Chapter 16

Michael stared at the clouds, each pasing second the sky was getting darker and darker.

"This is going to be a nasty storm here..." Michael said to himself.

<Meanwhile, about fifty miles from Motople>

"Damnt!!! That son of a bitch is going to pay!!!" Lark roared as he pounded his fists into the ground.

"Why do I get the feeling that I'm talking to a wall?" Frieta asked as she sighed at Lark's constant temper tantrums.

"I told you before, Frieta, and I'll tell you again...LEAVE ME THE FUCK ALONE YOU HOE!!!" Lark shouted at Frieta, not getting a slap but an emotional outburst instead.

"You-! I only want to help you so that your temper doesn't get in the way of your future! Instead, you constantly bitch and complain about EVERYTHING! I try and help, but you just push me aside like trash and I don't like it when you do that!!" Frieta said with tears streaming forth from her face.

Lark just stared at Frieta, amazed that she actually was crying infront of him.

"You do what you want to do, Lark, but I'm only doing this because I am concerned for you...because I care for you!! Thats all...nothing more...nothing less..." Frieta said, tears still evident as Lark's expression was gradually changing.

"...Frieta...?"

Frieta merely looked at Lark and gave him the cold shoulder, making Lark mad once again.

"Fine! If thats how you're gonna be, then screw you! Screw Shadow, and screw this mission!!!" Lark shouted directly at Frieta, making her cry even more. "You know why I get so mad, Frieta? You really want to know why I lose it so much?! I'll tell you!!!" Lark shouted as he pounded his fists into the ground.

Frieta merely turned her head back towards Lark, showing nothing but saddness.

"Ever since I was born I have lived under constant stress and inequality...when I was born, my mother died from the delivery...my dad had a mental breakdown and went into a coma for six years...SIX years!! Those years of my life were the worst anyone could go through!! I had no family except for you, Frieta, I was on the streets, I had no clothes, food or money, so I couldn't start my own job!!" Lark spoke in a very emotional tone, getting Frieta's attention somewhat. "Even in the brightest of times, I was always under the stress of doubt! Then, when I was five, I got shot in the face, permanetely blinding me!! Thats why I wear these glasses!! They are robotic oculenses that are the only reason I can see!!!" Lark said, unable to shed any tears.

Frieta turned around and cried on Lark's shoulder, unable to seem to remove the stress from earlier.

"To top it off, Frieta, I got shot in the leg by a friend of mine, I had to have that leg amputated and then roboticized!! I'm a blind peg-leg!! LOOK AT ME WHEN I SPEAK TO YOU!!!!" Lark roared in rage as he grabbed Frieta's face and made her look at him.

Finally, Frieta had apparenetely heard enough and slapped Lark in the face.

"You don't understand, do you, Lark?! You think you are the ONLY one to suffer!! Look at me, your own flesh and blood!!!" Frieta said, pounding her fists into Lark's chest. "I went through the same pain you did, the same torture...but the thing is, I learned to move on with my life!! I didn't torture myself day and night under the veil of madness and hate!!! Thats your problem, Lark, you refuse to let the issues off your back!!! I wanted so badly to help you move on with your life, I was there for you in the worst of times! I was always there for you when you needed comfort, yet you never tried to comfort me!!!" Frieta said through tears as she then took off towards Motople.

Lark merely muttered incoherent words as he turned his back away from Frieta and went the opposite direction.

"What would SHE know about suffering and torture? She doesn't know what its like...she'll never know...I don't need her help! I can live my life the way I want to live it!" Lark said to himself as he ran as much as he could away from Frieta.

However, as much as Lark ran, the truth Frieta spoke to him couldn't have been more true; Lark knew that he was being a stubborn sob, and Frieta was trying to help him, but his pride wouldn't allow it to happen.

"I don't need her, I don't need to have a stubborn woman trying to help me live my life..."

<Meanwhile, back inside the hotel>

"Forcasters are saying that this storm is bringing with it very powerful winds of up to 60 MPH and gusts up to 75MPH! Large hail and frequent lightning are also going to be associated with this storm cell, located directly over the East Motople downtown area, so people in that area need to be especially careful: don't leave unless you absolutely have to and don't go near windows. If you must leave, be extremely careful on the roads as heavy rain will reduce visibility to a bare minimum. The storm will be producing very nasty conditions in the next 5-10 minutes, so anyone in the Motople area should seek shelter immediately."

Michael and the others listened intently to the weather reporter detailing the approching storm cell.

"Well, at least we're inside a strong building!" Sonie said happily, getting a lighting bolt as an answer.

"Damn!!" Susan replied to the very loud thunderclap that resounded from the lightning.

"Get away from those windows, Flash!" Gina shouted to the young hedgehog, getting Shadow's attention as he quickly scooped the baby up and away from the window.

Michael noticed that the TV was starting to go fuzzy, then went to complete static. Shortly afterwards, the hotel lights started flickering.

"Shhh!! Listen! Do you hear that?!" Michael got the room completely silent as he opened the window, noticing that there was hardly a sound outside: no birds chirping, no frogs or crickets making noises, and a very low rumbling sound.

"What does it mean?" Sonie asked, unaware the seriousness of the approaching threat.

"Oh no...! I've heard of this kind of silence before...survivors of a tornado tell of complete silence from animals, followed by a low rumbling noise, gradually getting louder..." Michael calmly replied, getting Shadow's and Gina's attention fairly easily.

"No...not again!!" Shadow said frustratingly, grinding his teeth together as Gina started crying on his shoulder.

"No-no-not another one!!" Gina said while crying, Susan tried her best to comfort her but to no avail.

The rumbling sounds that Michael heard were getting louder and louder, and then he saw the winds slowly picking up speed and strength, confirming his assumption.

"Shit! We need to get out of here now!! This thing is big!! VERY big!!!" Michael said, scared as any hedgehog would be as he told everyone to run as fast as they could away from the storm, hoping to outrun it.

"But, we can't! We're on the fifteenth floor! By the time we got down to ground level the twister would already be here! We wouldn't make it two minutes out there!!" Amy said worridly, making Michael reconsider his plan.

"I say we wait it out!" Sonie said.

"Thats suicide! This is a good hotel and a very sturdy building, but THIS is a tornado: they eat buildings like this for breakfast!" Sonic said to his son.

"Well, what else are we gonna do?!" Sonie asked, very frustrated with the low amount of options.

"We have no choice...we gotta stay and hope it doesn't take the hotel...!" Michael said grimmly, noticing Shadow and Gina huddling close together, clutching their baby as best they could.

Michael realised the seriousness of the threat, but could do nothing about it at that moment.

"Please...let us all be here before its all said and done..." Michael muttered to himself as he closed the window and left the drapes open to they might be able to see the size of the tornado.

"We can only hope for the best now, guys..." Amy said, very scared and shaking like a leaf. Sonic saw this and held her by the waist, getting some moans in response.

Sonic looked at the darkening sky, the conditons were only getting worse, and the biggest threat would soon be revealing its ugly face for all to see.
