The first couple of days went by smoothly, only running into Shadow once or twice. The thing that bugged me is that he was always there, watching me. I told him numerous times to stop following me, that I could take care of myself, but he would just make up some fake excuse about how I was “irresponsible” and needed to be more careful.
I never listened, though. I just nodded, throwing in an occasional “Uh-huh.” I could tell it annoyed him, `cause he would “Humph” and run off. And although he irritated me, I found myself gaining feelings for him everyday, more than just the occasional loss of breath.
One day when I was walking down the street to find Star (we were supposed to have lunch together), I saw another one of Eggman's huge machines, threatening a small group of people. In that small group was Star. I yelled to her and she looked over, a look of pure terror on her face.
I started to run over to her, but I felt an arm across my stomach, holding me back. I turned around to see Shadow restraining me from going over to her. “Let me GO!” I screamed, kicking my feet as he picked me up and stood me up against the wall.
“Stay here,” he said.
“And what if I don't?” I asked defiantly; this got to him.
“I'll make sure that you DO stay here,” he said, eying me all over. Then he did something so unexpected, so sudden, to this day I still don't believe that it happened: he set his lips lightly on mine. It took me by such surprise, I had no time to react; I just stood there.
He released himself from me and ran towards Eggman's machine, grabbing his gun from his holster. By the time I regained my nerves and ability to think, I saw Star standing in front of me.
“What was that all about?” she asked, wide-eyed.
“I… I don't know.” I replied truthfully. I looked toward where Sonic, Knuckles, Tails and Shadow were fighting Eggman and his machine, which was shaped like a huge doughnut. Figures, I thought. “He just… Kissed me…” I said, then I looked back at Star.
“Come on,” she said, grabbing my wrist. “Let's go somewhere safe.”
And she led me off down the sidewalk. I looked back just as we turned the corner and saw Shadow; he was looking at me, his lips curved slightly upward in an awkward smile, and then he was gone…
Later…
“Sunny,” Star said; we were back in my apartment, eating lunch at my kitchen table. “Do you love him?”
I looked up suddenly at this question, eyeing her to see if it was a trick. “I…” I stuttered; I thought about it for a minute. I didn't know if I loved him; I only just met him a week ago. “I don't know…”
“Cuz I think you do,” she said, taking another bite of her sandwich.
“I told you I don't know… I don't even know why he kissed me, but he did…” I retorted, looking back down at my plate.
“Just think about it Sunny,” she said. “You don't have to put up your defenses every time a guy that you like comes around. You'll never get anywhere if you do that.”
“Thanks, oh all-knowing-one,” I sang, my voice reflecting great sarcasm. “Where would I be without your dating tips?”
“Geez, I was just sayin'…” she started.
“Stop `just sayin'',” I said, staring her in the eyes. “I can make up my own mind on who I want to `date'.”
“Okay,” she said, putting her sandwich down on her plate. “We'll get off of this subject if it upsets you so much.”
“Thank you,” I said. “So how's work?”
I laughed at the exhausted expression on her face. “I might have to get a new employee to replace you for now,” she said, hanging her head. “It's so hard now without you there. And I've been getting a lot of customers lately.”
“Oh, that's too bad… For you, not for business,” I said.
“Yeah,” she looked up at the clock. “Oh, shit! It's almost one! I have to get back to the daycare! Thanks for lunch, Sun. I'll see you later.” She walked out the door, shutting it behind her.
“Wow…” I thought aloud.
“'Wow' what?”
My eyes got wide as I heard the voice. I got up to look in the living room and saw Shadow sitting down on the couch. “How'd you get in here?!” I asked angrily.
“The door was unlocked. You really should lock them, what with Eggman around and stuff,” he said, getting up and meeting me near the door of the kitchen. He wrapped an arm around my waist and stared me in the eyes.
My breathing got heavy and my heart skipped a few beats as he lowered his face nearer mine, stopping a few inches away. I refrained myself from closing the distance, but it seemed as though he wanted me to. He smirked as I pressed my lips to his, closing my eyes. He brought his other arm around my waist, pulling me closer to him.
I let my hands wander to his chest hair, stroking it through my fingers. I moaned as he massaged my back with his hands. I felt my feet lift from the ground and I opened my eyes. He sat down on the couch, pulling me into his lap.
When he broke the kiss, I was panting heavily, my arms around his neck. “Shadow…” I panted, my eyes looking his face over, looking for a sign of emotion. There were none. “What was that?”
“You'll find out later…” he said; he picked me up, set me on the couch and left.
I sat in the same place on my couch for an hour, contemplating what just went down. Realizing that I had feelings for him, that what Star said was right, I tried to shake it off by going in my bedroom and going to sleep. Tomorrow's another day… I thought, drifting off into a deep sleep in the middle of the afternoon.
A/N: Yeah, I had to put some of the fluff in there, even if it is something that Shadow wouldn't do. Lol I couldn't resist. I didn't think that slow was something Shadow did, just like Sonic. But the sex thing is gonna wait, for a while. Lol That just sounds weird…
