Chapter 11: Matchmaking Follies: Part 1

The birds chirp outside the windows while the sun rose awakening the living from their slumber. Bright Aqua eyes stare out the window unmindful of the glories of yet another beautiful morning. Cradling a cup of coffee, she sits pondering the thoughts that had been recently plaguing her mind.
“Michi”
MICHI!”
“Hey, baby. Is everything alright?” A voice from behind her asks while a warm hand is placed on her bare skin while dark eyes gaze at her with a thoughtful expression in them.
“Yes, Ruka. I'm just fine. I was just thinking about the situation between Usa and that girl Rei,” Michiru states before taking a sip of her coffee before staring into it in concentration. “I know that those two like each other, but they are both too stubborn to realize it. We should help them, love.”
“I really don't think that, Usa, will want the help, baby,” Haruka states before sitting down in a chair in front of her fiancé.
“I know that she's not going to like it, but it still might help them to at least realize it and it's not like the plan is to help them directly more like indirectly, but I don't know what to do right at the moment,” Michiru states while furrowing her eyebrows before looking up at her fiancé with a thoughtful look on her face. “What do you suggest?”
“Aside from beating them upside the head with a really thick tree branch?” Haruka asks while chuckling softly to herself. “Well, then I guess what we need to do is step them up.”
The two women sit there for a moment pondering that thought before Haruka looks up sharply and snaps her fingers while a devilish look comes across her face.
“I've got it,” she states before jumping up from her chair and runs off to make some phone calls.
Michiru watches her love leave the room then smiles down into her cup of coffee. `Watch out, Usa. You wont know what hit you,' she thinks before getting up from her chair to join Haruka in the study.
`She's just trying to suck up, cause she knows I'm still mad at her for the bruises that she was covered in when she came home,' Michiru thinks before helping Haruka with the arrangements.

Usagi shoves her hands into her pants pockets while she makes her way downstairs while thinking about how the entire week went with Hotaru not talking to her once during the entire week. Hotaru was really going overboard with this situation, whatever the situation was, because for the life of her she couldn't remember exactly what she had done wrong to her Aunt in the first place. Growling softly she storms off to the Tea room. Opening the door, she enters the room making sure to slam the door closed behind her.
“What the hell is your problem Hotaru?” she demands while she glares at the girl who is currently playing a song on her guitar. The girl doesn't say anything to Usagi's out burst, instead merely continues playing, acting as though the other girl in the room doesn't exist. This only seemed to agitate Usagi further. She lets out a huff before of air before striding over to the girl and pulls the guitar away from her almost smashing the butt of the guitar against her head.
“Watch what you're doing jerk,” Hotaru shouts out angrily with a look of rage on her face.
“Well, what do you expect me to do? You're acting like a child,” Usagi barks, her face red from the anger that's coursing through her.
“That coming from you is hilarious,” Hotaru growls out while she narrows her eyes at the blonde standing in front of her. She gets up to escape from her niece, but Usagi doesn't allow her to get away that easily and instead she grabs Hotaru's hand and pulls her back.
“What the hell is wrong with you? What the hell did I do? Was it because you saw me dancing with Yomiko? It wasn't like I wanted to begin with. Why can't you accept that? Wh-“
A sharp slap sends the platinum blonde reeling backwards. Blinking her eyes, she gazes at Hotaru who stands in front of her seething in anger.
“How can you say that? How can you stand there and say it doesn't mean anything to you? How can you act so calm about it? Are you that hard up that you can't except that I like Yomiko? Do you want her for yourself? Is that it?”
In a flash Hotaru face is snapping to the side, her cheek burning from the slap that she had just received. She touches her cheek and looks up in astonishment that her cousin had just slapped her. In all her years living with Usagi, the platinum blonde had never once lifted her hand against her and the fact that she had just slapped her caused her to shut her mouth and just stare at her Aunt.
Seeing the shock that is residing on Hotaru's face, causes Usagi to soften her gaze slightly.
“Hotaru, you know that I've never had a girl friend. It's not that I can't get one or that I don't want one. It's just that I'm afraid that they'll find out and all hell will break loose soon after. I'm not trying to take, Yomiko away from you. I don't want her and it's the truth when I say that I didn't want to dance with her. Besides all she talked about the entire time we danced were you. Yes, she has moved on but not without you. I always see the way she looks at you and I know she misses you a lot. She keeps on sending you invitations and letters doesn't she? But you're pushing her away and for what? So that you will feel better since she pushed you away when you two were getting to deep? She was afraid for you Hotaru. Not for herself, but for you. Maybe you aught to talk to her about it so that you can get the entire story, cause she told it to me.”
