Slayers Fan Fiction ❯ The Story That Was; The Story That Is ❯ Death/Life, Dreams/Reality, We Walk in Between ( Chapter 5 )
Felipe was fixing tea when Xellos popped in, she was about to yell at him when she saw that he was holding a very ill Zel in his arms.
"What happen?" she gasped out.
"I don't know I find him this way, can…… can you help him?" responded Xellos.
Filial motioned for him to lay Zel's form on the couch, once that was done she took a good look at him.
"It's some sort of magic gone bad, I think it has to do something with his make-up, I can't tell really, everything is so muddy. We have to get him to Saillune as fast as possible, they should be able to tell more about what's going on then I can." she said at last.
"I don't think he'll last a boat trip, and if it is magic I really don't think that I should teleport him there, so what do we do?" asked Xellos.
Filial shuddered "We'll fly him there, you'll…… you'll have to ride on my back, in order to keep him stable." She bustled about getting things ready for the trip, "You'd had better go and tell Amelia what's going on, while I get things ready. When you come back then we'll leave."
Xellos nodded and faded away.
No sooner had they landed then Zel was whisked away. Amelia stood beside her friends with a worry look no her face while they waited for the news on Zel's conditions.
Five hours later the verdict was in it was some kind of haywire magic that had caused Zel's current condition, however much to their own dismay, no one could cure him, this was one thing that Zel would have to fix himself. Amelia cried.

It was dark, there was no sound, no floor, no walls, no ceiling, there was just nothing. Emptiness hung around him, as he tried to see into the darkness.
"Where am I?" he asked it, as if it could answer him.
"In between life and death, welcome Zelgadis, to the world of dreams," the thin air said.
"Who's there?" he asked.
"No one and everyone, I go by many names, and I have many faces, most that you have and heard my grandson," it replied.
"Rezo."
"Aye," said the figure of the Red Prist as he step forth from the darkness "Long time no see grandson, I see you still hate." He paused "I'm not here to fight, just to explain to you that your time is short and that you must make a quick decision that will change your life for ever. Zelgadis, please listen to me do not make a rash choice, I did and in its wake I destroyed you, and myself, I caused people pain, with the blunt of it falling on your shoulder, remember we all want something, but the want should never be so much that we give up our souls for it. Listen to coyote but do not trust him, he'll lead you from here on out. Good bye Zelgadis, live your life with honor, not hate, I didn't and looked what happen." And with that he faded out of sight.
"A talker that one is, hell-o, my name is Coyote, what's yours?" asked a man about Zel's age and height, with brown hair, and a Xellos's style smile on his face.
"Greywood, Zelgadis," Zel replied.
"Nice to meet you Gerywood, come on it's time to start your path of destructed, please watch out for falling flesh," Coyote smiled as he pulled Zel along behind him.
The scenery changed as they ran on the nothingness, where the world was once black it was now the inside of a castle, at Zelgadis's feet was a woman's body laying on a pool of blood, well it was her top part at least. Looking around he could see at the doorway was Xellos's limp form, his eyes open, as black tears fall from them.
"Xellos" cried Zel as he raced towards the trickster "what happen?"
"Sstay, away," he coughed "Haven't you done enough."
Xellos looked away, he seemed distant and he was bleeding, something that Zel had never seen before, "You have your revenge, now let me dead in peace."
Zel looked at the scene shock, he did this? His gaze fell back to Xellos, the guy may have been a pain, but… was that what he really wanted? Pain hit him hard, grief, he actually felt sorrow, and over losing this pain- in -the- you know what, why? Because no matter how much a pain he was Xellos had been a friend, or at least he acted like it.
"Nice job," said Coyote "but you're not done yet."
The scene change and he was now on a field, dark with blood, and his friend's bodies laying on it.
"No," mouthed Zel.
And walking away from the scene was a lone figure, his sword in hand, dripping blood.
"You!" cried Zel pulling his own sword "How dare you, come back and fight me."
The figure laughed and turned slowly to face him "Do you think you can fight me? Do you think that you can fight yourself?"
Zel was thunder struck "no," he whimpered as he backed away "no."

