Sailor Moon Fan Fiction ❯ Makoto's Secret ❯ part two ( Chapter 2 )

[ P - Pre-Teen ]

The doorbell rang. It was early in the morning, but Makoto was already dressed. Thanks to Haruka's care she was almost back to normal. Just a few sniffs from time to time showed that she's been sick lately. She went over to the door with a big dose of hope and happiness, but when she opened it she was greatly disappointed. Outside were standing Usagi, Rei, Minako and Ami.

"I don't think we're welcomed here." Smirked Rei seeing Makoto's disappointment.

" I think she's waiting for someone else." Usagi walked right in without hesitation and started to sniff around. Nothing was going to stop her. "Isn't that right, Mako-chan?" Makoto felt guilty. She invited the rest of the group in and offered them some tea. Everybody finally sat down. Nobody wanted to begin the conversation. The situation felt rather awkward.

"I…" Makoto finally started. Ami looked up at her.

"That's ok, Mako-chan." She smiled. "You don't have to explain." Usagi was all ears. "Explain what?" she asked.

"You don't get it, as usual." Rei shook her head.

"Get what?" Usagi was jumping from place to place.

"Nothing." Rei smirked.

"There has to be something or there wouldn't be anything for me to get." Usagi insisted.

"There she goes again." Rei gave up on Usagi's intelligence long time ago. While Usagi was trying to get out of Rei what there was to understand, Makoto noticed that Minako has been unusually quiet.

"What's the matter, Minako-chan?" Makoto asked, but the other girl didn't even react to it, almost like she wasn't even there. Ami leaned over and whispered

"She thinks her heart isn't pure, because the Death Busters haven't try to snatch it from her." Hearing it Makoto coughed several times and her eyes got really big. The other girls stopped arguing.

"You can't be serious." Makoto exclaimed. She grabbed Minako's shoulders and started shaking her vigorously. At first Minako wasn't sure what it was about.

"Of course I'm not." She said when she realized what Makoto meant. The blond girl smiled cheerfully, but her eyes showed something different. Makoto saw determination in her friend's eyes and it scared her.

"Anyway, I need to go to the library" Minako continued. "I'll see you all later." And without waiting for anybody to respond she left the room.

"We need to do something about it." Makoto started the moment the door closed behind her friend. "We need to follow her, protect her from herself." All the other girls agreed. They got up and went to look for Minako. They got to the library just in time to see her leave. Makoto caught a glimpse of Haruka and wanted to go inside and talk to her, but Rei pulled her towards the park. Makoto felt disappointed all over again, especially when she noticed that Haruka wasn't alone. "Isn't Michiru ever going to disappear?" she thought. "She's only in the way." Still in thoughts Makoto heard her friends scream and she saw Minako's pure heart floating in the air. She noticed a familiar station wagon and immediately recognized Eudial. "So it happened." She thought angry, "Minako finally got her wish, but what good is it going to bring. She reached for her transformation stick, but something strange happened. Minako, instead falling down unconscious, grabbed her pure heart crystal and ran into a nearby garage. They quickly followed her. The last thing they saw before the door was blocked, was Haruka and Michiru sneaking inside.

"No!" Makoto yelled and quickly transformed. She had to do something. Haruka was trapped and her friends were in there with her. She knew Sailor Moon could take care of herself most of the time, but this time there were two other innocent lives at stake. She and the other Senshi tried all their powers to remove the blockade. Nothing worked. Makoto was getting desperate. It seemed like it was taking forever. Finally the door opened. Sailor Jupiter started to rush in. She wasn't sure what she was going to find. She just hoped that her Haruka was still alive. She didn't get far when Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune came out of the garage. Everybody was surprised to see them. "How did they get in there?" Jupiter wasn't sure what to think. The strange girls passed them without saying a word. Sailor Moon and Sailor Venus soon followed them out.

"Haruka! Michiru!" Sailor Moon called and to everybody's surprise Uranus and Neptune stopped and turned around. "Why can't we fight together?" Sailor Moon persisted. Sailor Uranus just smirked.

"Our goal is to find the three treasures. You'll only be in the way!" Sailor Neptune turned around and walked away. Sailor Uranus quickly gazed at Jupiter, then turned around as well, and followed her partner.

Makoto was watching the rain bouncing of the window again. "It can't be!" she thought to herself. "Haruka can't be Uranus. Not Haruka!" she almost cried. Her mind went back to the day when she was attacked by the monster, but the demon wasn't the only one who was after her heart. The strange senshi almost took it from her. She wanted to teach them a lesson and fought against Uranus. But she lost. She could never forget the humiliation she felt that day. "And now this. Another humiliation." She pounded the tabletop with her fist. "Why is it happening to me?" a big tear rolled down her cheek. "Why can't I be happy? Is it too much to ask?" The phone rang. The answering machine picked it up.

"Hello? Mako-chan?" Usagi waited a moment to see if her friend was going to answer. "We're going to the Crown. Maybe you'd like to join us." She continued when nothing happened. "I've heard that they have a new Sailor V game." Still no answer. Usagi finally gave up. She sighed, "Ok then. I'll see you later, Mako-chan."

It got quiet in the room. Makoto was alone again. Is that what she really wanted? She looked outside again. The rain stopped, but world was wet, just like her face. She didn't even realize she was crying. A faint ray of sun started to shine through the clouds. Was it maybe a sign? Makoto quickly dried her face. "What's the matter with me?" she shook her head. "I've been through worse. It's not the right time to give up." She grabbed an umbrella on her way out. She started to run to get to the Crown as fast as she could. She didn't want to miss her friends. She could always count on them. As she turned the corner she slipped on a puddle and lost her balance. Strong hands caught her before she hit the ground. Makoto looked up. She couldn't believe her eyes. She saw the most handsome man she ever met. He helped her get up. When she finally stood up she noticed that he was about five inches taller than she was. He had dark brown hair and deep brown eyes. "Is it a dream?" she thought.

"My name is Rui Akimoto." He introduced himself. Makoto blushed. She couldn't believe it. He wasn't intimidated by her. "What's your name?" he looked deep into her eyes. She was speechless. He smiled. "Maybe you could reveal your name over a cup of coffee?" He was asking her out. Makoto just blinked and nodded. He offered her his arm. At first she didn't know what to do. Nobody treated her that way before. She suddenly remembered Haruka and Michiru, and taking Michiru's example she excepted the stranger's offer. On the way to the parlor Makoto regained her senses and they soon discovered they had a lot in common. He was nineteen years old and treated her with the respect she deserved. They spent quite some time chatting and slowly discovering each other. Afterwards he walked her home and when he was saying good night he asked her for her phone number. Makoto couldn't believe her luck. She didn't know if it was the beginning of a relationship, but she decided to enjoy it just one moment at a time. That night she had a wonderful dream about her and Rui's future together.