Hotaru's eyes grow wide in horror at Usagi's words; all this time she had thought she had given Yomiko the easy path when she had broken away from the younger girl and allowed her to live her own life. Never did had she dreamed that she was causing the pink haired girl such distress. She always seemed happy whenever she would come to see her.
“Since you've been avoiding her, she told me to tell you that her family will be moving back to Japan, because her mother didn't like England all that much.”
Usagi watches while Hotaru lets the information that she had just given her sink in.
“Seems like she really wants you to be a part of her life again,” Usagi states while she walks past her Aunt before pausing at the door and looks back at Hotaru.
“Seems to me that she is willing to be in your life again and that she loves you very much.”
`Yeah, it seems so,' Hotaru thinks morosely before watching her niece walk silently out of the room then sits down heavily into a chair.
`Yomiko…'
`God, I'm such an idiot for thinking the way I've been thinking.'
Frowning slightly, she pulls a small pillow from the arm of the couch and hugs it to her chest before touching her red cheek gently. The slap Usagi had given her hadn't been as hard as the one she had dished out. Her eyes glistens with tears that slid down her heated cheeks gently, her niece was right and that only hurt more.

Some hours had passed with Usagi sitting up in the tree that she and Hotaru used to climb when they were younger. She leans back against the trunk while watching the sky up above darken with the coming night then lets out a sigh before flicking her bangs out of her eyes. Maybe she had been too harsh with Hotaru, or maybe not harsh enough. She wasn't sure. All she knew was that she didn't want her cousin making a stupid mistake and avoid having that close relationship she had with Yomiko, a relationship that she had envied when Hotaru had told her about it. She places her face in her hands while she remembered Hotaru walking into the mansion with Yomiko on her arm, laughing, hugging and just being a loving couple that, many times, Usagi wished she could have with someone that was as special to Hotaru as Yomiko was.
She couldn't remember the last time someone had touched her out of love besides her family nor could she remember the close companionship that she had when she was a young girl. It was true that her best friend from when she was younger was back in her life, but she felt like such an outsider after all these years that she wasn't sure where she stood with Makoto anymore.
“There you are!” a voice shouts. The cry startles her making her almost topple off the branch that she's perched on. Balancing herself quickly, she looks down at the gleaming figure and raises her eyebrows in suspicion for there standing beneath her is a grinning Haruka which was never a good thing or at least in her mind it wasn't, especially when Michiru was around with Haruka grinning the exact same way.
`They're up to something,' she muses for a moment and roll her eyes slightly.
“Come on we've been looking all over for you,” Haruka states while wrapping an arm around Michiru's shoulders.
`Why?' She wonders for a moment while furrowing her eyebrows. Her question was answered when Shinzu came running out of the mansion with a bag strapped over her shoulder while waving wildly at them
“USA-NIISAMA!” she shouts in delight while jumping up and down under the tree.
“Haruka and Michiru are taking us out,” she states while continuing to jump around.
Haruka smiles while she ruffles Shinzu's hair before looking up at Usagi whose eyes are growing wider by the second.
Usagi groans inwardly because she had been looking forward to simply moping around in her room for the rest of the day.
When her feet touch the ground, she's grabbed by her arms and dragged off towards the mansion for a “relaxing outing,” according to Haruka. For Usagi that meant booze, loud music and snobby women who pretended to be gay for the rush it while they complain about foods they couldn't eat because they were dieting to look good while they glare at those who didn't care. She had received enough evil eyes and death glares to last her a lifetime in her last trip with Haruka. She sure as hell didn't want a repeat but it didn't seem like she had a choice with the vice like grip on her shoulder keeping her place right beside Haruka so she couldn't make a mad dash in the other direction.
“I know just the thing to cheer you up and give you some time to relax,” Haruka announces which causes Usagi to shudder before wondering what hell awaited her at the end of this trip.

Hotaru stares at the phone that's in her hand in surprise before putting it back against her ear. “I'm sorry, Makoto. Could you please repeat that?” Hotaru asks while she furrows her eyebrows at what she thought she heard.