"NO!" screamed Zel as he tossed in the bed, wakening Lina. She looked over to the chimera to see him lost at the hands of some dream, she frown, he still looked deathly ill and frail, and for once she was glad that Amelia was not here and that her duties where keeping her busy, for Lina could not bear the thought of seeing two of her friends at once trapped in pain.
"It's okay Zel, I'm here, clam down, if Amelia see you like this…"
"You know it's hopeless to do that, he can't hear you at any rate," Xellos butted in, for some odd reason he had not left Zel's room once he was allowed in.
"Go away," Lina growled at him.
Xellos look away, "This is the first time he has called out anything, I wonder what dream he is having that would cause him this much fear and pian?"
"Rezo," was Lina's answer.
"No, this is different from that dream, more self hate, than angry at someone."
"What do you mean?"
"I'm not sure."
Lina sighed and looked at Zel, "come back," she whispered to his still form, "we need you to come back."

"It's what you want, right?" asked Coyote "to destroy?"
"Not them, not them," Zel cried.
"You know Greywood that it would have happen if you went down that path so why the tears? They weren't your friends after all."
"YES THEY WHERE?!" Zelgadis cried out.
"Really well you never acted like they where, always hiding in you pain forcing them away from you, all due to the fact…"
"That this happens to everyone I love, they all need up having a horrible fate placed upon them," Zel whimpered.
Coyote sighed `so much pain for one so young' he thought before he fade away, leaving a crying chimera in a world of pain and darkness.
*Come back, we need you to come back*
"Lina?" question Zel, lifting his head up with tears streaming down his, but he was met with nothing.

So much pain, no wonder he is willing to throw his life away, so much pain, is there no light in his life?
~`*~`*~8~
*Zel*
He sat in his tears, allowing himself for the first time in years to feel the pain that he kept lock inside himself.
*Zel?*
It felt good, in a pain filled kind of way to do this, why hadn't he let himself feel it before now? Why didn't he listen to Amelia when she tried to open him up?
A soft voice came to dance in the empty space of Zel's heartache.
~Come to me O Faire Queen,
tell me your kind secrets of love
so I can capture by true love.
He knows be not, even when I'm by his side
a problem you kind does not know
in mortal man, plagues my heart
O Faire Queen, make me one of your court
make him fall for me,
for his love I risk all I have~
*Zel can you hear me?*

"Amelia," came Zel's weak questioning voice.
"Yes," she smiled, he had been out for two weeks now, and he was now looking at her, maybe he was getting better.
Zelgadis's glazed eyes looked around him, taking in all he could see `is this another dream?' he thought.
"Here," Amelia said while hold up a cup to his lips "drink this it'll help you get better."
"Better?" he asked.
She nodded, "You're sick Zel, there's some kind of magic about you that is making you ill."
`A dream' he concluded, but drank the contents in the glass anyway.
"You've been out for two weeks now, Miss Lina and Mister Gourry, are here they're worried about you, so am I, do you want me to go get them?"
"No," he whispered "for no sooner then you'll leave then the dream will change."
`Dream? O he thinks this is a dream? Now what do I do?' Amelia thought.
"You know it's a funny thing crying, it hurt and feels good at the same time, its kind of like life in that sense I guess, but what even more funny is how even when alone I wouldn't let myself cry, does that mean that I didn't allow myself to feel life as well?" Zelgadis asked to the thin air. His eyes fell upon a shocked Amelia, before sleep demand them to close. "You're a beautiful girl Amelia, when well you realize that your crush is useless, and find some one worthy to pine over?" and with that he was once again in the realm of dreams.
"But you are worthy Zel" she sobbed, but the only hearing ears where that of Xellos who politely left the room at that point.
