The Big Event
Lina and Gourry looked around the shack. They didn't really find anything out of place. Their were some furnishing in the shack some beds in the bed room a table in the kitchen. They walked pass the bed room and headed for the kitchen. As they were entering the room a voice spoke out of the shadows.
"Welcome Miss Lina Inverse I suppose you have been looking for me?" He walked out of the shadows so Lina could get a better look at him. As she looked at him he was an old man. He had a big belly and was short for his size. He had a bald head and wore some glasses to help him see. Lina didn't like this guy already she hated how his voice was high pitched.
Lina was about to grab him when the man spoke again. " Wait I know you are mad at me but hear me out I didn't know of any other way to find you. I wish to talk to you about some treasure. There is a map somewhere located in this town. It leads to a sealed temple out side the towns location." He seemed to caught Linas attention so he went on. "I wanted to hire you to take me to this temple but as well I have a problem. If the map is found would you take me to the temple?" The old man had played his cards he wondered if she would agree.
"You dragged me out of the middle of nowhere to tell me of a sealed temple that has no way of getting there except to find this map?" She paused in her talk and saw him nod. " I'm not going to agree fully to this unless you find this map until then I will be in my room at the Inn." After saying that she turned and walked out, but not with out leaving the old man a present. She sent a large fireball in the shacks direction. As she walked away she could hear a yelp of pain. She had managed to blow up the shack. She felt a little better there was no way she was going to work with someone not when she could have the treasure herself.
'So somewhere in this town is a map I wonder where one would began their search.' "Hey Gourry tomorrow we are going to split up and look for the map it has to be somewhere in the town the old man said so." Lina and Gourry got to the Inn they went to the dinning area and order some food. She and Gourry order everything on the manu x2. After they had their feel they headed for bed tomorrow would be a long day.
In the sandy part of the beach the moons reflection off the water gave the scene a nice look. Lina was letting the salt water of the ocean brush up her bare feet. She began to giggle as the water tickled her feet. A pair of arms encircled around her bringing her into a hug. The figure was up against her back so she couldn't see who it was.
The figure ran his hand up the side of her hip liking the way her cures felt. The figure she knew now was tall and she could see on the hand that it wore gloves. As she was just about to turn and see who her dream man was the dream ended. Lina sat up in bed another strange dream and this time she knew it wasn't Gourry. Just what did the dream mean and was it anything remotely important. Lina shoved the dream to the back of her mind she needed to get a head start on the day.
Lina had Gourry go to the western part of the town while she covered the east. Lina was at the library looking around. Nothing this was the third placed she has looked. She would go to the gift shop next. That was the last place she had left to look. She began to wonder if Gourry is having any better luck.
Gourry had been looking just like Lina said but a young pretty woman looked like she needed some help carrying the food shed just bought back to her house. Plus she looked to be in a hurry the more he looked around the other people as well were in a hurry. Being the gentleman he was he offered the woman a hand she was greatly appreciated. He grabbed a few bags and followed her to her house. He carried them in for her and set them in the kitchen he was about to go on his way when the woman stopped him.
"Wait let me cook you something to eat a little later, I wish to thank you for what you did it was very kind of you to go out of your way to help. I would do it now but the towns arena is about to began." Gourry gave his confused look. "The towns arena is the biggest event it is where some of the greatest fighters come to fight. The reward is you get a trophy and a lot of gold they are saying this year it has something special in the trophy." Gourry put a hand to his chin he was thinking.
Lina had just went through the gift shop. 'Damn nothing there either. Where the hell is that map I have talked to just about all the people on this side of town. Maybe Gourry will have a little more to go off considering he didn't forget about looking. He can be easily distracted.' Lina let out a long sigh. She then head towards the western part of town where she thought Gourry might be.
As she started to walk through the town the people were talking about the big event. Everywhere one turned around the big event this the big event that just what the hell is the big event? Lina stopped one of the busy people and asked them why they were in such a rush. The towns person said the big event was the arena on the other end of town. A large fighting arena where the best fighters come and compete. Lina had heard enough she headed on looking for Gourry as she went.