“We won tickets to the hot springs in the area and I wanted to know if you would want to come with us. We've got two extra tickets and I figured that I'd ask you and Ami if you wanted to come with us.”
“Makoto, you know I can't. If I go it'll give my identity away,” Hotaru hisses into the phone while looking around to make sure that her father wasn't anywhere near the phone.
“I've got that covered, Taru. Look, I didn't really win the tickets okay. Your sister Haruka called me up and told me a plan to get Usagi and Rei together,” Makoto whispers into the phone while looking around to make sure neither Rei nor Minako had heard her.
“Oh! That would explain why Haruka called me up asking for your cell phone number. This must be, Michiru's idea. Alright, count me in,” Hotaru states while twisting a lock of hair around her finger. “We'll figure out what to do about me not going into the hot springs with you later.”
“That's great. We'll be over to pick you up and then we'll be on our way. Could you please ask Ami-chan if she would like to come with us? I don't have her phone number.”
“Sure, no problem, Makoto,” Hotaru states while a smile tugs across her face when she hears the hopefulness in the other girls voice.
“Good, oh before I forget. Pack an overnight bag. The tickets are for today and tomorrow. We'll be leaving at noon from there.”
“Alright, I'll let my father know and then I'll ask Ami is she wants to come. I'll call you back to let you know if she said yes or not,” Hotaru states while walking through the mansion to find her step niece.
“Alright, see you then,” Makoto's voice states before a clicking noise sounds letting Hotaru know that she had hung up.
Hotaru closes her cell phone and lets out a sigh before shaking her head. `What are you two thinking of doing?' She asks herself before stopping in front of Ami's door and knocks on it softly.
A quiet voice answers her knock and she opens the door to go into the room only to see Ami sitting at her desk with a bunch of books spread out in front of her.
“Hey, Makoto just called and wanted to know if we wanted to go with her and the girls to the hot springs. You game?” Hotaru asks before taking a seat on Ami's bed and watches the girl's bent head for a moment.
“Taru, are you a girl?” Ami's voice suddenly asks making Hotaru look up sharply at her step niece before letting out a nervous chuckle.
“Whatever would give you that idea?” Hotaru asks while looking around the room trying to come up with a reason that Ami had figured out her secret.
“Nate-san is, I know that. I didn't know at first, but when he/she was talking with Makoto about their child hood it sort of clicked into my head. Well, maybe not so much, Makoto, but her information didn't fit together with Rei's. I started thinking it over until finally I came up with the reason it wasn't fitting together. The reason I came up with is, that Makoto is Nate's best friend from their early years of school, while Rei said that Makoto had a friend that was a girl. Put the two together and you get that Nate-san isn't a boy, but a girl,” Ami states before looking back towards Hotaru who swallowed nervously.
“How does that have anything to do with me?” Hotaru asks while she furrows her brows. “Just because, Usagi isn't a boy doesn't mean the same thing for me.”
“Yeah, that's true, but then I remembered my mother telling my once about my family and how many step brothers she had in comparison to how many step sisters which is two. They are the youngest. So that means that you and Haruka are the younger step sisters,” Ami states in a matter of fact tone.
Hotaru runs her fingers through her hair and looks down at the floor for a moment before looking back up towards Ami. “Look, Ami, you can't tell anyone. Alright? The situation is hard to explain, but trust me when I say that if Haruka, Usagi or myself is found out then we will have to move, no not just move, but be disowned.”
“Alright, I understand, Taru. Well maybe not about why you have to pretend to be a boy, but at least the reason you want it kept secret. That much I do understand and I promise not to give away your secret either,” Ami states with a slight smile on her face. “Though I wish you would've told me.”
“It was easier for you, to not know. Not because we were worried about you telling anyone, but more along the lines of the stress that it might put you through,” Hotaru states with a slight smile on her own face. “So, now that, that's out of the way. Do you want to go with the girls and me to the hot springs?”
“I'll have to let Sets know where I'm going, but other then that, yeah,” Ami states with a larger smile on her face.
“Great! I'll go let my father know then tell Setsuna where you're going. Oh and pack an over night bag cause we'll be staying there until tomorrow,” Hotaru states before getting up off the bed and heads for the door feeling a little bit lighter then when she had entered the room.
“Have you and Usagi made up?” Ami asks softly causing Hotaru to stop in her tracks.
