Chapter 13 - Princess of Venus
By Angel Love
Author's notes: This chapter skips quite a bit of time, as it says in the beginning line. It kind of explains why the Starlights have a male form on Earth. It also goes into more detail about one of the chapters in Finding Destiny itself.
Standard disclaimers apply. I don't own Sailor Moon. I've tried to win the rights to at least one of the senshi but they just laughed at me and hung up the phone. I also don't own the Greek Gods or any of the characters that I have borrowed from various places to fashion them after. The Guardians are mine however. I promise that I won't laugh and hang up on you if you at least ask me first before using them.
Time seemed to pass both quickly and slowly for us. We watched as peace seemed to settle with ease throughout the galaxies.
We spent most of our time searching for scouts to pass along our powers to. Rosely has been the first to choose and settle the ones would be her successors. She chose two girls from her home planet to be Sailor Galaxia and Kaos. The next to choose her senshi had been Brenna surprisingly. She chose four girls who formed the Anima Mates or Sailor Iron Mouse, Aluminum Siren, Lead Crow, and Tin Cat. Osmound had been the next to choose his own Sailor Scouts, but from a different planet in his solar system and actually chose five girls to form his senshi, Lete, Mnemosyne, Heavymetal Papillon, Phi and Chi. Chesna had been a little picky about choosing but finally settled with four young girls to form the Amazon Quartet.
Vega was almost intolerable to everyone but me when he had went on his own search for his senshi, often taking me along with him because he said he wanted my opinion on the souls of the people he was looking at, since I had the ability to look into a mortal's heart. He had finally decided on going with the princess of his planet, making her the leader of his senshi, or Sailor Fireball. The other three he chose made the Sailor Starlights. But what intrigued me the most about the other three that he had chosen is that they were male. I had worried over the fact that Rosely had been animate about the fact that she had not wanted any male senshi, stating that if two sailors were to get together the offspring would be almost too powerful to control if they went bad. Vega had merely smiled at me and informed me that they had already agreed to give up their male forms when they became Sailors Starfighter, Starmaker, and Starhealer. I wasn't completely sure that I liked this idea but it was not my decision or my planets, so I nodded my head when he asked me if the three boys would be excellent scouts, strangely drawn to the one with the beautiful midnight eyes.
The last to choose senshi were Rose and I, both of us wanting to make sure that we would not be putting too much responsibility on someone who could not handle it. Rose had still yet to choose someone for the powers over the one that would be Sailor Saturn and its destructive powers. It was a terrible burden to carry, a bit like the powers of time. We had finally decided to go with the princesses of the planets, not because they were of royal blood but because they had all the qualities we had been searching for.
Although they had been chosen and their parents, as well as the Supreme Queen Serenity had been told, none of the inners, my senshi, or outers, Rose's senshi, had been given their powers yet. We wanted them to be able to grow up a bit in order to fully understand their powers, since they were only five and six year olds.
Rose and I had debated for quite some time before we decided to give them their powers at age eight since they would have Pluto silently watching them in order to keep them from getting into too much trouble, or if need be, a little guidance in their powers, seeing as the Guardian of Time knew just how each of the powers worked from training with Rose and myself.
I had quietly watched my little sister as the years rolled by. She had become quiet and mysterious to all of those around her. She preferred to spend time observing instead of interacting. She shunned most of the male race when they attempted to approach her. I didn't really blame her for the last. I knew from watching Chesna and Osmound that it was hard to love someone when you knew they would pass away while you continued to live on forever without them.
I could not say for certain that was the reason behind Trista's solitude though. Her only friends were Serenity and the two cat-human guardians, Luna and Artemis, although she did keep them a little at a distance. It was not even the reason why I had chosen not to get involved with someone, even though I had seen plenty of handsome young men whenever I ventured into the mortal realms. I had simply not found anyone that sent of a spark inside me that made me want more than simple friendship. I already had companionship with Eros, Hades and occasionally Ares.
Chesna and Rosely found the fact that I was already approaching two thousand years old and was still untouched by a man quite amusing since none of the rest of the Guardians were. They had teased that I should have been another Goddess' successor and not Aphrodite's since I obviously didn't have her libido or the number of lovers. Rose and Eros were always coming to my defense even though I always shrugged them off. Rose liked to suggest that I was happy with the way things were and when I wanted a change I would make it. Eros always had a look cross over his face and he would merely say quietly that my heart belonged to someone already and it was merely looking for him and would not settle for anyone else.
Chesna always giggled at them, usually turning to tease Rose, since she had an on again off again relationship with Hades since we had come to be Guardians. Both of them had lovers during the times that they were apart, although they always remained close to each other. Rosely on the other hand would merely go quiet and look at me with a strange expression in her eyes before disappearing like she tended to do.