Gourry walked out of the lady house he thought he might have been forgetting something when a large man carry an axe tripped over a flower pot. The man was so tall he didn't even noticed it. Gourry walked up to him. "Are you alright that was a nasty fall you had." "Yeah I think I'm alright but I seem to have fractured my leg. Oh crap I won't be able to fight in the arena like this." Gourry looked at his leg. He then slapped his hands together. " I know my friend might be able to heal you." Kyle looked up at the strange blonde.
"My friend is a sorcerer she should be able to heal you." Kyle watched as the blonde left him. 'Would his friend really be able to help him?' Kyle tried to stand but the pain was coming from his shin bone. It felt like he might have cracked the bone. He knew though that if he didn't find a way to be healed he wouldn't be able to fight. He had come along way to get into the arena going through many tests to see if he was strong enough.
Kyle had wanted to fight since he was little, but his family had been poor. His mother had died when he was real young and so it was just his sister and their dad. Their father wasn't very well having learned he had a bad illness that couldn't be cured. On the day Kyle turned 13 he began to work. While he was working at the Inn the job he got was cleaning the tables. While cleaning a table one day a man had wanted to set down he looked to be quite tired. Little Kyle hurried and cleared the table but as he was doing so another man joined at the table they had begun to talk.
"Looks like another one never made it through the training." Jake the one who sat down at the table last lit up a cigar. He blew a large puff in front of the other guy. "You really should stop that habit it will kill you one day." Ryan put a hand up to push the cigar smoke from his face. "So do you think we will be able to find the replacement we need in this town?" Ryan said noticing the strange look on Jakes face he asked what he was thinking about.
"I got it why don't we hold a contest to see, the winner is the one we will train." Ryan liked this idea a lot but their was one problem. "How will we get the word out and what will be the ages we are willing to go?" Kyle listened to them he hadn't meant to but they were being loud. He took his time he wanted to hear the ages maybe just maybe he might be old enough to compete. "I say 15 and up that should be a good age what about you Ryan what age do you think." Ryan thought hard on it 15 was a good age.
"I agree 15 is the perfect age not to young and there might be some good fighters that are under 18 that sometimes get over looked." So they agreed on the age what about getting the word out. Then another idea hit him. "Why don't we get someone to pass around a paper saying about the contest the winner being the one we want to train. We can through a little cash in for the prize to the winner." Jake liked the idea. He was just about to get the waiter when a voice broke the words he was about to say.
"I'm sorry for over hearing you but I couldn't help but wondering if you needed someone to pass out the papers." Jake looked at the boy who had just cleaned the table. "Sure why not did you want to do it kid it could get you some extra money." Kyle said yes he was to meet with the men later on they would have the papers done by then.
This was the chance he had been waiting on. He might have to lie about his age but he really wanted to be in the contest. Time came for him to meet with the guys they handed him a big stack of papers. Kyle had gotten all the papers out going to places he thought there would be kids like him interested in the contest. His best friend even took a paper. The paper said the next coming Friday they were to be at the big house that was in the middle of town.
That night Kyle went home very excited only to find his father yelling at him. His father said there was no future in something like that and would not let him join. That night Kyle cried to sleep his father never understood how much this really meant to him. When Friday morning came there was a big line at Ryans house. "Jake this turned out better than I thought it looks like just about all the kids in the town had come." Yes Jake knew there had to be at lest one of them that would be the one they would train.
Kyle didn't care what his father wanted he was going to prove that this is what he was meant to do. He stood at the back of the line waiting. He was always told he was good with an ax today he would find out how good he was. It took a while for it to get to him but that didn't matter. He was on his way to his dream becoming one of the best fighters around.
When it came time for Kyle to sign up his father choose to come. He knew his father would come looking for him so he had made up a costume hiding his looks. His father walked right by him not even noticing him. After Kyle signed up he was told to go around the back of the house. It looks like his best friend had won his battle soon he was standing on the right side of the field. After about 15 battles later it was time for Kyle to fight. Carrying his ax with pride he walked up to the field. Taking the left side he waited to see whom he would be fighting.
