Ch 12: The Rescue (Part 3/4)
The sun was setting under the hilltops, mere miles away from Eggman's lab, Michael and the others knew they were going into uncharted territory. Every move they made could be their last so they had to tread carefully. Amy's life, as well as the entire world, lay on their shoulders. And three angry scientists awaited their arrival...
"There's the base, dead ahead!" Michael shouted to the others, the sight of it was enough to make Knuckles go pale.
"You've gotta be kidding me! You mean we're gonna have to go through THAT?!" Knuckles was starting to have second thoughts about the whole rescue operation. As soon as those thoughts entered his mind, however, he felt a soothing prescence inside of him, one that could only come from the Master Emerald.
"Looks like they've been waiting for us! Well, dad, lets see what those things got in them! Shadow! Knuckles! Follow my lead! I have a feeling that they'll be waiting for the four of us, so I'm having my dad go in the back way so he can get to Amy without being spotted by those clones!" Michael shouted out, getting a nod from the others as they tore through the gate barriers, triggering the alarm and activating over 50 tons of weaponry defenses around the base.

"Well, looks like they've decided to join us after all!" Eggman said confidently, unaware that one blue hedgehog was not with the other three. "Looks like that Shingleman was right after all; those hedgehogs and that echidna got through those defenses like they were nothing at all!" Eggman said to himself reluctantly.
"Suddenly, the sound of gunfire stopped, as Eggman peered outside, he saw that all the defenses were demolished by Michael, Knuckles, and Shadow.
"But wheres the other one?" Herring demanded, getting slightly nervous as this was not what him and the others had planned for.
"Gotta be around here somewhere..." Sonic muttered to himself as he looked around another corner, waiting for the robot guards to go to a different area. "I can't afford any capture or being detected, otherwise Amy's life could be jepordized!" Sonic carefully dashed past the security camera's that dotted the walls, being careful not to be detected by their red beam.
After much camera-evading, Sonic finally came upon the room that read "Prison Cells". Without any delay, Sonic kicked the door down and dashed inside before the camera's could detect him.
"Now, I'm in the prison room, but where's Amy?" Sonic nervously asked himself as the near pitch-black room made searching for Amy a difficult challenge, as if rescuing her and escaping from Eggman's clutches wasn't going to be hard enough. Suddenly, Sonic's well-developed senses detected a small, high-pitched squeaking noise as it seemed to be coming from the left.
'Hang in there, Amy, Sonic's here, I'm gonna get you outta here!' Sonic said to himself as he soon found the source of the squeaking to be the very thing he came for: Amy. Amy had her head hung low, her voice very raspy, but she had apparentely been trying to say some kind of distress signal, but the thickess of the walls had made it impossible for that to happen.
"Amy!" Sonic cried out with tears in his eyes. Amy looked up and, when she saw Sonic, had tears welling in her eyes as well. Sonic grabbed the bars and, using his strength, pulled them apart wide enough to get Amy and get out.
"Oh, Sonic! I knew you'd come for me!" Amy cried tears of joy and sadness as her blue blur picked her up and dashed out for the exit. Sonic just went straight this time instead of trying to avoid the camera's. Naturally, he got detected and the sirens went off throughout the base, but Sonic had who he came for.

"So good to see you three here at last! I think that this time, however, the outcome will be far less in your favor than it was before!" Eggman shouted with a confidence only he could muster up.
"Time to reveal two of our feared clones!" Shingleman announced as Herring pulled down a lever, opening two tanks containing two of the three clones that started the whole incident.
"Now, SX and SX2! Destroy those pesky hedgehogs and that echidna!!" Eggman shouted as the battle started off on a sour note for Michael and Shadow and Knuckles. The SX and SX2 had barely broken a sweat and they already had the three opponents on the ropes.
"This doesn't bode well, Knuckles! Those things are in perfect shape while we just got through with those defenses!" Michael said worridly, seeing an anxious expression on Knuckles' face.
"That doesn't matter to me! I'll take them out one by one!!!" Knuckles replied as he quickly got up and delivered one hell of a punch to the SX2, hurling it over fifty fett away. "Hah!!
However, no sooner had Knuckles delivered the punch that the SX2 was right back up with an answer: Chaos Control. The SX2 had an artificial Chaos Emerald, since the placement of the REAL ones were unknown. Time seemed to stand still as Knuckles's was being virtually crushed by the SX2 and the SX's combined attacks.
"All we need is some popcorn and a drink and this would be like a movie!" Eggman said, a smile that would have to be surgically removed was on his face.
