Chapter 6

Ice Blue Frozen on Amber

Aoshi Shinomori cascaded the mountain side with a reverent speed that made him walk gracefully across the fields. It was dark out and he had been traveling for most of the night. The lone assassin paced himself diligently remembering his orders.

"Mr. Shinomori, Lord Shishio wants you to take part in the eradication of Mr. Himura." The little boy smiled in anticipation.

"What reasons does he have in my participations?"

"Well, Lord Shishio has appointed that people are after not only the Battousai, but Kaoru Kamiya as well. What Master Shishio wants to do is to separate these two, making the Battousai infuriated. Then, Himura will fade into his untamed anger that's going to want to destroy anyone that took his woman away."

"What misconduct would this lead to?"

"Well, we need you to steel Kaoru from him, making the Battousai think it was Shishio that took her away."

"What would that lead to, might I ask?"

"Himura will look everywhere for her, leading him into our trap."

"Oh really."

"Yes. Shishio has ordeals that you get paid a handsome amount of money. The Battousai resides at an old dojo in the mountains some 25 miles away from Tokyo. There, you will find him. Take Kaoru away from him, and make sure you have her concealed from him well enough that time will permit us to carry about our plan."

Aoshi reflected back on his orders and he smiled in a devilish grin. "The Battousai, dead. Yes. That's what Japan needs, and then we will be lead by a diverged leader."

The tall assassin walked through the dense vegetation, disappearing into the darkness.

* * *

"Wow," Kaoru gasped. "Dang, I never knew you had this definite type of taste!"

"What is there to be definite about?"

"It's hard for me to imagine that you, a once manslayer and wanderer, had the liking of such luxuries."

"Hmm," he teased, wrapping his arms around her lithe body possessively, "Nothing gets passed you."

"I'm glad you've noticed that."

Kenshin loosened his embrace off of Kaoru as the raven-haired girl ran into the living quarters. She looked at the fine rug that laid on the floor and ravished at the sight of small palm trees situated at the corners of the room. A gleam of happiness ran through her azure eyes as she delicately traced her fingers over an elegant carving engraved into the low table before her. Kenshin leaned against the wall and looked at her with amusement. As innocent as she was, a childish giggle escaped her lips. How Kenshin wished to taste those luscious lips once again. His body groaned for contact.

Kaoru ran into the kitchen to see such fine furnishings. She smiled at the beautifully hand-crafted tables that filled the kitchen and the western style chairs. "Where did you get things like this?" She asked, running back into Kenshin's arms.

"I received them long ago, several years before this day when I was at a few years into my wanderings."

"Oh…" She trailed off, looking deep into Kenshin's amber eyes.

"That's not it, there's more to the house."

Kenshin motioned Kaoru to the hall way and she followed. She glimpsed through what seemed like the entrance to the bath and gaped her mouth in awe. Her eyes went dazzling at the sight of a well constructed bath tub, a very spacious interior, and a small loft for sitting and laying down in.

"So, what do you think about our home?"

"Our?" Said with the slightest hint of confusion.

"Yes. This is your home now, if you permit it to be."

"Are you willing to let me stay here with you?"

"You took me under your wind that very first day that we met."

"Yes, I did didn't I? But we're here isolated, all alone and peaceful."

"Isn't that what you want?"

"As long as you're-" She was interrupted with the slightest touch of Kenshin's hand caressing her cheek.

"As long as I'm what?"

"Here with me."

"Always, Koishii."

A slight noise was emitted from the outskirts of the dojo. Kenshin picked up the noise and looked behind his shoulder. Kaoru gripped the cloth of his gi and huddled closer to his chest for comfort.

Another footstep was heard.

Kenshin motioned Kaoru to stay in the hall way as he checked out the place at which the noise was coming from. He neared the oversized door of his dojo. He listened for another sound of movement, none was heard. He opened the door and eyes narrowed as he fixated his death stare at ice blue eyes.

Author's note: I'm probably guessing you people out there that just got finished reading this are going to kill me. Huh? Nice cliffhanger, right? Well, I know I have not been updating in a long time, but please try to understand that I'm working on my other story as well. I know it may sound absurd, but I have to have a deep knowledge on the historical background on Japan to make my other story as I want it to be. I will continue with this one and I'm thankful people like this story. Thanks for the reviews too! I will update soon. My genius plan rests on my other story, however. If you did not read it yet, I suggest that you check it out. It's called "Unsaid Words Through Innocent Eyes."