A kid smaller than him stood on the right side of him. The kid had a sword it looked to be to heavy for the kid. The gunshot went off starting the fight. Acting quick he pretended to dodge to the right but went to the left. It had confused the kid just like Kyle wanted it to but the kid soon seen that he was heading to the left and blocked Kyles attack. Even though the kid was small he managed to shove Kyle back some. It went back and forth Kyle would swing and then he would block. It looked to be even until the kid tripped giving Kyle enough time he swung his ax down the kid tried to block but Kyle ended up braking the sword.
The kid then gave up but he didn't walk away with out a hunk of his flesh gone. So from then on Kyle just learned to watch the others attack and looked for a weak point. He won every fight he got into. Soon It was just him his friend and another. He watched as his friend lance broke in to. The other guy he was facing looked to be very tough. He had his fighting style down to where it looked to have no flaws.
Kyle watched his friend walked toward him his face fallen. "Hey Kyle if you don't watch your self out there that guy will find your weak point. I know you are good but to face him you are going to have to be at your best. I now know he was just toying with me letting me think I had a chance. Do me a favor bet his little ass make him think he has the advantage. Also good luck you will need it." Kyle thanked his friend now it was down to this he was so close to getting what he wanted.
Kyle knew this was the time to show Jake and Ryan what he really learned. Soon the gunshot went off again the match had begun. It looked to Kyle that the kid had speed where Kyle had strength. This fight was nothing like the others he had fought. This kid was really smart but Kyle would find a flaw. Kyle jumped back dodging a blow to the right he used his ax to come down the left side. Again and again block attack block attack neither of them seem to gain the lead. Soon Kyle could tell he was getting tired he needed to end this. With one last charge he use the advantage he had his strength.
He knew that the kid would be to fast for him to try and hit so he used a front on attack. As the kid tried to dodge again he swung his big ax . A cling of metal could be heard as the sword and ax met. He pushed all of his strength in to his ax. The kid didn't have the strength needed to keep the block up and the sword broke with a loud snap. Kyle had did it he had won. His knees buckled under him he really did give everything in that last attack. He fell to the field floor going unconscious .
When Kyle woke up he was lying in a large bed. He could heard people talking. "I'm sorry sir we had no idea they boy was not of age, but what would you have use do he did win the contest." Ryan said trying to calm the man down.
Kyles father was about to say something when Kyle stopped him. "Father please it wasn't their fault I snuck in using a costume." So his father gave the knowing look that said he was in big trouble when he got home.
After Kyles father left Kyle walked up to Ryan. "What do I need to do to train. I don't want to give up on this chance it maybe the only one I will have. " While Ryan was listening to the Kyle Jake noticed how serious this boy was being. Ryan listened to the boy some more. "Why don't you met us tomorrow it is getting very late and you have had a rough day." Kyle agreed, but he really didn't want to go home.
Kyle walked through his front doors only to get yelled at. "Why don't you ever listen did I not raise you right? I only wish for you to have a good life." Kyle interrupted his father. " Father I know you only want what is best for me, but you don't understand this is what I want please just this once can't you let me make my own mistakes?"
"Fine do what you want I don't care maybe you might some day see that fighting will get you no where. Now get out of my site I don't want to see you until you learn that this will be a mistake." Kyle decided he would prove to his father and everyone else he would be one of the best fighters.
The next day he met with Ryan and Jake. He told them about what his father had said last night. Jake had wanted sure Kyle knew what he was getting into. "You do know that if you plan on letting us train you it will be very hard training and it will take a long time before you are ready to began fighting in the arena located in Lonerock."
Kyle agreed he knew the path he had chosen would be a hard one, but if there was one thing Kyle knew best he wouldn't give up. It took them to train Kyle non stop for five years. Now he was ready there was nothing else his teacher could teach him. He headed for Lonerock soon he would make a place in history where people would remember him as one of the great fighters.
