Shaman King Fan Fiction ❯ Heartache ❯ Chapter 2 ( Chapter 2 )

two Ainu siblings were in their rooms packing-All the while smug grins of pure happiness plastered on their faces. Pirka finished her packing first, and had to sit on the large suitcase so it would close.

Finally, she got it shut. “Okay, that’s done.” She left her luggage on the cot, and walked over to her older brother’s room.

Inside, he was packing slowly, and looked to be deep in thought. Pirka knitted her brows sadly. She hated to see Horohoro like this. She missed the happy flicker of fire that always burned in the depths of his eyes. But that flame had been put out a long time ago-On the day Ren left their world, and went back to his own.

But her frown faltered, and her eyes lit up. The female Ainu almost gasped. She had noticed a small smile. Her brother Horohoro was actually smiling again! She was so delighted that she couldn’t help but run over to him and throw her arms around his neck in a hug.

Horo, who was thrown off guard by his sister’s sudden cuddling, that he almost fell over. The male Ainu turned around in Pirka’s grip, and looked down at her, still smiling. He wrapped his arms around the small of her back.

“Hey, Pirka. What’s up?” Pirka was astonished. His tone sounded-Happy, and light! She gazed up at Horohoro.

“Oh, brother! I’m so glad! You’re smiling, you’re happy!” She was almost on the verge of tears of happiness. Horo’s eyes softened, and his smile widened.

“Yeah. I guess I am happy. And it feels good to be returning back to my regular self.”
The two siblings stood their for a few moments more, before Pirka bid him good night, and retired to her room for the night.

In her room, Pirka lay awake in her futon, staring out the window at the gleaming stars Lighting up the sky like bright, vivid, fire flies.

Her eyes gleamed with happiness, and a love that she had never given up hope on.
‘I’m coming, Ren…’ She fell asleep shortly after imagining seeing Ren after the time that had passed. She imagined him just as handsome as ever. His hair just as spiky and purple as always. His muscles maybe even better toned than they had been. His eyes still held their firm determination and stubbornness.

Horohoro had finished his packing a while after his little sister had left. He, too, lay in his futon. Though, he didn’t gaze at the stars. Nor did he think abut Ren. He just wanted tomorrow to come as soon as possible. The sooner day break came, the closer he became to seeing his love.

Dawn came much sooner than he thought. His eyes opened meekly, trying to adjust to the incoming light from the window.

His black and blue bangs had fallen over his face, and he heard much commotion outside of his room. He smiled. Today was the day. He’d see his family. Then he’d see Ren.
He quickly jumped off of his cot, and pulled his clothes on. He sauntered out the door, a grin on his face, his eyes revitalized with life.

At the same, time Pirka was also waking up. She had slept in, which was unusual for her standards. Oh well. It didn’t matter. She’d get to see Ren very soon. She was sure her brother was still happy. She loved seeing her brother smile. If she didn’t know better, she’d think she loved her own brother almost as much as she loved Ren. But that was far too taboo. She could never love her brother like that.

As the two were walking down the hall, they met up with each other. Smiling broadly at the other, the siblings walked down the hall side by side.
As they entered the kitchen, everyone was shocked to see the male Ainu happy! And smiling!

“What are you guys gawking at? Come on, let’s eat!” The Ainu shouted. He took a seat, and grabbed a plate. He began inhaling food; just like he used to.
Everyone simply smiled, laughing or chuckling a bit. That was their old Horo.
Pirika indignantly sat next to her brother, and ate slowly, and politely. She acted normally, but inside she was bursting. Her heart felt as though it were a giant hammer pounding her chest. As was Horo’s.

Everyone finished eating. No one had spoken. They were all too nervous, and jittery. Their plates were cleaned, and the dishes were washed. The two Ainu made their way back to their rooms, and grabbed their things. As they walked back to the others, they sulked slightly.

All they had thought about was seeing Ren, and how wonderful it would be to see him. But, they now remembered what they would miss by leaving. Their friends. They didn’t want to leave them. They knew they didn’t have to go with their parents. But, they needed to. They needed to see the Tao.

Pirka’s bottom lip began to tremble, and Horohoro lowered his head, his bangs covering his face.

“We’re going to miss you all…” Pirka whispered sadly.

“We’ll never forget you, dudes. We’ll meet up again someday, right?” There was a tremor in Horo’s voice.

Yoh smiled his care free smile. “Yeah. And when we meet up again, we’ll have another rematch!”

Horohoro glanced up at him. He grinned. “I won’t go easy on you when we do.”
“And neither will I.”

“Pirka! Oh, we’re going to miss you and Horo so much!” Tamao sobbed.

Manta and Ryu stood off to one side, muttering things. They, too, were upset.

Anna was also a bit emotional. “Pirka…You better not start going easy on Horo. Keep training him hard. Since I won’t be there giving you pointers.”

Pirka fought back fresh tears. She didn’t think it could be this difficult to say good-bye to all of them.

It didn’t seem so hard for Ren to leave. Lyserg and Faust had left so simply as well.

“Well, it’s time for us to take our leave.” Pirka’s voice was still quivering.

Everyone hugged a bit, and bid each other farewell. Horohoro and Pirka walked out the door together, etching a scar in the hearts and minds of the friends they left behind. They would not see each again. And if they did, that would not be for a very long time indeed.
“Horohoro?”

“What is it, Pirka?” The older Ainu replied.

“Where are we supposed to meet them?”

