Chapter 2
"When are we gonna eat?" said Serena, as she and her friends were laying on the grass at Central Park.
It was a glorious summer day, full of sunshine, perfect weather, and guys. It was Lita's idea to have a picnic in the park, and her friends agreed. Of course, if Serena, Lita, and their friends Raye, Amy and Mina were going out, that meant that Rini and her best friend Hotaru would go as well. Both girls hated to be left out.
"Serena," Lita replied, "we'll eat when we're ready! It's not even lunchtime yet!"
"Yeah, so can it Meatball Brain and wait for the food!" retorted Raye.
Serena scowled. She hated the fact that her friends made fun of her hairstyle. She always wore her hair in two buns on top of her head, with two long ponytails coming out.
As she looked at her friends, Serena couldn't help but notice how different her friends were from each other. Lita was tall and boy crazy; Raye, the spiritual one, and hotheaded; Mina, with her girlish charms and obsession with her looks; and Amy, the shy girl who always had a book in hand. They were all so different, yet, in a way, all the same. Each girl had her different personality. Each with her own abilities, but all of them had the same purpose. To live life to its fullest, and protect it with their lives; for their sake and others'.
Serena looked at the littlest members of her group. Hotaru and Rini were a good distance away, playing a game of Follow the Leader. Serena smiled at the two at play.
They're so innocent, she thought, No one would ever think that they helped save the world only a few days ago.
But then again, no one ever thought that whinny, whiney Serena herself was a super hero. The only girl in the world, known as Eternal Sailor Moon. With her friends, the Eternal Sailor Scouts, and her love, Darien Shields, also known as Tuxedo Mask, by her side, Serena felt like she could do anything.
"Hey, Meatball Brains! Earth to Serena!" yelled Raye, helping herself to Lita's potato salad and making Serena lose her train of thought, "We're ready to serve the food!"
"Raaaayyyyyyeeeeee! How many times do I have to tell you to STOP CALLING ME THAT!!!!!!!!!!" she screamed back.
"Obviously, too many times, because it's annoying the stuffing out of me! "
"Oooooohhhhhhh!" grumbled Serena. She never seemed to win these arguments, "Why don't you start stuffing your brain, instead of your face!"
Raye started fuming, "Is that a threat?! Come on Meatball Head! Let's go!!!" she went in to a karate stance. "Let's see if you can say that to my face!"
"Hey guys!" said Amy, with a look of worry in her aqua eyes, "Knock it off before you end up hurting someone!"
"Yeah!" said Lita, shaking her head, "Let's try not to ruin this perfect day with a fight! Rini, Hotaru! Lunchtime!"
"Okay! Coming Lita!" said Rini, her pink haired head turning in the girls' direction. "Come on Hotaru! Let's eat!"
"Yeah, I'm hungry!" said Hotaru.
The two girls ran toward Lita with hungry looks in their eyes. Lita couldn't help but laugh. Everyone loved her cooking, and those who missed it were seriously disappointed that they missed out. To her, it came natural, but to others, it was a miracle.
Lita wasn't the only one looking at the girls, though. Even Amy looked up from her book to see the two best friends come running towards the food. She smiled. I wish I were that young again, she thought. It would've been nice to have that much energy to but towards something. And being carefree wasn't that bad either!
"Okay, time to eat!" said Raye, "Serena, this time, will you PLEASE try and not eat half the food before we get to it? PLEASE????? And while I'm at it, can you please get some napkins from that hot dog stand over there?" she pointed to a hot dog cart a couple of yards away. "By the way you eat, you'll need them!"
"WHAT??????? OOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!" fumed Serena, steamed because Raye was acting all bossy. She hated it when she didn't get the opportunity to slam Raye in a fight. Especially since Raye started it! Fine, I'll get the napkins, she thought, that'll at least let me cool down a little.