When he came to Lonerock it looked like there would be a great amount of fighters. They had come from all around to earn the same goal to be the best fighter but only one on this day would come out on top. Kyle was going to try his hardest to be that person. There was only one thing to stop him and it happened. He wasn't watching where he was going and tripped over a stupid flower pot. So now he was waiting for the blonde to come back. 'Could this friend of the blonde guy heal him? ' Maybe so he just wished they would get there soon time was running out and he needed to get signed up.
Gourry went to look for Lina the streets were so packed because of all the fighters coming to enter the arena. He knew it wasn't going to be easy looking for Lina in a crowd like this unless someone pissed her off if that happened it wouldn't take no time at all.
Once Lina got pasted the middle part of town it got harder to move around. 'So all these fighters came to get into a fight. Wonder what the prize being offer to the winner might be. Maybe if it is something good I could get Gourry to enter with his skill the other people wouldn't have a chance.'
Gourry just happened to find a short red head looking in the other direction. Thinking it would possible be Lina he called out to her. Lina turned her head when she heard someone calling for her just then she seen Gourry.
"Hey Lina did you see all the people? There are so many I didn't think I could find a short person like you." Linas grip on her hand tightened she pulled her hand out and swung it at Gourrys head. She did that about 5 times after she was done she answered Gourry.
"Gourry how could you not miss this many people. You can't walk two feet in front of you with other running into another person." Lina turned to look at Gourry he didn't seem to be paying attention to her wondering what was on his mind she ask him but before she could Gourry spoke first.
"Hey Lina there was someone that was hurt. I was wondering if you would be able to heal him. He is one of the fighter that is going to compete."
"Sure Gourry where is he at, but I don't plan on making this a habit I'm only doing it because you asked me really nice." Gourry turned and said thanks he then lead her the way he left Kyle at.
When Lina got there he looked to be alright other than his right leg he was holding. She casted a recovery spell on him and it was as if he never got hurt in the first place. Kyle thanked Lina and apologized for not staying longer he really needed to sign up otherwise he would be waiting a whole year for the chance again. He promised to pay Lina and Gourry back for their kindness.
After 1 pm the streets were bare . Lina had found a good place to eat her and Gourry order their food. Lina wondered how Kyle was doing. She thought it would be best if she didn't have Gourry get into the arena it would of took to much of her time she didn't have.
Lina was just thinking their had to be another way to find the map. That got her to thinking she never did ask if Gourry came up with something. "Hey Gourry were you able to find anything about the map?" Gourry just told her he had gotten distracted and for got. He also told her about him helping the young woman out by carrying her food to the house she lived in.
He received to hits on the head for that. "How could you forget to look? What every time a lady in need you stop at everything to help them?" Gourry just nodded. Lina grabbed him into a head lock she wasn't going to let him go until the food came.
Gourry could be really dense sometimes. She forgot about Gourry for the moment and tried to keep Gourry from eating all the food. "Hey Gourry that was my piece!" He tried to say something but Lina couldn't understand him with food in his mouth.
Lina and Gourry had finished there food when the waiter came up. Lina though just for the hell of it she would ask the waiter if maybe she might have heard a little about the map being in this town somewhere. Lina read on the name tag she was wearing said Kayla.
Kayla asked if they needed there drinks refilled. Seeing that they did she began to poor. Lina took this time to ask Kayla. "You wouldn't by chance heard anything on the map that is hidden somewhere in this town would you?" Lina saw the girl in thought.
Kayla did remember hearing something coming from the costumer she served earlier. "Well I did hear a couple of people saying something about there is going to be a meeting tonight at the Inn right beside the arena. They are going to meeting there at around nine in the basement." Lucky for Lina she had been able to get a room there she would just go down to the basement and over hear what they were going to say. She thanked the waiter and she with Gourry left. Now just to figure out something to do till nine tonight. She could always go to the arena that would sure make time pass plus she thought she would enjoy seeing people get bet up. So she and Gourry went to the arena they had a hard time finding a seat seeing that so many people where there watching as well.