Horo fell over at the question. “I thought you knew!”

I thought you knew!” Pirka yelled.

Horo sighed. This was only a minor set back, is all. They would see Ren, even if they had to walk to China just to do so.

Suddenly, Horohoro snapped his fingers. “Of course! Kororo can help! Right, Kororo?”

He said gleefully as his partner appeared next to him.
She shook her head happily to her master.

“Good thinking!” Pirka said to her brother. Kororo flew gracefully in one direction, the Ainu following close behind.

“That’s it. Just lead us to where we’re supposed to go, Kororo!” Horo shouted encouragingly to his nature partner.

Kororo led the two to a clearing, and there was nothing there but mist and fog. She stopped, and let the siblings have a look around.

“Um, Kororo? Are you sure this is where we have to be?” Pirka asked cautiously.
Kororo only nodded her head “yes”.

“Well, now what do we do?” Horo asked, clearly baffled by the situation. Pirka shrugged, but Kororo smiled eagerly. She said something in a different language, and motioned for her master and his sister to look a bit deeper into the fog cloud.

Inside the fog, Pirka and Horo could make out a small figure. Another Koropokkur like Kororo. It was no doubt a messenger sent by the Ainu’s family.

Kororo and the other Koropokkur chatted in that strange language of theirs, and Horo groaned. Since he too, could understand the language, he knew what they said.
Pirka slumped to the ground. “You’ve got to be kidding me.”

Horo sighed. “Great. We have to go back home, then move.”

The two smaller nature beings smiled. They could get them there in no time at all.
A bright aura surrounded Kororo and the other nature spirit, and there was a bright flash of light.

Horohoro and Pirka didn’t have time to react. They were already engulfed in the light.
They opened their eyes slowly, and looked around. They were home!
(Sorry about the lame getting home thing. But I didn’t want to waste a lot of time with that part.)

Horo grinned. “Wow, thanks you two!”

“Mom!” Pirka shouted.

“And dad!” Horo finished.

Their parents walked into the room, and smiled warmly at their children.

“It’s good to see you two again. I’m glad you found the guide we sent you. Karina was very excited to get to help you, you know.” Their mother said.

Karina, the nature spirit who had helped them all arrive home, flew around a bit, and rested on Pirka’s shoulder blade. The blue haired girl smiled.

Horohoro eyes his parents. “What was with the fog?”

His dad replied, “What do you mean, Horo?”

“Why did you have us go to a foggy area? Wouldn’t it have been easier to just have Karina more in the open?” He asked bluntly.

His father chuckled. “Ha ha. I suppose so. But fog is so nice! It’s apart of nature! Why not enjoy it?”

Horo fell over anime style.

Pirka rolled her eyes. “What were you expecting?”

After some idle chat, the group decided it was best to head out. It would be a fairly long trip to get to China, and they had to get to the nearest airport soon.

(Sorry, but I’m not going to go into everything with much detail. That’s too much work, and it’s getting late here.)

Horohoro and Pirka sat in two seat together, and their parents ended up in a whole other part of the plane together.

Pirka was thankful for this. For now, she would be able to talk with Horo about things she had meant to for a long time now.

“Horo…” She whispered quietly.

The plane was basically empty. The family was practically the only ones on the craft.

“Yes, Pirka?” He answered, averting his gaze to see her looking out the window.

“You…You love Ren…Don’t you?” She mumbled incoherently.

Horo was shocked by the question. He knew that his sister, of all people, would know how he felt about people. But he never thought she would ever have the intention of bringing it up.

“Yeah…” He said quietly. “I do. Why are you asking me this?”

Pirka sighed. “Oh, no reason. Just curious, I suppose.” She bit her lip absentmindedly. Horo knew that was a lie. She always had a reason for the things she did or said. Maybe his feeling was right. Maybe his sister did love Ren, just as he did.

“You love him, Pirka?” It was really more of a statement than a question.
Pirka didn’t answer. She only nimbly shook her head. She did. He was correct.
Horohoro sighed and ran his hand through his messy locks. This didn’t seem good. Only one of them could have Ren. But maybe Ren didn’t like either of them. In any case, at least one of them will end up scorned.

His thoughts ended abruptly, and his body visible tensed as he felt the odd sensation if his sister’s lips against his own. I mean, sure they’d kissed a lot of times. They were siblings, after all. But that kiss seemed so much different that all the others, and Horo could tell what it was.

He didn’t push her away, nor did he kiss her back. He didn’t even have time to do either of them, for in seconds the warmth had left his lips, and Pirka was looking out the window again. She was trying to hide her face, hide her blush.

“Unh…” Horo tried to say something, but he was at a loss of words.
Pirka gulped. “Sorry. I was just wishing you good luck, is all…”
Good luck? For what? Oh. About the whole Ren ordeal. One of them would have their hearts shattered. When they were little, they used to kiss each other good luck. They didn’t know why they did it, really. It was usually just a quick brush of the lips against a cheek. But that. That was so much different that what they had done as kids.
Maybe Pirka was just nervous about seeing Ren again. She loves him, too, after all. She’s not in her current state of mind…

Horohoro tried to ease his mind by thinking these things. But he couldn’t get that tingling feeling off of his lips. It reminded him all too well of a “kiss” that Ren and he had shared. They had been fighting, as usual. But, somehow, Horo fell ontop of Ren, and they “kissed”.

Horo sighed. This was indeed going to be a long trip.
