Chapter 1

“Now that you have your guardian you must create a deck around the Dark Magician Girl,” Spade commented, “Feel free to look through our collection of cards to make you new deck. The cards are in the next room. When you are done come back and we will test your new deck.”

Once Hotaru left the room the four masters began to talk about the girl.

“Well what do you think Spade,” Maximus inquired.

“I think we should make her a student,” Spade remarked, “More specifically I think we should make her Steven's student. I think it is about time you trained someone to take your place so that you would be able to retire.”

“That means she would have to master both her chosen guardian along with my own guardian,” Steven replied, “Are you sure she is up to something like that.”

“Yes if what you said about her potential is true,” Vlad commented, “It wouldn't surprise me if she were to be able to master all of our guardians.”

After that statement Hotaru came back into the room with a deck of forty cards.

“Back so soon Hotaru,” Vlad commented, “Take a seat at one end of the table.”

Hotaru did as she was told and started to shuffle her deck. Spade sat at the other end of the table and did the same thing. After cutting each other's decks and drawing five cards Spade told Hotaru she could go first.

“I'll summon a monster face down and lay two cards on the field,” said Hotaru.

“Good opening move Hotaru,” Spade replied, “I play Pitch Black Warwolf in attack mode then I'll play Graceful Charity. I'll discard Elemental Dragon and Horus Lv4 then I play Premature Burial to bring back Horus Lv4 in attack mode for 800lps. Now Horus will attack your face down monster.”

“I'll activate my facedown card,” Hotaru stated.

“If that's a trap you can't use it during battle thanks to my Warwolf's special ability,” Spade remarked.

Hotaru left her card facedown and Horus attacked the Giant Soldier of Stone, which meant Spade lost 400lps.

“Very good play Hotaru,” Spade commented, “I'll simply lay this card facedown.”

“Now I'll draw and play Pot of Greed,” Hotaru remarked, “Now I'll use Mystical Space Typhoon on your facedown card.”

Spade's facedown Magic Cylinders was destroyed by Hotaru's magic card.

“Now I'll play Cost Down so that I can sacrifice my Soldier of Stone for the Dark Magician,” Hotaru declared, “I lay four cards facedown. Now I'll have my magician destroy Horus Lv4 and reduce your lps to 5900.”

“Very good Hotaru but can you handle my new creature,” said Spade, “I send my Warwolf to the grave so that I can summon Horus Lv6. Next I play Level Up to bring out Horus Lv8 making your magic cards useless.”

“Active trap card,” Hotaru declared, “I flip over Acid Trap Hole to remove Horus Lv8 from the game.”

“Very good you are the first person besides one of the other masters to remove Horus Lv8 from the game,” Spade commented, “I'll play Dimension Fusion to return Horus Lv8 to the field for 2000lps. Now Horus will attack the Dark Magician.”

Hotaru chose that time to flip over Threatening Roar to deny Spade an attack for that turn.

“I'll draw and flip over Pharaoh's Treasure,” Hotaru stated, “Now this card goes back into my deck face-up and when I get it I can take back any card from my grave and it to my hand. I'll lay two more cards facedown.”

Once Spade drew his card Hotaru activated her facedown card Thunder of Ruler, which doesn't allow Spade to attack this turn. After that she drew one card thanks to her Jar of Greed trap card. Then she activated Skill Drain.

“Very well all I can do is set a card face down and a monster in defense mode,” Spade commented.

Hotaru drew her next card, deciding to do the safe thing, played De-spell showing Spade's facedown card to be My Body As A Shield and destroying it.

“I'll play Cost Down allowing me to summon Dark Magician of Chaos by giving up just my Dark Magician,” Hotaru stated, “I play Graceful Charity and discard Dark Magician Girl and Sinister Serpent to the grave. I give up 800lps by using Premature Burial to bring back my Dark magician. The last two cards I hold may just finish this duel. I use Stop Defense on your facedown card and the magic card United We Stand on my Dark Magician of Chaos bringing his attack strength up to 4400. Dark Magician will destroy your Mask of Darkness taking your lps down to 1500. Now my other magician will attack and end this game.”