It was after one of these teasing sessions and Chesna had finally gone off on her way that Trista showed up in our private chambers. I was lounging across one of our red velvet couches as Eros wrapped my ankle with support wrap. I had twisted it during a sparring match with Vega earlier that morning. Rose was laying back on some cushions on the floor, her eyes closed and a smirk on her face as she listened to the brotherly bantering going back and forth between Eros and Hades.
I turned my head about the same time as Rose did, both of us sensing the Gates of Time before the mist filled the room and the big white doors appeared. Sailor Pluto walked through the Gates and waved her staff, making them disappear behind her. She greeted us with a warm smile and a nod before she settled down on one of the chairs, putting her staff in her space pocket.
I lifted an eyebrow at her. "What do you wish to talk to us about?"
Trista blinked a little at me before her face took on her mysterious appeal. "How do you know I did not simply wish to spend time with you?"
I giggled a little, enjoying the amusement I could see in Trista's eyes. "Not that I think you don't want to see us, but you didn't detransform. It is a giveaway that you have something on your mind."
She smiled softly, nodding her head a bit. "I do, but first..." She turned her eyes to my ankle that was still being cradled in Eros' hand. "What happened?"
I shrugged and Rose answered softly for me since she knew I was not going to, our mental link having grown strong enough that we usually could tell what the other was thinking and feeling without trying. "Vega caught her ankle with his whip when he couldn't pull it back in time and ended up causing her to twist it and burn it a little magically right through her boots. It didn't help that it took them some time to untangle it from her."
Trista smirked when I blushed and found my fingernails rather interesting. She knew that I hated it when I lost a match to Vega over something like getting tangled in his whip. It didn't happen often but it was a source of amusement to my sisters.
Eros came to my rescue by clearing his throat softly. "Tris, what did you wish to discuss?"
Trista instantly went serious. "I am aware that you do not wish any of the senshi to know of who you are or where their powers come from, but I think you may need to break that rule."
Hades' eyebrows went up. "What would be happening that Angel or Rose would have to reveal themselves?"
Trista sighed. "You are aware that the queen of Venus passed away about a year ago?"
I nodded slowly, trying to follow where Trista was going. "Yes, I remember that it was quite a sad occasion. The kingdom is still mourning the loss of their beloved queen."
Rose nodded, watching Trista, clearly wondering as well just what was on the younger immortal's mind.
The senshi of Pluto sighed softly. "Yes, they are. The one that is taking it the hardest is the king himself."
Eros looked sympathetic. "That is understandable, Tris. She was his wife and she died very suddenly. He was not at all prepared for such a loss; he was really quite close to her."
A dark sad look crossed over Hades' face and I couldn't help but reach over the arm of his chair and gently take his hand in mine. I knew that there were aspects of what he did that he hated. One of the biggest things that he hated about death was the mourning of the loved ones left behind.
Trista gave Eros a small smile, indicating that she understood why the king of Venus was having a hard time coping. "Yes, but it is the fact that he refuses to see the princess of Venus that worried me."
He nodded thoughtfully. "She does look remarkably like her mother. Perhaps at this time he can't face that right now."
Trista nodded again. "I believe that is the case but the child is becoming isolated and withdrawn from those around her. Her only real companion is her nurse and she isn't exactly the most loving, nurturing person." She looked at me. "Princess Mina would not suit the powers that you wish to pass along to her if this continues the way that I am seeing them."
I looked thoughtful for a long moment. "You are right. Perhaps it is time to step in and offer a change that will benefit Mina the most."
Hades cocked his head at me. "Just what kind are you thinking of?"
I held up a finger as I tried to sort out my thoughts in order to be able to form the right plan of action. "Serenity has a daughter the same age as Princess Mina, does she not?"
Trista nodded. "She does. Her name is Serenity as well, since it is a name that is passed down among the first female born. If you had not already chosen Mina as the successor of the powers of love I would have recommended her."
I smiled softly. I knew that this comment from Trista was indeed high praise. "I did consider her, but she is the Supreme Princess and it would not be wise for her to die in battle if she were to become a senshi. A senshi's life is not free from danger. I did not want to put her in that risk. She would make for one heck of a senshi though."
Hades cleared his throat softly, bringing our attention to him. "Why did you ask about her? What does she have anything to do with Princess Mina?"
I blinked before sitting up completely, my soft blue dress sliding down over my legs. "Oh! The reason I asked is because I was thinking about having Mina go live on the moon. I am sure that she and Princess Serenity would get along great. They both need friends because they are both pretty isolated from those around them due to their statuses. I am also sure that Queen Serenity can guide Mina in ways that only a mother can."
Trista's eyes took on a distant look before she smiled. "I think that will be the best solution. I will go make the request to Serenity and then talk to King Aton about sending his daughter to the moon where she can grow up and become a strong Senshi of Love."
I bit my lip. "Why don't I go with you to Venus? Someone needs to help Mina understand why she is moving. I can help there."
Rose frowned at me. "By doing that you would be giving away yourself and the other Guardians, Angel."
