“Talking”
`Thoughts'
Chapter 5
Kurama gulp at hearing this, he let go of Makoto and let her push herself off of him. `I hope she listens to me.'
“Kisa-” said Kurama, but he was cut off by Makoto
“Shun, we'll talk about this later, okay?” said Makoto crossing her arms over her chest.
“Ah, yes. Right.” Kurama looked away letting his hair hide his embarrassment.
Maki huffed at them and walked back to class with her group of friends' right behind her whispering about what had just happened. Kirika who had watch the whole thing was now blushing from head to toe, mumbling something to excuse himself from the two. Kurama glanced nervously at his `wife'; her face was blank except for the pink on her check. Whether it was for embarrassment or anger Kurama could not tell, but he had a good guess it was anger do to her eyes darkening.
“Mak-“
SMACK!
Kurama felt his right check burn from the powerful slap Makoto had delivered.`I will never make fun of Yusuke again.' thought Kurama.
“Don't talk to me and don't come near me again!” Makoto said, stomping away for Kurama not caring how he felt. Never in her life had that kind of thing happened. `He just lucky that Maki and Kirika were here otherwise I would have beaten the crap out of him for that!' thought Makoto.
“I was going to apologize for what I did.” said Kurama
Makoto stopped and glanced over her shoulder. She did nothing at first, but then she sigh deeply, “Forget about it. I forgive you.”
“You know it was accident but I still need...”
“I just forgive you don't make me take it back. Now do you know where the nurse office is?”
Kurama thought about it for a moment, he had passed by it on his search for Makoto and Kirika.
“Yes, I do.”
“Good, we need to go by there.”
“For what?” asked Kurama.
“You need an ice pack for that cheek of yours.” said Makoto watching Kurama rub his cheek, but show the way. After meeting the nurse and getting the ice pack for Kurama the two teens returned to class. The class went on with out a hitch with the bell ringing indicating the end of school for the day. Kurama walk over to Makoto's desk as she placed her books and notes away. He gently tapped her on the shoulder, which caused her to look at him.
“Sorry.” she said
Kurama blink `What is she apologizing for' he smile forgivingly at her.
“You were upset and if I were in your place I would have slapped myself too and beside you forgave me remember.” said Kurama smiling that smile of his.
Makoto turned away to avoid looking into those evergreen eyes of his. So he forgiven her, but it sure didn't feel like it. Not only were his eyes drawing her like a moth to a flame, but so was his personality.
“Is Keiichi here?” Makoto asked trying to change the subject.
“Yes, he outside waiting.”
“Excuse me.” Kurama and Makoto look over to see Kirika.
“Kirika-chan, what up? Ya need something?” asked Makoto
Kirika blush a little at `chan' part and answered, “Well I remembed you were having trouble in physics...and well if you need someone to help I can help you.”
“I'll be sure to ask for your help.”
Kirika smile shyly, “Hai.”
She bowed to her classmate and left. Keiichi waited outside right by the car smoking as he watched the high school girls pass by. He spotted the two coming out and waved to them to show them where he was.
“Hey you two have fun?” asked the rookie detective.
“Yeah it was lot of fun.” said Makoto sarcastically.
“Did something happen?” asked Keiichi watching Makoto walk by.
“No.” said the two teens wanting to keep want happened just between them. Keiichi shrugged at them. The drive home was a quite one even when Keiichi tried to get the two to talk about their first day at Sendai high school, but they only gave short answerers.
“I have some good news for you two.” said Keiichi looking into the rearview mirror. This got Kurama and Makoto attention snap at this.
“What is it?” both teens asked.
“You are allowed to talk to your family once a month.” said Keiichi.
“That's it?” Makoto asked, sounding crush by this.
“What? Is that good news?”
“I hoped it was about the assassin...I thought you guys caught him.”
“Sorry, Makoto but catching a guy like him could take years.”
The car that the three were in swerved a bit on the road. Kurama had to grab his seat when this happen. He saw the look of unhappiness on the brunettes face. For some reason it pained him to see Makoto like this. `But why?' Kurama thought. Why did his heart hurt to see her unhappy? What was it about her that had caught the kitsune's eye? Was it because she didn't latch on to him like every other girl? She never really did anything to show that she liked him more then just a friend.
“Are you sure? I thought we wouldn't be allowed to call our family.” said Kurama
“I talked it over with Yakumo and the higher people. They agreed to let you call.” said Keiichi
“When can I call my mother?” asked Kurama. He was anxious to call her. And by doing that his mind would be taken off of Makoto.