“Activate Negate Attack so that your battle phase now ends,” countered Spade, “Now I'll draw one card and use Enemy Controller to take your Dark Magician. Now I'll trade him in for Horus Lv6. Now I'll use Snatch Steal to take your only remaining monster but now he gains an extra 2400 attack points bringing its strength up to 5200. Now I'll attack with all three monsters for a grand total damage of 10500. You lose but you put up one heck of a fight Hotaru. Once again you are the first person outside one of the other masters to take me to the limit. You will fine as Steven Kamiya's student. This will not be an easy task as you must master both your own guardian along with Steven's guardian the Blue Eyes White Dragon.”

“I would like to thank you and your friends for doing all of this for me Mr. Hall,” Hotaru stated.

“Please no need to be so formal call me Matt when no one else but the other masters are around,” Matt replied, “Hey Steven why don't you walk her home to make sure nothing happens to her.”

“Sure thing Matt,” Steven commented, “Come on Hotaru lets get you home.”

As they left the house and started towards Hotaru's home they started talking to each other.

“So what do I have to do now that I'm a student,” Hotaru inquired.

“You must watch me when I duel against other people,” began Steven, “You must duel other people as much as you can. There will be several times where you must past a test of faith to your guardian to gain its trust. You must live by our teachings when it comes to duel monsters. You must defend the weaker duelists that are picked on by bullies.”

“What are your teachings Mr., Kamiya?” questioned Hotaru.

“They are that you must always have faith in yourself and in what you are doing,” Steven explained, “If you're losing a duel all you have to do is have faith in yourself and in your deck. You then take this rule and live your life by it.”

As soon as Steven finished saying that they had reached Hotaru's home. When Hotaru opened the door Michiru and Haruka were waiting there with worried looks on their faces.

“Hotaru where were you and who is this person,” Haruka demanded.

Before Hotaru could answer Steven said something.

“There is no need to worry she was only being showed how to be a better duelist by me and some of my friends,” Steven commented, “I decided to walk her home so nothing would happen to her. I'm teaching Hotaru personally my name is Steven Kamiya.”

“Thank you for looking after Hotaru for us Mr. Kamiya,” Michiru stated.

“Please call me Steven madam,” Steven replied.

“My name is Michiru and the blond next to me is Haruka,” Michiru commented, “We are Hotaru's legal guardians.”

“Its nice to meet the two of you,” said Steven, “Now Hotaru remember what I told you about playing Duel Monsters. By the way here is a cell phone with all four numbers on speed dial. One is for Vlad, five is for Maximus, seven is for Spade, and three is to reach me.”

“Thank you again Mr. Kamiya for everything you and your friends are doing for me,” Hotaru replied.

Steven merely smiled at Hotaru, ruffled her hair, and started to walk away. Before he was gone he uttered one final statement to Hotaru.

“I'll be waiting with Spade outside your school for you tomorrow little Hotaru,” Steven remarked.

Once he was gone Haruka turned to her adoptive daughter and ask her a question.

“Who was that guy Hotaru?” Haruka inquired.

“He was Steven Kamiya master of the Blue Eyes White Dragon of the legendary Legacy Duelists,” Hotaru responded.

This shocked Hotaru's guardians finding out that their little was friends with one of the four Legacy Duelists. However, unknown to them Setsuna had listened to the entire conversation.

“So he is part of the group known as the Legacy Duelists,” thought Setsuna, “It does not matter the Gates of Time showed him and his friends as a threat to Crystal Tokyo. It didn't surprise her that the gates considered them a threat what with the power she sensed from the young man that had just left. They had to go but she couldn't kill four humans in cold blood. What was she going to do? That's it I can send them to a pocket dimension for eternity. Perfect they will be dealt with but she didn't have to worry about whether or not she would have to kill them.”

With that she teleported back her home, which were the Gates of Time. She started to prepare to banish the four threats from Earth.

Wow our four heroes seem to have made an unknown enemy in Setsuna Meiou a.k.a. Sailor Pluto. Will our heroes survive Setsuna's plans to banish them to a pocket dimension or will Setsuna get away with her evil plan? Find out in the next chapter of Legacy Duelists.
