Sailor Universe: Chapter 21
 
“Endymion, do you remember of anywhere that your father could have hidden the staff?”
“Nay, Serenity. I was not often included into my father's counsels. He was not open with me about his doings. I believed that Beryl had poisoned his mind against me as she did with Earth's peoples.”
“Generals? You were alive then too. Did the King trust you? After all, you were on Beryl's side then.”
“What?! Queen Serenity, how could you trust Earth's fate in the hands of former Enemies??! What were their roles with Beryl?”
“We served as the generals of her armies. We were responsible for planning and executing attacks upon the people of Earth. During the time of the Moon Kingdom, we served as Endymion's guards, much as the Sailor Scouts served as Serenity's. However, Beryl managed to brainwash us into believing that the Moon Kingdom was evil. When we were reborn, Beryl brainwashed us again before we could carry out our task of finding Endymion. The Sailor Scouts destroyed us. Once they were coronated, the king and queen revived us using the Crystal. Queen Serenity, the former king of Earth did not trust us either. At first, we were loyal to the prince. Then, we were too loyal to Beryl. The former King only trusted those who were in the middle like himself.”
“Thank you, Kunzite. Endymion, who were the middle people?”
“Why? I do not believe that any of them were reborn, so it would not help us.”
“Some of them could have been. Remember, many seemingly unimportant people from the Moon Kingdom were reincarnated with us. They turned out to be carriers of the Rainbow Crystals. Someone that your father trusted could have also been sent into the future with us.”
“That's true, but I don't know who he would have trusted. He wouldn't even tell me that much.”
“Setsuna, do you know of anyone?”
“Yes, there is one woman. It is said that she was Beryl's student but turned away from her teacher. It seems that she sensed that Beryl had been corrupted by her love for Endymion and by the evil comet that approached Earth. I do not know if she was reborn though.”
“How could we find her if she was reborn?”
“Her name was Kalina. As with most people of that time, no one knew her last name. She might even have helped him to conceal the staff.”
“I believe, your majesties, that you are discussing me, Kalina Merlin.”
“What… ok, does this freak anyone else out??”
“Sorry if this seems weird. I have long known of my past, but had no way of contacting you. Of course, I did not know your identities in this time until the press conference.”
“Why didn't you try to contact us right after it?”
“I saw no need for it. But a week ago, I started having strange dreams. King Endymion's father was speaking to me, saying that you needed me.”
“Well, we need to know where the staff of the one true King of Earth is. It is the only way to defeat Karimenta. Do you know where it is hidden?”
“Kind of…”
“KIND OF?! This is no time for kind ofs, we need yes or no. It is as simple as that.”
“Princess Raye, close your mouth and let me explain my answer. You have always been too quick to anger. You never think about what you say or do.”
“DO NOT speak to me with such disrespect. I am a princess, and a Sailor Scout. You would do well to remember that.”
“Oh, please. In our past lives, I was changing the diapers of every single one of you, though they were not called diapers then. I helped to raise you, but somehow your memory of that has been blocked. Anyway, the former king told me a riddle. We must find the answer to that riddle in order to find the staff. Here it is: `The Palace of Old once glistened by the sea. There was no ice around for any to see. The fair queen looked down and saw me. I was in her kingdom, and not in mine.' What it means, I don't know.”
“The Sea of Serenity is where we must search. What better place could there be to hide it?”
“I believe you are correct, Neo-Queen Serenity. You must travel there at once. I can use my powers to protect the people of Earth while you are away. The powers of a mage followed me through time.”
“Thank you, Kalina. However, you will have to work together with Earth's Home Defense. Many citizens wished to help in the war, so they formed it to protect Earth while we were on Nasu. I expect they will wish to do the same while we are on the Moon. Princesses, we must go now.”
“Of course, your grace.”
The heroes walked out of the room and teleported to the Moon. They traveled to the Palace, which was near the Sea of Serenity.
“Where do we begin to search? It could take forever to look everywhere the sea once existed.”
“We do not have to look in the middle. My father did not have power over water, so he would have to hide it along the shores.”
“Thanks, Tuxedo Mask for the information. It will greatly aid in our search. Inner Scouts, we shall break up into pairs. Once you have finish searching your sector, go to the middle and search there. Regardless of his lack of powers, the king might have found a way to hide it there. If you find it, report it to Mars through mind speech, and she will relay the message to everyone else. If someone finds it, everyone will meet in the middle to return to Earth.”
The Scouts separated and traveled to their sectors. They searched for many hours, but found nothing. Everyone had met up in the middle and was searching there, except for Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Mask. Their region was bigger than the others, and took longer. They were just about to give up when a beam appeared from the ground and revealed a specter.
“FATHER!! What…how?!”
“I created a spell that would allow me to appear should you ever come here, my son. I am sorry, Endymion and Serenity for listening to Beryl. If only I had known…but it cannot be helped. You must return to Earth, and to the North Pole. Our Palace used to be there next to Beryl's mansion. During a full moon, search along the southern shore. A beam should appear where the staff is. I love you, Endymion. Now go, save Earth. I am glad that Kalina listened to the dreams I sent her. Farewell.”
“We do not have time to be going on wild goose chases like this!”
“Calm down, sweetheart, let's just return to Earth and do as my father says. We will save Earth from Karimenta. I believe in you, and you should too.”
“You are right, let's go.”
