Sailor Moon Fan Fiction ❯ An American Boy in Tokyo ❯ Meet the Parents ( Chapter 12 )
Mina stayed over again that night, only this time, she told her mother the truth about where she was. After letting me speak with her father for a few minutes, the duo of parents finally consented and gave me an entire array of phone numbers to call if something happened. Another condition, was that I had to go with Mina to her house to meet them. When we got there and they saw me, they were both shocked.
"Son, how old are you?"
"Seventeen sir." I replied smiling.
"Where are your parents, Alex?" Her mom asked.
"I was emancipated two years ago." I replied. They looked shocked. "It was uncontested, my parents knew I would be fine." I said.
"Wow, so where do you work?"
"In my basement, I'm an inventor."
"I see, is the income reliable?" Her father asked. I shrugged.
"It fluxuates every now and again, depending on what I'm working on, how long it takes to build the proto-type and market the patent."
"So how do you feed yourself?" Her father asked.
"Oh, no, you misunderstood me, sir. It fluxuates, but I have a tidy little nest egg of somewhere in the neighborhood of two hundred thousand dollars saved up." I said. "It just keeps growing too." I smiled at them.
"Wow! Where'd you get that from?"
"Daddy, are all these questions really necessary?" Mina asked.
"Mina, honey, I'm just trying to find out what kind of boy we're dealing with here." He replied.
"It's okay, I don't mind, the money came from royalties from some of my earlier inventions." I looked around the house. "I don't see any...ah, there's one." I said walking over to the television set. I looked at the Nintendo Game Cube and picked up on of the games. "You know how these disks are so small?" I asked.
"Yeah, I've always wondered how they got so much data on such a small disk." Her father said.
"It's because I showed them a new formatting style. They could fit a movie on one of these disks that has as much footage as fifteen VHS cassettes." I said. "I'm still collecting royalties on these things." I said examining the disk inside slightly, then putting it back. "Let me know next time you buy a game, I'll give you the royalties I collect on it, back." I said. "Fifteen percent." I answered his next question before he even asked it.
"Really?" He asked. "Well, um, Mina, hurry up and get your things, I'm sure Alex is anxious to go do whatever it is you kids are going...to...do...which brings me to my next subject..." He started.
"Daddy!" Mina said. I held up a hand and smiled.
"It's okay, I came prepared for this one." I said. "Sir, I know what you're going to ask, at least if you're like any other caring parent, I do. And believe I am not going to hurt your daughter in any way, shape, or form." I said. He smiled.
"Yes, but what if you have sex?" He asked. "If she consents to it, you wouldn't be hurting her. Not that I think she would or anything, but..."
"If it happens, sir, you can bet that I'll follow it up with a ring and a question." I said. "If not the other way around."
"Are you sure you're ready for that sort of thing?" He asked.
"No sir, I'm not sure. Nobody really ever is sure that they are, at least that's what I've been told. But I'm falling for Mina, while I'm not exactly sure how to define these feelings just yet, if it's not love, it will be before long." I stopped and thought about what I had just said. "That sounded a lot better in my head than it did out loud." I said.
"It's okay, Alex, I know what you're saying. I'll say this much about you, I am impressed, you're the only boy she's ever brought home to score a one hundred on the father interrogation." He said. "Which is bad news for Mina." He said.
"What do you mean, Daddy?" Mina asked.
"Well, Alex here has just set a new precident, every boy you bring home after him, should there be any more, will be sized up to him."
"Well what kind of chance do I stand there?" I said making a joke about my height, he laughed.
"Oh ho ho, and a comedian to boot." He said. "I'm going to bed, maybe I'll wake up and you'll actually exist, my boy." He said. "You kids have fun." he said walking off. Mina grabbed her clothes and we said our goodbyes going back to the car.
"You have absolutely no idea what you've just done, do you?" She asked, not looking at me.
"Um, earned your parents trust and respect?" I asked.
"Bingo." she replied. "Nobody has ever done that before." She smiled and finally looked over at me, I sighed.
"Human Camelion." I replied. "The trick is, to let them do most of the talking. Then address only the situation that applies, not giving away any unwanted information." I said starting the car and backing down the driveway.
