ Y - Young Adult: Not suitable for readers under 16 ]

Disclaimer: I do not own Samurai X nor do I own Rurouni Kenshin. If I did it would be in the dojo not Karou!

A/N, from Ame to all: Ame's dojo….hmmm I like the sound of that. Oh sorry! I'm still hung up on the disclaimer. Anyways this is my second fanfic I hope you guys like it. If you want to read my first one, which is still being written as well it's called "The Conflicting Desires". It's an Inu Yasha Fushigi Yugi crossover. Now you don't see too many of those. Okay enough with the advertisements and on to the main feature. Lights, cameras, ACTION!

Narrator:

Four long years after the death of his mother, Karou, have passed. The 17-year-old sets out to find not only himself, but the father he never knew as well. He leaves the Kamiya dojo, in the knowing hands of Yahiko Myoji, and begins to walk to Kyoto. The man he seeks he has heard about many times, but only in the stories his mother told him as a child. He had to start somewhere and the best friend of his father was probably the smartest place. Sanosuke Segara had no idea what was in store for him as young Kenji made his way through the forests of Japan.

Kenji:

Mother used to tell me all about my father. I don't know how much of it was true, nor do I understand what possessed a woman like her to fall in love with a man like him. He always left us; and when he returned, he would never stay for long. Yet somehow I know he had a good natured soul and a kind heart, I can feel it. This sakabato from Yahiko tells me how great of a man my father was. It tells me to follow his path, to learn who he was, and in doing so it tells me that I can find out who I am... I remember my mother's stories, she'd always tell me about him with a smile on her face. The thoughts of the times they spent together made her smile nothing else. How could someone even think to destroy that smile? And why is he the only one who could make her smile like that? I'll travel the way he did, by foot, from town to town. I'll meet his friends and relive his life, if not for my mother, than for me.

Thank the heavens that I have this outline *pulls out scroll* without it I'd be wandering for years. Let's see, Yahiko has listed all the names of people I need to seek out and where to find them. The first name on the list is Sanosuke Segara in Kyoto. *puts away scroll* But even Myoji couldn't have known everything that Kenshin did after his time as a battosai. He said himself that he wasn't always with Kenshin, he was too young for some of the dangers that they had encountered. It's very unfortunate that Subame had to take ill at a time like this. Yahiko's company would be much appreciated right now. But

Subame suffering of sadness is understandable; after all, my mother died that way. I guess the loss of Ms. Tae from the beef pot restaurant was too much for her. Not only does she have this hanging over her head but she is pregnant as well, and Yahiko cannot afford to give her a proper wedding, considering neither of them have parents…It doesn't matter now, I have to concentrate on finding out about Kenshin. Yahiko has done all he can to help me.

Narrator:

Several fortnights pass and Kenji finally reaches Kyoto. He is exhausted after his continuous trek through the woods by foot. He decides to spend the afternoon observing people in a bar and then sleep outside under the stars. (A/N, form Ame to all: Eww! Ever here of bathing buddy?!?) The following morning, he travels into the marketplace to seek out Sano. While looking through the crowds he noticed a sketch like figure of a taller man move towards him from the right. This man's speed was such that it almost matched Kenji's. Almost. Kenji drew his sakabato just in time to block the stranger's blade.

"Ha! Just checking if your skills were still sharp Himura," said the white head man of about 40. "Damn, Kenshin, I guess the Hiten Mitsurugi style really is like the fountain of youth!" *Kenji falls over.* "So what brings you to town?..." *He doesn't see Kenji, but feels something wiggles under his foot. He realizes he is standing on him.* "…Kenshin? How'd you get down there?"

Kenji told the man his long story and the goals he planned to achieve. The stranger replied, "Ah-hah I see that the baka went ahead and married that girl after all. I guess she really was like my sister…*more to himself*"

"Your sister??" Kenji inquired, not so politely.

"Yeah…oh sorry I forgot to introduce myself. My name is Enishi Yokoshiro. I'm Tomoe's little brother. Didn't your dad tell you about how I almost killed him on my island?"

Kenji's face changed from his usual serious but content smile to a look of very deep thought.

Kenji:

Tomoe…that's the woman who's grave my parents used to visit when I was young. They always spoke about her in whispers and then Kenshin would cry in mother's arms. (A/N, from A to all: Kenji doesn't recognize Kenshin as his father; in spirit at least, this causes him to call his father by his first name, Kenshin.) It seems that fate has led me to his man. I should talk to him before I find Sanosuke Segara. But this street is too damn crowded…

"Where do you live Yukoshiro?...Morsere street you say?"

Well that should be easy enough to find. Hmph, what a simple mind, now I just have to wait for him to sheath his sword. No sense in causing a scene…`Sheath his sword'…that pharse sounds familiar as well. Somehow it all must tie to this man, there are no other explanations. Ah-hah, there goes his sword…I hope this doesn't hurt him too much…

A/N, from Ame to all: Obviously you haven't seen any romance, lemons, much fighting, and all the other good stuff you want. But every good story needs a beginning and a good setup. I'll try to make it more interesting as it goes along. Anyway I need some suggestions for girls' names. You'll see why! Please review; it's the only thing that encourages me.