Hotaru turns to the girl and then looks up at the ceiling for a moment then lets out a soft sight.
“Yeah, I think we have. She made me realize that I was doing something wrong and that what happened at the party wasn't the way it looked like,” Hotaru whispers before looking at the girl again and lets a smile come over her face. “It'll be okay.”
Ami nods before getting up from the desk and goes about the room looking for a bag to pack for the overnight stay while Hotaru goes off to look for her father and Setsuna.

little moonbeam: Nice to know that you think that I'm a great writer. Thank you very much for the compliment and thank you for the review. Keep them coming.
Riku: Yeah, I thought that I'd throw that little bit in there to add a bit of a twist to the story. I'm glad that it's going over pretty well. Lol. As for Ami to figure it out. Well she is sort of an outsider so she sees things differently then everyone else. As to what's going to happen next? You'll just have to keep reading to find out. Lol. Thank you for the review. Always a pleasure to get one from you! Keep them coming!
Aleric: I wasn't really satisfied with the fight scene, but I'm glad that it's going over well with everyone. As for Usagi getting her lumps, well, it just wouldn't be that realistic if she didn't get hurt as well. I really don't like stories where the hero comes out of a fight unharmed, though I don't like seeing my hero harmed to begin with it, it just seems to make the story a lot better for some reason. Shrugs
As for Usagi and Rei not remembering, it's because they were little kids at the time with grade school crushes and after a while of not seeing one another they had forgotten because time changes them and Usagi has changed the most. So, I hope that helps explain that. Though I think it's has a little bit to do with their fighting too. They don't want to see that the person they are fighting with is someone that they used to like.
Thank you for the review and keep them coming!
a person writing a review: Well your suspicions would be correct. Yomiko is Chibi-Usa. Lol.
Yeah. I had a lot of fun writing that part of the chapter, though I felt a little unsatisfied with the way the fight turned out, but at least it's going over well.
Heh. You'll just have to find out what's going to happen next. I do like that little twist that I threw in chapter 10. It was really good and it might have a purpose later, but that's all I'm giving you. Lol. Thank you for the review!
Stormforce: Ahh Stormforce, let me just say that this review was great. I enjoyed reading it and it posed some good insight into the story. Thank you. Now lets begin.
As for your question about whether or not the girls will continue to be jealous, well now that's a good one. More then likely the girls will continue to be jealous if not more so after the next couple of chapters. As for the question about the fight between Rei and the girls. That's not a bad idea and I'd like to thank you for that. I hadn't thought about that before. I just might put that in there.
I haven't thought about how to deal with Mamoru's gang leaving him or what he's going to do as for right now, because the next couple of chapters are going to be dedicated to the match making that I had mentioned in a pervious chapter so wait for that because it probably wont be showing up for a little bit. I'm planning on having three parts for the matchmaking follies. So stay tuned for hilarious situations and tempers flying! Lol.
Though it would've been funny to add Michiru crossing her shoulders at Haruka's bruises I decided not to put that in there and get to the match making stage. While it would've been funny I didn't do that, however I did make a reference to that day. Lol.
That little bit that was tosses into the story actually happened to me when I was in grade school. Lol. I used a little bit of myself for that story and I'm glad that it went over well because I wasn't sure if it would. As for Ami finding out about Nate. Well, as you see I went a different direction with that one. I hope that I wrote it out to be believable enough.
Ah ah. I'm not going to answer those questions about Rei remembering. That's for the next three parts. Lol. You'll just have to find out where I'm going with that one. Lol. But you do pose some really good questions though. I'll have to keep them in mind while writing up the next two parts.
I'm glad that you thought that I did it justice. I wasn't so sure about it and was sort of worried how this last chapter would be taken by the readers, but I'm thinking that my worries were for nothing because everyone seems to have enjoyed it.
The insight into what happen between Yomiko and Hotaru will be coming right after the next two chapters along with Mamoru's revenge of that I can assure you. Lol. Yeah, Utena is another one of my favorites as well, so it just seemed fiting somehow.
Never bored with reviews. They give me a lot of insight and I like it when people pose questions to me. I can't always answer them because some of the questions are to close to what I want to do that I just can't without giving away the plot of the story, so no I'm never bored with long reviews. Getting reviews like that help me out as well and I like the insight and the questions and even suggestions that sometimes come out of them.
And with that, I say thank you and to keep it up with the reviews!