“Right now if you want.” Keiichi said
Kurama smiled relieved by this. But he remembed Makoto wanted to talk her family and friends as well.
“You can go first Makoto.” offer Kurama
“No, you go first. Your mother must be worried sick about you.” Makoto said turning her head away looking out of the window.
`It must be nice to have a mother.' For a moment she remember the perfume her mother had worn all the time. The car stopping alerter ting Makoto that they were home. Opening the car door both teens said good night to Keiichi and made their way in. In the elevator both of them were on opposite side, Kurama look up while Makoto look down.
“Makoto.”
“Hmm?”
“Do you want to cook today? You seem tried.”
“No, I'll cook. By the way what would you like to have?” asked Makoto thinking of what to make for dinner.
“What do you suggest?” Kurama asked.
“Broiled salmon with sheered hollandaise or chicken paella?” said Makoto
“I don't know I've never really had any of those.”
“Real? Why don't I make both? Chicken Paella today and broiled salmon with shirred hollandaise tomorrow?”
“Good idea.” Once at home Kurama called his mother asking if everything was alright.
“Every thing is alright, Shiuichi. How are thing in Sendai? You doing okay?” asked Mrs. Minamino
“I'm doing well and things are fine here. Sendai is a bit like Tokyo.” answered Kurama.
“And what about the girl? Is she living with you?”
“Hai.”
“And the apartment?”
“Enough for two people.”
Kurama could hear Makoto in the kitchen cooking. His acute nose picked up the scent of chicken cooking along with the paella. It made his mouth water a bit and his stomach growl.
“Shiuichi?”
“I'm here. I just got a little side tack” After speaking with his stepfather and brother he bid them good night and promised to call them in the middle of every month. He opened the door of his room to see Makoto there, her hand raise ready to knock.
“Dinners ready.” said Makoto
He looked to the table to see only one plate at the table.
“I'll be eating alone then?”
“What? No, I ...I just ...need to get my own plate.”
“Sorry, I didn't mean to sound the way I did. I just wasn't expecting to-“
Makoto cut him off, “Don't worry about it.”
She turn away, she was a bit surprised he had not ask to eat alone since they hardly know each other. It really wouldn't have bothered her since she was used to eating by herself, but that changed once she met the other Senshi. At first there was a silent between the kitsune and senshi of protection. But that changed as Kurama spoke up wanting to know more about the person he would be staying with.
“Makoto since we will be here together for a while I would like to know what are some of your hobbies are?” Kurama asked breaking the silence.
Makoto smiled at him, “Cooking for one. And then there gardening along with finding good bargains.”
“Is that so? What are your favorite flowers?”
“Will, that would be lily of the valley.” She notice a bit of surprised on his face.
“What?” she asked
“I figured roses would be your favorite.” said Kurama
“Oh? How so?”
Kurama pointed to her rose ear rings. She reached up and touched the pink rose ear rings. She remembered the ear rings were the last gift her parents had given to her before they dead. And it was because of that she never took them off.
“They were a gift from my parents. It was their last gift to me.” then she added, “But roses are my second favorite.”
“Your parents what did they do?”
“They were business people. They spend a lot of time traveling, but when ever they were home they spent as much time with me as they could.”
Kurama spoke again, “Forgive me for asking this...but what happen to them?”
“They were killed in a plane crash. It kind of the reason you took a plane and I didn't.”
He frowned at this, “You saw...what happen?”
“I saw the plane crash and after that everything is a complete blank.” She closed her eyes trying to stop herself from chocking up in front of him. Even after all the years the death of parents still got to her. A warm strong gently wrapped it self around hers.
“I understand. I almost lost my mother a few years back.” said Kurama
“It's a horrible feeling.”
“It is.” Kurama understood completely. After all he was the one who had stolen the forlorn hope to save his mother from the sickness that was killing her. After all he felt it was his fault that his mother had ended up sick, the guilt was too much at the time and he thought it would kill him. Once dinner was over Kurama offered to help wash the dishes, which Makoto took complete advantage of.
“Good night, Makoto.” said Kurama when the dishes were done.
“Shiuichi, you don't have to call me by my full name. Please call me Mako or Mako-chan.” said Makoto.
Kurama nodded, “Night, Mako.”
“Night, Shiuichi-kun.”