I shook my head. "No, Tris and I can limit who sees me. And I do not need to tell anyone who I really am. The fact that the mysterious Pluto is visiting will gather enough attention away from me," I teased my little sister with a grin.
Trista smirked and stood, choosing not to comment. "I will talk to Serenity. I am sure I will be back shortly with her answer and then we may make a plan to retrieve the princess."
I nodded as Trista opened the Gates and disappeared. Eros and Hades went back to their bantering as Rose and I both took up our relaxed positions again, mentally talking to each other. She was still worried that I would cause attention to shift to the mysterious senshi that now only a few knew the legend that spoke of them saving the galaxies. I sighed softly, knowing that there were indeed risks, but the future Sailor Venus was worth them to me.
It was about a week later when Trista and I decided that it was time to give the Princess Mina a new home. We went in our senshi forms since Pluto seemed to awe those around her and she would have a much easier time convincing the king if she was in the form as well as with the letter from the Supreme Queen requesting the young princess to join her on the moon.
We both breathed small sighs of relief when we found Princess Mina alone with her nurse in her small playground inside the castle grounds.
The nurse, a small mousy thing, turned very pale and nervous at the sight of us but instantly nodded her head in respect to Sailor Pluto. She hovered around us as she waited to hear whatever we wanted.
Pluto and I nodded to each other, knowing that time was short and we had to get things done before more servants came around and spotted me.
I watched as she spoke quietly to the nurse before the poor scared girl nodded and led her inside the castle in order to seek out Mina's father.
I turned and smiled at the little girl, who was watching me with open curiosity. I slowly made my way over to her and knelt down in front of her, studying her youthful face. Her big blue eyes were wide with wonder and her silky blonde hair fell down in a golden waterfall around her, catching the light ever so slightly. She was going to be every bit as beautiful as the purity of her soul. I smiled sweetly at her but blinked in surprise when she suddenly burst into tears. It had not been the response that I had expected from her.
As I heard her whimper for her mother I knew she had merely missed her and because I was also blonde like her mommy, I reminded her of the woman who had meant everything to her, everything until suddenly she was gone, taken from her life, leaving her feeling lost and abandoned as well as confused as to why her mommy wasn't there.
I gathered her into my arms like how I used to hold Trista when she was little and gently rocked her, running my fingers through her golden hair. I sung softly to her, gentle soothing lullabies in Greek, which I am sure she didn't understand because very few people who did not live on Earth knew the language. It didn't seem to matter to her if she couldn't understand it because she cuddled into me and slowly settled, listening to my soft soprano rise and fall with the gentle weaving notes.
I stayed cradling her for what seemed like several hours as she slowly opened up and chattered to me about anything that her young mind could think of, including the death of her mother and her father's sudden abandonment. I do have to admit that I enjoyed holding the young princess, smoothing her hair and talking quietly to her. It had been a long time since I had done it but evidently my maternal side was still very much intact despite the fact that there were no children in the Immortal realm that I could pamper.
It was much too soon when Pluto appeared again in front of us and nodded her head, letting me know that the king had approved of my plan. I gently turned Mina to look at me, speaking quietly to her. "You are going to live on the moon now. There is a young princess there that I am sure you will just love and get along with wonderfully so you won't be so lonely anymore."
Mina nodded, looking up at me with her big beautiful eyes. "Are you going to come with me and live there too?"
I sighed softly and shook my head. "No you will go there with Sailor Pluto and you will make friends all on your own."
Mina suddenly clung to me, holding on as tight as her little hands could. "But I want you to go with me!"
I closed my eyes and hugged her tightly, remembering when I had sent Trista on her own as well. I whispered softly in the young princess' ear, "You are a child of love, Mina. You have such a bright future ahead of you. And great friends waiting to meet you."
I slowly let her go and led her over to Pluto, who took her hand gently, giving me a sympathetic look because she recognized the pain in my eyes. I watched as my little sister turned and reopened the Gates of Time, trying to fight the tears that wanted to escape. I had not realized that I had become attached to the little girl in such a short time.
They were about to walk through the Gates when Mina tugged on Pluto's hand and turned her big blue eyes to me. "Am I ever going to see you again?" she asked in a voice that had a single tear slipping down my cheek.
I summoned all of my strength to wink at her and give her a warm, loving smile. "I am your guardian angel. I will be there when you need me. Remember I am never far away."
This seemed to brighten the little girl's spirits again because she gave me a big beautiful smile and bounced into the Gates of Time.
I stood alone in front of the big white door for a moment, looking over Venus with silent tears on my face. I finally took a deep breath to settle myself, and the longing for something that could never be. I would never have a child of my own or be able to take the friendship that the little princess had offered me. But I in turn gave her a chance at a new life and new happiness. This made me smile and it helped to lighten my heart again. My eyes were soft as I pictured just how much the little girl would enjoy her new life and my steps were buoyant as I stepped through the Gates to return to my own home again as the Guardian of Love, the watcher of the Sailor Scouts.