She started walking towards the stand, enjoying the outdoors as she went. The flowers were in full bloom, and the sky was a beautiful shade of bright blue. Nothing was brown like in fall, and everything was picturesque. I wish Darien was here, mused Serena, he would've loved this weather. And I miss him like crazy. She sighed when she thought of Darien, because she knew why he couldn't come. He had wanted to, very badly, but he had to cram for his final exam tomorrow, and he wanted to get a reasonable enough score to pass and get his medical degree. To think, thought Serena, he's going to be Doctor Shields after this test. I hope he doesn't expect me to call him Doctor Darien!
She laughed as she approached the hot dog stand. She could see that there were a lot of people waiting in line. Oh great, I hope I don't have to wait, Serena thought, I'm just getting some napkins, so I should be able to just walk up and get them, right? So instead of waiting in line, she went right up and took some napkins from the napkin holder.
"Watch out!!" someone shouted, but it was too late. As soon as she turned around, someone bumped into her and knocked her over. A shower of napkins littered the air, and soda pop came down right on top of her, soaking her brand new pink colored tank top.
"Oh my, I'm so sorry!" said a masculine voice, "I didn't mean to do that!"
"EEEEEWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!" shrieked Serena, "Oh no! My new clothes!" she looked at her new top. "I'm soaked!!!!"
As she reached for the napkins she dropped, she noticed who bumped into her. He looked to be about a couple of years older than her, with blonde hair that kept getting in his eyes, and a pair of one of the most beautiful green eyes she had ever seen. Tall and muscular, he seemed genuinely taken with Serena, and he looked very sincere about what happened.
"I am so sorry for what happened!" he said, "I hope you can forgive me. It's not everyday I spill a soda on a beautiful woman." He smiled.
"Oh, that's alright," replied Serena, flattered with his comment about her, "As long as you help me pick up all these napkins and help me dry off, we'll call it even."
"Okay, it's a deal!" said the stranger, picking up the spilled napkins, "And by the way, I don't think I caught your name. I'd like to know the name of an angel. Or do angels have names? I'm not sure."
Serena giggled. Wow, this guy's quite the charmer! She thought. Too bad I'm already taken. I wouldn't cheat on Darien even if this guy was the last person on Earth!
"Sorry, but I already have a boyfriend. I love him very much and I'm not one to complicate my relationships, so"
The stranger smiled understandingly, "I 'm glad you love someone so much that you don't want to be involved with someone else. But that wasn't what I asked." He replied kindly, handing her the dropped napkins. "I wanted to know the name of the lady I'm having the most interesting conversation with."
Serena blushed, embarrassed, "I'm sorry. I thought you were going to ask me out or something!" she giggled. "That was silly of me! Sorry, I'm such a ditz sometimes. My name's Serena."
"I'm Patrick. Sorry bout the soda again. I can treat you to something later, say, maybe dinner? To get to know my new best friend?" he smiled mischievously. "I won't take no for an answer."
"Well, I don't know"
"Please? I'll give you my world famous puppy dog eyes if you don't!"
His girl companion laughed, "Okay, sure, why not? But don't be getting too comfy with me. I'm taken, ya know."
Patrick grinned. "It's a date! You won't regret this!" His grin kept getting wider and wider. "How bout you meet me at the Yang Café at seven tonight?"
"Me meet you there? Weren't you going to drive me?"
"Nope. Then that would be kinda awkward now wouldn't it?"
"Oh, yeah! Right!" She giggled.
"So I'll see you there?"
"Yep."
"Great! I got to go, so see ya!" he said, and started jogging in the other direction.
"Bye!" called Serena, waving her hand.
After he was out of sight, she shook her head, thinking about her crazy conversation with Patrick. How'd that happen? She wondered. I walk to a hot dog stand to get a handful of napkins and I leave with a dinner date with someone I hardly even know. Why does this stuff happen to me???
"HEY MEATBALL BRAINS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" screamed a familiar voice, "WHAT'S TAKING YOU SOOOOOOO LONG!!!!!!!!??????"
Serena groaned. Oh great, I can't even enjoy a funny conversation without it being spoiled by one of my friends. "ALRIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'M COMING RAYE!!!!!!!!!!!!! KEEP YOUR PANTS ON!!!!!!!! I'M COMING!!!!!!!!"
"When are we gonna eat?" said Serena, as she and her friends were laying on the grass at Central Park.
