‘Why?’
“Hi, Pirika!”
‘He could’ve stayed…’
“Pirika?”
‘He didn’t have to go…’
“Pirika!”
‘But… he did…’
“Hello? Is anybody home?” A girl with short, pink hair waved her hand frantically in front of her friend’s face.
Pirika blinked stupidly, before looking at her friend.
“Oh, sorry about that, Tamao. I guess I just kind of spaced out there.”
Tamao smiled cheerfully. “Oh, that’s al right. But, come on! We have to go meet the others!”
Pirika snapped her fingers and gasped. “I totally forgot about that! We have to get going! Let’s go!”
After that had been said, the blue haired girl grabbed Tamao’s wrist, and started running out down the street.
Back at the house. -
“When are they going to arrive, Yoh?” A stern voice asked.
“I don’t know, Anna. They should be here soon, though.” The carefree boy answered his wife. (Yes, they already got married! It’s a few years after the Shaman Tournament.)
“Well, they had better hurry, or else Lady Anna will see to it personally they are never late again.” Ryu stated.
“I wouldn’t say that too loud, Ryu…” Manta warned his odd haired friend. “Sure, she’s become more soft hearted, but she still can get pretty angry.”
“Uh, Manta… I think I would be best to start running now…” Ryu said as he slowly scooted away.
Manta had a confused look on his face, until everything got darker as a figure loomed over him.
“Talking about me, are we, shrimp?” The fierce itako threatened.
Manta slowly walked backwards away from Anna, beads of sweat rolling down his face.
“Who me? No, no, no! I’d never say anything bad about you, Anna.” Manta’s poor attempts did him no good.
Yoh grinned his lazy, goofy grin, and watched the two. He knew nothing bad would happen.
Horo Horo, on the other hand, just sat at the other side of the room, looking down at the floor, tuning out the others.
That is, until his sister and Tamao fell into the room.
Tamao lay on top of Pirika’s back, both dizzy, with their eyes spinning. (You know, the weird swirls you see in anime.)
Yoh grinned. “Hey, look at who dropped in.”
Anna dropped a struggling Manta, and walked over to the two girls, who were already starting to pick themselves up.
“Finally. I was beginning to think that neither of you would show up.” The blonde said, with her hands on her hips.
After dusting themselves off, and regaining their composures, they looked at the others.
“Sorry we were so late. I guess I’m kind of to blame.” Pirika apologized afterwards.
“Al right, now that that’s been squared off, let’s talk.” Anna announced to everyone after Manta and Ryu had returned.
Everyone was seated in a circle in this order: Pirika was next to Tamao, Manta was next to Tamao, Ruy was next to Manta, Yoh was next to Ryu, and Anna was next to Yoh.
Pirika looked over at her brother who was huddled in a far corner of the room.
‘Poor Horo. What’s gotten into him lately? …Maybe we both have been taking Ren’s departure quite hard. After all, Ren and Horo were such good friends, and I really like Ren…really, really like Ren…’
“Horo Horo.” Anna said sharply. “Get over here now. I have an announcement for everyone, including the secluded. Now get your ass over here now, or I will resort to using my beads.” She gripped her blue necklace as she spoke.
Horo Horo didn’t really care about what Anna said, but he saw his sister’s pleading eyes, and he could not deny her.
His own eyes had grown darker, and seemed to lose their happy, and joyous spark.
He walked over to the group, as everyone moved around, so he could sit beside his little sister.
After they all were settled and listening, Anna cleared her throat.
“All right. This is why I have requested all of your presences.” Anna said. Her voice almost had a tremor in it.
She slowly pulled an envelope off of the table, and opened it.
Everyone else watched intently as she tore off the top half of the paper, revealing a note inside.
A letter, to be precise.
“I will read the letter aloud now to you all. I suggest that you listen, and do not fool around.”
“Dear Pirika and Horo Horo,
Your father (and the koropokkur) and I wanted you to know, that we will be coming for you shortly. We all will come to pick you two up, so we all can move. We decided it be best if we were to all pick up, and leave. We are moving. Moving to China.
Your loving mum”
Anna finished reading the letter. She lowered the piece of paper from her face to see the shocked looks on everyone’s faces.
She had known from the start what the letter was about. She didn’t have to read it to know.
The others though, this was such a shock to them all.
The two Ainu siblings, though, they slowly started to grin, attempting to hide their smiles at the same time.
No one but Anna and Yoh noticed. Tamao, Ryu, an Manta were all still gaping at the letter that Anna held.
There was only one thought on the Ainu’s minds:
‘I’ll be able to see Ren!’
